Just had Kent come and do our annual family photos again — we love, love, LOVE how the pictures turned out. He was able to handle a newborn, a pre-​schooler and elementary aged kid and somehow get amazing shots where we are all looking in the same direction! Also — very professional, shows up on time, and quick turnaround so we were able to order our Christmas cards fast. Do not hesitate to book him for your special photos — you won’t regret it

Kent is really an amazing photographer. Every year my family has our picture taken together, and his photos of us are keepers.
Kent seems kind of laid back and on the quieter side, so he is not a photographer who is going to jump up and down and bark orders from behind the camera. My experience is that it’s more his style to be quiet and observant, and catch his subjects in a natural way. He has an impeccable eye for composition and lighting, captures the right moments, and takes a variety of angles and shots.
He also arrived early to our shoot to scope out the lighting, and sent us our proofs way earlier than promised.
I would definitely hire Kent again!

First of all, I want to say that I could tell from visiting Kent’s webpage, that this guy knows photography. I was excited to buy the Living Social deal because a deal like that was not to be passed up, especially seeing his work and reading the positive reviews on Unilocal.Would I recommend him? I have actually, but maybe I shouldn’t have… Would I use him again, No and I’ll explain why…
We exchanged emails (since this is his preferred method) and set a date and time. On the day of, my family arrived and I emailed him to tell him that we were there waiting. He called me back, but I didn’t hear it so he left a vm and told me that I have the wrong time. I was pretty sure I had the correct time. Fortunately I was in the right and he told me that he never ever was late to any job. I am forgiving and it was ok, we’re at the park, so my son was just playing anyway.
Kent arrives, visibly flustered, but did not apologize or seem very personable when he approached. I was taken aback but wanted to get the photo shoot going. He kept distant. Even my father made a comment to me, I just shrugged it off. In hindsight wouldn’t it be us upset with him for being tardy? — nope he seemed pissed at US! I kept my distance and let him do his thing. He took a lot of pictures of my son playing in the playground but not many pictures of my family together.
He eventually warmed up at the end of the hour but I just couldn’t understand why he seemed so upset. My family and I are approachable and I truly was not upset with him for being late. I felt he was trying to avoid me when I tried to make him feel welcome. Kent needs to lighten up or at least smile once in a while! Kent appreciates monetary tips and I gave him one. While I didn’t really feel he gave the service that day, I like helping local vendors and we got our deal from LS so I thought I would be generous.
We took our family photos in February, I got a threatening email over the Father’s day weekend to tell me that I had used a copyrighted image (on LinkedIn) that was not to be used outside of personal use. It really turned my day sour. It wasn’t my intention to cheat him out of paying for a head shot, I posted it without thought. Communication is biting, instead of service oriented. I’m afraid to use him again, he’ll likely bite my head off! I really wanted to root for him but after all this I rather just stay far far away.

Very unreliable. He canceled a few days prior to our shoot. Extremely disappointed. However, we had used him previously and had nice pictures. I just wish he was more professional.

I have worked with a lot of photographers through the years… heck I was a wedding coordinator, with over 900 under my belt, I have seen them all. But none have been more personal than those I have asked to photograph my family — my babies.
We found Kent Hwang from his Living Social deal, I thought why not, great price, fun way to head to the city and take some pictures with the wee ones. Needless to say Kent was overwhelmed with the deal and the number of people that signed up but he was calm, cool and responsive with us!
But the best part — he was hands down the best photographer I have ever had with children. Non-​invasive, there to just capture the moment, their beauty, their spirit and the fun they had on a Sunday in February at the park with their cousins. The pictures caught in that brief 1 hour were priceless and timeless.
We will go back, for years to come. Thank you Kent for your professionalism and amazing way to make us feel right at home.

Kent is a talented photographer and artist. I’ve had the pleasure to work with Kent on a couple of photo shoots, and he is always professional and fun to work with. I would gladly work with Kent again on photo shoots or other future opportunities. Kent will not let you down, and has a talent for capturing beauty in love and life through his camera lens. Kent took our family photos at an outside location a couple weeks ago and did an amazing job!
My boys (3 and 1) had such a great time, they were still asking about Kent the next day. Both my husband and I were amazed at how immediately comfortable they were around him. They are usually a bit more shy around new people. Not only was he able to get multiple great shots of our family (hard to do with little ones), he really captured the joy and playfulness of our kids throughout the session.
Kent was laid back, low key, prompt, and professional. Plus, we got our photos back super quick.

Kent is an amazing photographer and he makes it seem effortless. He did a family photo shoot for us a few weeks ago at our home in San Francisco. We are expecting our second child next month and we wanted to capture our family at this moment: My husband, my almost 2 year-​old daughter and me with my giant pregnant belly. I was really nervous about how it was going to work and if we’d have enough time due to the unpredictability of my toddler. Kent was able to pull a shoot together for me in 3 days. He organized it all, including finding wardrobe, hair and makeup. Kent with a camera in action is something to watch, he was very careful and thoughtful during his shoot draws from many different styles. He is very collaborative and creative. It’s easy to work with Kent but expect a lot at the same time. I recommend this guy!
