Established in 2006.

Joy Nordenstrom, CEO of Joy of Romance, Inc., was inspired to incorporate the depth and breadth of her personal and unique career experiences, her extensive studies of interpersonal relationships and the chemistry of love into a company designed to bring more love into the world. With the 50% divorce rate for first marriages, increasing upwards to 75% for second marriages and the overall number of unfulfilling marriages in America, she realized there was an extreme absence of positive role models for couples who want to make their relationship not merely survive but thrive. Her desire to help individuals learn how to create and sustain passionate relationships lead her to launch Joy of Romance, Inc.

Joy Nordenstrom received an MBA in Entrepreneurship, and a BA in both Communications and Economics, with a minor in psychology. All degrees are from Mills College in Oakland. She is a certified matchmaker from the Matchmaking and Behavioral Science Institute in New York City.

Joy emphasizes making relationship maintenance fun, sexy, and intelligent — especially for gentlemen. I’m a successful and busy entrepreneur, and I didn’t have time to really hit the dating scene. I thought it would be great to have someone do the searching for me after getting to know me. What an expensive mistake that was.
I went through the coaching sessions paying close to $ 2000, and then she did NOTHING once I was prepared to «enter her inner dating circle». She basically took the money and ran. I reached out twice very politely asking what was going on, and both times I got the run around about her life issues and how they were hindering her professional life. I get it life happens which is exactly why I went with Joy, but what an unbelievable and expensive let down.
Since then I’ve moved to New York for my next venture. I reached out and asked for a partial refund of the money I spent since I felt that I was duped, but she stated that I signed a contract, so on and so forth. My thought is services promised weren’t services rendered.
Stay with Tinder and hire a psychologist with the money you would spend on her. Both will help your inner dating child in the long run more than Joy.

So, I went to meet this lady and once I got there I was read a script about what she can do for me in the way of introducing me to a gentleman, etc., etc., etc.
Bottom line is: You are charged $ 200 a ‘coaching session’ for 10– 13 sessions (that’s $ 2600.00 right there and the amount of sessions are determined (depending on how much of HER car note, house note, baby sitter or credit cards need) and then you finally ‘are ready’ to meet your first date. Then, if you are still dating for 3 months you pay about $ 7 or $ 8 K… that’s $ 7,000 or $ 8,000 dollars folks.
Please, such a rip off. I don’t need to have coaching sessions on dating or hearing her spew off about all she knows about brain chemistry.
It’s a rip off. Oh, but if you refuse her services she will offer to HIRE YOU as a LOVE AGENT. You refer people to her and you get $ 200.00 per referral.
I’d rather not, thank you. What a con. I cannot believe all the good reviews.
If you still want to bite and try it out, she will drop her prices to say $ 150.00 per coaching session. This fish just swam away happily and still have my money in my pocket.

Are you single? Are you looking? Are you looking for someone who will totally change how you see dating? Take a look at Joy of Romance — I did, and what an experience!
Here’s why I feel this way about working with Joy:
1) Scientifically Sound: I’m a guy who thinks way too much and got tired of hearing about things like «game» or endless platitudes like «spend time around the right people» or «the right person will bring it out in you». Joy’s coaching, while understanding that those opinions do count, takes it a step further by introducing the scientific principles behind love, sex, and relationships. The rationality behind how I approach relationships is astoundingly different.
2) Empathetic and Personal: When you hire a relationship coach, you have to be able to discuss your past and talk about everything. After all, how do they know how to treat you and talk to you if they don’t know what triggers you? Joy is caring and takes the time to listen and understand where you are coming from.
3) Personal Growth: Working with Joy also allowed me to rewrite my past. I am impressed with the level of knowledge she has when it comes to looking at how science (see #1) plays into our dating coaching, and one of those areas that this specifically applies to is personal growth. I found myself being able to understand and finally move on beyond the issues that plagued me in of all places — MIDDLE school! You can’t really get that with most people.
So if you’re single, looking for a transformation in how you view relationships, and want some help along the way, look to Joy. She’s done wonders with me, and she will do the same with you.

Joy is lovely, professional and has great style. Easily the best love coach you can image, whether you are single or in a relationship. Over the past five years, I have had the pleasure of doing a bit of coaching with her, attending events and while I’m not a ‘dater,’ she’s convinced me to go on dates and I had a unexpected fun. I’ve realized there’s plenty of room for evolving our understanding of love and how we love others.

Match maker, match maker make me a match! I’m in my late thirties and I’ve been having a blast living my life. With a busy career and a big family, finding time to meet new people was challenging so I turned to online dating with limited success. Frustrated by the San Francisco dating scene, I spoke to my best friend who recommended I reach out to Joy. That’s when things started to shift for me. Joy has a wonderfully thoughtful approach to dating, relationships and finding someone who is compatible for me. We went through 10 sessions where I read books about relationships, took personality tests and drilled down on what it was that I was looking for in a match. Initially I was hesitant about having homework and needing to read about my personality type and how I interact in relationships but through the process, I learned a lot about myself, why what I had been doing was not working, and how to develop space to bring in a partner into my life. With Joy’s encouragement, I also broke out of my mold and started doing things that made me uncomfortable. The saying is true that you will not meet anyone watching TV at home. So each day, i challenge myself to do something new. While I have not yet met my match, I’ve met quite a few wonderful men and its only a matter of time until I do. The only reason I am giving 3 stars instead of 5 is that Joy of Romance wanted me to go through a 10-​session dating coaching/​therapy program before Joy would determine whether she would accept me into her roster of matchable clients. Some people have been through alot of coaching and therapy around relationships which were already a financial investment. For those that have not done this kind of inner work, this is the ideal way to start, but it seemed like there was no flexibility in this regards. Sometimes too much coaching is just filling a person’s head with information but they need to get in the game and on dates. If you are someone who has already done this kind of soul searching, check out The Real Matchmaker in San Francisco. Anni Powers is more the matchmaker for clients who have been coached endlessly and are ready to just date!

My favorite coaching package is called Rules of Engagement Training where she coaches couples how to proactively argue with one another based on their individual patterns. This is a must for any couple about to get married or for those who have been married for years. Did you know that couples who get some kind of marriage training during the honeymoon phase of their relationship reduce their potential divorce rate from 50% down to 25%? That statistic alone makes this coaching well worth its weight in gold.
I have enjoyed attending several Joy of Romance events, private coaching and have utilized their vacation planning and all been extremely beneficial for my relationship and overall happiness quotient.
