Loló Cevicheria

The pork shoulder takes about 10 – 15 minutes but it’s totally worth the wait. Tender and delicious. Saturday night reservations meant I had to sit at the bar but the bartender was super helpful and friendly. I’m anxious to go back and try out the rest of the menu!

This is my favorite restaurant in SF!
The place reflects the best of San Francisco’s personality. It’s random, quirky and entertaining. Very little regards for conventional rules but with a delicious end result.
I’m not sure what I’d call the food style. Tapas is definitely accurate since the menu is mostly composed of small dishes. While the food definitely is Mexican inspired, very little of it consists of traditional Mexican dishes. Most of the menu is stuff you’ve never seen before.
My two favorites are Taco Tropical and Tuna Tacon. But whatever you do, don’t just stick to the stuff that you know. Ask the staff what’s delicious and order something you’ve never had before.
Oh, and their mini chocolate fondue dessert is great!
I also really love the décor as it is as wonderfully surprising as the food. Every wall is a different style completely different from every other wall. Yet it all works well together to create a fun atmosphere.

Ahem. I mean, the FOOD.
Sister restaurant to the popular Lolo, this cevicheria has the same Jalisco inspired menu. The colorful ambiance easily serves as a casual dinner destination.
The ceviche mixto is a popular choice with plump shrimp and chunky cod pieces; although the ceviche at Fresca is much better. Try their fish taco served on a jicama tortilla, but use your knife and fork as this is too wet to be picked up by hand. I love the free chips and salsa but don’t bother with the too small guac ($ 8!) serving. Oddly enough, the fried brussel sprouts with crunchy hazelnuts were loved by all, considering it’s not even a Mexican staple.
The dessert is really fun! I mean, you can’t go wrong with chocolate fondue right? served with assorted fruit and amaretti cookies, you can see smiles all across the table.
Service is spotty! It was especially off putting when he gave us the check when we asked for dessert. Ay papi, wake up!
Good looking servers and saborrr or what not, I’d rather visit other cevicherias in the city. However, my German girls might give them another chance.

Food was fresh, creative, and best of all, yummy. Will go back and taste more dishes. Had an excellent cucumber margarita type drink which goes down way too easy. Wanted more.

First of all! The appearance it has from the outside does not do it justice! It looked like a little sketch Taqueria, but decided to check it out anyway. SO glad I did. The food is delicious! The décor is great! The hostess (from Spain) was also very lovely! Pedro behind the bar was awesome! He was attentive and we didn’t even have to ask on refill for chips! Vote for Pedro and Lolo Cevicheria!

The food was pretty good, bursts of interesting flavors and cool, funky environment. But, we were dismayed about how it ended. First, we arrived at 9:30 with a reservation, and the restaurant closed at 10 on that day. Even when restaurants close, my understanding is that this is when the kitchen stops serving, as opposed to the time diners are expected to leave. I guess the restaurant sees it differently, or at least our severs did. We dined. Around the time that I saw guests starting to leave, I asked for the check to make sure our server didn’t need to «wait» on us anymore. And after I signed my receipt, I continued to eat and converse with my babe. I felt okay about doing so since the waiter and her coworker told us to «take your time.» We weren’t the only «stragglers» there, there was another couple. But then one set of lights in the restaurant came on. Then another. Then it was hella bright. Time to bounce.
So, I don’t mind being wrong about my expectation to stay longer than the closing time; I will clarify this with future reservations that cut it close. But, I do mind the passive aggressive, indirect way of asking us to leave. If it’s not cool, don’t take a 9:30 reservation, let alone tell your diners to take their time. That frustrated us and made us seem like your restaurant staff is unfriendly and rude. Just tell us that the restaurant is closing in X minutes, not just the kitchen.

It was really hard for me to rate this place. The food is actually really good and not too expensive. However, we had the worse waiter I have ever seen, he made a mistake on the desert he was bringing and treated us as liars. He finally gave the desert to the table next to ours and did not apologize. This is the first time I did not let any tips. Not to mention I saw a cockroach coming out of the restaurant.

This is place is the BEST ever!!! The only thing i dislike it that it opens at 5:30pm but i find myself here ever friday night for the GREAT CEVICHE and LOMO SALTADO!

Ordered the plantain chips, Avacado Tacos, Flautas, empanadas… everything was fantastic

I was craving ceviche and this place fullfil it. I called to see if they had any a available seats, the girl on the phone was extremely helpful. We order the ceviche mixto and the shrimp aguachiles they were both delicious. The prices are a bit expensive but worth. Also don’t forget to try the Micheladas yumm.

Make sure you pay attention to whether you made a reservation at Lolo, or Lolo Cevicheria. Being a complete n00b, my colleagues and I walked to Lolo to find out it was actually Lolo Cevicheria I had made reservations at. Lolo was packed on a Thursday night around 7pm, so we walked the few blocks to Lolo, which didn’t take longer than 10 minutes. Lolo Cevicheria is more casual in comparison, and also wasn’t as crazy busy. We were seated right away, and tried:
–Complimentary Chips & Salsas: Yum– the chips were super fresh and crispy, and we liked the different salsas.
–Guacamole (Cotija Cheese, $ 7,
): This is a solid version of guacamole, and tasted really fresh– recommended!
–Corn on the Cob (Cotija Cheese, Mexican Cream, $ 6,
): Good, but not the best version I’ve had. I wish they spread the cream and the cheese all over the corn for you, instead of just drizzling both on top.
–Ceviche de Pescado (Catch of the Day, «Leche de Tigre», Sweet Potato, Fried Plantain Chips, Cancha, Cilantro, Choclo, Limo Pepper, $ 13,
): Just ok for me, but I’m not a huge fan of ceviche to begin with. The fish was very fresh though, and we liked the fried plantain chips.
–Panko Avocado Taco (Flour Tortilla, Oaxaca Cheese, Caramelized Onions, Anaheim Peppers, $ 9): Yum– the buttery avocado went really well with the rest of the ingredients, and I liked that there was just a thin layer of batter. Recommended!
–Fish Tacos (Corn Tortillas, Habanero, Crema, Peanuts, Piquin Pepper Sauce, $ 10): Also really good, and the combination of ingredients was delicious.
–Flan ($ 8,
): Yum– the flan was creamy and smooth, and the caramel wasn’t too sweet. It was difficult to stop eating this– highly recommended!
–Horchata Mousse ($ 8): Also really good, and it was difficult to stop eating this also. Both desserts are quite large, so you definitely get your money’s worth– recommended!
Overall, we had a good meal here, and all the dishes were very reasonably priced. The majority of the food we had was delicious, and it was nice that it was less crowded here so we could actually hear each other talk. Service was friendly and efficient. Parking can be difficult in this area during the dinner rush, but there are street parking spots available.

I almost didn’t come back because of the chicharon tacos being taken off. I was devastated, I took a break and came back to try the carnitas and for the famous ceviche. Not disappointed!

This place had some quite interesting décor. It seemed like it was picked up at a thrift store.
You have two walls with excessive amount of the same décor. One with used aired out bike tires and the other are fish frames. You also have this one area where it was just soles of the shoes (near where we sat).
The night was busy and you’re seated very close with one another. It was hectic.
The food came, it was presented nice, but it lacked alot in flavor. We ordered the tapas. I noticed how overly priced it was. 2 tacos for $ 10? I mean ok, I split it with my date (as tapas should), but 10 $? I also ordered other dishes that was around 8 – 10 $ each. Im guessing its cause of this location. if they were any place else, it’d be cheaper.
Wit the way this place was set up and the look of it, the price doesnt add up unless you consider its on a hot spot street and SF be fancy like that.

We went here last night and loved it! We tasted lots of different things on the menu. We rank them as follows.
Taco Tropical!!! So good. Would eat here again just for those.
A la diabla shrimp. Tasty. Shrimp great. Sauce even better. Bread at the end to mop up!
Empanadas. My wife loved these, so did I.
Ceviche. Fresh and tasty.
Sprouts. Very well done. I don’t usually like brussels sprouts.
Fish Tacos. I love them, my wife not as much. But trust me, they are good!
Shishito Peppers. Ok. Hot. not too much flavor. will skip next time.
Dessert was very tasty. Mexican Ice cream. It is not ranked last. Just only dessert we tasted so its stands alone.
Service was great. Atmosphere… Fun!!! Highly recommend.

TL;DR — Honestly, I’ve never been to the Mission and I’m so glad my dining partner has good taste because now I know what I’ve been missing out on!
Ok, typically, I’m not really into tapas, but I was super impressed by how much I enjoyed the food.
We tried:
Ceviche Mixto ($ 12) — Yum, this was definitely a good mix of seafood. I love the plantain chips and all the different textures!
Tuna Tacon ($ 11) — Its a weird mix for me! The unagi sauce is so tasty, but my mind and my palate couldn’t get along haha. The avocado is definitely really nice to cut through the salty-​ness of the sauce and overall, this dish kinda tasted asian. Pretty good!
Taco Tropical ($ 10) — My FAVORITE of the night, but definitely messy to eat (if you care about that, not a good date choice haha). That jicama «tortilla» was so different and fresh. Yum

Your experience at Lolo Cervicheria varies dramatically depending on what dish you order. For me, consistency is a very important part of how good a restaurant is. Everything you put on a menu should reflect the restaurant in terms of quality, taste, uniqueness. Unfortunately this was not the case with Lolo.
Here’s what you should ORDER:
–White Sangria ($ 28 pitcher; 5 – 6 glasses)
Lolo Cervicheria has good sangria. I did not try the red sangria but the white sangria was delightful with rosemary, oranges, and lime undertones.
–Cerviche ($ 12)
We ordered the cerviche with the fish of the day. The portions are very small but the dish is good.
–Taco Tropical Taco ($ 9 for 2 tacos)
This was the best dish of the night. The texture of the tortilla is interesting and seems a bit like a spring roll wrapper that hasn’t quite softened. Despite this weird description, the crunchiness was pleasant and the flavors were strong.
Here’s what you should AVOID:
–Chips and Guacamole ($ 7)
Tiniest amount of Guacamole I have ever been served. Nothing spectacular. I could have made a better guac at home with 1 avocado (yes, the amount was that little).
–Carnitas ($ 17)
The carnitas were cooked well. Besides that, its your standard corn tortilla, salsa, guacamole. That’s it. Seriously? Let down and not worth $ 17.
–Tostada ($ 7)
A small chip with beans, guacamole, and tomatoes. Nothing special.
Service is good. Reservations are not difficult to get. Our party came at 6pm (when they open) on a Thursday evening and there are plenty of seats. You will probably leave feeling hungry unless you order a lot and pay $$$.

Five stars for the sangria. order one red with cardamom and one white with the grapefruit and rosemary. good luck choosing a favorite. I saw some reviews that said they didn’t like the sangria. unfortunately that happens with where in the pitcher/​pot you are with the sangria (alcohol rises) and with who’s making it (it’s an art). So I guess we got lucky (went after the Dia de los Muertos walk).
Ceviche was good. The one with avocado on a crispy tortilla was top notch. the squid ink was pretty bland.
Service however was excellent.

Maybe I would feel differently about this place if my dining partner had a higher spice tolerance. We ordered everything extra, extra mild. I love spicy food so many that’s why everything just tasted okay. In hindsight I shouldn’t have been so passive.
We ordered
— romaine salad with avocado, jicama, pumpkin seeds — in theory sounds like all the ingredients should go well together but flavor was missing. kind of unforgivable because it’s really not that hard to make a yummy salad.
— panko avocado taco — tasty but could have been spicier
— mixed ceviche — yummy
Next time I go, I’ll just order ceviche and ask for it extra spicy.

I originally wanted to go to a spot down the street for dinner but since my boyfriend and I were so hungry, we walked around the Mission and ended up at Lolo Cevicheria. They were able to accommodate us even though they had a lot of tables left for reservations. We ordered the Ceviche Mixto, Taco Tropical and Beef with rice dish.
I loved the freshness of ingredients in the ceviche. We had shrimp, squid and cod fish in ours that day and everything tasted really good. The Taco Tropical was recommended by the waitress and it was a really interesting take on tacos. Instead of a flour or corn tortilla, they use a thinly slice piece of jicama. It gave a nice and light touch to an otherwise guilty eats kind of dish. The Beef with rice dish was good, but nothing amazing.
Lolo Cevicheria was a nice place for our dinner date that night. It’s a great place to grab a few drinks over food with friends. Nothing to complain about here. :)

Partner brought me here for a date night at the new location. I had previously been to the other Lolo on Valencia as well.

Coconut cream and pineapple juice, like a stronger piña colada with test of bitter herbal arugula
La Catrin: 4.5 stars
For a scotch drink, this was smooth, drinkable and sweet. I would’ve finished it without complaint.

Guacamole: 4 stars
Good, but not 7 bucks good.
La Diabla Shrimp: 3.5 stars
Creamy sauce, and it tasted a little bland at first with a smokey aftertaste, but then holy shit some seeds scalded the left side of my tongue and I was in pain for a good 15 minutes.
Tuna Tacon: 4 stars
Not as good as I remembered at the other location.

After trying to go to a restaurant that we wanted to but failing, we stumbled upon this place!
We are seated almost right away and when we sit, chips are served. We were going to ask for more chips but one of the servers saw us and gave us 2 more bowls of chips!
When our food came out, it just looked bomb. The price isn’t that bad, and totally delicious. I’m so happy me and my girls found this place.
Also, the servers are super nice that they just make you happy you ended up here.

This sweet little spot was surprisingly perfect for a larger dining group, and service was completely on par. Writing this more than a month later, I’m STILL dreaming about the amazing white sangria with fresh rosemary sprigs. Table highlights include the delicious chunky guacamole, beautifully flaky mushroom and Oaxaca cheese empanadas, fried brussels, and my pork belly tacos. Loló is unpretentious with a fabulous menu and great service. What’s not to love?

Tasty, quick, fun and a little bit grungy, which I love. Loló is perfect, and so are their tacos… and ceviche… and guacamole. Another thing that I find outstanding? The service — unfussy, un-​showy and nearly invisible. You ask for something, and it just appears. Magic.
We were a large group and we were hungry. Many things were ordered and it all arrived in a flurry. My favorites? The atun taco and the guacamole. Wash ‘em down with an ice cold Negra Modelo and you’ve got bliss. My colleagues went nuts for the sangria and cocktails, but for me it was all about the beer, and their list is pretty good, especially when paired with the food.
We also did a few rounds of the empanadas stuffed with earthy, cheesy mushrooms and some seriously tasty fried Brussels sprouts that went way too fast. Like I said, the food is good.
I mentioned that the space is a little gritty, but that’s what makes it so charming and cozy. There’s nothing precious about Loló — it’s about fun and food and has this great energy that makes it a magnet. Definitely book ahead and bring a bunch of friends — they even have loads of GF and veg options, which make it easy for everyone, including your wallet.

I have this soft spot in my heart for grungier Mexican restaurants… They just do it for me. I also come from a great barren wasteland regarding really good, authentic Mexican food. Both of those points being made, excuse me because it’s about to get all amateur hour and fangirl-​y up in here…
I really expletive love Lolo.
They were accommodating to our large, rowdy group. They effortlessly handled my vegetarian requests and one of my dining companions’ severe pineapple allergies. They were prompt. And, uh… actually, I can’t really remember the service outside of this because they were just so ninja-​like in their ways. Bravo.
Chips?
Salty, crunchy, and perfect with any adult beverage you choose to get.
Complimentary random red spicy sauce?
It actually made my heart hurt. Then again, I’m getting on in years and can’t handle my spice like I used to without a little heart burn relief aid. That being said, I kept eating this because it was so good despite the pain it caused me.
Complimentary orange cheese sauce?
Like elevated nacho cheese out of a jar. And daaaaayum if we don’t all crave that from time to time, eh? All goopy like.
Guacamole?
YES. Chunky! And while you could taste the individual components, it still tasted like what you hope guacamole you’re paying for would taste like (that makes sense, right?).
Mushrooms and cheese empanada?
Creamy and meaty on the inside with a golden brown crusty, flaky exterior. I wasn’t expecting these to be so plump or flavorful, but they were.
Avocado tacos?
I am disappointed that there were only a couple on the plate… I could have easily eaten about nineteen of these (no, I’m not kidding). Panko avocado tacos with Oaxaca cheese, caramelized onions, and Anaheim peppers. In my mouth. All day long.
Sangria?
I am SO THANKFUL someone switched their sangria for my margarita, but am SO BUMMED that I only got to drink one glass of this stuff. So, the next time I’m here (oh yes, there will be a next time), I’ll just have one pitcher for me and me alone, please!
Final thoughts?
Why does this place have to exist on the opposite coast from me?! IT’S UNFAIR.
