I rate PJ and his team on the following:
— Deadlines: Excellent: PJ and his team met deadlines they set for themselves, set with me and my family, and set by the city. Throughout the new construction of my brand new house, he never missed his appointments with me, the vendors, or the city. He also completed the building of my brand new house ahead of schedule.
— Neighbor Management: Excellent: Because my house was going to take away the million-​dollar views of San Francisco from many of my neighbors and create construction noises throughout the day, PJ and his team had to address angry and irate neighbors at the construction site. He was professional and worked well with all the angry and irate neighbors. He also shielded a lot of the neighbors’ hostility from me and my family. He and his team diffused the neighbors’ anger and hostility with patience, kindness, sympathy, and by being cool, calm, and collected. I was truly impressed.
— Attention To Detail: Excellent: PJ and his team take pride in their work; and, every single element of the construction phase was done with quality and perfection. If a vendor presented PJ with a product that didn’t meet his quality criteria, he would not accept the product and made sure the vendor presented a replacement product that met PJ’s high quality standards.
— Business Ethics: Excellent: PJ is a man of integrity; and, he brought a high level of integrity to my new construction. For example, PJ accidentally left out a cost of something in his bid to my sister. During the construction, PJ told my sister, he left out a cost on his bid and would not charge her since he felt it was his fault. My sister told him she would gladly pay him the cost he left out; but, PJ responded, «No, it was my mistake, Irene; I will take care of it.» At the completion of our new home, we ended paying significantly less than the original bid. I was truly amazed by PJ’s business ethics.
— Construction Completion Time: Excellent: PJ and his team finished building my brand new house about a month ahead of schedule.
— Working with the City & County Of San Francisco: Excellent. He passed each inspection at all levels: building, city requirements, fire requirements, plumbing and electrical requirements, and so on.
— Communication: Excellent: PJ returned all calls and emails in an expedient manner. He spoke to me in a manner that I could understand him — he didn’t use jargon specific to his industry. He spoke to me in lay-man’s terms; so, I could understand every single thing he was going to do.
— Cost Management: Excellent: PJ made sure vendors were not financially screwing him or me by making erroneous and unsubstantiated costs. PJ evaluated and scrutinized every single cost on the vendors’ sides.
— Post Construction Maintenance: Excellent: PJ maintains our new home from the time of completion to present. In fact as of today, 25-​November-​2015, he will be working on an addition to our new house.
CONCLUSION:
PJ and his team are professional, long-​term vision oriented, efficient, smart, creative, helpful, professional, and take a lot of pride in their work. Each of his team members have strong work-​ethics, integrity, and attention-​to-​detail. They are customer driven and focused.
Everyone told me about the nightmares they had with their contractors; so, I was definitely concerned; but, the moment I met and interacted with PJ Hegarty during the bidding phase, I found that I did not need to be concerned; hence, my family and I selected him to build our new home. His construction process was smooth as silk, and my family and I slept well each single night — like little fat baby piglets — oink-​oink!

I’d been holding out on improving my backyard because the two existing retaining walls were threatening to wipe the whole thing out any day. But I didn’t think I had the money to replace the walls properly. PJ built engineered concrete walls. He used custom form work and white concrete mix so that the walls look good. He accommodated changes in the design without asking for a change order. And he left me with enough money left over to actually afford some plants. His guys were courteous, on-​time, and hard-​working. And PJ was always responsive, whether over phone, email or text.

PJ performed a major remodel and addition to our flats in Jordan Park and we couldn’t be more PLEASED. We have a pair of flats and PJ oversaw the addition of an entire floor so that the top unit is now two levels. The entire building was gutted and we added all new electric, plumbing, foundation… basically everything new down to the studs. Our home has a lot of architectural detail inside and outside which we wanted to maintain. PJ did the most amazing job ever!
He was on time, on budget and an absolute pleasure to work with. The addition looks like it was part of the original house, but it added over 1,300 square feet to our living space. PJ listens to his clients and wants to make sure he understands exactly what you want. He was always very professional, detail-​oriented and on the job site or reachable by phone. We could never say enough good things about how pleased we are with PJ’s work and would re-​hire him in a second if we did another project.
We highly recommend him!

PJ is that rare contractor who actually gets jobs done on time. Not only that, but the quality of his work is fantastic. I’ve used him for some structural and finish work and he did a wonderful job. I would use him again in a heartbeat.

PJ and his crew built a new house for us in SF as part of a two part construction job. When the bottom fell out of the financial markets, we were afraid to lose him, so we went ahead with part II, remodeling our primary residence. We’re glad we did.
