Louis Custom Upholstery

They may be good upholsterers. I wouldn’t know! I called in November, was told they were busy until after the holidays. i called first week of January, message said they where on vacation. I called when vacation was over and was given a date to come in. When i went by it was closed. I tried to call on my cell, no answer. Someone later called to apologize and said to call back in a week as they had a funeral. The next week I was called again to say that the upholsterer had retired and I needed to find someone else. So, unfortunately, thinking I had found a great upholsterer on Unilocal,I now need to go back to looking!

I read about Louis Custom Upholstery on Unilocal,and decided make an appointment. I am glad I did. I have a chair & ottoman that i love, and my two large dogs love it too. As a result it was showing some wear and tear.
Mr. & Mrs. Moran are very knowledgable and experienced. The selection of fabrics was very large with a variety of price ranges, which helped me stay on budget. I bought a little extra fabric because Mrs. Moran explained that high end furnitue designers match the pattern of the fabric, and line it up the designs and furniture looks like «art» as a result.
The project was done on time and on budget. My new «art» is beautiful!
Mr. And Mrs. Moran are also extremely nice and friendly people. I look forward to doing business with them again.

Chose them, based on Unilocal reviews, to re-​do some saggy sofa accent pillows.
They have been in business for 40+ years, are a delightful couple, and did an excellent job.
The pillows turned out perfectly.

We just received our sofa today and we are thrilled! The finish is simply fabulous. it looks like new. the old foot rest has been completely redone and is pristine.

Quite honestly, five stars does not even come close the the quality of work and the customer service one will find at Louis. This is the first Unilocal review I have ever written, but I felt compelled to do so after my wonderful experience with this shop. To begin with, Louis and Dolores are two of the nicest people I have ever met. But more importantly, their work is professional and artistic. I cannot recommend this shop highly enough.
I brought in an old cane couch in need of cushions hoping it would turn out nice (especially after the nightmare experience I had at another upholsterer). Well, my jaw dropped when I went in to pick up the finished product. It was well beyond my modest expectations. I could not believe the beautiful piece of furniture I was standing in front of was the same old cane sofa I had brought in a few weeks before. And not only is it breathtakingly beautiful, it is comfortable as well. I cannot believe I paid so little for so much!

Great experience all around. They worked with fabric I had brought home from Thailand (even though they needed to add a backing to make it upholstery worthy), went above and beyond to get my chair back to me in time for an Easter brunch (even though they were leaving on vacation), honored their original quote — which was very reasonable — although it ended up being a bit more work than anticipated. A lovely family and beautiful work. Can’t say enough good things about them.

great family business. the service was amazing as everyone says it is. i brought in a old satee with awful pink fabric and lumpy cushion that my mom found on the sidewalk. i decided to reupholster it after a year in my garage. it took about a week, she quoted 306.97 (3 yards of microsuede and labor). a little more than what i planned on spending and didnt get an estimate anywhere else since it was only 3 blocks from my house. but im sure its competitive with everyone within a 2 mile radius. i was planning to use this as a dog bed, but im scared my yorkie will dirty their work. they do pick ups and deliveries too. overall, it was worth the money.

gave me change to put in the meter while i waited for them to finish putting on a button!

Absolutely fabulous.
I had a seemingly impossible vintage chair reupholstered & it looks like an art deco dream. The upholstery fabric selection in store included precisely what I was hoping for and the finished product looks even more beautiful than it did in my over-​active imagination.

Louis and his family are absolutely delightful to work with. I was looking for a re upholsterer to give a little love to my grandmother’s old chair and 2 chairs I purchased at a garage sale. After an incredibly disappointing experience with Cortland Upholstery, I found Louis (on Unilocal!). They are knowledgeable, timely and incredibly good at their craft. I cannot thank them enough. I will continue to use them and highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for quality reupholstering work at a reasonable price. Thank you Thank you Thank you!

Louis reupholstered a sofa. He did a great job and even fixed a weak leg and added some material to stiffen up the seat cushions without me even asking. Here’s the interesting part: Based on previous advice, I had already purchased 19 yards of fabric (very small repeat pattern). Another well-​reviewed upholstery shop wanted the same price as Louis plus it INSISTED that it needed 26 yards (with a $ 10/​yard cutting fee). Louis did the job with about 17 yards. It turns out that extra fabric saves time during the cutting process, but is otherwise a total waste.

Louis, his wife and his son are lovely human beings who do the best upholstery I’ve ever seen. The first piece they did for us was a rocking chair, which we took to the shop — that was nearly 13 years ago. When we picked it up, it looked like a new piece of furniture.
A few years later, when our housekeeper wrecked our sofa, Louis to the rescue! He and his son came to our house with swatches, made recommendations after we chatted about what we wanted, and whisked the sofa away. A week later it was back, better than before. Louis told us that he ended up doing a lot of work on the frame because he wasn’t happy with the original craftsmanship, in addition to the contracted upholstery. It didn’t cost us a penny extra.
A few years after that we wanted to get our 10 dining room chairs redone. Louis came again with swatches, we chose what we wanted. He ended up coming down with the flu and having to postpone pick-​up of the chairs. He felt bad because we needed them back in time for Thanksgiving, which by then was just a few days away. He got the chairs done in time, they were gorgeous, and he didn’t charge us for the rush job.
This family-​owned business is a good reminder of what can be. They are skilled artisans who take pride in excellent work. They offer a range of fabrics at various price points and in lots of different styles, and are forthright about differences in quality. They don’t oversell you. They want you to be happy. They are also kind and a pleasure to be around. I wish I had furniture to take to them weekly; I look forward to seeing them that much!

This upholstery shop is in my neighborhood so I thought i’d give them a try when I needed two chairs and an ottoman reupholstered. I went there and picked out the fabric I wanted and Louis came to my house and gave me a reasonable estimate. He came by when he said he would to pick up the furniture and had it completed when he said it would be done. The chairs and ottoman look beautiful and the workmanship is excellent. I would hightly recommend this place and I would definately use them again.

I had my mother-in-law’s 1960’s sofa and chair cushions completely remade with fabric I selected plus contrasting welt. The job is impeccable. She is happy. I am pleased I maintained her trust in fabric selection. A good upholsterer can make fine fabrics even better.

It’s hard to even express how happy I was to work with husband, wife and son!
I was ready to get rid of a chaise lounge that had been around in my family since before I was born (and it definitely looked that way!). After getting a reasonable quote from Louis, I decided this was worth a shot.
For a bit extra, they were able to pick up my chaise lounge and deliver it to me when it was done. I provided the fabric and they gave me back something that is simply amazing. Not only that, the fabric was patterned and they were able to reupholster it in such a way that everything is ENTIRELY symmetrical. I would have thought something like this would be impossible. They worked wonders. Their follow-​through was incredible (especially after working with other companies that seem to drop off the face of the earth).
I just can’t say enough great things. If they read this, I want to once again say ‘Thank you!!!’

This is really a hidden treasure. They have great customer service and do excellent work with reasonable prices. I had a few pieces of furniture reupholstered by them and they did a great job. They have lots of fabrics to choose from and were very helpful and accomodating. I could not be happier and have gotten several compliments (unsolicited) re the furniture they worked on. They also do fabulous window treatments! This is a family owned business and they have lots of repeat customers.

So my husband and I found these two great chairs at a garage-​sale in the marina. Beautiful dark wood that just needed some reupholstery love. We first took it to Russian Hill Upholstery & Décor since it was close to our house, but we were appalled by the horrible customer service so decided to haul our chairs else where. So we ended up at Louis and found better service at a nice price!

The husband/​wife team who own this shop are fabulous and SO nice. They did a great job fixing the buttons on my couch, which were popping off like no tomorrow. I also feel they charged a fair price. Another bonus, they’re fluent in Spanish.
