Meet the Manager

Mikel D.

Manager

During his ten year training in Chinese Martial Arts, including traveling to China for advanced

Qi Gung trainings, Mike discovered the healing powers of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). This brought him to The Five Branches Institute where he earned a

Masters in TCM, specializing in orthopedic and musculo-​skeletal acupuncture. Mike furthered his training by completing an internship in internal medicine at the Zheijang University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China. In addition, Mike

has completed the 300 hour Lerner Education course in orthopedics, and also has certification

in acupressure and tui na from the Acupressure Institute. He is an avid surfer and cyclist and has been an athlete most of his life. Mike is licensed by the California State Acupuncture Board to practice Acupuncture and Herbology and is board certified by the National Board of Acupuncture Orthopedics in acupuncture orthopedics.

I was having trouble with insomnia and anxiety. The acupuncture treatment helped me immensely. I feel much more calm and centered as a result. I recommend Mikel and this office. It’s a great environment and the treatment works. I really noticed the difference.

After having had knee pain for several weeks during half marathon training I decided to try acupuncture. Mikel worked on me twice and I have had no pain since then (about 4 weeks now). My knee feels better than ever and I just ran my fastest time ever!

I had always wanted to get Accupuncture and Mike came highly recommended. I have had a few sessions with him and each one was a big breakthrough for me. He is definitely someone I personally would recommend if you are thinking about trying Accupuncture for the first time or even if you have in the past and are looking for someone new. He is very personable, caring, thorough and professional — he truly *knows* what he’s doing!

If you want to quit smoking, Mikel is the one to see for acupuncture. After my first session with him, my cravings were gone. I was blown away! For the first time in my 14 years of smoking I am absolutely confident that I am free of this addiction. Mikel is VERY knowledgeable with his treatment approach and an amazing support system. Acupuncture is a very effective way of kicking the habit and Mikel is a gifted practitioner. I am so grateful to have found him and highly recommend him! If you are considering quitting smoking or any other addiction, acupuncture is definitely the way to go!

I have been getting acupuncture from Mikel for over a year now. I have benefitted from it greatly. I am treated for a multitude of ailments. He is very knowledgeable about Chinese Medicine. He is flexible with his appointment schedule. I didn’t know Mikel prior to seeking Acupuncture, but now i feel as if he has been my friend for years.

about a year ago I broke my neck and wrist in a motorcycling accident, and went to Mikel for some treatment.
I should also mention that my groin was in pretty bad shape, making walking a bit of a challenge. Anyway after my first treatment with mikel most of my back and neck pain seemed to go away, and while my groin took a while to fully heal, walking became a lot more comfortable.
Mikel takes his work seriously, without being overbearing.
His clinic is very comfortable, and I felt very much at home there, unlike other clinics that Iv visited.

Mikel is very thorough and knowledgable. I have been to him for sciatica and for bike riding injuries and each time have felt lasting relief. He explains everything without being overly chatty and he takes his time during treatments. He asks plenty of questions and provides useful information to take with you. The treatment office is soothing and quiet. Highly reccommended!
