Minoo Makassebi, DDS

Great support! I received very helpful practical suggestions. Everyone was efficient, yet happy, fun, and good-​natured. Dr. Makassebi listened to what I needed and helped me get exactly what I asked for. I usually dread going to the dentist, but Dr. Makassebi and her team make the experience both productive AND pleasant!

Dr. Mak’s team created the best client experience I have had in a long time. My concerns, my questions, my needs were the focus for the everyone. Right from my initial contact with Krystal, who spent at least 15 mins with me, explaining the new client process then within a few mins I had all the documents I needed to complete prior to my visit. It’s difficult to talk during your appt but Caroline my hygienist talked to me consistently, she spent her time explaining procedures, dental health issues, etc. I learned a lot. I didn’t have any issues, but Dr. Mak spent a nice amount of time explaining future at risk areas and how to manage them. Overall, an excellent experience. Can’t say I ever thought I would say this, but I look forward to my next appt. Just a great atmosphere, it’s clear the team values each other and has a good time together. Thank you all for a wonderful experience.

Dr. Mak is the best. No one likes going to the dentist (no offense Dr. Mak) but I never feel like I am going to the dentist when I visit. I have visited her office three times since I moved to the city and every experience is exactly like you want it to be. I love that I can email Kristal to schedule (and re-​schedule appointments). They accommodate my schedule like no one’s business. For that, I am eternally grateful. Every appointment is a quick in and out, even if its for a deep cleaning. Everyone in her office is so friendly, and so warm. You take a risk when you call and make an appointment at a new dentist office. You never know what you’re gonna get. I know, I have had those terrible experience. However, I can assure you that with Dr. Mak, it will pay off. She is so warm and generous and honest. Your teeth will thank you!

Dr Mak is the best, I can’t recommend her practice enough. Friendly, kind staff and a great dentist. She went the extra mile to fix my chipped bridge, finding a cutting edge way to infill and save me from replacing.
In other, more regular checkups she’s also great.

The good: Dr Mak seems pretty good and provides professional care
The bad: The unexpected out-​of-​pocket charges (I paid double what I was quoted)
I went in for 2 minor fillings and they gave me an estimate of about $ 200 that I’d have to pay out of pocket, based on my insurance plan. I paid it before my procedure, and thought that would be it.
I then received a bill from this office about a week later for an additional $ 200 with very little explanation. Thinking they maybe forgot that I already paid out of pocket, I called them about this. They said that this was due to the fillings being porcelain vs silver. Their office only uses porcelain (which is good), but the insurance company apparently estimated a silver filling, so this is the estimate that this dentist office passed along to me. I argued that if they only do porcelain fillings and if most insurance companies underestimate the cost, then why wouldn’t you account for this extra cost (especially if it happens all the time) before I had the procedure?
They said there was nothing that they could do, and unfortunately they’ve lost a customer.

Great dentist who cares and provides options. The staff have the utmost customer care in mind in everything they do. They have great follow up. She’s on time and does a great job too. If I could I would give more stars.

Dr. Mak is not an awful dentist, but I wouldn’t recommend her to my family and friends as a first choice for sure.
I first visited Dr. Mak for my semi-​annual cleaning. I was initially hopeful, as her receptionist was super helpful in getting me set up with any necessary information. However, the rest of the experience was sub-​par. Her hygienist was a temp and was decidedly not gentle with the cleaning, leaving me uncomfortable most of the time.
When I actually did see Dr. Mak, she was friendly enough, but I felt like she didn’t listen to anything I had to say. When I mentioned on particular problem I was having, she immediately said I was having an issue with clenching. However, when she probed deeper none of what she described rang true with what I was feeling, but she continued down the path she had already decided on with seemingly little thought to my responses. I may well have had an issue with clenching, but feeling like I was getting steamrolled into paying for procedures I didn’t need.
A couple months later I went back to get a couple of cavities filled. One of them went incredibly smoothly and was as pleasant as cavity filling gets. However, the lower one was not nearly as pleasant.
I ended up getting two injections, which is apparently pretty standard; however, neither of them was exactly where it needed to be. Dr. Mak was very good about being patient for me to get numb and after a good bit of time waiting I eventually decided to go forward with the procedure even though I knew I wasn’t fully numb.
The procedure itself was only mildly uncomfortable, which is good considering the circumstances. However, for the following few hours the whole lower side of my face was numb, including behind my ear. This sensation was both very uncomfortable and not anywhere close to where I got my cavity filled (which was sore relatively soon after leaving the office), so I can only assume that something went wrong in this case.
So yeah, nothing egregiously awful, but I imagine there are definitely better dentists around SF.

I’ve been on Unilocal for 2 years and have never written a review– until now– because I had to share how fantastic the care I received by Dr. Mak was!
I recently had a dental emergency and found Dr. Mak thanks to her Unilocal reviews. Her receptionist is incredibly nice and spoke to Dr. Mak personally to get me an appointment the next day, despite their being totally booked.
I received my treatment promptly, but what really has led me to write a review was the excellent care that followed– I was called no less than three times in the two weeks that followed by both Dr. Mak’s lovely receptionist and Dr. Mak herself to check on my condition.
I am blown away by Dr. Mak’s thoughtfulness and thorough approach to care for her patients.

Dr. Mak is an artist. I was an inherited patient from Dr. Fetterman’s old practice, and over the past few years, I have grown to fully trust Dr. Mak with my dental health. She is a perfectionist, and takes great care in her craft. She is also pretty darn funny. If you are in the Financial District or anywhere in SF for that matter, you owe it to yourself (and your teeth) to visit Dr. Mak.

Dr. Makassebi and her whole team are wonderful. They made what is normally the most uncomfortable thing in the world for me seamless and friendly. The Doc even sent me home with a piece of her own birthday cake to make me feel better!
I’d certainly recommend her (and Lyn!) to anyone in need of dental work on Blue Shield dental.

Dr. Mak is very very friendly.
Going to the dentist always involve a lot of pain, but Dr. Mak makes the visit a pleasant. The whole team in Dr. Mak’s office is excellent. They’re friendly and they make you feel as comfortable as possible.
She also makes sure that you experience as little pain as possible during the procedure and doesn’t hesitate to numb you more when she sees that you are cringing in pain. She also has an excellent referral. I ended up having to do a root canal and was referred to the nearby orthodontist. I was operated on by Dr. Machule who is also very friendly.
Lyn at the front desk is also very friendly and accomodating. They try their best to fit in your schedule and make sure that you get out in time. In my 5 – 6 visit in the office, I don’t remember having to wait. Maybe the longest is 5 minutes wait. They are very on time and they finish the job as fast as possible.
Lyn also make sure that you pay as little out of pocket as possible by sorting out everything with your insurance and she details out all the cost should you need to pay out of pocket. I had about 6 fillings, deep cleaning, temp crown, and a crown with them. (Had to pay a lot of money, but glad that the billing process wasn’t painful).
I highly recommend Dr. Mak’s office if you’re looking for a dentist in downtown SF. Convenient location, great staff, great doctor, excellent service.

Amazing, amazing, amazing!
Dr. Mak is an excellent dentist, her staff is wonderful and you leave with a great experience, you heard it, a great experience!
I had deep cleaning done and filling and she was straightforward, honest and personable. She helped with the anxiety and during the visits she will make sure you feel comfortable and she will stop if she has to.
She truly cares about her patients, she will go out of her way to accommodate all your needs and she is willing to work with you on timing and convenient days.
Dr. Mak has given me exceptional references for a root canal and ortho.
Her staff follows up after each visit to make sure you are doing well and if you need anything.
You know you are in good hands when the dentist is making sure you are always ok and anything she does she does it so she is helping you!
Everyone makes you genuinely feel like you are the most important patient they have.
Without hesitation, I would highly recommend her and her fabulous crew, Lyn and Loraine, to everyone!

Best dentist I have ever had in my entire life she is so sweet and caring but most importantly is a great listener. Due to terrible past experiences I development really bad anxiety when going to the dentist and hearing any kind of dental drill sound. Minoo instead of just continuing with the deep cleaning that same day she wanted to get to the bottom of the anxiety and we just talked and she comforted me and assured that I will feel next to nothing when she worked on me. She was nice enough to prescribe me medication for the anxiety and anesthetized me. I didnt feel a thigg. She will stop working on you if you feel uncomfortable. All in all i love minoo and would recommend her and her fabulous crew to everyone i know without hesitation!

I highly recommend Dr. Mak and her staff. Everyone is professional, friendly and they make you feel like you are the most important patient they have.
Whether it’s a regular check up or something that requires more attention, you are in good hands. If I have questions outside of an appointment, I promptly hear from Dr. Mak or her staff via email or phone.
When I needed to have some dental work quickly done before I moved out of SF, the entire office went above and beyond to coordinate this for me and made sure I got the best treatment possible from other providers. Dr. Mak personally called me regularly to give me updates on what she was doing on her side and to make sure I was getting quick responses and care from the Endodontist I used.
Not only do you get a top notch dentist, you also get an advocate for your health and that is priceless.

Dr. Mak is a great dentist. She is personable, does not keep you waiting, makes interesting small talk, asks good questions, knowledgeable, remembers your history, but all the same time, she is quite efficient. I only require routine cleanings, so her office space is small (financial district location on Kearny).
Her practice is growing; she just installed a very cool, advanced X-​ray machine — instantaneous and digital on a large computer screen. Super cool. She is doing well.
I would recommend Dr. Mak.

Wow! Best dentist ever ever ever!
1. Her routine check up includes a gum examination. I’ve never had that from any Dr. before.
2. My last Dr. said that I didn’t have to take my wisdom tooth out that’s growing kind of funny unless it’s bothering me. She discovered that it’s actually rotting and needs to be taken out. Mmmhmmm
3. These ladies are like fast little ninja cats when they work on you. I had 4 metal omalgam fillings taken out and redone with the new white ones in about an hour and a half. Fast and on point!!!
4. They’re super sweet! I had to take a picture with them.

Dr. Mak is an outstanding dentist — a true professional with genuine enthusiasm for her trade and a proactive approach. Big props to the very friendly staff, too. These guys had big shoes to fill with Dr. Fetterman leaving, and they’ve done that and more. Definitely refer your friends too, if only for the free whitening trays.

Dr Minoo did a great job with my teeth cleaning. She didn’t push any expensive extra services and just kindly recommended this and that. Also allowed me to discuss cost for these services after the cleaning so I can make a decision later on.
The dental assistant also did a great job with anything outside Dr Minoo attention. I would go back again in 6 months to get another cleaning done.

I started going to this office with Dr. Fetterman. Dr. Mak is just great. I very much dislike going to the dentist but these guys are caring and accommodating. Front desk staff are super nice, the dental hygienist is very good.

It’s rare to find a good dentist these days. Dr minoo makassebi is one of the few dentist that does great Dentistry work. Dr makassebi is very knowledgeable when it comes to making treatment plans for her patients. I have referred some friends to her practice and they have been more than satisfied with her work. She’s an excellent dentist!!! I definitely recommend her if you’re looking for one!!!
