I have been going to Morioka since 1994; she is great. I have never had any problems from a prescription she has given me, like I have from other doctors. I find that the staff is helpful and friendly. I highly recommend her.

It has been a while since I have been a patient. After seeing another eye doctor for a while, I don’t feel bad about leaving.
I really wanted to like Dr. Morioka. In fact, I was a patient for a few years. However, there are two reasons why I stopped seeing her.
One: they constantly double book (at least when I was seeing them). There were more than 3 times I was not her only 4:00 appointment. Very annoying.
Two: I was having discomfort with my contacts but I was told they were fine. It was suggested I needed medicinal drops. Well, my next appointment Dr. Morioka was not available so I saw her partner, Dr. Penza. He took one look at my eyes and contacts told me my contacts were too small. He asked me who my eye doctor was. I told him Dr. Morioka. I think he was a little uncomfortable…

First time I saw her she prescibed contacts that were off by +1.00 awful!!! I went back and she made me pay for another visit and gave me another prescription which was also off by +.50 and then tried to bully me into using the same correction in both eyes even though they aren’t they same at all. I’ve been wearing contacts for 20 years, I’ve never ever mixed up my contacts. I’m not sure why she thought having the wrong prescription in one eye would help the headaches I was complaining about.
Further complaint is that 4 months after the second exam I tried to exchange the old contacts I’d gotten from them for the latest prescription and they wouldn’t let them fill for more than one month of contacts claiming I was due in for a re-​exam in a month. Which obviously isn’t true as I’d just had a second full exam. So when I called them and tried to clear this up they claimed that I did need a new exam. I asked they why and they said it’d been a year. When I pointed out I just had an exam, they seemed puzzled but unwilling to fix the problem. So a month later they called and tried to get me to come in for an exam and I said but I was just in there 5 months ago, why do I need an exam. They again seemed puzzled by this but checked the notes and acknowledged it, but then wanted to know when I could come in for an exam! I say again «I don’ t need an exam!»
So they were either incompetant or just unwilling to let me use 800contacts to get my prescription filled. But going out of their way to stop it seemed excessive, and illegal. You’d think having two full exams paid for in under 6 months would be sufficient. It is also unreasonable that I had to pay for the second exam when she messed up the first.
Staff also is pushy and rude, and has poor understanding of what they are doing. They don’t have any preservative free salines.
I was recommended to her by a friend who hasn’t had any trouble but… wow she was awful for me.
I am now going to Through the Hayes, who seem much better and have corrected my prescription, and also corrected the astigmatism which was causing the blurriness.

Dr. Morioka spends a valuable half hour ISO of the right prescription and the most comfortable contacts. There was one time I had to keep coming back for multiple contact lens fittings because my eye was irritated with the different brands. She never charged me extra for those fittings.
She is also in tune with your lifestyle and the function and form of your spectacles and contacts. After the conclusion that I only wear contacts for the occasional date, glamorous evening, and skiing/​snowboarding, she gave me daily toric disposables with the maximum possible astigmatism correction available on the market. Not only were they very comfortable, I didn’t have to worry about losing them. And because of the infrequent use, the option did not cost an arm and a leg. If she had not brought this up, I would have been stuck trying to fit my glasses underneath my Oakley A goggles.
I’m no longer a 6-​eyed skier/​snowboarder!
