I love this place. I know I’ll always find a scarf that I like. The lady who works there is so kind also.

I suggest«The Gypsy Kings» as a back beat for this review. Your grassroots girl was in San Francisco for the civil liberties rally to celebrate with fellow activists on July 30th, 2010. Picket signs are everywhere where English and Spanish speaking friends have gathered in the Mission district to lock hands, sing songs and make plans together. This rally, myself and the wonderful store that I am about to discover have so much in common — grassroots(a hands-on philosophy) With songs ringing in my ears, tears still in my eyes, I spy a vision, my beloved miracle tonic is on the horizon. I look to the sky and wink at someone with gratitude;-) I really don’t deserve such good fortune but here I stand in front of a yellow, red and blue flag centered on a blue awning. On a tiny side street with the words that so appropriately belong near Ecuador’s flag: «Native Hand by Hand» But wait, it gets even better. Do you believe in fate? In destiny? I do. Because, when I walk into the store, I recognize the artisan goods immediately. *chills* This is too good to be true. Frantically, I’m trying on blouses and jewelry, and then I see the owner. Will she be frightened if I grab her and hug her? Long black hair, gold-beaded necklaces, intricate embroidered blouse — the uniform of the indigenous of Ecuador. Her trademark features are unmistakable. She is a beautiful sight for my sore eyes to see. I am a descendant of Ecuadorian indigenous from northern Ecuador. The mother and daughter who run this store are from Otavalo, a beautiful artisan town located two hours north of Quito, Ecuador. It is home to the most famous market in South America. It is a town of magic, textiles and masterpieces. I could tell you about my travels to Otavalo but I would only make you jealous. Here is a link about Otavalo to get you excited about this shop:
What do I buy? A turquoise embroidered blouse, a beautiful white beaded necklace and an indigenous hat that is a trademark of Ecuador. We spoke of Ecuadorian festivals while the beautiful Mother(the artist) kept her hands busy with her exquisite craft of jewelry-making. Handmade(Hecho a mano). What is more beautiful? Banana Republic merchandise? Designer things? You will NEVER cherish those possessions like the ones made by hand. Like the ones made by this family. These are the things worth handing down to our future daughters with love. The prices are VERY affordable! You can’t even get deals like these in Otavalo! I am envious of you who live in the neighborhood. You should be cleaning out this gem of a store of all of their merchandise(jewelry, bags, scarves, shawls and gleaming shelves of artisan masterpieces) on a regular basis. Dear Native Hand By Hand, You can’t imagine how much I will treasure the things that I have purchased from you. The pictures submitted for your business from flight suit are from me!(Thanks Jedi) Best of luck to all of you who cherish handmade treasures for finding your way here. Native Hand By Hand, defining beautiful.

Nice place for South American native/indigenous arts and crafts. Clothes, jewelry, hats, bags. Just off Mission Street.
