They can really work it here when you go in. Just when I thought it might take awhile for them to prepare my take-out, the cooking staff in the back already have the different preparations set to go to scoop your menu into the food box. If you stay to eat, it’s right there before you know it. The meals are light-weight for the eats, so order a lot of the other menu’s with stacks of food to go. Can’t beat the price of $ 5.25. Wow.

Coffee and tea available here! Iced if you ask politely! Here’s the story. I am a caffeine addict. I am waiting for dim sum at lai Hong lounge down the road and I Unilocaled«coffee». The search yielded spots in north beach and nothing within 2 blocks. Thank goodness for original bakery! Clean and open before 9am! Seems that there is a kitchen in front of the cash register. Coffee, ice, half and half, table sugar are the only fixings.

Their $ 5 rice plates are awesome. I often have trouble deciding between black bean sparerib or chicken/chinese sausage, but you can’t go wrong with either. I think the sparerib comes with bok choy and the chicken with cabbage. The portion size is perfect for a hefty lunch or even two meals if you’re feeling more of a light meal. I usually ask them for an extra spoonful of green onion, and remember to add some sriracha on top. Whatever is in the rice is endlessly tasty, so go pure if you want too. They have some of the best baked BBQ pork buns in Chinatown for 80 cents each, but they typically are out by noon. Pretty hipster of them, eh?

Clean shop makes me a lot more comfortable eating here. While I’m no expert when it comes to green onion buns(60 cents), pork buns(75 cents), sticky rice($ 2), or spareribs over rice($ 5), these things were all pretty tasty to me. They tasted fresh and clean and the price was definitely right. I’ve gotten these items multiple times and it will likely continue to be a go-to for me when I’m in the area. The buns are to the left of the cash register on display. The sticky rice is on the counter and comes either pressed with peanuts or mung bean, and the spareribs over rice is displayed on pictures the wall. Just point at that and nod and they will kindly oblige. I normally go early in the morning so I can’t attest to the sticky rice and buns later in the day.

I used to come here for the $ 4.25 spare ribs over rice. Now it’s $ 5(including tax) which is still cheap compared to other places in Chinatown. I came for lunch at 2PM and there was plenty of seating. The waitress was friendly. Pros: *It’s clean! They recently remodeled. I didn’t know they had a bathroom before. *Free tea *No tax(Cash only) Cons: *Increased price. It’s still cheap for Chinatown though, and they added bak choy to the spare ribs. *Confusing menu. They have multiple pictures of the food around the restaurant. Some with and without prices listed. No complaints here

It was a great deal for a complete meal with meat, veggies, and rice! The lemonade was also good! I’m also surprised that it’s now clean and bright compared to how it has looked for the past two decades heh. I still remember the old place and the spare rib rice pots, so I’m glad they kept the traditional food going. Well, it’s good to know that the new owners made it much more inviting and have been a part of the community here for 25 years too.

Ownership changed. Staff completely changed. Menu changed and entrees cooked differently. Price increased. The original owner worked there for many years, it was a truly hole in the wall Pork Spareribs over rice. Without his recipe and cooking, it just isn’t the same. It didn’t smell as fresh, or as «home“y. The Chinese buns used to be a huge hit, with it being sold out on early mornings. Now they have the same 3 – 4 batches sitting the entire day. Will miss the old shop. This’ll never be able to replace it.
