At Jersey’s on 6th we believe that there is nothing better than a well made Sandwich. The secret is simple, thinly slice your meats and cheeses to order, accent them with the freshest produce available, kick up the flavor with homemade sauces, and put it all on freshly baked bread. Whenever possible our ingredients are sourced from local vendors on a daily basis.

History

Established in 2011.

Jersey’s on 6th is the first eatery brought to you by the husband and wife team of Erick Morton and Shannon Gnatek. Veterans of the restaurant industry for over 25 combined years, we have worked at fine San Francisco establishments since moving to the city 10 and 6 years ago respectively. As two of many transplants in this fine city, we love many things about our adopted home but miss things that we grew up with. Growing up in New Jersey, Erick was always a huge fan of the famous east coast delis. Mystified by the lack of great sandwiches in such a fine food city has driven us to bring you Jersey’s. We hope you like it, but are always open to feedback either positive or negative. As first time business owners we know we have a lot to learn, and hope you are patient as we work out the inevitable kinks. Cheers, and happy eating!

A veteran of the restaurant industry for over 15 years, I am driven by a deep love of food and serving the public. I have held almost every position in the biz, from dish washer to manager in establishments that range from a dining commons all the way up to fine dining. In the City, my resume includes Enrico’s, the Bell Tower, Fly Bar, and Spruce… maybe you’ve seen me there pouring drinks and dishing out advice. As the first venture on my own, Jersey’s on 6th fills me with pride and passion. Please come in and try one of our signature sandwiches. If we’re open, I’ll be here.

I didn’t like my italian sub, but perhaps it’s ’cause I prefer the friendliness of Lou’s Café further out on Geary. The gal today was brusk and snobby, trying to will me into place my dollar bill change into her tip jar.
Also, what is with the $ 9? I’ll not return.

My first draw to this sandwich shop was being able to pay with level up; I had never done it before and was happy to try it out at this sub shop. When I showed up, the man behind the counter was extremely busy (which is always a good thing!) However he took my order (spicy chicken sandwich) and told me it would be about 10 minutes or so.
While I sat down on the windowsill in the tiny store, I watched the owner interact with each of the customers coming in. He was so kind, outgoing and friendly! He knew all his customers by first name and they all seemed happy with their service. I was really excited for my sandwich when he said it was ready.
At first when I opened it I thought it was small, but man was it dense! The sandwich was so delicious that I didn’t want the experience to end. I thought the sandwich could have been a bit more spicy but I understand there are a lot of people in this world with baby mouths. Either way, the sandwich was awesome (a bit pricy, $ 9) and he even put one of those Andes thin chocolate mints in my bag! Those little candies make me feel weird but I felt so compelled to eat it because I was so happy.
All together, I loved this shop. I can’t wait to come back next time to try a new sandwich.
Oh, and LevelUp was VERY easy to use and extremely convenient.

I stopped here on a whim while running errands as I had parked on a street nearby, never heard of the place. The pleasant aroma which had drawn my attention from the street led me in, and I wasn’t disappointed. My one regret is that the house specialty is their own Roast Beef, and since I visited on the day before their week vacation, they had run out– I WILL return for that!
The Reuben was well made, and the meat was even heated up on a pan before my eyes, absolutely delicious!
The space itself is super small and the owner/​operators themselves were running the place, service was prompt despite there being others waiting. I can see how there could easily be a wait if there were more people as it’s a 2-​person operation, and these sandwiches take some prep, but the owners were super friendly and engaged everyone in conversation as we waited.
My SINGLE issue with the place, is that the paper used to wrap the sandwiches should be a bit heavier, as mine was soaked to shreds by the time I opened it 10 minutes later.

I’m in a curious stretch of dinners where 5 out of 7 nights are sandwiches. If you know my eating habits, you’re not surprised. The Italian cold cut or Pastrami sandwich transcends the typical lunch option and I’ll skip breakfast to have it at 11am, lunch, late lunch, early dinner, dinner or late night. That’s the joy of the sandwich: it’s any time of day for me.
On a Sunday evening when I have no interest in cooking… Jersey’s crops up on the ol’ Unilocaldar and their horseradish sauce on the roast beef was perfect for me. Oh, and what’s that curious flavor happening on the pickle? That’s cumin all right. They’ve taken a tiny space and made it massively useful as the traditional East Coast sandwich scene out on our side of town is slim.

Delicious bread choices — white, wheat, dutch crunch.
Inventive menu — cheesecakes with ketchup, roast beef with caramelized onions or ruben on toasted rye.

Man I just love coming here!
Okay being from New Jersey we are high nosed when it comes to subs, yes, I said it subs and I have to say Jersey’s on 6th comes pretty dang close to my all time Favorite place in NJ Dara’s in Elizabeth =)
The owner is so nice and personable and makes you feel at home and frankly that doesn’t happen that often in the city. I get the Roast beef on dutch no cheese no mayo extra horse radish (i like the nose burn) with O.V.Great quality of food and products that is not processed garbage. So, don’t expect the quizno and subway sizes or prices b. c Jersey doesn’t serve garbage =0)

You know a place is great when you start writing your Unilocal review before the sandwich is finished.
I’m lucky to live only four blocks from Jersey’s, and I came here today to pick up a sandwich for lunch. I called in the order, and roast beef was recommended. I got the roast beef. no mayo. dutch crunch.
It’s funny how certain «food emotions» set in. When I first unwrapped the sandwich, I was like, «oh man… this sandwich isn’t warm.»
Then when I took my first bite, I was like, «Holy crap — this sandwich is amazing.»
The roast beef is nice and medium rare. It’s extremely tender, and biting through it is so soft and easy. There’s just a little bit of horseradish sauce to give the roast beef that perfect accent of taste after you’re done chewing it, and the dutch crunch bread creates the perfect sandwich holder. Go and get one of these sandwiches.
Of course, I do need to try other sandwiches there. Next time I work from home, I’ll try a different sandwich, and if it doesn’t live up to my expectations, I’ll update my review. But for now, their roast beef is a winner, the people there were really friendly, my order was placed quickly. A+.

This is my go-​to place to grab a bite to eat, in this case a sandwich, when I’m in the area. Usually I’m only in this area since I shoot in an APA 9-​ball league and we play in bars around this area. Anyway, the 1st time I’ve gone here I ordered the pastrami sandwich and just recently I ordered the Chicken sandwich. That Chicken sandwich had a spicy kick to it which I liked. I am usually here around 7PM and there’s only one guy there so I’m assuming he’s the owner. Super nice guy. And he always has great music playing inside which makes waiting for the sandwich go by fast.

I was excited to try this place out and had really high hopes. The 3 B’s sandwich was so gross. I took literally 2 bites and threw it out. My friend ordered the Ruben Pastrami and the paper the sandwich was wrapped in was melted all over the sandwich and the bread looked gross. He reported it was very average and Subway could have produced the same quality. But for 10 $ a piece, we were bummed. Lou’s is 10 times better.

The owner here… super nice! The people that work here are really considerate and friendly. Knowing this makes it hard for me to write a bad review.
The first time I came here I got the Hot Pastrami. I’ve read all the raves for it and thought I would give it a try. It definitely was edible! Unfortunately, there wasn’t much flavor to the sandwich. When I was done, I then knew what the meaning behind «gut bomb» meant. I felt as if the sandwich was just sitting in my stomach, weighing me down. That feeling made me wish I never ate it to begin with.
I understand that shit happens so I decided to try this place again. I tried their meatball sandwich. You can’t really go wrong with meatball sandwiches. I felt the same way. There was a lack of flavor and I felt super weighed down afterwards.
Again, the people that work at Jersey’s on 6th are very cool folks. However, a sandwich is probably one of the easiest meals to make. There isn’t a part of a sandwich recipe that if you mess up on, it ruins the whole sandwich. The great thing about sandwiches is that if you mess up on a detail, it is very easy to correct it. It’s not like preparing filet mignon or anything.

Get the Hot Pastrami or the Killer B’s. Make sure the Hot Pastrami is on Dutch Crunch. Complement it with some Zapps chips (yes Zapps!!!, and those are from Louisiana for you philistines) and wash it all down with an ice cold Mexican Coke. Then stroll up to Clement Street and be happy that you’re alive and well and just had one of the better sandwiches in the City.
Love this place!
The couple is nice and talkative and have a great work ethic. If they keep it up they’re gonna need a bigger shop.

Best sandwiches in SF hands down! Ike’s Place, Lucca’s and Lou’s are
good but the thing that separates this deli from the rest is the quality of
meat! The homemade roast turkey and beef are melt in your mouth good,
and the caprese is an awesome veggie option. I am blessed to have such
a wonderful deli around the corner!

Jersey’s is on 6th ave. short of california by a stop sign and a signal. it’s a 2 person operation and only one is doing the sammies so it may be a little slow. meats home made.

Got there after 1pm on Friday, They were assembling a sandwich or two for pick-​up in front of us, but otherwise no delay for service as others have mentioned.
Got the roast beef with bacon blue and onions on white. Split it with my bf on a sunny table outside. (it was my bf’s actual 50th birthday and we had a big dinner scheduled at Banker and Baker so that’s why we split… though on any other day I could certainly polished one off all by myself)
The sandwich was super yummy, I really liked the way they «shaved» the rare roast beef (I think this is a east coast thing, b/​c you don’t see it cut much like that here in the west). The quantity and quality of the meat and was excellent. Bacon was thick sliced and a good amount of blue cheese so you could really taste it. Bun super fresh.
I told the owners that it was my bf’s b-​day and the comped us a fantastic WARM chocolate chip cookie… BUT wait there’s more… CHECK YOUR BAG… Andre’s mints complimentary!!! I bet people throw these away all the time not noticing, but YAHOO… sweet treat surprise.
As a side note I had a convo with the owners, they are real foodies and have a list of restaurants they want to go to taped to the inside counter. They LOVE all things Dennis Leary (the chef not the actor: Canteen, Sentinel…). Just a cool couple making a go of it, Here’s wishing them much success.

I stopped by here because I hadn’t been here in a while and I really wanted to try another sandwich from them.
Nothing about Jersey’s has changed since my last visit. It’s still a small hole-​in-​the wall and the people working are as friendly as ever. What may be different from last time is that they seem busier than before. You don’t notice because people don’t wait inside for their sandwiches.
This time, I ordered the Killer B’s sandwich on dutch crunch. Roast beef, bacon and blue cheese combo of onions and tomato relish. I’m not partial to blue cheese but I felt like trying it.
The quality is as great as I remember. I admit the blue cheese was a bit overwhelming but I think that way about anything that has blue cheese in it. After a while, I got over it and ate the whole sandwich. It was mad delicious.
I plan on going back for more sandwiches in the future.

SF sandwich quest continues!
My hands down sandwiches.
Nothing fancy here.
All very traditional.
Traditional with a little something… but that makes the place so special.
I don’t like roast beef very much so I don’t usually order, so, when I was there for my 1st visit, I had the Spicy Meatball sandwich, and 2nd visit, the Hot Pastrami, then my 3rd visit, I finally decided to get the roast beef.
I don’t know how they do it but the roast beef is very addictive!
The menu is very simple and small, not so many funky names like Jiveass-​sandwiches like others.
Killer B’s — 10 bucks, roast beef, bacon and blue cheese combo of onions and tomato relish.
The roast beef is something phenomenon.
It is incredible, incredibly good.
Its pink, tender, great flavor.
Its like a good salmon– sashimi without salmon’s stench.
Hot Pastrami — 9 bucks. This is another great one, I had with Dutch Crunch,
Spicy Meatball — 9 bucks. great home made meatballs are hot and spicy.
The prices are more than average sandwich but the flavors are … over my head.
I came here weeks ago when I read a review, and I walked by and saw the menu and found out how expensive the sandwiches are here.
I walked away the day.
Only because I was into a cheap eats.
A 10 dollar sandwich was too much for me.
But something in my mind has changed one morning, that was 5 days ago.
I don’t know what went wrong in my head.
In my head, anything going wrong sometimes.
I said, «Fxxx it, life is too short, I am going for the 10 dollar sandwich.»
And, I’m glad I did.

I called ahead for sandwiches on a Saturday afternoon, but it ended up not being too crowded. At the same time, it was easy to order and pick up like that, so I’d recommend calling ahead.
I tried the Italian combo and the spicy meatball, and like the former a lot more than the latter. The combo was great. I really liked how they loaded on fresh and pickled veggies. I could have gone with a little less meat, but it was very good quality, as was the cheese. The sandwich was really nicely salty and the dutch crunch bread was hearty without weighing the whole thing down.
I chose wheat bread for the meatball sandwich, which was a mistake. It was way too soft and quickly got soggy from the sauce. The biggest problem, to me, was that it was pretty bland. The meat tasted more like hamburger than meatball to me, and the sauce, which tasty, didn’t make up for the lack of spices or heat. I guess you could add jalapenos, but I probably just wouldn’t get this again.
The cheese on both sandwiches is a lot higher quality than what is usually found. I love the andes candies thrown into the bag, too — such a perfect small touch!
I heard some kind of rumors about a cheese steak sandwich but really can’t confirm anything on that front — does anyone know about it?!

The closet size space that was the home of the Nepalese deli is now a tiny sandwich shop. Jersey’s is an East Coast inspired sandwich shop that roasts its own roast beef and turkey. Sandwiches include pastrami, reuben, teriyaki chicken, caprese, club, spicy meatball, etc. You can add pickles, jalapenos and so forth for free. Go to their website to see the menu.
* The Roast Beef ($ 9): on your choice of bread (Dutch Crunch, French or wheat), a generous pile of warm homemade roast beef sliced very thin, almost paper thin slice of cheddar cheese, horseradish cream sauce, shredded lettuce, tomato, and red onion. The beef is the star — very tender with a bit of pink, it’s so soft that you don’t need to do much chewing. The toasted roll is soft with crunchy ends. The sandwich is clean, simple and very fresh. I liked it but thought it was somewhat plain and the slice of cheese was too thin.
Service was friendly and very fast. They get you out of that closet with a warm sandwich in hand in just a few minutes. Curbside pick-​up is available.

I was on my way to work and wanted to stop by at Lou’s to grab a sandwich for dinner but as I approached Lou’s, I was much disappointed to find that they were closed!
Determined to grab a sandwich, I used good ol’ Unilocal and it directed me to Jersey’s on 6th, a new sammy shop that had opened in March.
The owners, Eric and Shanon are just the sweetest people you’ll ever meet. They’re really down to earth and very easy to talk to. Eric make, thus far, the best roast beef sandwich I’ve had. They make the roast beef themselves! While we’re used to the deli shop’s cooked all the way through, thinly sliced, sometimes dry, grayish brown looking roast beef, Eric’s is home roasted, perfectly cooked on the outside and rare on the inside. Juicy and flavorful! He told me where he got the recipe from, but I’m not about to spoil it for anyone. All there is to know is that Eric takes hours to make his roast beef so it’s worth every penny.
On top of their specialty roast beef sandwich, they also make a delicious pastrami sandwich and a spicy meatball sandwich. All sammies are thrown onto hot baked bread. No old stale bread here! I haven’t had a bad experience with them yet.

OMG! We saw this write-​up in the Chronicle and had to try it.
My husband got the Pastrami — said it was the best he had since leaving NYC. I got the spicy meatball — AMAZING! Perfectly spicy and meaty and delicious. Very inexpensive too. Not sure why someone thinks $ 9 for a sandwich is expensive. Where do you live?!
We loved this place and will be going back. Soon!
