I was lucky enough to book an appointment with the Master Hair Stylist, Sheila. She’s always so booked, its like waiting in line at a full house Mitchelin starred restaurant with no reservations. Anyways, went in on a warm afternoon and the first things I noticed was the yummy fragrance and how spotless the hardwood floor was! Now when I say fragrance, I’m not talking about the chemical scent of hair products, but the fresh scent of baked bread coming from their neighbor (extreme pizza) downstairs.
This was my first time in a hair salon, so I didn’t know what to expect. I needed a makeover for my grows-​like-​wild-​grass hairstyle. I thought having a kpop style hairdo would be cool. We went over a few ideas and finally picked one. Sheila made me feel at home with her cheerful and pompous personality. I was offered complimentary lemon water or sparkling water as well. How awesome is that?! I have a hunch she’s a foodie in secret (har har).
My wild grows like grass hair was shaped with all these different buzzer attachments. My head felt so free after the hair was meticulously shaved off. Sheila put in some low lights for my hair and thoroughly explained how I should take care of my hair after this appointment. Needless to say, I learned so much about hair fashion that day!

I’m really happy with how my new hair color and style turned out and will definitely be coming back here for the refreshing lemon water-​I mean haircut. Guys, this isn’t your usual $ 15 barber style shop, but a very professional what-​models-​get type service. I highly recommend Sheila for your hair style advice and educating. I should also mention that she is also a Cosmetology Educator, who didn’t put me to sleep about what lowlights were. xD

Amazing. Came here for the second time in a few years, and once again the service and experience absolutely delivered beyond expectation. Andriana did my hair, and she is not only a pro, but fast, thoughtful and a joy to work with. Most times when you get color you curse the experience 15 minutes in, but this started with a scalp massage and felt like a spa experience throughout. No awful fumes as the products are earth/​people friendly and the space is low key and calming. Recommend highly.

Moxi is fantastic! Every element here has been carefully considered to add up to a total experience of what a salon can be. The ambiance is stellar: décor, music, art all creating a very welcoming environment. The products are are as eco-​friendly as they come and that means they don’t reek of irritating chemicals, which means you’re not recoiling from fumes, which subtly create an overall bliss enhanced by shoulder and scalp massages! Not to mention the improved health of your hair. And most importantly the Hair: Andriana is – what were the words I used?– «a hair genius» Seriously. She knew the style I wanted and gave me an excellent cut that works with my hair type and super cute color: my hair looks even better than I imagined – and, of course, she’s delightful, too. All in all, I think I may rank this as my BHE (Best Hair Ever)!

I believe us women go to a salon for two reasons, one to look great so we feel great, and two so we can have an enjoyable experience. If you are like me, I recommend booking an appointment with Moxi. In my experience, most placed I’ve been in S.F. have not been able to give me the bright blonde look I request even when I bring in a photo. Things changed when my best friend recommended Moxi. Thanks to Moxi I finally get to feel great with the look that makes me happy. I’ve worked with Andriana and Teresa and have been happy every time.
Moxi goes the extra mile to make their customers feel great during the experience. The layout of the store with natural light shining in via floor length windows allows me to watch and take in all the fun outside on Union street while they take care of me, very strategic location. Oh, and not only that but I get to enjoy a glass of water, tea, beer or wine while I relax.
As a side bonus all their products are organic and therefore tinfoil and like materials use in the treatments are all biodegradable and recyclable. I love this!
Getting the look you want combined with the bonus of a fantastic and earth friendly experience really speaks to the value they bring to their customers.

The staff at Moxi is very friendly, down to earth and helpful.
I have been going to Leah for about 4 years for all my waxing needs. She is extremely professional, caring and accommodating to your requests and schedule. she is very good at what she does, so it is painless and quick. She uses the best line of products which accommodates my sensitive skin needs. She makes you feel very comfortable and is very thorough. She always makes sure you are happy with the finished product and takes the time to make sure it is done well. She works for herself which provides her the ability to work with you to meet your needs. I love Leah Christofferson! Definitely book your next appointment with her!

After living in San Francisco for 3 years and only getting my hair trimmed every 6+ months when visiting my aunt’s hair salon back in Boston, I decided it was time to grow up and get a real hairstyle. I was referred to Teresa by a friend in February 2012 and have been going consistenty (8 – 10 weeks) to her ever since!
Teresa does a great job of looking at your hairtype and giving suggestions on a style that will work and look best for you. At first i brought in some pictures of ideas and now I completely trust her to use her best judgement on cutting my hair and have never regretted it!
I’ve also referred Teresa to all of my girlfriends. She does a great job and is very affordable, especially by SF standards. On top of her great services, she is also the sweetest, most enthusiastic hairdresser! I always look forward to being pampered while at Moxi.

I moved to San Francisco over 2 years ago and my only regret is not finding Teresa at Moxi sooner! I went to Teresa with a strong idea of what I wanted done with my hair, picture included. I wanted to change my color from a dark brown to a caramel color.
Teresa is not only an excellent stylist but she is a great consultant. She did not just do as I asked, but rather inquired about my ultimate goal, what I was hoping to look like. After we discussed, she gently suggested another color that would offer the change I was looking for.
About an hour later I would not have been happier with the result. I should mention I always, always, always HATE my hair after I get it done. Maybe it is because previous stylist have gone along with my suggestions without understanding what I really wanted.
I’ve been going to Teresa for about a year now and suggest her to all my friends looking for a stylist! Now myself and 3 of my girlfriends go (2 brunettes and 2 blondes).

We moved recently to the Bay Area from Belgium, where I used to have my hair done by «Toni & Guy». So I thought finding a salon to measure up was going to take some time. But I came to Moxi Salon and the great service and result really impressed me.
Natasha is great and I take my appointments while she’s walking by my boutique on Union Street! :) And Teresa does an amazing job giving me a haircut.
Friendly and professional, I definitely recommend them, and for as long as I have hair growing on my head, I will keep going to Moxi!!! :) :)

I had my first spray tan with Natasha a few weeks ago. She was very sweet and helpful. She explained the whole process and went over all the directions to keep my tan looking fabulous.
The tan was perfect! Very natural looking and lasted over 1 week. (Maybe even 10 days?) It looked like I just got back from Mexico, not orange Oompa Loompa or streaks anywhere!
The salon is very cute and I will definitely be back soon for another spray tan! I also liked the follow up phone call by Natasha the next day and directions to take home. Overall, I was very impressed with the service here!
And trust me, i’m an elite :)

A few months back, I was on a serious mission to find organic, non-​toxic hair color that actually works. This was no easy task. I researched many different salons across San Francisco and Marin, and I finally found Andriana at Moxi. Andriana uses only the finest and purest products available in her salon. She uses an organic enzyme-​based color system that works as well or better than traditional hair color. I was skeptical in believing that she could match my dark roots to my very light blonde ends. Not only did she match my color, my hair looked brighter and healthier than ever before. If you are looking for beautiful, organic, worry-​free hair color, then this place is as good as it gets. More salons should follow Moxi’s lead in providing safe and organic professional hair care with fabulous results!

Moxi Salon and owner Andriana are a beautiful part of Union St. I have had the pleasure of working along side of Andriana’s beautiful bridal hair artistry skills and have seen every single woman leave the salon in awe. She has so much love for her art which you feel as soon as you walk into her beautiful salon.
She also carries some beautiful and very rare hair products!

I LOVE coming to Moxi! I made an appointment here after a failed attempt to get a haircut in a really terrible place in Chesnut St; what a difference! When I arrived I was greeted by the friendliest staff in the nicest environment (not the classic noise of hairdriers and gossip). I was offered tea/​sparkling water/wine…“a glass of wine would be perfect, thank you”!
After planning how my hair was going to be styled Andriana gave me a delicious scalp massaged that ended with a hair wash with organic products. Needless to say, my hair has never looked more healthy and stylish!
I’ve been back for about a year since and I’m not planning to go to anyone else.
In my last appointment my hair was very long and I decided to have it short, I didn’t think about it but Andriana offered me to donate my hair to kids with cancer!
So overall they have it all: they do beautiful haircuts, they have great service and last but not least they are environmentally and socially responsible. What else could you ask for?

As a man, and like most people, I like a hair style that looks good and is easy to take care of, Andriana does a fantastic job every time.
I’ve been to several other salons in the area and have found Moxi to meet all my needs; the salon is beautiful, the products are green, the prices are great and I never have to wait.
I have been coming here for over a year, and I have no plans to change.

I had a bloomspot voucher for services at Moxi and after reading raving reviews about their hair services thought I’d get a hair cut with them.
Elizabeth was my stylist and she was AWESOME!
She just had a very calm warm personality and made me instantly at ease.
I love my hair cut — I always had issues with people cutting my fringe the wrong way but she cut it beautifully. I wanted a side sweeping fringe and while it looks good, I think she cut it so well I think I may not mind having it trimmed slightly to make it into a front bang (I had a traumatic experience with a bad front bang when I was young so vowed never ever to get them again but I think I can with the cut Elizabet gave me).
At $ 100+ for a haircut it’s not a place for everyone (and without my voucher I’m not sure I would have tried Moxi).
If you are willing to give them a try though, you won’t be disappointed!

I have tried a lot of salons in the city, and this hands-​down my favorite — a one of a kind and wonderful place.
Andriana, the owner, has created a place true to her values from the flooring, paint, artists on her walls, and the highest quality natural products that she uses. I feel cozy, welcome and at home, and like a queen at the same time.
I entrust her with my hair completely — she really listens to my needs and creates an elegant cut that is exactly what I want. Finally! She works magic with my dry and curly locks, and I have seen hair types of all kinds walk in and out of the salon looking beautiful.
Elizabeth did my color with an entirely non-​toxic organic hair color line that they discovered from Britain. The color is luxurious and lasting, and Elizabeth is one of the sweetest people I have met. She took care to listen to my needs and hand-​mixed a color perfect for me.
Customer service is always kind and warm. Oh, one more thing, their new hair product line — Rahua, made entirely of Amazonian plant extracts — is phenomenal for my hair. Well worth the cost, and lasting.

Andriana is a star! She made me and all of my bridesmaids look like we’d walked out of a magazine for my wedding day and I couldn’t have been happier!
With the help of a few idea photos and vague descriptions from each of us, she completely turned us around. She knew exactly what we wanted and is a genius with hair. The salon is in a fantastic location, has a chilled vibe with great art… and plays fantastic music to boot.

This is review is long over due! My office mate had been raving about Andriana and Moxi for months, but I was hesitant to try a new place/​shell out $ 100 for a haircut. However, I took it as fate when BloomSpot offered a discount on services, bought the certificate and made an appointment.
I am so glad I did. From the moment I walked in, I felt completely taken care of. I helped myself to a miniature gourmet chocolate as I slipped into a smock in the cute changing room, then was given a tour of the salon by the receptionist and offered tea, water, or wine. Since it was Friday and around happy hour time, I opted for a glass of white to ease into my weekend. Andriana, the owner, introduced herself and was very warm and chatty as I explained what I wanted with my hair — just a trim with some serious clean up work around my sideswept bangs which had turned themselves into lopsided layers.
The service itself started with a heavenly oil massage on my dry hair, then I went into the back to relaxing dimmed sink area for a shampoo and condition. Then Andriana got to work on cleaning up my shaggy hair. I had had a bad hair cut back in December from another salon and thus waited almost 5 months to grow it out. Still Adriana didn’t make me feel bad for having split ends, and complemented me on my color. We had plenty to chat about and the appointment flew by.
After the cut, she blew my hair out to perfection and I was ready for my Friday night. The best part is she didn’t go too short anywhere — she listened to exactly what I asked for. The best best part is at has been over two months, and my cut has held up perfectly. Ever since my trip to Moxi my styling time has been seriously reduced each morning, and I don’t feel the need to rush back in for a clean up appointment.
Five stars for ambience, five stars for service, five stars for the results. Prices are steep, but hey its San Francisco. Moxi is worth it.

Andriana ROCKS MY WORLD! After years of getting free haircuts from my sister, it was so hard for me to jump back in and fork over the dough for a high end hair cut, but I must admit, I trust Andriana with my life. She does an amazing job and it is such a pleasure to walk into the studio and be greeted by their welcoming and friendly staff (Maurene).
I also got a facial recently there! I can’t remember the name of the person who did it, but she was wonderful…

I never actually looked forward to having my hair cut before I started going to Moxi. The atmosphere is down to earth and relaxed, and the staff make it feel like I’m visiting friends every time I come.
Going to a salon can sometimes be a bit more than I’m looking for, but I can’t go to a barber because, for whatever reason, I come out looking 16 years old with a cheap haircut. I’ve bounced around to different salons in SF and usually feel a little out of place within the air of designer product and «I paid more than you for my hair to look this good» attitudes. It’s not really my thing, but SuperCuts just doesn’t cut it. Moxi provides more than any other salon I’ve been to without the attitude.
I found Moxi because I had moved offices and they are located just a few blocks away. But the deciding factor was that more than one dude had submitted a good Unilocal review; there’s plenty of salons with good reviews from girls, but not so many with reviews from guys.
I made an appointment for the same day and walked down to get my mop cleaned up. The stylist I was scheduled with is My Loan. At first I thought the place would be a little too «alternative» for me because the first thing that she did was sit me down and have me smell some aromatic oil. But after the shoulder massage, hot face wrap and a cold beer, I am a believer. Some of the other places I’ve been to tried to do the relaxation thing, but with a rushed and chaotic setting it always seemed out of place, it works at Moxi.
My Loan is good at cutting men’s hair. She doesn’t mind that I’m a bit particular, and actually prefers to take the time to get it right. Every time I go she remembers what we did prior and she tweaks things to make it exactly what I want; and when I don’t know what I want she is happy to come up with something that works. Can’t really ask for better than that.

Once in 4^th grade, my mom took me for a haircut where they feathered my bangs. I took one look in the mirror, wept, and have never gone for a professional haircut since.
So when I decided last month to pay a lot of money to let someone else take complete creative control over my hair, well… this was no small thing!
I called Moxi, I had a question about something on their website. The girl who answered the phone was incredibly sweet and friendly. I instantly felt comfortable and was already ready to throw my money at them! She told me I could come by for a free consultation, and if I wanted after, I could have my haircut. If not, no worries. I had called I believe on a Monday, and was able to get an appointment that upcoming Friday.
I walked in, hair looking a mess. I was greeted by the girl at the front (sorry i forgot everyones names!) who gave me a tour of the salon… She got me a green tea, and I sat down with My Loan. I showed her some pics on my iPhone of what I had in mind, and she listened to what I wanted as well as offered her professional advice… Which is good, because I have no idea what I’m doing!
I felt completely at ease with her, and I went for it… I’ve been straightening my hair for 5 years and told her I’m ready to embrace my stupid curls…
Long story short, I love what she did! It’s different than what I usually do, it’s REALLY easy to do in a rush, and she has completely restored my faith in getting my hair cut… She had used some Davines product which smells awesome and works great!
I’ve been getting lots of compliments on it too, so always a plus!
Best part is, I never felt like a moron for not knowing about anything hair related… I mean, I was a tomboy, I don’t know what a diffuser is! I felt totally comfortable asking the dumb questions with the staff.
I look forward to returning here in the future… Everyone on staff is amazing, the salon is pretty hip, and I like that they feature different artists work on the walls. Thanks, Moxi! :)
