he should probably be out of business by now or changed his business’ name so old bad business can’t follow him
this review is long coming. he replaced by old old heater in 2007.
being an old unit, i imagine there will be asbestos in the ducts. initially, he wanted to rip it out with his guys… easy peasy. i demanded that it be removed properly. he hired some professional folks to remove it properly… very happy.
after the scary stuff was removed, he removed the old heater and installed the new one… seemed straight forward.
here comes the problem. these guys were just amateurs.
while removing the old stuff, they did NOT put up simple plastic barriers to protect my house from debris and soot. when i got home, i noticed this film all over the place. it was a pain to clean.
they install some new heat pipe in the outside of the house but do not seal where it mates with the old. so i had to buy roofing material and seal it myself.
lastly, the professional asbestos folks they hired to remove the asbesto… he did not pay and they were calling me.
i’m sure this is more the exception than the normal.
if you deal with him, ask him to explain these negative reviews.
if he does the work, i would hold back 30%. it would motivate him to pick up the phone and finish the work.

Ok, I met Elmer (yes Elmer) through someone I met breifly and had used Elmer on a previous job. I called Madrid Heating and arranged for him to come by my house and provide me a estimate. No problem, he arrived after rescheduling the first time (not bad). Elmer is a nice guy, middle age, company van with logo. He sounds like he knows his trade well. I going through a program that needs him to complete a form and if he can do my windows as well, he says yes and will have his guy call me. Well it goes all down hill from here, no call from his guy. I try to call Elmer, can’t leave message, try for 3 days and still can’t leave message. Now Elmer is supose to have dropped off form for me, no show on that, never calls, never here from his guy either. SO, I finally reach Elmer and he says he had a headache and that is why no call or show, but he will drop of paper on Friday… Well, needless to say Elemer never dropped off info, never got a call back and never returned my call once I was able to leave message… I would not refer you to this guy. CHECK OUT ORTIZ HEATING…

Wanted to share a great experience I’ve just had replacing my heating system through Madrid Heating. Elmer (the owner) and his crew were very efficient and professional throughout the whole process.
1– Price: unbeatable. If you are prospecting, do get a quote from Elmer.
2– Elmer takes time to explain the process, answers any question, and comes up with good ideas on layout and setup.
3– Efficient: whole job for a 4BR 2400sqf house was done in 2 days, including one day to safely remove old asbestos-​covered ducts. I had my new heater smoothly running in the evening.
I highly recommend this business.

I used Madrid because I was hard up to get someone in fast to change my wall heat registers to be in the floors to go with my upstairs remodel. The reviews were not positive but my initial phone call was pleasant. Elmer said he’d be over quickly and didn’t make it on time, but eventually made it that day, which was nice. The pleasure stopped there.
Elmer mentioned he was busy but committed to fit me in the next day. First, he said he would be in Tuesday, he didn’t make it and never called. I called him, he said he’d be in Thursday. On Thursday, no show and no call. Once again, I called him, he said he’d be in Saturday. Again, no show and no call. Finally, he said he’d be in Tuesday (1 week/​1 day after our initial chat) which was the last day i had before the floors would be sanded/​finished. I called him Tuesday am and let him know I was going to stay home for work for him and asked if he’d really come. He said he would, and this time he did come. The job ended up taking about an hour.
One final note, the initial job we talked about was more involved then what we did in the end. he quoted 375, when it was time to pay, he asked, how much did I say, 400? I said 375, he said ok, then I reminded him that the work was much different then the quoted work and he said, «how about 250», i said fine and was happy to get the work behind me.
In the end, the quality of the work was average, but it was a very low effort, and I easily spent over a thousand bucks of my own time staying home from work/​staying home my entire saturday waiting for him to show…

Set up an appointment for an estimate. Guy never showed. No phone call, nothing. Took time out of my day to stay home for this, thanks.

My furnace died … my mom, aunt, sister and niece were coming to visit the next day.
The date: December 18^th
The temperature: 47 degrees
I called them at 6:00 pm, they came to inspect the furnace that SAME evening and made all the arrangements with the landlord. He came in the VERY NEXT DAY and did most of the work … he left us with a working furnace that heated the house oh so much better and quicker than the old one. Great and prompt service … I highly recommend them … so does my mom :)
EDIT: Just for perspective … I had called 4 other companies and none of them were able to do anything until after Christmas … these guys are AWESOME!

First impression was good but service after installation was terrible. My new furnace was installed over 2 months ago and Madrid Heating still needs to come back to patch the stucco for a hole that they made for a new vent. I was told they would come back within days, and I’ve been chasing them on the phone since then. Left many messages, they never returned my call. I finally called at 7am and talked to Elmer: he promised to get back to me within a couple of days… that was more than a week ago he hasn’t called me back. In addition to the stucco work left unfinished, here are a few other issues with the furnace, ducts and vents they installed:
— a small room is getting too much air flow, I could dry my hair if I stayed by the vent.
— the outlet in the bedroom is noisy
— Elmer advised against a variable speed furnace, saying that a regular furnace of smaller size would be just as silent. WRONG. I’ve had a variable speed in our previous house and it was much more silent than the one Elmer installed.
Overall, my verdict is:
— most of their advice is valid (e.g. it is much better to get a 92% efficiency furnace than an 80%, you save a lot of energy and the initial cost is almost the same) but don’t believe in everything they recommend: check with multiple sources. In my experience, a variable speed furnace is indeed more silent.
— Installation was very professional… except they didn’t finish to patch the stucco
— Once they leave your house you won’t be able to make them come back. I hope my furnace doesn’t blow up in the winter time…

Elmer did a great job and nobody can compare to him on price and service

I just had Madrid replace my 30’s heater and duct work with a new heater and air filter system. The price was well within my own estimate, the products and installation crew top notch. Elmer himself was great — good listener while still being enthusiastic about the job, confident and knowledgeable, and knew the moisture issues in this area (south-​western SF) well. Will tap for projects in the future.

I was referred to Madrid Heating by online site. Our project was the replacement of 1960s style gravity furnace with new furnace and new ductwork, also the replacement of the water heater with tankless system. They went the extra mile for us not leaving us one night without furnace heat or hot water. Elmer mounted our furnace on the ceiling of the garage. Good call dude, opened up a lot of space.
They even hauled away our ductwork, furnace and water heater. They completed the entire task, ducts, electric, plumbing.
The air flow is a bit uneven, he did not install dampeners. The tankless system takes way longer than the old fashioned one because of where he put it. Did it quick and on budget though! You get what you pay for.
