History

Established in 2008.

When I was six my father had a profound healing experience with acupuncture. This struck me.

Later, in college/​grad school, I wanted to know how the human body heals itself. What causes it to go into disease? So I studied physiology and anatomy and found some great answers and more questions about health, vitality and recovery from illness.

Finally, Chinese medicine gave me a theoretical framework from which to answer many of the questions I had been gripped by. After graduating from the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in San Francisco, I began my private practice.

Since then I have had the profound experience of helping others maintain and regain their health.

How fortunate I am to have met Juan Carlos, he has changed my life. I like many 50+ women suffered through the agony of menopause. I did not want to go the traditional route of hormones etc. instead I discovered Juan Carlos. His approach to your needs are so insightful, he takes the time to listen, he asks questions that really puts you thinking about your body and how you treat it on a daily basis. Any information he gives you is fact based and he encourages you to share with others the information you receive in order to help themselves. In addition to healing me of my menopause symtoms with his amaxing herbs and acupuncture, he taught me the value of good nutrition and how to listen to my own body.

juan carlos is one of the most grounded, compassionate acupuncturists i’ve ever met.
he helped me a great deal during graduate school. he treated me with acupuncture on a regular basis for digestive issues, pms, fatigue and stress. he also gave me herbs which he not only prescribed just for me but he also mixed the formula himself in his clinic.
i felt profoundly better with his treatments.
his clinic had an aura of peace. when i walked into his healing space, i felt immediately more relaxed. he earned my trust as a practitioner.

I highly recommend Juan Carlos as your Acupuncturist and Herbalist. Of all the Acupuncturists I’ve tried in the Bay Area, hands down, he is the best, most intuitive, and effective. I have visited for many issues– TMJ, common cold, relaxation, etc and he seems to nail it every time. Juan Carlos take a very holistic approach, looking at your body as a WHOLE, and treating the ROOT cause of your symptoms! His love and compassion for his work is something to experience!

Juan Carlos is one of the best-​trained and most highly skilled and reasonably priced practitioners in the Bay Area. He does not do a lot of self-​promotion, so you might not know that until you start to do a little research on him. We are lucky to have him.
He treats a wide range of injuries and illnesses. He helped me with a very acute injury. If something new is hurting you, or if something has been a chronic problem, Juan Carlos probably has the skill and training to improve your life. And if it is not within his sphere of expertise he will tell you straight away, and help guide you in a better direction. Not many practitioners will do this.
When I mentioned my skepticism that acupuncture and Chinese medicine could help my very fresh and very painful Achille’s tendon injury, he told me he preferred treating skeptics! Well I am not a skeptic anymore. Juan Carlos healed me in 3 weeks. I thought it would take 12 – 16 weeks or more for my pain to resolve. I was stunned.

Juan Carlos has a wonderful understanding of the fundamentals of Chinese medicine, and a deep respect for the energetics of the foundational theory.
The pulse is carefully considered and understood while his treatments are insightful to the mechanisms underlying the pathology of our ailments.
Needling and herbal prescriptions are very focused.
JC has helped me tremendously with my menstrual complaints, energy and stress level as well as recovering part of my pulse.
I traveled from the East Bay to see him, and it’s absolutely worth it — in fact I should probably set another something up!
