Literacy And Language Center

My daughter was diagnosed with dyslexia the summer before 8^th grade. She was struggling in school and determined to be at a 3^rd grade level. The Literacy Center was recommended to me and it was a life saver. Amber and Kayla were wonderful to work with. They guided me through the fog of understanding my daughter’s learning disability and most importantly leading my daughter through the program. My daughter is now at grade level and is excited about reading. She just got her first quarter grades for high school and she got all As and Bs. My daughter is no longer frustrated and angry with not being able to do well in school. I have my wonderful daughter back. Thank you Amber and Kayla!

Our experience at The Literacy and Language Center went far beyond our expectations. When we first brought our dyslexic 3^rd grader in to LLC he wasn’t reading much at all. Though he loved audio books and being read to he struggled with reading. After a lot of hard work with the team at LLC he is now a full fledged bookworm!
LLC is a big commitment and not cheap but, worth every penny. They understand how dyslexic children learn to read and they use their expertise to give these kids tools that will serve them for the rest of their lives. In addition to helping my son, LLC supported our whole family by teaching us more about the dyslexic brain and how it works.
We have all learned so much and we are so grateful to Amber, Niku, and the rest of the team at LLC.

Amber and the teachers at The Language and Literacy Center were amazing. Our daughter’s reading level in first grade was behind, and we were really struggling to get her interest level up. They did a great job assessing her, put together a well tailored program, and she came out on the other side well ahead of her grade level. They were able to really teach her a set of skills that has made it so much easier and fun to read. They were even great at figuring out behavior and really gave our daughter a big boost to her confidence. We would absolutely use them again!

Amber, Niku, and the rest of the team at the Literacy and Language Center have done an amazing job helping my older son become a reader. I regularly and whole-​heartedly recommend the LLC to anyone I know or meet that has a student who is struggling academically. Both of my boys are working there this summer on some writing skills – one to keep up and one to get ahead a bit for the upcoming school year. I wish our schools would use this model – then we truly wouldn’t leave any child behind and we could probably stop building so many prisons. Enough with the politics, though. The programs aren’t inexpensive but the end result is worth every penny. You could continue hoping that things will click for your child in his or her current school setting. You could do once a week sessions (tutoring, private practice speech and language therapists or educational therapists). But in the end both of those failed my older son and it took the intensive structure and time-​commitment of the programs used here to make him a reader. The programs used are research based programs (Lindamood Bell programs – there may be additional programs as there are a lot of academic areas that are addressed). If you view education as an investment in your child’s future and they need more help – then this is a place you should take a serious look at.

The Literacy and Language Center is located in a cozy location, right across the street from the Sunset library. Here you will find the friendliest, most caring teachers that make their living on helping you or your child improve upon comprehension, reading, or verbal skills. Niku, Amber and their wonderful team are experienced in teaching kids with dyslexia, autism and ADD.
