History

Established in 1998.

Started by Dave and Barnaby we wanted to bring a tattoo shop to the upper Haight with the ability to provide neighbors and visitors with quality tattoos at a fair price. Our idea was to be able to have artists capable of doing «flash» work as well as draw a custom design for your tattoo, often while you wait. Over the years we have had many talented tattoo artists and piercers work and guest spot at our shop. We continue to pursue our goal and provide our friends and neighbors with top notch tattooing and piercing in a clean and friendly environment. Thank you all for your support over the years!

Been there from the beginning in 1998. I want everyone to get the tattoo they want in a clean, friendly, professional shop. Everyone who works at Mom’s Body Shop is highly trained with years of experience. We do great tattoos and piercings that hold up to the test of time for a fair price. I try to make sure that everyone who walks through our door gets treated courteously and that we all have fun doing our work and interacting with our clients. If you have any questions or problems I will make every effort to help you with whatever you need. I had an excellent experience at Mom’s yesterday. I went in to get my cartilage pierced, and Christian ended up doing the piercing. He was incredibly kind and professional. He was also quite gentle and made it an easy experience.

I got both my nipples pierced here about three weeks ago, and while I was happy with the overall demeanor of my piercer, my left nipple is not even center. For the amount I paid about $ 140 plus tip, and for the reputation Mom’s has I expected better. Now I have to take it out and re pierce it. Which is more money and time that I don’t want to spend, but now have to because he didn’t get it right the first time. Probably won’t be going back. There are better places out there.

Horrible experience. Cashier single handedly ruined a great Friday. Not bad appearance but customer service was very sub par (garbage). Prices are outrageously high. I wanted both ears pierced and simple earnings and she wanted to charge me over 120 $. My friend said he got his pierced for 10 $ per ear down the street and the cashier sarcastically asked if they used a stapler and proceeded to call him dumb. I’m rating this 1 star because customer service and pricing is really important to me. If your looking for shallow eye candy with ridiculous and you want to be insulted, then I highly recommend you go here.

This place is amazing! I got my first tattoo yesterday and I was very nervous. All the artist there made me feel very comfortable and took the time to make sure I was getting exactly what I wanted. Ali was the girl who did my tattoo and she was great, she was patient with me and very helpful. She was honest and very informative. I’ll definitely be coming back

I got my fourth tattoo here from Eddie: a chrysanthemum on my forearm. I can honestly say it was my best tattoo experience – the folks here are awesome, all amazing artists (my friend got text from Stephen Von Staats: amazing). I am particularly impressed with Eddie Wards; he is super nice, very talented, quick and gentle. He knows what he’s doing and the place is just as clean and sanitary as you want any tattoo place to be. I will definitely be back to Mom’s!

This review is for the piercer by the name of «Dee» — not sure of the spelling.
I’ve had two piercings done by her so far, a daith and an 8g stretch (from a typical ear piercing, not sure what size) and both went amazingly well.
I personally hate the the whole «breathe in/​out» thing, and Dee skips it completely. A simple «ready» and before I can even take a breath in, the piercing itself is done! Such a quick yet smooth motion every time. Is it painless? No. Is it conveniently over before my nerves kick in? Yes!
She’s really down to earth and knowledgable of her craft, making the whole process somewhat enjoyable — which means a lot considering I don’t take pain well. I definitely recommend her for any piercings or related questions. I look forward to more piercing sessions with her in the future :)

Our family of 4 got tattooed there. The first day we stopped in the girl at the front desk talked down to my daughter when she asked a question about Roman numerals– She was a Turd. Met Paul next and liked him right away. Next day we showed up to get our tattoos. Amy was behind the front desk and was a sweetheart. Paul was our artist. treated my family great. did nice work. I ended up getting a second tattoo that day. His style for my tattoo that day was cartoon/​sketch. I have quite a few tattoos. And I was pretty impressed. 4 stars because when a father comes in with his daughter you don’t make her feel bad. Paul and Amy were 5 star. But a turd is a turd

Hubby and I got our eyebrows pierced here by Dee. Very professional, funny, etc… only issue was that we wanted tats also but it was after 10pm and they asked us to come back the next day cause they were super busy. We got the piercings but since we were only in town for business, we couldn’t come back. It’s ok though… maybe next time. I definitely like their work and will definitely use them again next time we’re in SFO!

This review is for the tattoo artist Jacek Minkowski. He is absolutely an excellent artist who is experienced, professional, passionate, and talented.
I wanted to get a half sleeve, and I came in with my ideas. We worked together to figure out the best way to put these ideas into my tattoo, and a few days later, he was ready for the appointment.
I have to say that I absolutely love his design!
The first appointment went for about 4 hours. Jack tried to make sure I felt comfortable by constantly checking in with me, talking to me, and he had me change position so that I would not feel physically fatigue.
I think his hour rate ($ 150) is too reasonable for his profession and talent. Come to him, and you won’t be disappointed!

Love this place! I came in yesterday for my first tattoo having seen my friends get their ink done here. (I was already pretty familiar with most of the artists.) I walked in, showed Paul a picture of what I roughly wanted and in 5 minutes he came back with a design that I loved. I was a little nervous but Paul guided me through it and was VERY quick. $ 80 minimum, very sanitary, and very friendly. I’ve seen them do some great work! Will come back when I rack up enough nerve/​money for the next tatt lol.

Came in, scared of getting my tattoo. I wanted something very classic American and was matched with Paul. Totally walk in
He did such a beautiful job! I didn’t have enough for the full $ 200 so we came up with a compromise and split the session so I could pay what I could afford.

As is always the case, I’m not much good with jewelry.
The ball fell out of one of the earrings (again) on my normal pierced lobes. So I knew I had to go back and get it replaced, before the earring started catching on everything (towel, hair, helmet, etc.) I assumed they were screwed on, but it’s just held in place with tension, so that explains why they pop off every once in a while (and sometimes, I’m lucky enough to find the ball but not this time.)
They were friendly and helpful, as always. They replaced the ball without any trouble, and were kind enough to replace it without charging me, even though I offered to purchase an earring. I tipped the piercer.

This is purely based on my face to face interaction with one of their employees with tattoos on his face. Everyone else I interacted with was cordial aside my wait time for my jewlery which took 5 months. That wasn’t the shop’s fault; that was due to internal issues of the jewlery company.
Anyway, I drove two hours to pick up my jewlery and the gentleman with tattoos on his face showed me my jewlery which I LOVED. I took out my septum retainer and proceeded to let him put in the new jewlery. He kept poking around which started to hurt and made my eyes water, so I asked him if I could do it, to which he responded ‚“Sure, I hate digging around in people’s noses.” Poor customer service to say the least.
That’s unprofessional to tell a client. I love the jewlery, and I was actually thinking about purchasing something else, but I think I’d rather give my money to a local shop after that interaction.

This review is for the tattoo artist Paul, specifically. I’ll cut to the chase.
Super nice guy– good sense of humor and easy to be around which is important if you’re doing a big piece that is going to take a long time.
Beautiful work. The piece I went in for was not an easy one to design or to tattoo: half sleeve in the style of Van Gogh’s «Starry Night». I stopped going to him after 2 sessions due to what I will describe below, but what he did do came out perfectly in terms of the actual art.
Bad news:
(1) For a reason that I don’t even remember, he did a sort of rough draft of the main part of the piece by tattooing it with water (I believe he called it «bloodlining»). Since having talked to several other artists, I’ve gathered that this is not a necessary or common practice. It cost me a LOT of extra time and pain. The picture included with this review was taken several days after the first session in which the only color that had been tattooed was BLUE. All the purple and red is from the rough water tattooing.
(2) About ¾ of the tattoo left me with severe scarring. The tattoo doesn’t just raise when I’m in hot water, it is raised up ALL THE TIME. I hate to leave a bad review of such a nice dude, but the reality is, the tattoo was more of an assault on my body than an adornment. I have since moved on to an artist at Cold Steel who was also a bit mortified at the scarring from the work Paul did.

I’ve been coming to this shop a lot these past few months now and I have to say this is the only place I’m ever going togo to for now on and forever and ever. The people that work here are hella nice and friendly very professional and know what they’re doing and also before you get something done they always talk you through step by step. Lately I’ve been here to stretch my ears, get my nose pierced, and today I got my very first tattoo which was done by Aquaphor. He’s really freakin good I was amazed at the ending result it was even better than what I expected it to look like honestly and I think ima keep him as my tattoo artist from now on. This place in my opinion is number one in San Francisco and on Haight in general I’m always coming back for more. Thankz guyz!
