John Fong, DDS

26 years ago I was fortunate enough to have a co-​worker recommend Dr. Fong to me. He’s been focused on preventative care since the get go; informing me how a medication I take can affect my gums. Due to that, I go in 3x/​yr and everything is in great shape! The staff is always courteous and knowledgeable. I had an emergency issue one weekend. Dr. Fong was in the office seeing another patient (!) and saw me right after. (Had he not already been in the office he would have come in on his weekend off to tend to the issue — Wow.)

The office is clean, short wait time (under 10 minutes), and Dr. Fong is gentle. Been a patient for about three years.

I’ve been coming here for years and highly recommend Dr. Fong and his staff. Everyone there is very caring and attentive to your needs, whether it be to accommodating to your schedule or ensuring your comfort, even for the slightest things. The staff is super friendly and helpful, it makes it so much less dreadful for me to actually see the dentist.
I don’t have a lot of dental needs — I mainly visit the dentist just for cleanings and check-​ups and an occasional small procedures. Overall I am very squeamish about going to the dentist though and have a very low tolerance for pain and get nervous from the sound of dentistry tools. Thankfully Dr. Fong and his staff are very patient and gentle, it helps me get through my visit so much better than at other places. I had a really bad experience years ago at a different highly Unilocal-​rated dentist in Union Square that traumatized me for cleanings. I’m so glad it drove me to look for another dentist, otherwise I wouldn’t have found this place!

I spoke to Dr. Fong over the phone and requested for a free consultation for a second opinion for my dental implants, he said the receptionist will make the appoint for him so he hands over the phone and luckily they had an appointment the same day (which is today). It’s hard enough to step away from home having 2 kids. I come to my appointment and luckily I mentioned that this should be a free consultation and guess what the receptionist says: «oh we don’t give out free consultations». Why in the world would I come out all this way for leaving my 2 kids @ home with grandma who’s sick and who’s doing me a huge favor so I can finally get my dental implants to find out that Dr. Fong lied! I would’ve had to pay out of pocket for something that he agreed to that was free. That is not how you practice by tricking people! Shame on you Dr. Fong for not informing me that it’s not free and never was free!!!

I have been seeing Dr. Fong for 36 years. He is the best dentist I have ever seen. «Painless» is my nickname for him. He is completely oriented toward preventative care. He will monitor any issue over multiple years and then recommend whatever treatment is necessary when the time is right. All the while, telling you, «In two years, in one year, in six months,» etc.
Fabulous staff! The absolute best from front desk (Susie), to assistant (Cynthia) and a great hygienist. He has built a great team and they stay and we are the better for it.
I must have recommended 50 or more to Dr. Fong’s care (no kidding) and now, with Unilocal,I can recommend to everyone else.

Dr. John Fong and staff has done by dentistry since 1996 per referral by my aunt. When I first went in, I developed gum disease problems. Now all these years later he tells me everything is fine after the bad beginning. Susie at the front desk is always helpful with appointments and such. Also, the hygienists are great too since they’re usually who I’m tended by as I’m only seen by Dr. Fong during the annual x-​ray review.

If you’re looking for a great dentist in SF, you should go see Dr. Fong. Susie, the receptionist is great and is very knowledgeable about insurance coverage, etc. Dr. Fong is known for being gentle and acommodates the squeamish! They have the newest technology for x-​rays and fillings, and everything they do is fast and efficient so you’re not in the chair forever. He lectures you on flossing and other habits, so don’t take it personally — he just wants you to keep all your teeth! They are located in Japantown so parking is usually not too bad. I have been to many dentists over the years and they really are the best!
