Can I give this place twenty stars? Please?
I have been painting with Joseph and Janny since i was in first grade, so it has been over a decade now. Not only have I learned so much with them, these two are like second parents to me. I remember that ever since I was in elementary school, I would come in and tell them little tid bits about my day when I would come for class. As a stubborn little kid, I would refuse to speak Chinese with them, even though my mother would order me to. Now, I do, though, but I still am that girl who comes in every friday excitedly with something she has to tell Janny and Joseph. And I never stopped. I have never missed a single semester in ten years with Janny and Joseph. I played various sports, did a great variety of different activities, but the one thing I could never let go of is painting.
The painting experience of both of them cannot be matched in the city. Both of them were art professors at Nanjing University (I believe) and whether you would like to learn Impressionist, Elaborate, or Decorative, or calligraphy, sketching, cartoon, or clay scupture, this duo is suited to do it all.
As a little girl in elementary school, I used to give paintings to teachers for Christmas, and now, as a high school student, I still scan my paintings to have them made into calendars and post cards. Relatives, friends, and teachers are always amazed at them. When I tell them it takes me months to finish a painting, they then realize that what I learn with Joseph and Janny isn’t just painting skills, it’s patience, it’s attention to detail. Joseph and Janny are truly the best teachers I could have ever asked for. My time with them has been so precious, and I’ll be sad that in a year and a half, I’ll have to go to college, and stop painting, at least for a little while.

I would give 6 stars if I could! Janny and Joseph are amazingly patient and talented teachers.
Afraid you are too old to take classes? Don’t be. This school is for adults as well as children. Classes tend to be around 4 – 6 people, and everyone gets attention without the teacher hovering. Yay!
I have been taking Chinese calligraphy classes, and Janny’s teaching method is very systematic. She has divided the characters based on a point that she wants to teach. In the last year or two I have progressed from board #1 to board #40 something. My handwriting has even improved :)
Classes are scheduled on a quarterly basis. The next quarter begins in September. Hope you go!

My son has been taking with Joseph Yan. He is a fantastic teacher and my son enjoys classes very much. He even won a school-​wide art contest this year. The studio is also a great place to frame your art work and far more reasonable than most places.

I’ve been a student here for over a decade, starting with drawing classes, then moving on to impressionist Chinese painting and finally to elaborate-​style painting. The classes are peaceful and it’s always a great feeling to finish a piece — both Joseph and Janny are extremely helpful and try to accommodate whatever you’d like to create. Drawing, sketching, several styles of Chinese painting, calligraphy, and ceramics are all available here, and there are students of all ages ranging from kids as young as six to retired adults. It’s just really nice to take an hour out of the week to create something with the instruction of two experts.
