Established in 1992.

Kit Ruscoe is a performing guitarist, composer and teacher. A member of ASCAP, sinse 2006 he is currently working on film scores and compositions for TV and documentaries. You can always find him playing around the Bay area in several of his bands.

I have been meaning to write this for a long time and finally got around to doing this.
I had enrolled in the Kit’s private guitar lessons sessions at his house. I wish I could continue but I had to stop due to not being able to find enough time.
Kit is an amazing musician and an equally remarkable teacher. I already knew the basic of playing the guitar so he customized the class for me and taught me the technical details and focused on advanced level tutoring. He has the experience and insight to pace his classes to that the student can make progress at the fastest level possible. He techniques are world class and has helped me improve by a tremendous amount in a short period of time. He also makes guitar learning a fun experience and is always eager to answer any questions.

Kit is a world class tutor and I definite recommend his classes to anyone wanting to learn guitar from absolute beginners to advanced guitarists.

Kit can teach anyone how to play guitar within a few months. He has all the tools to teach you how to play well/​jam with others, even if you have never picked up a guitar before in your life.
I have been trying to teach myself guitar for 2 years and, within the last 4 months with Kit, he has helped me work on improving my playing style, taught me how to solo, chord progressions, major/​minor scales, etc. He also helped me fill in the gaps in my learning we didn’t have to waste any time starting from square one. He can also teach you any song, I highly recommend creating a playlist of songs now, in advance, and anticipate learning a song or new technique every week.
Kit also plays in bands all over the city. At least go watch him play at Tupelo in North Beach on a random Wednesday night and prepare to be amazed. Warning: This guy can shred.

Kit is an amazing teacher and musician! Not many artists are both talented in what they do and able to teach it well. I am a true true true beginner with guitar and Kit is always patient and a great communicator. Plus, he has a great sense of humor which is always helpful when you are learning something new!!!

Kit is a really fabulous teacher! My son went to him for electric guitar lessons when he was 11 yrs old. His previous teacher was a dud with a prescribed format. Kit let my son chose the songs he wanted to learn. Also, he is very patient, funny and super enthusiastic, which is infectious. My son thought he was totally cool, as he didn’t act like a typical teacher at all, yet was definitely in charge. The only reason we stopped was that school work got too heavy. He hopes to return to Kit. I want to take guitar lessons from him too, one day when I have time!

Kit’s the man. Perfect choice for anyone — be you an accomplished guitarist or a beginning scrub… the latter being the category me and my buddy fell into when we began joint sessions with Kit a few years ago. Kit had the patience of Job when it came to watching us two hack at whatever song we wanted to learn to play. And, he is a blast to hang out with, as well… great stories about midnight trips across the Mexican border. My pal and I got a little busy with life over the past 6 months, so we took a break, but we’ll be back with Kit in the near future, no doubt… and I’m looking forward to having my kids learn from him as they get a little older, too…
So call Kit, pick yourself up a guitar and have some fun.

j/​k — Actually, the reason I’m writing this and still going to him once a week after 9 months is because he is an awesome teacher! In addition to be being a gifted professional musician, he’s passionate about teaching people how to play, make, and listen to music. He’s a true artist who can listen to any song once and pick up a guitar or bass and play it back and then teach you how to play it, all the concepts used, what makes it good, bad, mediocre, etc. Kit is extremely knowledgeable about music, music history, and theory. He will teach you the building blocks you need to compose your own music and he won’t let you pick up or keep bad playing habits. P. S. Be prepared to laugh — a LOT!

Before I approached Kit for guitar lessons more than an year back, I knew, like everyone else, I’d give up after 2 – 3 months. However, he proved me wrong! Even today, every time I get out of his class I cant wait to get back home and practice.
He’s a great listener. He’ll work with you to improve your technique rather than force upon you conventional methods of teaching!

Can’t say enough about Kit as a teacher. He’s clearly an accomplished player and gigs regularly in town. He can explain the intricacies of chord progressions, their history, why stuff sounds good together, on and on and on. I’ve been studying with Kit for 2 years now and one of the things that’s truly amazing is his continued enthusiasm for teaching and his students — no matter what level. Great teacher. Technically and stylistically very good as a player and good at imparting the knowledge. Uses a bunch of good drills, some of his own devising to help improve students technique and is a great listener
