History

Established in 2009.

Like most passionate photographers, I have been making photographic images pretty much since I could hold a camera. Entering the professional photography world in 2009, I opened a small studio while working a full time career in sustainability, the environment and green building. In January 2011 I made the decision to seize the opportunity to go into photography full time, and the rest is history!

In this service industry, clients are our backbone, and I’ve enjoyed developing trusting relationships with the many individuals, families, business professionals, musicians and performers I have photographed over the years.

Throughout my life as a photographer, I’ve grown to embrace having a specialty in not specializing and welcome your creative inquiries for all of your photographic needs.

What’s in a name?

My first name is Niall, it’s the Gaelic Irish version and is pronounced Neil, Neill, Neal, Niel, or any other form that isn’t Nile, Née-​all, or Nuhwhattheheckisthat. It made me self conscious as a child having a name no one could pronounce correctly on the first try — to this day it’s probably only happened a number of times I could count on one hand — but today I embrace it as I am one of the original Niall’s and the only Niall David Cytryn on planet Earth.

I have been photographing since I could hold a camera. I have never put it down, and I never plan to.

I have resided in the American states of NY, VT, MD, DC, SC, CA, and have been known to have lived on the road here and abroad with no succinct address for multiple months at a time.

San Francisco is the first home I have felt I’ve ever had away from my parent’s house in New York. I have been happy here from day 1.

I look forward to seeing you through the lens!

Our family had a blast during our photo session and Niall is just amazing! He’s not only talented with the camera, but he’s warm and fun! He keeps thing moving during the shoot and so professional and responsive afterwards. We highly recommend him!

My wife and I was so impressed with Niall’s patience when our three years old refused to take pictures during our session. What’s more amazing? We thought there would be limited photos to choose from but he was able to capture some great moments! We will definitely find Niall again for our next SF from Hong Kong.

What a great experience as someone who is really uncomfortable in front of a camera.
Well at least before my session with Niall.
So Professional yet really natural and easy to talk to, he put me right at ease and his assistant was our photo model for the action shots. I would recommend Niall to my most scrutinizing friend or client… I know they will be beyond pleased.
Matter of fact it’s high time for a new set of shots.

One word… AWESOME! We had an extended family shoot and Niall was incredibly patient (especially with 2.5 yr old twins) and accommodated all the family and various shoots. He has an incredible eye with incorporating some amazing landscape and our family. Well done! Couldn’t recommend him enough and can’t wait for our next family shoot :)

We had a fantastic experience with Niall, shooting family portraits in the city with our 2 and 4 year old daughters. Perhaps I should rephrase that; my daughters were less than fantastic that day, certainly not their usual charming selves. In fact, they were difficult and cranky, probably even seemed a bit spoiled. This rubbed off on my husband and I, and we also became cranky and a bit stressed.
Through it all, Niall and his assistant were just rolling with it, shooting quietly or calmly suggesting groupings and backgrounds. The location Niall suggested was amazing, our wardrobes were just right, but my husband and I were so upset by the end, absolutely positive that the entire shoot was a waste. We made a two night trip of it in the city, and Niall even bent over backwards to schedule a next day selection session in his studio. Imagine our surprise the next morning to see a perfectly selected set of images, which I know would have taken hours to review overnight. We ended up with with a lot of photos we loved. More importantly, Niall was able to skillfully edit four images together to get a single perfect family portrait. His photography is beautiful and we have some iconic and classic family portraits to show for it. I believe they will stand the test of time.
We truly loved our experience working with Niall; from the flexibility in scheduling, the flawless delivery of our images and portraits, to his relaxed and professional demeanor at our crazy difficult shoot. He’s a really great guy and we highly recommend him. Hopefully he’ll take us back this year, perhaps our kids will behave better in Family Portraits 2.0, at least the adults will.

Love Niall! We hired him to photograph our baby’s first birthday party this past weekend. He was SO easy to deal with, was super nice and most importantly, took great pictures. I was obsessed with the baby’s cake smash session and capturing the details of the day. Niall captured it all! He is prompt in his responses, and had our photo gallery online within 3 days. He is now working on an album for me. I have never worked with a photographer who was so quick with his turn around time. We will definitely be using Niall again for family photos, holiday photos, and birthday parties!

We heard about Niall through our diaper service and after reading his reviews on Unilocal,I decided to give him a call about our family photo shoot. My husband and I have a nine-​month-​old son and we wanted to capture the baby stage with something other than iPhone photos. Niall was polite, enthusiastic and helpful and I was confident about taking the leap. The shoot went better than we could have expected. He was professional yet laid back and we felt at ease despite not being big fans of having our picture taken. It just felt like we were having a fun day in the park. After the great shoot, we were excited to see the photos and had high hopes. I can honestly say that we were blown away by how good they were. Despite the fact that it was a big purchase for us we walked away with twice as many photos as planned. We just couldn’t choose enough shots to cut. The photo quality was amazing but what we really loved was how natural the shots were. We looked like ourselves (but glossier) and Niall captured all of the sweet and silly expressions our son makes. It was the polar opposite of a stiff studio shoot. A friend told me that these are the best family photos she has ever seen and while I may be biased, I completely agree. In addition to digital files we chose to get an acrylic piece featuring our son and a metal print with the three of us being goofy. The pieces are gorgeous and I love that Niall didn’t steer us away from blowing up our silly shot. It’s much more fun to look at than a portrait. No matter what you are looking for, I highly recommend using Niall for your photo shoot. His talent is obvious and the quality of his photos is incredible and he seems truly committed to delivering an experience that works for his clients. Professional photos aren’t cheap but I can definitely see us saving up for a repeat session. Call him – you won’t be disappointed!

Niall photographs my interior design projects. Not only is Niall very professional, he is so fun to work with. I love that he can collaborate to get the best images. He knows just how to get the shot I’m looking for.
Before the shoot, he will talk through how many shots I’m trying to get out of a project, what are the angles and features that are important to me, and the lighting issues. The end result always impresses me.
When it came to helping him design his new photo studio workspace, it was equally fun, easy and collaborative! I highly recommend Niall for families as well as professional photography needs.

We couldn’t be happier! From my first contact with Niall through receiving our prints, the experience of working with him has been terrific. We did a casual family photo shoot at Chrissy FIeld with the GG Bridge and the city as backdrop — a very special place for our family (mom, dad, 8yo and 1yo). He was so skilled and flexible as the challenges of the weather (full sun) and location (busy jogging path) presented themselves. We all felt immediately and totally at ease and the photos truly show who we ARE, not just how we looked that day. That’s such a gift!
I’d also like to note that the photo review session was a lot of fun and very low/​no pressure. He offers unique print formats (we are CRAZY about the metal prints we ordered) and really works with you to find the right style for your home. We have had our metal prints for two days and we are already ordering more :)
We really can’t recommend him highly enough — we are looking forward to working with him again next year!

We did a family photo shoot with Niall in GG Park Botanical Gardens with our 4 year old and 9 month old baby. Niall was terrific to work with and took beautiful photographs — I’m in love with the pictures! Personally, I’m not a fan of posed studio family shots. I really wanted outdoor shots with the sun filtering through the trees in the background and all of us in candid moments — exactly the kind of shots Niall captured. He was great with the kids and able to capture them at relaxed moments (not easy to do at that age) and to figure out great settings for the pictures as we walked around the park. And he’s easy to work with and very professional. Highly recommend!

Niall did a newborn photo shoot for us and he was awesome! He’s a really easy going guy so we felt really comfortable with him in our home photographing our baby and us. He gave great instruction too so it put us at ease knowing he was aware of what angles looked good for our faces, etc. And the photos turned out awesome! We got some regular prints, but he also recommended the metal prints which look really cool and modern and we couldn’t be happier with them. Definitely would love to do a 6 month or 1 year baby shoot with him too.

NIall did a wonderful job on our family’s holiday photos. He was very professional and prompt, which is important because I’ve been surprised by how many other photographers show up late or take a very long time to follow up.
More importantly, he was very fun to work with and very friendly. This is great for photos with small children who can be unruly and Niall made the photo session very fun.
Last, but not least, he was great in the end in helping us put together a package within our budget and even following up on doing a last minute touch up after we already placed our order. I highly recommend him.

Niall David is an incredibly talented photographer. I recently had the pleasure of working with Niall on a commercial photo shoot for my company, EarthBaby. It was so much fun working with him and the pictures turned out amazing! It was my first time planning a large photo shoot with several models. He helped me think through and plan all the details to ensure it went as smoothly as possible.
Our shoot involved 20+ babies and toddlers. He was great at interacting with the parents and kids. His laid back, fun demeanor made everyone feel immediately comfortable and relaxed. In result his photos feel natural, not staged or posed.
Overall Niall rocks! He is great to work with and produces amazing photos. I would highly recommend Niall to any family or individual looking to have professional photos taken.

Niall’s work is truly stunning. Our photo shoot … with 19 adults, 2 children and 2 dogs … was so quick and painless. He is a natural … he made his job look easy and fun! I don’t know how he did such magical editing … we all looked great! His pictures truly captured our personalities! I especially loved the lighting and illuminating effects. He seemed to know just the right time to work with the sun filtering through trees vs. the setting of the sun. The backgrounds he chose brought out the beauty and essence of our treasured land at our cabin in Texas! We are so blessed to have family pictures that will last a lifetime! Had a portrait session with Niall, who helped me feel relaxed while achieving what I had requested. He was able to provide portraits incorporating a grand piano and also some outdoor shots in Stern Grove. A very professional service but it never felt stuffy or unaccessible. Instead he was very approachable, relaxed, friendly and funny. He had great communication throughout and was able to help out with venue/​clothing ideas. I met with him a week later in his studio to view the photos and select my choices and was able to download the photos later that evening. All pictures turned out great, not staged or posed but instead had a natural vibe that captured me in exactly the way I had asked for. I would not hesitate to recommend him and his photography.

Booked a second session with Niall, photographer extraordinaire, in November! It has been a little over a year since we had our pictures last taken, and it was time to commemorate our youngest turning 1. I couldn’t think of anyone else better to capture our family moments than Niall David. The second time working with Niall was just as good as the first, if not, even better. He chose to take our pictures in the Presidio, and it was a indeed a very unique spot. As always, Niall was very professional and very patient with our overly rambunctious boys. But at the same time, he was very warm and friendly. The amazing thing was our 2 older boys totally remembered Niall and were very comfortable around him.
We followed up the session in the following 2 weeks in his photography studio where he presented our pictures in a slid show with music. Again, it was presented professionally and it was personalized. He had us at the first photograph and from that moment it was difficult which pictures to choose. Once we picked our photos, I later had to make some changes which Niall was more than willing to accommodate. And 4 days later, we received our wonderful family portraits.
Niall is a very talented photographer with an awesome attitude and vision. Have always loved his style and perspective. Can’t go wrong working with Niall!

Niall is a really talented photographer and such a nice guy!
We had a family photo shoot with Niall a couple months ago and it was a great experience. He was very receptive to our initial vision for the shoot and once there he had some great suggestions that made it even better.
Niall’s got a great vibe, he’s super relaxed and calming but very professional. He captured a ton of amazing shots, which was quite a feat considering our toddler was not in the most cooperative mood that day. We were very pleased with the results, and he got the photos back to us super quick which is another huge plus. I highly recommend him!
