I gave Dr. Berd’s office a second shot to see if anything would be better than my first visit.
I was thinking if I was still experiencing the same I would definitely find a new dentist.
It turned out to be far better than I expected. This visit was very informative. Dr. Berd and my new hygienist, Kristine, were straight-​to-​point about my teeth (x-​ray, check-​up and dental cleaning, thorough info about my teeth and how to properly clean, and a referral to oral surgeon). I asked them both a lot of questions (i.e. whether some dental procedures are actually needed) and I was satisfied with the answers. The dental cleaning was efficient, thorough and painless.
I can confirm Kristine, the hygienist, is great like other reviewers had mentioned.

Dr. Berd was the first dentist I chose when moving to the City. I originally worked right across the street and chose him out of convenience. In the long run, I’m glad I did.
I absolutely love their office. It’s clean and always presentable. Their staff has always been super sweet no matter my visit. On my last visit, my hygienist’s name was Kristine. She was personable, empathetic and super efficient! I loved my interaction with her and Dr. Berd.
If you’re looking for a great dentist, Dr. Berd is the way to go. He recently just opened up a new office on close to market. You will LOVE HIM!

Best dental place I’ve ever been to! Dr. Berd and the entire staff are super friendly and helpful. They address dental problems very plainly, and answer my questions with attention and care that I haven’t experienced elsewhere. My hygienist Kristine was also super friendly and awesome, and somehow made my cleaning a surprisingly pleasant experience!
I’ve already recommended a roommate and a coworker here… can’t rave about this place enough!
Quick note: If you were a new patient, you may want to book well in advance. When I tried to book my first appointment, first open spot was 3 – 4 months away (through their online booking). However since then, subsequent visits have been relatively painless, and there’s usually open spots when I want them.

Just had my third visit with Dr. Berd. Each appt. seems to get better. Cannot say enough about their great service. On time, great friendly service. Provided excellent detail about the condition of my teeth. Best cleaning I have ever received. So happy that my stain was removed. The front desk gal is also very helpful with all insurance information. So happy that they have an office on Geary that is so convenient to my home.

This solitary star is NOT for the dentist but for his secretary. I have never had the pleasure of meeting this dentist because his secretary does not call me back. I leave short, polite, and detailed message with my name and phone number. NOTHING. It has happened few times already so it is not a coincidence. I think that it all happened when I had to reschedule an appointment due to a last minute unpredictable event. I excused myself that time but I could tell that she was very upset. Patients or in my case want-​to-​be-​patients are simply humans. Things happen and once in a while people have to change day and time of the appointment. Professionals working in the medical field need to be compassionate and customer-​oriented, and they have to respect patients (in pain) asking for help.

The most important thing for me when going to the dentist is that I’m comfortable during whatever I get done and that I know what is being done is what is necessary. I’ve been avoiding this visit for almost 15 years, and initially went to another dentist in the city. After a so-​so visit I asked around, and Josh Berd came highly recommended from several people. I decided to go there instead, and I have not regretted it. Location is great, staff is very kind and Josh is very straight to the point. No unnecessary small talk, clear instructions and efficient work. I’ve just come out from two hours in the chair getting things fixed, and I cannot put a finger on anything I would have wanted differently. As for a visit to the dentist goes, I have to say this was pretty great.
I have a bunch of other teeth that needs work, and now I’m almost looking forward to it. Oh, and prices seem relatively low for the city.
I would highly recommend Dr Berd and his team.

Although going to a dentist was the most unpleasant experience for me, visiting Dr. Berd’s office has changed my perspective to the opposite. The atmosphere in the office created by the superb team of professionals is welcoming and relaxing. Dr. Berd knows his business when it comes to the dentistry: from regular cleaning to putting a crown on my tooth.

The only reason I am not giving this dental practice five stars is because of the open-​plan layout, which makes me uncomfortable when I would like to share private medical information. I have also overheard way too much information when the hygienists and dentists are talking with other patients.
This practice uses the latest technology, and Dr. Berd is very skilled. He completed /​replaced a couple of fillings for me, and so far I have been satisfied with the results.

Dr. Josh Berd is the only dentist I’ve had since moving to SF because I’m very happy with his level of care, the time he takes with each patient and his excellent, educated, friendly (and gentle) hygienists. It’s a bonus he has an office within walking distance of my work and home. I was referred by a friend and have yet to have a negative experience making or having an appointment.

Amazing dental practice in every way. Honestly, the first dentist that I do not ever dread of visiting because 3 reasons. One, Dr. Berd is very honest and straight forward. I’ve been to dental practices that want to fix all 30,000 of my teeth, but Dr. Berd addresses only tooth that really requires attention unlike some others. Two, Dr. Berd has great bedside manners. He’s very patient and explains the entire process of what needs to be done and how they are going to complete it as opposed to just rushing you through like a number. And his cleaning and fillings do not hurt like hell. Three, the front desk, Heather, is super friendly and very competent with insurance. What is described to you and what you are ultimately billed is exactly the same. I’ve been to dental offices that tell me one price and when the bill comes later, everything’s a surprise. So it’s really refreshing to see competency at the insurance billing department. Four, the dental assistants are awesome. They do a kick-​ass job of cleaning, preparation and explaining everything. They even taught me how to floss. Can you believe it? After flossing for 50 years, this old geezer finally realized that he has been doing it wrong for the last 50 years! Okay, maybe not 50, but for a long time. Five, this office has all the modern equipment like in-​chair x-​ray and onscreen display and the likes.
In short, 5 reasons is a bit more than 3 reasons, but it had to be said because this is a very well run practice. Dr. Berd is a great dentist who is surrounded with very competent staff in a very modern facility. I have since referred my wife here as well because of my confidence in Dr. Berd.
I know by my positive review and all others before me that his schedule may be even harder to book, but I think everyone should have access to a great and honest dentist. And Dr. Berd fits the bill completely.

This is the coolest dentist & dental office you’ll ever find! A few years ago, I gave them a try after reading their good reviews on Unilocal and have never looked back: everyone is smiling, genuine, and efficient. Dr. Berd not only does an excellent job but he also cares for his patients, is very patient in explaining the various options you face, and always find fun stuff that he knows you like to talk about to make your time enjoyable (yes, it can be :).

Dr. Berd was at the reception desk to meet me as I walked in. I filled out paperwork on an iPad — office seemed up to date tech wise.
Visit was very efficient, pleasant (they ask what your favorite type of music is and play it throughout), and Dr Berd explained everything to me.
Highly recommend!

I was hanging out at the Embarcadero waiting on the Endeavour shuttle flyover when a stranger started talking to me. My momma raised me to be polite and friendly when the occasion called for it and I figured this one did. I don’t remember what we talked about other than SPACE and SHUTTLES. He gave me his card and I was delighted to learn he was a dentist since I was long over due for a visit and had not bothered to find a dentist since moving to SF the previous year.
The next dayHAHAHAHAHA nine months later, I finally made an appointment and had my teeth cleaned. It went well and my teeth have probably never been cleaner and was very convenient to work. The people working there are lovely and friendly and know their way around a mouth.
You’re probably wondering who this dentist could be! Well, it’s an amazing coincidence that it happens to be the very same dentist on this Unilocal page: Dr. Berd!

I have seen Dr. Berd for over a year and am always pleased with his staff’s courtesy, efficiency and overall professionalism.
The most recent addition to his team Cailin, is a terrific hygienist and got me out of the office in 50 minutes. Dr. Berd does a through check up and is prompt and efficient.
The office is always spotless and I love that they work late hours.
I hope my new review inspires others to chime in as well as Dr. Berd will donate $ 10 to «A Smile is Priceless» initiative by the International Medical Missions that benefit undeserved areas.

Ive been seeing Josh now for around 3 – 4 years in both locations and he is fantastic. I recommend Josh to everyone that has teeth! Great downtown location, friendly receptionist and assistants, and very clean, hygienic office.
Smart, genuine, efficient and all-​round good guy. Do yourself a favor and drop your old, worn out, miserable dentist and get with to Josh.

I like Dr Berd (friendly, thorough) but after a year I decided to go elsewhere. The hygenist complained about how many teeth I had, why I still had my wisdom teeth, it was hard to clean my teeth, etc etc.
Unacceptable.

Dr. Berd is amazing! Takes a lot of care and time with his patients, and is highly knowledgable with the latest and greatest about dentistry. His attention to detail is impressive and just what you want from your dentist.
