We also use digital x-​rays, allowing for instantaneous radiographs and approximately a 70% reduction in radiation.

For those without dental insurance program, we do offer our own in-​house insurance. Please call to ask for more information.

History

Established in 1960.

The original practice was started by Dr. Nakahata in the 60’s. Upon his retirement, Dr. Hiura was fortunate enough to continue his tradition of excellence. And now upon Dr. Hiura’s retirement in 2008, Dr. Tran has been passed the torch to continue to provide the outstanding work and personal touch this office is well-​known for in the surrounding neighborhoods.

Business Owner

Dr. Tran grew up in Northern California from the town of Fairfield. He went on to graduate from UC Davis with Honors in the field of Neurobiology, Physiology & Behavior. He received his dental degree from one of the most applied to dental schools in the nation, Nova Southeastern University in Florida. He then went on to receive further post-​doctorate dental training at Maimonides Medical Center in New York City. After working in New York City and the Sacramento and Solano counties in California, he decided to settle down in San Francisco. He hopes to become a helpful and established part of this community. Dr. Tran is the best dentist I’ve ever had. For those who want a bit more detail on why he’s so awesome, keep reading.
First, Dr. Tran is a great listener. He’s very keen to hear about your concerns in great detail, and encourages you to take your time fleshing out every aspect of your particular dental situation.
Second, Dr. Tran and his staff make it a point to take your own preferences into account when crafting a treatment plan. If there’s something that you would like to address first, they will honor your wishes. In other words, your dental treatment winds up being a collaborative effort.
Third, I’ve never had a dentist more committed to getting every little single thing right. Every procedure he’s done has been masterfully completed. Even if you drop by for a simple cleaning, you’ll be surprised at how easy it is to tell Dr. Tran’s work from that of another dentist. This is what he was born to do.
Fourth, Dr. Tran only uses state of the art equipment. In addition, the office is welcoming and serene, which helps immensely when you’re having dental work done.

The absolute worst thing to hear about your teeth is that one needs to be extracted, and that’s what the Endo told me. The tooth holding my root canal cracked along with it came a cyst on my gum from the infection. I was told it cannot be saved and an implant is needed, but before this can be done my tooth needs to be extracted. I was horrified and wanted to get a second opinion and since my regular dentist intentionally overcharged my insurance leaving a minimal balance for the year, I was in search for a new dentist.
My friend recommended Dr. Tran and I’m grateful she did. For seeing him the first time and having him perform a major surgery, you bet I was even more nervous especially when dental visits were never good ones growing up. And that is exactly what I told Dr. Tran upon meeting him. He made me feel comfortable and reassured me multiple times I was in good hands, which was comforting. He went over the entire process before my surgery and during the surgery, he told me what he would do next before performing. This is what I liked, to mentally and physically prepare myself for everything that is going to happen. He was extremely gentle and always checking on me to see I was ok. It was a long procedure, but I made it through alive. Thank you Dr. Tran for making what I thought would be the most painful surgery to be painless.
I will definitely be back for my bi-​annual checkups and cleaning. I’m glad I found a dentist who I trust!

I had to get an emergency root canal about a week ago and my dentist referred me to Dr. Neema. This was my first root canal, and while I was pretty scared, I mostly wanted the pain to be gone. Everyone at Modern Family Dental was terrific — from the receptionist, to the dental assistant to the surgeon, Dr. Neema.
So, a couple things that helped to reduce my anxiety while I was there: 1.) the massage chair, 2.) the movie I got to watch during the surgery, and 3.) Dr. Neema’s sense of humor. It’s not often that you run into a funny dentist, so that was comforting. The entire procedure went smoothly and I appreciate that it was quicker than I’d expected.

I have had many dental issues in the past and have seen my fair share of dentists. When I moved back to the Bay Area, I went to see Dr. Tran and was pleasantly surprised how thorough and gentle he was throughout my initial visit (mostly since I don’t generally look forward to going to the dentist). The staff was very friendly and warm as well. Since then I have had my first wisdom tooth removed and was initially scared but it was completely pain free and over before I knew it. I have had my teeth cleaned and whitened as well and have been extremely happy with the care I’ve received each time.

I love Dr Tran. Its kind of strange to say that being a guy but its true. He’s been a great dentist and I really trust him. He came in on a Saturday and did about 2 – 3 hours of emergency dental work on me. Put a bridge in and some other stuff. I was expecting a bill close to 1000.00 or maybe more. It was somewhere between 2 – 300.
He installed my fake tooth and performed several other cosmetic procedures on me. Its looked amazing every time.
He is into his craft and a GREAT dentist.

I place my complete trust and confidence in Dr. Tran. Being his patient is like winning the lottery because I know that for too many years I made some unhappy decisions when it came to finding a dentist, but I finally hit the jackpot when I found Dr. Tran. He does super perfect, excellent work. The staff is happy and hard working. Everyone gets five stars! The location can’t be beat and there is free validated parking (yes!).

So I’ve been going here my whole life, ever since Dr. Huira was there. I recently went back after I was informed I hadn’t been there for quite some time. Apparently 3 years to be exact. Whoops… Well anyway I went back for a cleaning, where they found my first two cavities ever. Both the cleaning and the filling went fairly smoothly, I guess as smoothly as either of them can go. Dr. Tran and his team are great. Friendly, accommodating and informative. They have great technology not only for their use but also tv/​dvd players for your distraction.

Dr. Tran is a great dentist. He is very nice and personable, explains everything, and was accommodating of my schedule, and my needs. He is a perfectionist in the best way possible! I thought my crown looked pretty good, but he worked to improve it until it was spectacular! Also, I like the art and the music, and the aesthetics of the office. For a trip to the dentist it is a good vibe. Dr. Tran is hip and nice! The whole crew is very friendly.

Alright Unilocalers out there, if you read any of my reviews, you know that I ONLY review restaurants. Yes, I’m a Unilocal snob, I admit it! But I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to tell you how great my dentist is!
Really conveniently located right in Laurel Heights, Dr. Tran’s office is right above the Starbucks on the corner of Spruce and California. The staff is so friendly! Kudos to Vivian and Helena! :)
You must know that I hate nothing more than having to go to the dentist (no offense, Dr. Tran). But I do! The drilling, the suction, the smell… I mean, HELLO! It’s the dentist! BUT… having all these issues, I actually felt really comfortable and unafraid, if you will, under Dr. Tran’s care. He’s very gentle and listens to your needs. He even gives great recommendations for Orthodontic treatment if you’re interested. You get a great sense that he truly cares about his patients. I’m referring all my friends and neighbors to switch over to Dr. Tran ASAP!
