Noc Noc

I really enjoy coming to this place. It has a cool vibe with its dimmed lighting and cave light décor. It’s a small place so it tends to get a bit crowded on weekends. But I personally don’t mind because the crowd is a friendly one and I usually end up meeting interesting people and making new friends!

What weird bidness is this place? Did I enter some sort of inter-​dimensional planetary portal? Am I in Mos Eisley Cantina? Nope, it’s Noc Noc, and I can’t really describe this place but it’s pretty trippy. There’s fireplaces, little alcoves, and high backed chairs that make you feel like you’re some kind of alien royalty. We checked in on a Friday night and it was pretty quiet. I imagine Toronado was getting all the attention. They’ve got a list of rotating beers on draft and a happy hour, which I’ve come to appreciate in SF as they are a dying breed. Get this– I was able to get 2 beers under $ 12! Unheard of (unless you want PBR)! Bartender was chill and answered our nerdy beer questions. Oh also, they don’t have food but encourage you to BYO, which was supes cool of them. Thanks dudes, we’ll return!

This place is really cool, they took the time and put the effort into making the inside look real cool. They only have beer and wine so don’t go looking for mixed drinks. They have a dark atmosphere and good music. If your looking for some privacy then check this place out. I would recommend you check it out if your in the area!

From Chicago coming to a smaller city meant it would be easy for find neighborhood bars.
I’m a huge fan of dive bars and this one is it! They have a selection of beers on draft, not sure about the rest of the liquor.
It’s very dark and intimate, there’s a fireplace but mind you, there is a lot of art and sculptures around the bar.
I would consider this more of stepping into a futurist dungeon. I would definitely come back for a drink but pass if you’re coming here for happy hour or your first bar. This bar is something you have to fall into.

Nice beer place. Bartenders are attentive. I don’t like how a lot of the people who attend smoke weed right outside. You get a second hand high if you’re not careful.

Considering how close I live to this place, it ms kinda ridiculous that tonight was my first time in!

Love this place… the drinks and atmosphere is great… I’ve been here few times and always had a blast. The owner is great and an excellent customer service.

I normally love this bar and go weekly, but I had a terrible experience with the rudest bartender I’ve ever encountered. I ordered a beer and did not have enough cash for tip, but knew I could tip her on the next round when my friend showed up. She told my friend to bring me over to the bar and proceeded to embarrass me and single me out for not tipping, being extremely condescending and absolutely rude and inappropriate, saying she was giving me advice from an «older girl to a younger one.» I would love to go back to Noc Noc but I’m never going back on a Thursday when this bartender is around. I was already annoyed to begin with because the service was terrible and she was not even behind the bar, she was off at the tables chatting with friends and her daughter who she brought along.

Noc Noc prides itself in a really dark and cave like ambiance. I came here with friends on a Tuesday night, so it was pretty empty, so we were able to find a seat. The décor inside is quite interesting with part of it looking like cave paintings to another «industrial» part of the bar, then the seats having tall backs. It was quite an interesting bar experience, but I do appreciate how this bar was not excessively loud, so people can have conversations.
We ended up getting a cider/​wheat beer combination. I wish I knew the name, but it was actually pretty good since I am not a huge cider fan. I found myself finishing my drink faster than I expected!
What a find in Lower Haight!

Such a fun bar! I can’t really describe to you what the décor is like inside except for to me it looks like a plan cashed into a cave and there are cave drawings and tribal things all over the walls in blacklight glow paint! How cool?!
The staff here are pretty nice and so are the drink prices. Not too shabby for a hip place like this.
The crowd itself it nice and grungy and hipster. Everyone that I have ever encountered here are pretty nice. But I can’t say much for the people actually on the street. There are a few crazies out there.
And cleanliness? Well, it’s a bar. It’s as clean as a grungy bar is going to get.

Could never imagine coming to this place during the day, but damn it’s cool at night. It’s a cozy space and it feels like you’ve walked into someones psychedelic batcave trip. Parts of the wall seem to have been lifted from the Agrocrag and the entire concept is sort of like something from Ah! Real Monsters with black lights.
Great beer selection, staff was fantastic, drinks are sort of pricey though, hence the 4 stars. Worth a visit if you’re looking for a change of pace or want to expose a visitor to a «cool SF bar.»

Awesome psychedelic bar which feels very Flintstones meets Tim Burton. Dark and divey without being scummy.
Good drink choices, friendly bartender, welcoming atmosphere but you can also do your own thing. Side room is dim and cozy, and would probably be a great spot to bring a first-​date. It was one of the highlights of our recent trip to San Fran– definitely check it out if you want a funky but chill place to grab some drinks.

Noc Noc is kind of the perfect bar to black out at.

I feel like it’s a judgement-​free zone? Or maybe I just happen to end up there really drunk and often? I asked the bartender what I wanted to drink, visibly wasted the other weekend, and he recommended a bottle of sake. So I bought a bottle of sake… and blacked out. Thanks, Noc Noc!
Everything here is super cheap and the inside feels like someone made a dark bar out of your childhood tree house or Pee Wee’s Playhouse. There are fun, unique nooks to sit at, drinks are super cheap and they take cards.
There really isn’t a particular crowd it attracts either. Noc Noc is kind of for everyone.

Noc Noc is probably my very favorite spot in the Lower Haight.
The décor is refreshingly wacky and «doing its own thing,» dark without feeling unwelcoming. There are a number of little sitting areas where you can fit 2 – 8 people comfortably, some with windows facing the street for good people-​watching in the funky neighborhood.
The Tamale Lady stops here regularly, and you may also bring in food from nearby restaurants (Rosamunde and Wing Wings are my favorites).
Noc Noc doesn’t usually get too crowded, and it is emminently welcoming of dogs. The bartenders are friendly and the bar accepts credit cards.
On a chilly SF evening, you can get hot sake here, and warm yourself up right quick.
Keep an eye out for the Hobgoblin beer, a tasty draught imported from England, which they get from time to time (though I haven’t seen it recently).
I found an Alpine IPA there a couple weeks ago that was delicious, hopefully we will see more Alpines here now that Alpine has been acquired by Green Flash. (San Diego makes better beer than the Bay Area :()
The only thing I wish for Noc Noc is that they would fix the little TV in the ceiling on the way to the bathroom. When it used to work it was a cool black & white delayed closed-​circuit that brightened up the space a bit and added some intrigue.

A friend recommended we go to Noc Noc when we were in the area. I asked him what to expect. His response:
«Have you ever seen the movie Beetlejuice?»
That pretty much sums it up. Lots of interesting colors and architecture to be had here. In fact, it reminds me a lot of The Alley over in Oakland. There’s lots of good brews on the menu too — Jolly Roger, Drake’s IPA, Stella, all that fun stuff.
It’s pretty solid, but I didn’t really see too many people hanging out for a long period of time. Seems more like a come ‘n go type of place.

Friendly bartenders. Cozy, not too loud at happy hour with good prices. Allows dogs. If you’re lucky enough to get the front corner booth, the window opens.
Great alternative to Tornanado.

The place feels different with cold sake. Get it.
Update: I’m worried because I find myself almost every day here. So I’m either an alcoholic or a fan. Anyway, if you happen to come here and you find a melancholic guy drinking sake in a brown fake leather jacket, come say hi. Love this place.

Oldest bar in Lower Haight, it’s got a pretty divey atmosphere as expected. The fact that they have a table made out of a former milk crate should clue you in on what to expect, and the design on the walls. I don’t even?
Happy hour is till 7pm and the cheapest beers start at $ 3. I was surprised to see Stone’s RuinTen on tap here, but it kind of clues you in on their fairly progressive craft beer selection. During SF Beer week Noc Noc also plays hosts to a lot of tap takeovers so a nod to the bar owner.
Not usually my first destination for catching beer in the neighborhood but it’s fun to show people around the diversity in bars in Lower Haight. The bartenders also aren’t grumpy & they take credit cards unlike the popular craft beer bar two stores down.

A bit trippy and sort of eclectic in décor like a trip down the rabbit hole on acid, Noc Noc is an off kilter alternative to Toronado next door. It looks really dark in there all day and it’s easy to lose track time when you’re inside. Our hero has been there twice now and has enjoyed the laid back ambiance of the bar. There’s quite a variety of seating, it’s perfect for catching up with old friends or pretending you’re on drugs (when really you’ve just been drinking).
PROS:
— It’s got a really cool ambiance and it’s definitely a nice place to hang out with a good noise level for conversation.
CONS:
— Slightly less of a selection of beers compared to Toronado and sometimes a bit pricier.
— Seating might be awkward for parties of more than 4 people.

It was a dark and stormy night.
OK, it was a balmy (65 degrees) January day on Haight Street and we wanted to check out the local watering holes. Our 21-​year old son pointed us at Noc Noc, a curious, dark cave of a bar on a noteworthy block (barwise) in the lower Haight.
Were the strings of lights leftover from Christmas? or was it just part of the oddball décor. We warmed our hands by the fake fireplace, took a few looks around the dimly lit and weirdly decorated intereior, and grabbed seats at the bar.
Seventeen draft taps stared us down, with a menu offering beer drinks like Black Racer (a Guinness/​Racer 5 black & tan) and Uncle Pat (Guinness & cider). Andrea, our cheery bartender-​ette was both fun and entertaining! The ample 16-​oz pours were $ 1 off during HH (until 7 pm daily).
Noc Noc is another one of the reasons to check out the lower Haight! Its bars and restaurants are as good or better as in the more touristy Haight, and you’ll find more locals and less traffic.
Plus, at $ 15, you can pick up a souvenir T shirt that will let all your friends know you visited hippieville Haight St!
