This is one of my favorite places to come. Delicious food and great service and very clean place! Definitely recommend it. Every time we go there we have a great experience!

The Saigon noodle soup was decent but not spectacularly yummy. Broth tasted like water. Shrimps were dry and not fresh. I would not go eat here again. Quiet small restaurant with a peaceful ambiance.

tried this place on tuesday because our usual go-to vietnamese restaurant on clement was closed. mai’s has some legit REALLYSPICY bun bo hue. it’s not very traditional, but i was a big fan of the noodle texture and the fact that this restaurant could actually throw down a genuinely spicy dish without me having to specifically ask for it. that being said, the broth was so spicy that i couldn’t really taste anything but spice. i couldn’t tell if the broth had depth or flavor. all i could think about were my tastebuds screaming from being on fire. i’m talking the kind of spice where drinking water makes it that much more painful. but, call me a masochistic. because at the end of the day, i really enjoyed that spicy bowl of goodness. the pork hock meat was very good, though the other pork meat was a bit chewy and could’ve been more tender. at the end of the day, i’d give this place 3.5 stars for being able to satisfy even though we had no intention of coming here that day.

Had a great, quick lunch here on a weekday. Love the phở! Food: I had the beef phở. The broth was SO good. I enjoyed every bite of this and can’t wait to get it again. Ambiance: This place is small, but very clean. We sat near the window which was nice. It was very warm for some reason though, almost uncomfortable, which was strange for a winter day. I definitely got even warmer after eating my soup :) Service: No complaints here. Our check came when we asked for it and our food was fast.

My family has been going here since it opened in the 1980’s, and it’s a favorite spot of our family. The quality of good is incredible and you definitely taste it in how well spiced and cooked it is. The food is paralleled by the customer service, as anyone and everyone is always welcome and welcomed at Mai’s!

Wonderfully sweet couple who owns this local spot. The food is fresh, healthy and satisfies a Vietnamese craving. Definitely try the shrimp wrapped sugarcane appetizer-for a hands on experience.

This place has the best phở on Clement St. The couple that runs the place are so nice and the food is delicious. Imperial rolls are a must try for your first visit, also recommend the vegetarian options. Explore the menu for their true specialties. Recipes and techniques taken from Vietnamese tradition are present here.

Best seafood noodle soup ever! My other favorite is the cold noodles with empireal rolls! Mom and pops kind of restaurant, very modest but the attention is great, food is amazing!

If you can make it over to Mai’s at lunch time on a weekday, you should. It is never busy and the service is excellent. When you come, make sure you have the wraps, it’s a fun and unique dish. You get a bowl of hot water, some hard rice wrappers, and a few plates of meat, noodles, and veggies. You dip the rice wrapper in the water then make your own roll. The taste is great, but the experience is the most memorable aspect and has me coming back.

I have walked by this restaurant many times and I always wondered if the food was good. Well, about a week ago my friends and I decided to have lunch here. I had the spice BBQ chicken; even though the chicken was dark meat, it was dry and too salty. The Imperial rolls were bland, almost tasteless. Also the lemonade I got was really squeezed from lemons, the only issue was that the lemons weren’t fresh! Service was a bit slow but the staff were friendly. The only pleasant thing about my experience was that Mai’s was clean, I can’t think about any other positive thing about this place. I will never go to Mai’s again. Once was enough.

Since when was 15% gratuity automatically added for 3 items??? Then the printed receipt says it’s the«pre-tip» amount??? Just another example of a greedy Asian establishment.

The food was amazingly prepared I had the #67 and it was delicious. The food was prepared quickly and the service was impeccable. The feeling of authentic mom and pop Vietnamese food is in this place. Love it 5 stars!

This is the restaurant that I judge all others by and I mean that literally. I’ve told tons of people about this place. I used to visit here often when I lived in San Francisco and while the trek there, and attempt at parking nearby was always a bit of a chore, I would still visit again and again. Go earlier than you think because if you’re driving, you may be circling a while. The food was delicious, the service good but, neither were groundbreaking. Same for the ambience. However, it always was consistent in providing me with a pleasurable experience, and those are the things that I look for in reviewing a restaurant, no matter what cuisine. I’m partial to the Ga La Lot but you won’t go wrong with anything, and I never felt the wait for a table, service, or meal was ever unacceptable. For these reasons, I will always visit again when I’m in the Bay Area.

How do I love Mai’s? Let me count the ways. I love it so much, I have been going there for(mumble mumble) years. I have brought every person I ever dated or was in a relationship with there. The couple who run it are incredibly sweet. I always order the same things. Vegetarian imperial rolls. Large, caramelized, crispy cylinders of perfection, wrapped in lettuce, with a few rice noodles tucked in, dipped in the world’s best nuoc cham and dabbed with a bit of hot sauce. The crab/shrimp fried rice is also delish. I also love the made-to-order vegetarian rice paper rolls, which are filled with a toothful, chewy mixture of cabbage, tofu, tree ear mushrooms and shiitakes, served with a peanut sauce. And the lemongrass chicken is chock-full of fragrant lemongrass slivers. Must. Go. Now. Too damn bad I’m not actually in San Francisco at the moment. See you soon, Mai’s! Wait for me!!!

I ordered the grilled pork rice dish with ¾ of the plate covered in rice with tiny portion of pork and two slices of cucumber. Pork isn’t even expensive so why not be more generous? The fish sauce was weak and the pork was bland. And this place isn’t Vietnamese at all, they’re authentic Chinese.

I had just an appetizer(spring rolls) here before I came in here today. The rolls were what had brought me back here, but tonight I was extremely disappointed. We ordered the lemongrass pork and the 5 spice chicken RICE bowls with Tamarind tofu as a to-go order. When we opened the package up at home, it was. 1. Vermicelli noodles versus rice(confirmed twice with waiter) 2. There is nothing special or even good– in fact it was way below average 3. Tofu was dry, drenched in over sweetened sauce I was very disappointed and I felt like we wasted our money here. I wouldn’t come back here.

This was a last minute option before a show we were seeing down the street. While many of the other spots on the street looked more appealing, they also had much longer waits so we opted for Mai’s. Probably a mistake. Overall, it was ok. My food was way too salty. It was also pretty bland. The service was insanely slow and once we located the waitress and placed our order it took forever. We didn’t really order anything special, just standard rice and noodle options.

I love this place! It’s one of my favorite Vietnamese places in the Inner Richmond area. I like that they have a variety of dishes — from claypots to phở to curry to rice plates to rolls… etc. It’s also nice that this is a friendly mom & pop shop — support local! I’ve tried quite a few things and they’re all delicious. I can’t see their menu online, but my favorite is actually the rolls(where you build your own rolls by dipping the rice paper in the water and then making your own wrap with your filling of choice + basil + mint + carrots, etc) I remember it’s about $ 15 but it can definitely feed 2 – 3 people! I usually get it with the sugarcane shrimp. I’ll update the review once I can find the name of what it is. lol.
