Luke’s Local

I eat out a lot and my Luke’s Local meals are at least as good as my restaurant entrees that cost at least twice as much (plus tip, etc.). It’s a great deal and the food is so much better than I imagined. Service has been great, too. I could eat every meal from Luke’s Local, seriously, and I am a picky.

First time catered a whole Thanksgiving dinner for the family. Luke’s is amazing! Rather than ordering the full set, I got a half turkey, 4 side dishes (mashed potato, stuffing, brussels sprouts, & yam), their spiced cranberry sauce, and a pecan pie. Everything was de~li~cious, esp. the brussels sprouts and turkey which are hard to impress in general! The driver arrived on time and dishes were packed nicely with instructions. All you need to do is throwing everything in the oven for an hour till they are warmed up! What I ordered was enough for six adults (around $ 170). No leftover in terms of the side dishes. Very glad that I let Luke’s prepare my Thanksgiving this year, and would definitely consider doing it again!

I set up food delivery services with both Luke’s Local and Blue Apron. After three deliveries from each I will definitely be staying with Luke’s and canceling Blue Apron.
The food has been nothing short of convenient and delicious!

WOW! I am super impressed with Luke’s Local! Food was brought in from Luke’s Local for a business meeting yesterday and it far exceeded my expectations. AMAZING wraps, salads, sandwiches and cookies. Everything was fresh, high quality and tasty. I’ve recommend we ONLY use Luke’s Local for future meetings based on how fabulous the food was. I highly, highly recommend Luke’s!

Review for their catered lunch
We had several wraps/​burritos (chicken, veggie and roast beef) and a greek side salad. I was a little skeptical since mentally I was expecting a warm lunch. I personally had the chicken pesto wrap and it was quite tasty. Nice balance of pesto, chicken and lettuce. The greek salad was also nicely done and the portion size was good for our size.
Co-​workers also liked their meal from the veggie wrap to the roast beef wrap. The presentation were all nice handled. A keeper on our list of places to order from.

Way late in this review… from our last year’s Thanksgiving meal!
So apparently, Luke’s Local does Thanksgiving, and we decided to make our lives easier in hosting a party of 9, and have most of it catered this year.
The smoked and brined Turkey was juicy and amazing — and very easy to heat up.
We ordered a few sides as well. I will say that for some of the sides, the estimate that it serves 8 to 9 was really high (especially for the Creamed or Mashed Potatoes — that was for more like 5 people.). Thankfully we also had plenty of our own homemade sides, so it wasn’t a problem.
The really amazing side dish that we ordered from Luke’s was the Brussel Sprouts. We don’t even normally like Brussel Sprouts, but this was the best veggie dish I had had in years.
The Crab Mac n’ Cheese was the one side dish that was anti-​climactic and a little dry and bland. But the other sides were really good, and that turkey was among the best I’ve ever had.
The delivery was right on the money in the given time window. Good experience and highly recommend for Thanksgiving, if you’re really busy and don’t really have the time to cook for a medium-​to-​large party.

First delivery and I’m smitten!
We had a baby in October, and I’ve been struggling to cover off on all the steps required to get good, healthy food on our table ever since. If I can manage to get to the Farmer’s Market, I run out of time to cook. If I cook dinners, I don’t have meals to have for lunch. If I make lunches, we end up ordered in for dinner. Just too many things to try to do. Argh!
I just got my first delivery from Luke’s, and this takes care of so much of the problem. Fresh produce — including the best strawberries I’ve ever eaten — CHECK! A few meals to take for lunch — CHECK! My family will eat better this week than we have in a while, and I’m so deliriously happy about it. (Seriously … eating good food makes you happy!)
I’m already plotting my next order …

My husband and I have been so delighted with the quality of the dairy and produce we order from Luke’s. We now exclusively buy their eggs (so much better than the ones in the store, visually and in taste!) and whatever seasonal fruits and veggies they have available (their strawberries and citrus fruits are off the hook delicious right now). They did get one thing wrong with our order once and they were so quick to respond. I was really impressed with how available and generous they were. We can’t get everything we need from Luke’s, but their available local products have become a wonderful and permanent compliment to our weekly shopping experience (who doesn’t love delivery)!

I was interested in trying a fresh delivery service, and stubbled upon Luke’s Local from a blog reviewing food delivery services. I thought I would give it a try, and am so happy I did! I ordered enough food for 3 meals (for 2 people), market flowers, and blue bottle coffee. Living in SJ, it was a nice benefit to get the Blue Bottle coffee delivered (versus going up to the city).
I purchased 2 Chef’s prepared Fish meals (fish and chips), a Fox Den Margherita, 2 Chef’s prepared veggie dish (pasta), and 2 salads: Kale salad & the market greens. The fish chef prepared meal was a good portion for one person, and my husband felt so as well. Although I paired the vegetarian pasta dish with the market salad, I was left a bit hungry (however, I had skipped lunch and was starving). I paired one kale salad with the Fox Den Margherita pizza — which was enough for both my husband and me. The market flowers were fresh, and unlike flowers you pick up at Farmer’s market or at the grocery store, Luke’s flowers were fresh enough to last an entire week!
Bottomline — I highly recommend Luke’s local. I love that they have the chef prepared options which only require 2 – 3 mins of heating. This is a great option for busy people who don’t have a lot of time to prep meals during the week.
Tip — keep your box and ice packs. Luke’s recycles and will pick-​up your box and ice packs at your next delivery.

Loving Luke’s — wonderful food fabulous service great prices — I can give up cooking for Luke’s.

Love, love, love this delivery service and I hope it never goes away! The fresh flowers are such a nice touch. Delicious meals, fantastic produce, beautiful flowers, professional delivery — I’m a big fan.

We’ve been ordering almost weekly from Luke’s Local for the past couple of months. We are a busy, working couple with a child so it’s been a lifesaver having a fresh healthy meal prepared when we get home or a quick grab and go lunch available on work days. We usually order a mix of the salads, lunchbox, fruit bundle, and just tried the ramen meal kit last week (AMAZING). There really isn’t a better service out there that combines fresh (not frozen) ready to eat meals along with pantry goods, fruit & veggie additions, and eggs and milk. I highly recommend Luke’s Local! Their customer service is outstanding as well!

Tried Luke’s Local for the first time tonight and loved it! I ordered some fresh produce and a few of the dinner meals. Everything was nicely presented and exceeded expectations. I’m usually skeptical of meal delivery services, but in this case I will definitely be a repeat customer.

I used Lukes Local for the first time yesterday for meal delivery. I have a 3-​hour per day commute, a full time job, a 7-​year old and a husband that works out of town. The idea of home-​cooked meals delivered is heaven. So I’m really hoping we wind up liking the meals. But our first experience was pretty mediocre. I’m hoping they just need to get the hang of mass-​production and delivery because the idea is wonderful, the execution left a bit to be desired.
The good: I found the service and delivery super accommodating. The kale salad was exactly as described and expected. Was quite good.
The not so good: The Llano Seco Italian Sausage and Orecchiette Pasta looked *nothing* like the photo. The photo showed individual pieces of pasta. What arrived seemed to be very overcooked. The pasta all sort of blended together into a mass with a completely different color and look than the menu. But the taste wasn’t bad at all. I think they either over-​cooked the dish, or something happened happened in either the mass-​production or in the delivery to make the pasta all pasty and sticky. The BBQ Chicken Wings had an OK flavor but were too spicy for our tastes. But the real fail on the chicken was that it seemed far too undercooked. The meat was not dangerous — it was just chewy as all get-​out. We were largely unable to eat the wings. It’s like they were cooked for only 20 mins instead of 60 and thus the fibers were all still intact and the skin was fully fleshy and a thick layer of fat and the meat was still clinging tightly to the bone. I’ve made chicken wings for parties and never had such a bad texture on the meat. I think they were undercooked.
Please Luke, work out kinks like these and we’ll be loyal customers!

My girlfriend and I have been ordering from Luke’s for over a month. We highly recommend them.
Once a week we get delivered to our door fresh yummy local produce at a reasonable price. Plus we can order a great meal or two if we do not feel like cooking as much that week. My girlfriend is a huge fan of the «cheese of the week.»
Luke’s has seriously improved the quality of lives in terms of health and food quality since we started ordering from them.

This review is overdue, but I promised an update, so here it is. The customer service is impeccable and professional. I got to choose a few items and delivery date to make up for the literally buggy first delivery, so I chose to get 2 rock cods and 1 chicken tikka masala. They arrived a day early, followed by an apologetic email from customer support that they don’t usually deliver to the East Bay on the day I had originally requested, and if I wanted them to re-​deliver. I figured I had already put them through enough trouble at this point so even though it came on an inconvenient day to us, there’s always the fridge!
The next day I have to have dinner by myself, so I pull out one of the rock cods. It’s really cool how it comes in this metal container that’s both oven AND microwave safe! I didn’t think that was possible, but I tested it in both just because I was skeptical, and nothing caught on fire. I decided I would save and reuse the container later, and be a true Berkeley-​graduated eco-​friendly citizen. ;)
With all that blabber aside (I’ve been trying to put this part off because I feel bad for what I’m about to write)…I honestly did not enjoy the rock cod and chicken tikka masala dishes that we ate for the rest of the week. Something about the flavors were off… regarding the tikka masala, I’m not Indian but it did not taste like an Indian restaurant’s tikka masala, which is usually probably slightly closer to authentic.
My final rating is a solid 3.5, rounded up to 4 because the staff has been so good. Food quality of prepared meals is a 3 to me, the meal kits WOULD be a 4 if no bugs are included, and customer service is a 5.

Luke’s local is amazing!
We eagerly await our Tuesday mealbox delivery and have turned it into an incredibly fun recurring date night. We both love to cook but found ourselves making similar things week after week, or not having the time to get fresh ingredients. Luke’s has broken us out of our mold and is teaching us how to cook delicious and interesting new dishes each week. I could not be more pleased with the recipes or the ingredients.
Anyone who is debating whether or not to start their weekly mealbox service should stop looking and order now! You will not be disappointed!

Had food catered by Luke’s Local at work. They were nicely packed individual boxes which came with a wrap, a plum and a little salad. I had the Sumac chicken wrap, no idea what that it is but hit the spot.
