On Mars Salon

Brandi is my stylelist, love her! She colored/​cut for my wedding, it was exactly what I wanted, classic and timeless. I just went back last week for another color/​cut, wanted to go shorter she gave me a long A framed bob, absolutley love!
On Mars is a warm friendly place and dog friendly. My dog Savannah enjoys spending time there.

Brandi gave me an amazing ombré yesterday.
She clearly explained to me what would work for my hair, how she was going to do it, and worked very quickly. She was great to talk to and very down to earth, and my hair turned out amazing! I am so happy with the results and I really would recommend Brandi as your hair stylist, especially if you’re getting an ombré.

I walked in after hours to get a spontaneous hair cut and Michelle was nice enough to accommodate me. She did exactly what I wanted, but even better than the picture I showed her. I feel extremely lucky to have stumbled upon this salon. Thanks Michelle, you rock!

I’ve been coming to On Mars for YEARS and am always in the best mood post-​haircut. Rachel is the best of the best! She’s edgy, fun, and really listens to what I want and works my hair so well. I can’t imagine going to anyone else. Book her in advance, you won’t be disappointed!

I’ve been letting my hair grow out for a while and I never know how to cut it or style it. My preference has always been short. I’ve been getting my haircut by Michelle Vesely and she always knows what makes me look my best. I always leave like a new man.

I was visiting SF and discovered this little gem of a salon. Jenene was awesome! She was easy to talk to and understood what I wanted done. My hair came out even better than I hoped it would. So happy! I definitely will be back!

I had such an awesome experience with Rachel! She’s super fun, and really took my hair to the next level. I came in wanting to take the rainbow out of my hair, which is super hard to accomplish. We managed to do it, keeping it shiny and healthy. I love the turn out! She’s my main hair lady now. Woop woop

I’ve been going to Rachel Semprini for almost 4 years now, and man, is she awesome… at… everything! We’ve done blonde, we’ve done bleach-​blonde, we’ve done red, we’ve done brown, we’ve done short, we’ve done long… and I trust her with it all. It took me a particularly long time to decide to spring for pixie after a lifetime of long hair, and she took it on with a ease and style, making me feel so happy and confident during the whole process.
She’s also the kind of hair stylist you just like to hang out with for the couple hours you are in her chair. She’s funny, fun, and interesting, all while doing a kick-​ass job. I also appreciate her honesty and willingness to make last minute changes. If you think something’s off, she’s more than happy to make adjustments and is honest about what will work and what won’t. Rachel FTW!

Michelle saved my hair. I tried for the life of me to remove a horrible color job I had and ended up ruining my hair, one visit with her had my hair soft and a normal color again. She is the only person I will ever let touch my hair now. The whole staff seemed really nice too, and their shop dog is the cutest thing ever! I highly recommend this place for everything.

I just woke up today and decided I needed a big change. I called and got an appt with Summer for this afternoon. She chopped off 12 inches of my hair and paid such amazing attention to detail. Her appreciation for vintage styles and her adorable snow white voice were exactly what I needed to baby me through the process. It’s rare to meet another princess in person!

I have been going to Michelle V since I was 21 and I’m now 28. I’ve gone to other hair stylists but none of them top Michelle. She is the most talented hair artist, yes… ARTIST… I have ever come across. I just went in to see her at On Mars a few weeks ago and she had a certificate up in her station naming her Raw Artist’s SF hairstylist of the year. She’s seriously amazing.
She puts so much care and quality into each service, and she’s so sweet and easy to talk to that the time just flies by. When I was 21, she gave me the most amazing Joan Jett-​esque rocker cut. It was a haircut I already had but when she was done, it was the most amazing haircut I’ve ever had. I felt straight out of a Crue video.
7 years later, my styles may have changed but Michelle is always there to take on the task. Last time i was in, we took the ombré i already had (which was also her work, a color correction from a DYI job of bright bright red. She is seriously a miracle worker) and put purple into it. I get so many compliments :-D She has so much fun with it and my hair always ends up so much better than I imagined and so much better than anyone else could of done because of her amazing talent and skill. I’ve followed her to every place she’s worked at and I’m so happy she’s at On Mars. The place is so cute and all the ladies here are so fun and sweet and amazingly talented.

On Mars is out of this world and Jenene is my go to girl!
I’ve been going to Jenene for years and she never fails me with all my insane ideas. She has an amazing talent for color and just recently took my hair to a whole new level. I was dark red for a couple of years and decided randomly to go blonde… and I mean BLONDE! Jenene was of course up for the challenge. The great thing about Jenene is she’s up front with you and tells you what may or may not happen so you are fully prepared and know exactly what you’re getting into.
So she told me straight up that she was going to work her magic the best she could to get the red out and go as blond as possible. She let me know it may take more than one appointment and to be ready for a not so blonde start just in case.
Fast forward to my appointment… she spent all day on my hair and took great care to keep the damage from bleaching to a minimal. I was MORE than happy with the results!!! The red came out and the blonde is beautiful. We are going to do one more appointment to pull the last bit of yellow out, but the results were far and above what I was expecting. I really thought this would take 3 or more appointments, but nope!
I highly recommend On Mars and especially my favorite stylist, Jenene. You will look great when you leave, I promise!

I really like On Mars.
First of all is very close to my favorite café’ (Café’ du Soleil), and I really like the grungy ambience.
The missing star is for lack of consistence, as the service varies a lot depending on the hairstylist.
BRANDI is amazing, she understand what I want better than I do, and then she executes quickly and with precision. Plus she has an awesome dog.
I usually ask for her, but one day she was booked, so I went with Jenene.
She did not understand what I wanted, and when I left the salon I had the exact same hair I had when I stepped in. But I was 75 bucks poorer.
Now I understand that this happens, but I feel like a Salon should have a certain standard, and make sure all of its hairstylist are up to it.
Having said that, I definitely recommend it, especially if you get to book an appointment with Brandi.

This salon is AMAZING. Most of all Brandi is just a miracle worker. I have extremely curly hair which is terrifying to have anyone come near because of prior stylist touching. She does exactly what I want done and has such an amazing personality. She always has you laughing. She does everything great from washing to color to styling. Shes so very talented and would never let another stylist near my head. She is very highly recommended. she’s truly talented and phenominal!!! Anybody that is thinking about going to on mars to see brandi will not be disappointed!!!

Have you ever had a hair cut that has left you sad, depressed, crying and thinking you’ll never find a man because you looked like a 12 year old boy. Well damn, I have surely had that hair cut. Let me tell you it wasn’t a good feeling.
The remedy was MICHELLE V. She was my miracle worker, my saving grace. She does excellent cut and is great at doing bright bold color which I love, and is brutally honest. I am very much a DIY person and love to do my own color. Michelle let’s me be my own colorist when I ask and will bleach my roots without questions (which a lot of hair artist get grumpy about because they want control) and she’ll give the best advice on colors and technique. She cuts hair like a boss and has helped my 12 year old boy hair grow out nicely and has helped me skip the awkward mullet that happens when hair goes from short to long. She seriously rocks.
If you want a great experience, great hair and great conversation hit up Michelle V. You won’t regret it!

I seriously lucked out finding Michelle!
As a girl who does almost nothing special with her hair, I decided to get it styled for a formal Gadsby-​themed wedding last weekend. I spent an hour looking up salons nearby, calling and asking if this type of style was in their repertoire, and trying to find an appointment. When I called On Mars Salon (also great as a salon), and heard the receptionist ask Michelle in the background if she was available, and describe what for, I heard an ‘oooooohhh’ of excitement in the background and knew I found the perfect fit.
A treat out of my ordinary, I felt so trusting of Michelle to work magic after flipping through an (extraordinary!) book of historic styles, and together made a plan for my long hair. During the style, two of the other stylists came to watch and even get a lesson on the technique to create 20s style pin curls… I also learned alot about methods to create the look (and others) that have inspired me to play with style for the first time in years. I also learned that ‘back in the day’ women would get their hair done and sleep with it and it would last a week! This information came in handy…
I was AMAZED at what Michelle did to my hair! I was transformed beyond my expectations. I got ready for the wedding, of course arriving 15 minutes late to the ballroom at the Regency in SF, and, no joke, my boyfriend realized we were a day early!
I panicked, I LOVED my hairdo! I never got this dolled up! I never got it styled, and certainly not so complicated! I texted Michelle, and over the night she guided me to find the right clips, hair spray, and silk scarf to pin it, sleep with it, and then… she accommodated me in her day to come to my house the next day (lugging a heavy backpack of her tools up a steeeeeep hill on Buena Vista Hill) to fix it up again. I was beyond grateful, and it may have actually looked even better the second day!
I received so many compliments at the wedding, and even was not recognized by a few friends at first. After the first night sleeping with it, I preserved the style for two more days, and LOVED running around town with it. Michelle totally made up for the mistaken wedding date! I will most certainly return, though it may be infrequent for my normally low-​maintenance life:) She has inspired me in general for what is possible in my hair style on my own as well!

Michelle V. Did my hair for the Raw Artists show at 1015 Folsom. My hair had never looked so striking! I’ve had every color in my hair before. I thought, until Michelle put in the amazing combination of aqua, and teal blues with this wicked neon green! The art show rocked and I loved my hair! It even started to fade beautifully.
Less then 2 weeks later I land a job interview with a very conservative company. I called Michelle and told her what needed to happen. BAM! A few hours later my hair is a beautiful copper brown, no green to be seen. Not to mention my hair felt great after all of that effort. We were sad to see the green go. This was also the first time I had done a hair show, and had Michelle V do my hair. She read the cut I wanted as if she read my mind. She’s very experienced. I would highly recommend her to anyone.

My amazing stylist, Jenny Jones, faded my hip length, thick black hair to ash/​grey silver. Not only is she an incredible colorist (ombré color being her specialty,) she is also a great listener. She understood exactly what I wanted and worked patiently towards our vision, spending about 23 hrs total over 3 sessions. During the last session, she worked on me until 1am after getting over a cold, with total dedication. She also cares a lot about keeping hair healthy and made sure not to push my limit on bleach. Since we broke this project down into multiple sessions, it actually promoted the longevity and elasticity of my hair. Had we rushed it, my hair would be brittle and gross.
I contacted several hyped salons in SF including Code and Morphic, before deciding on Jenny at On Mars. Ultimately, I picked her because unlike the others, she was the only colorist in the city who could achieve a smooth transition with the Ombré technique. Aside from skills, she was also the most down to earth and caring. If you want a color transformation done right, go to Jenny. She’s absolutely the best!

I have two words Brandi Gonzaga, she is not only a super fab hair colorist
she is also the most enjoyable hair experience I have had in SF. She takes the time to go over what will look good on you, matches the color and keeps you laughing the entire time you are there. I think she is a really a talented hairdresser with a great attitude if you are looking for a cool color or cut she is the girl or even conventional I think she can adapt to any hair situation and would recommend her to anyone :).
