History

Established in 1980.

Founder: Edward R. Litwin began practicing immigration law in 1975, when the practice of immigration law was more casual and attorneys, as well as foreign nationals, had more access to adjudicating officers. He learned early on that well prepared cases were usually approved, which means spending more time on each case, but the success rate and happy clients justified the time. After 5 years he left that partnership to begin his own firm, ‘Edward R. Litwin, a Professional Corporation which morphed into ‘Litwin and Associates, a Law Corporation — Immigration Law. The firm now has 2 attorneys and a heavy Silicon Valley presence. The firm has kept its fees competitive, even with many of the law firms that spend less time on their cases and who prepare ‘cookie cutter’ filings.

Business Owner

Robert L. Smith, a shareholder and a principal attorney at Litwin & Smith, has been practicing corporate law since 1986. He graduated from the University of California, Berkley, received his law degree from Gonzaga School of Law, and his LLM in Transnational Business and Taxation from McGeorge School of Law. Throughout his legal career he has focused on the needs frequently encountered by up and coming companies whose employees have entered through the emigration process, entity formation, contract development and negotiation, and federal/​state employee relations. Having an attorney who understands the unique needs of the immigration process and business growth is the foundation to building a successful business strategy in today’s world. Clarity of goals and needs is essential in this fast-​paced economy if high-​growth is to be achieved. Mr. Smith understands that each client is unique, and there isn’t a one-​size-​fits-​all pattern for success.
