Johnny does my color when I’m on the West Coast. I live on the East Coast but travel to the West Coast occasionally. I love his cute studio in Union Square… so nice, comfy & convenient. His color is on point every time & he is as sweet, nice & welcoming as one could be. I would recommend him to anyone who wants fabulous hair!

These guys are amazing! They always make me look and feel great. The atmosphere is fun and intimate and everyone is like family to me here. Keep on rockin!!!

I am new to the area and a friend recommended Johnny to fix what was the worst hair cut/​color I had ever had. Johnny worked his magic and I could not be happier with the job he did. I am so happy to have found someone in my new home town! I highly recommend!

Received haircut from Jeremy twice now– both were perfection. Salon staff are extremely friendly. The beer, coffee, and tea is a nice touch. Thanks Jeremy and Buens!

I’ve been going to Johnny for years and I can’t find a better colorist! He has an impeccable eye and every time I leave I feel absolutely beautiful! His colleague Gjoni is amazing and gave me one of my all time favorite cuts! I Highly recommend this duo! I’m already looking forward to my next visit!

I’ve been going to Johnny for my color for many years and could not be happier — he seriously rocks! I recently was in to get my hair colored and cut, but Jeremy (who usually cuts my hair) was on vacation. However, Gjoni (who makes regular appearances at the salon as a guest stylist) was there to step in and he was AWESOME! Adorable personality and a fabulous cut. Johnny and Gioni worked really well together as a team and I left totally stoked :-)

I have been going there for several years and satisfied with service until this past Saturday. I came in for my usual Saturday appointment with Johnny and was told without my consent that I was being assigned to a hairdresser new to the salon that I never met.
This was upsetting to me because I did not know this person and was charged the same amount as if it was Johnny. When I went to reschedule for my next appointment Johnny tried to again force this new person on me.
I sent him an email trying to explain to him that I did not appreciate being assigned to someone I did not know and since I am paying for a service i should choose which hairdresser I should go to.
His response was that he can assign me to whoever he wants because it is his shop. If you want to see copies of the emails reflecting the above let me know.
Jeremy, the haircut stylist who works there is excellent and not part of this review.

I went and got a haircut with Jeremy a few days ago. Wow! The dude can cut hair. I have tough to cut Asian hair with cowlicks that go everywhere, but Jeremy did an excellent job of shaping it in a way that prevents that while also giving me the style that I wanted. We had a great discussion about what I was looking for at the beginning and I was given a beverage during the haircut as well.
I will definitely be going back. Highly recommended for everyone!

The bottom line is that I trust Johhny and Jeremy. They are both excellent at what they do, and thus make a stellar team. I would not go anywhere else.
Added bonus is that their studio is light and airy, making the whole experience a pleasure. I used to go to a busy salon with 8 or more stylists and I just felt like a number. Here you may see one other customer in the salon, and so you feel like the utmost care and attention are being given to you, as is the case.
Couldn’t recommend more highly!

I’ve just had my haircut and coloring with Jeremy. I like it! Jeremy is a very nice person and experienced hairdresser.
I like him saying «this is definitely doable» on any of your requests :).
They also use high quality care and coloring products.

I went to high school with Johnny and though Facebook found out that he was living in San Francisco and that he was doing hair. I was moving to San Francisco and I needed my hair done. Coincidence? I think not.
I made an appointment with Jeremy to get my hair cut. I showed up and was offered a locker to put my stuff in, coffee, tea, sparkling water. etc. Jeremy took his time during his consultation and was kind about the not-​so-​great haircut I had been sporting.
He took his time with the haircut. Precision. Then the blow dry was the most exacting, precise blow dry I’ve ever been given. When complete, I felt pretty. Which, I think, is all that you can ask from an morning of beauty.

Still getting my cuts and Brazilian blowouts here… and STILL completely happy with the results.
When you happen on a good thing, STICK WITH IT, I say.
Johnny and Jeremy are really good at what they do, and super nice too.

I moved from Chicago four months ago and have been at a loss as to where to start my search to find a new hair stylist/​colorist.
In my family our hair is our glory and we pay special care with picking the right person to touch our locks. My last stylist in Chicago had great style and I would receive compliments all the time on my hair. She (Susan at Sparrow) introduced me to Kevin Murphy products. I decided the way to find a stylist would be to look for a salon that carried the same product line. After looking at a variety of salon websites I came across Johnny Bueno. I read some of their Unilocal reviews along with other popular salons and decided to see if I could get in for a Saturday appointment.
Johnny Bueno’s salon is located downtown in what is deemed the «beauty building». Industry lingo for where you can get every beauty service done under one roof.
Johnny and Jeremy aka are the ultimate dynamic duo! There are two reasons why I gave them five stars:
1) They know hair! My hair is curly and not as easy as straight hair to cut or color.
2) They also know how to treat their customers… they listened to what I had to say then made some suggestions. They offered drinks, chocolate, and gave me free sample product. They went straight to my heart (being a product hoarder and all) offering the last item. I felt like a special guest at their salon.
Yes, I’ll be back.
Especially after I walked out of their salon and in less than a minute some stranger told me my hair looked great! To me that is a sign of a fantastic hair stylist and colorist. Don’t settle for less than the best.

Johnny has been doing my hair for many years now and always makes me look amazing! I drove all the way up from Santa Barbara just to get my hair colored by him, and it was well worth it! I can’t. Wait to come back!

I’ve hesitated writing this review for quite some time…1) I hate writing bad reviews 2) Johnny and his coworkers seem like very nice people 3) he did refund my money.
But the fact is, I’ve never had my hair look so bad. Ever.
I explained exactly what I wanted several times and even brought a picture. I just wanted my long blonde hair to have a more caramel tone, a bit darker then my usual highlights. I expressed over 10 times that I did NOT want ANY ash tones used.
After 2 tries and 6 hours I now look like i put my hair through a cap and created highlights by soaking my head for weeks in an ashtray. My Dad at Thanksgiving while I was going through the buffet line commented «Chelsey, are you aware that the back of your head is a dark grey?» And from my sweet husband «Chelsey, please, I will pay for you to get it fixed now». Uh yeah, not what you want to hear…
I now I have to wait to fix it because my hair is so brittle and seems to be falling out. Until then I will avoid all mirrors and veer from getting photographed.
1 star for my nice trim, otherwise this was a huge fail.

After several years growing out my hair and doing the beach look, I decided to go with something a little more fun and hip. And I am soooo happy with the cut!
Jeremy did an awesome job with my haircut. I went in with a little idea of what I wanted, and then he really took the time to understand what kind of style I wanted to go with, and turned the picture in my head into a fabulous cut! I’ve gotten so many compliments already. And I seriously feel like I’ve had a makeover.
I can’t wait to go back and try something else!
I totally recommend this cute little salon with amazing natural light. Everyone that works there is so nice. Plus, coming from Marin, it’s a great excuse to check-​out my favorites stores when I’m in the area.

I got a Brazilian Blowout here: The process was actually not that long, no yucky smelling fumes, the people (Johnny did my hair, others present) were friendly, fun and helpful, the price was fair. The location is also awesome – high up above union square, a cool breeze blowing in, the sounds of the city below. I was so relaxed I almost fell asleep!
But I woke up with my dream hair – soft, manageable, no frizz, and perfect. They did a thorough job and even 1 month later – my hair continues to be smooth and straight. I had wavy, rebellious hair full of cowlicks to begin with, that took 30 minutes of cajoling into submission every morning, and now I just wake up, brush my hair and am done! I am in LOVE!
They also seemed to do a good haircut – another woman in there walked out with a good looking cut. I’ll be back for another Blowout and maybe a cut.

Johnny and Guf are my new favorite people!
Not only are they incredibly welcoming, interested, accomodating they are MASTERS at what they do.
I walked in yesterday with a rats’ nest for a head, I walked out a queen. Johnny beautifully highlighted my hair with the perfect color combo and then Guf styled my unruly mess to a stylish bob. Before attacking my mess, they both thoughtfully checked my head, figured out problem areas and asked me what I wanted to achieve in terms of color and look.
Guf cuts straight and curly hair, gals, and is really good at it. Johnny highlighted my brown hair, tackled the greys expertly, and left me with beautiful, caramelly, gorgeous color. They do this brazilian blowout thing where you walk in with unruly curls and they apply a protective protein layer around the hair shaft to eliminate frizz and smooth the cuticle. You walk out with smooth, healthy, frizz-​free hair with radiant shine. There was a gal in there who had it done and walked out looking like Angelina Jolie, I kid you not.
I love my new hair guys!

We have known each other for years now and I just want to write a letter of thanks to you! Thank you so much for the awesome job you do on my hair! I can’t think of anyone else to color my hair.
I’ve trusted you to do wild things, tame things, and everything in between. You never fail me.
Thanks to you, I get compliments on my hair, stares across the room, and inappropriate men hitting on me in inappropriate ways.
I am so proud of you for opening your own studio and so glad to have been a part of your opening day! I can’t wait to continue to be a part of it for years to come.
