Fast, cheap, and delicious! I walked there for the first time and ordered the special which was bbq pork, baggage, onion, bbq sauce, hot sauce, and who the heck knows what else!?! 5 minutes later I walk in to the office, unwrap this thing, take my first bite, and FOODGASM! It only got better and better the more I had, but sadly it was over so quickly.(insert inappropriate joke here) Seriously, its a great cheap snack.

A Nice Place for Lunch on a beautiful SF day! The Farmers Market in Gene Friend Plaza is on Wednesdays The good bit: the pies were tasty, fresh, and had a good variety. The view of Gene Friend Plaza was a great place to each lunch. They take the environment seriously; they even label the trash/recycle/compost so anyone can understand what goes where! The not so good bits: for the size, it was a little pricey and the beef and potato pie tasted a teeny bit light a hamburger.

Just around the corner from my work. Keeps me full for from morning til about 2 or 3, then I can get a late lunch. The guy who runs the little store is incredibly nice and is always smiling. I don’t think I want anything else for breakfast ever. They do have other pies that are great but the breakfast has to be my favorite.

I love this little shop. My favorite pie is the egg cheese and sausage one. It’s the perfect breakfast food right before going into work. The gentleman who works there is super nice!

Today was a rare day in which I did not take my lunch to work. I never understand these people that spend $ 12 for a sandwich they could make just as easily make it at home, for 1⁄10 the price, and ½ the calories …(and I am only saying that b/c in reality I am jealous of those people who not only can do it — but are skinny as well. DAMN those people to HELL!). If you spend $ 8 – 12 for lunch out per work day it is $ 2,080-$ 3,120/year. Now that could be a nice vacation! But I digress. I wanted a smaller lunch that did not cost a fortune. I hummed and hawed for a while and remembered that this little place exists right around the corner from my office — that — AND — I had seen a sign that they were featuring a «holiday flavor»(turkey, veggies, cranberry, etc.). It was $ 3.98(no tax) and they heat it while you wait(takes about 3 mins) — but I would preferred if he had heated it for 5 mins b/c the middle was not exactly cold — but definitely not heated through. It was a hefty little sucker, slightly bigger than a hockey puck. And, while I found no signs of cranberry sauce(I do love some fruit and meat combos) it was darn tasty! They have a combo of soup and a pie for about $ 8, but now we are getting into«pricey lunch territory». I could definitely see myself picking up another one someday and heating it for dinner with a nice healthy salad.

This review is for their savory pies. Tried the spinach feta and chicken pot pie and both did not do it for me. I really wanted to like them but I could barely eat half of each. The dough is off and too thick with an almost cornmeal cakey consistency. If the dough was more thinner and flakey like a crossaint, then I would’ve enjoyed their pies much more. Filling for the spinach feta was not all that either, it’s yes loaded with spinach but the cheese was watery. The Chicken pot pie filling was better but not omg I need that in my life good. Just meh.

I don’t know why people have given this such negative reviews! This is my breakfast holy grail. One morning in the FiDi I was intensely craving a breakfast burrito. I just wanted some eggs sausage and potato. Lo and behold, I found peasant pies. A cute tiny stand near Mickey D’s. Only about $ 3.85 per pie and it’s ready in a minute! The eggs sausage and potato pie is amazing!!! It’s warm, soft, easy to hold, and filling. I also don’t feel gross after eating it like I probably would having a burrito. Seriously guys. $ 3.85 for a bomb ass breakfast. I’m not sure what there is to complain about. You’re not gonna eat this thing with a fork like a chicken pot pie, folks. EDIT: Also just want to add that Jaydee who works here(not sure about my spelling) is the sweetest ever!!! Make sure to say hi when you go. :)

A hole in the wall, pick up and go kind of place. A little disappointed honestly. The pies are premade and reheated when you order. I had the beef&potato and the spinach&feta. The pie was dry and the taste was just not good… Nope not coming back.

The gentleman who mans the shop is very friendly and polite. First, I like the soft, mealy, moist and bread-like crust as opposed to the usual greasy flaky pastry shells most pies seem to have. It’s almost like a hot-pocket. The garbanzo beans curry pie was the best of the lot I’d tried. It tasted like a channa masala curry. Next, the beef and potato pie was very nicely seasoned and spiced. The beef however seemed to have done a houdini as all I could taste was the potatoes and the spices; it felt like a samosa(albeit a very good one at that). The chicken and potato continued the story of the vanishing meat. The dill, in my opinion, didn’t seem to go well with chicken. However, it was an interesting flavour profile. Lastly, and almost least, the special of the day, the mushroom, carrot with cheddar and blue cheese pie, was a tad disappointing. I couldn’t really tell the blue cheese. It was a mixed bag for me.

I stumbled across this tiny little shop while meandering through the Fidi yesterday. I was on my way to Sushiritto, but couldn’t resist throwing $ 4 to the kind man behind the counter in exchange for a piping hot pie. I went for the Special Pie of the Month-a Red Lentil and Curry flavored pie. Within a minute, my pie was heated up and handed to me. You can eat these with one hand, but be careful of the dripping curry sauces! It was spicy and full of flavor. The pastry itself is soft and chewy-not flaky or crispy. Overall I think it was something fun to try and a great snack on the go. It didn’t quite fill me up so I ended up going to Sushiritto afterwards anyway. They have various other flavors, including the Garbanzo bean filled one which is also vegan-friendly. Coffee, soup, salads, and bottled drinks are also available for purchase here. Great operation, would buy again if I ever pass this area in the future!

I had walked by Peasant Pies numerous times, and I made a mental note to try it out. I figured it was a fool proof idea — small pies, various fillings, what could go wrong? It turns out a lot! I ordered a Beef & Potato pie and Chicken & Potato pie. I made the mistake of having reasonable expectations, like a flaky pie crust and flavor. Instead I got a soggy bready crust, that was devoid of any flavor. And the fillings weren’t much better — they were just unflavored masses. So if you find yourself walking by and thinking you should try one, just move along, there’s nothing to taste here.

Very mobility friendly,(you could probably eat these while running a marathon and not spill a drop), but they are too bland and a dry for my taste. They remind me of cornish pasties in a more utilitarian pastry shell. The shell is doughy, not flaky, which means no crumbs, but minimal mouth texture. I’d had been anticipating a chicken pot pie filling and was dissppointed to find that there really is no gravy or sauce inside. The chicken pies are dominated by a potato taste and texture. A perfect pie to pack for a healthy snack if you are going hiking or climbing half dome, but not ideal if you were looking forward to a rich juicy, deliciously artery clogging, chicken pot pie.

Friendly service? Yes. Affordable? Yes. Portable, so good for multitasking, i.e., eating and walking at the same time? Yes. With all these yeses, you’d think the rating would be higher. Alas, despite all the positives, the most important factor, tastiness, was missing. The pies are too doughy, not flaky, not crunchy, just devoid of any pleasant texture. The fillings are equally mediocre. The sausage in the sausage, egg, cheese pie was bland and not salty enough. Gasp, it might even have been of the nitrate free variety! Bleh. I really wanted to like the pies, but they just fell flat for me.

Best hole in the wall in SFO. Peasant Pies is no more than a window on a 5×5 ft space selling fabulous savory pies — both meat and vegetarian. I’d walk a long way for a great pie and Peasant keeps me coming back. The 3 meat varieties Chicken, Beef and Ham with Egg are wrapped in home style pastry that’s reminiscent of English pasties. The secret to good pies is balance — filling, freshness and flavored. Here they are brilliantly done. The pastry thickness is just right for the filling depth and volume making it perfectly hand sized. Eating on the go is required because the nearest seating is across the street. Each of the pies was excellent: Sausage, Potato and Egg — great for breakfast good amount of ham and egg is still fluffy after baking. This is a hard pie to get right and Peasant does it spot on. Potatoes are added flavor not filling. Nice sausage taste and good overall texture. Chicken and Potatoes — really a chicken and chunky veg. Celery, carrots, peas and potatoes with a Cornish Pasty feel to it. It’s nicely dry, not full of gravy like many chicken pot pies so there’s no messy sauce to run down your fingers or shirt. My favorite anytime. Beef and Potato — ground beef, spicy tomato based sauce with small chunks of potatoes and mushrooms. Again quite a dry pie which serves its round shape and no pie tin. This isn’t a traditional British style pie — they’d be more gravy and the pie would be thicker and typically square– but it works really well. Nice bite to the sauce which enhances the beef flavor. Was surprised I really liked this as I’m much more of a chunky beef girl. Didn’t try the vegetarian options but my partner in crime liked 2 of her 3 a lot.

I’m almost reluctant to write this review because I want this place to be one of those best-kept secrets! But I also want the owner of this tiny little food stand to thrive and be successful, because the food is just absolutely delicious! I had an appointment at the medical office next door, and the aroma of this food stand drew me in. Before I knew it, I had ordered two bowls of their Butternut Squash Soup, 2 of their Black Bean & Tofu Pies, and 2 of their Egg/Veggie/Cheese Pies! The total tab including tax, was a kiss over $ 21 — a bargain in the FiDi for such tasty food! My wife and I snarfed down the meal in no time, and plan on returning again tomorrow! They have a broad range of offerings, including vegan options, vegetarian options, meat & poultry options, soup, and salads! There is something here that you WILL enjoy!

Cute little savory hand pies! They’re only $ 3.65 each and make for a very affordable breakfast or snack(or get a few for lunch). They heat up pretty well in the oven or mini toaster oven too. The pie crust was a little disappointing. I was hoping for soft and flaky, but it was firmer and doughier than I would’ve liked. It wasn’t buttery or greasy though, and it did a very good job of holding the pie together, so still not bad overall. Bonus: I love that the menu has calorie info on it! ============================== –CHICKEN&POTATO — 5⁄5 [chicken, potato, onion, celery, carrot, pea, dill — 290 calories] Good balance of all the ingredients and tastes a tiny bit sweet. Chicken is a little dry but there’s a good proportion of it in this pie. The best part is you can enjoy it without breaking your calorie bank! –ZUCCHINI&MUSHROOM — 5⁄5 [zucchini, mushroom, carrot, onion, jack cheese, blue cheese — 350 calories] MMM just cheesy and gooey enough without being too heavy or overpowering. I usually dislike blue cheese but I couldn’t taste it in this pie. And there was a hint of sweetness. Great vegetarian option! Or even if you’re not vegetarian. –SPINACH&FETA — 4⁄5 [spinach, feta cheese, jack cheese, egg — 340 calories] Don’t get this if you don’t like spinach because it’s packed with spinach! Again, just the right amount of cheese, but a little more crumbly rather than gooey and melted because of the feta. –BEEF&POTATO — 1⁄5 [ground beef, potato, tomato sauce, onions, mushroom — 530 calories] Meh. Way too much potato and hardly any beef in this one. It was probably 95% potato with bits of ground beef and onion/mushrooms. I couldn’t taste any tomato sauce so it basically just had a really starchy(and rather bland) taste and texture from being almost purely crust and potatoes. Get if you really love potatoes. Don’t get if you’re actually looking for beef/meat

I stumbled upon Peasant Pies wandering around the Financial District during a 15-minute break, but it was unfortunately already closed at the time. I made a point of returning earlier in the afternoon, because I love pot pies, and the thought of a hand-sized pot pie made me happy. I got the chicken pie and a bottle of tea and it was only a few bucks, so points for being affordable; the man running the stand was also very nice, and it only took him a couple minutes to heat my pie up to a blazing hot temperature(seriously, be careful, that thing was almost TOO hot to hold). However, I wasn’t too impressed with the pie when I took a bite. The crust was flaky and moist, but the chicken and veggie filling tasted a bit off. I’m not sure what the problem was, but it left a sort of bitter aftertaste in my mouth the more I ate it. I really wasn’t getting much of a chicken flavor, either. I was really disappointed because I was hoping this would become a go-to place for lunch, since it had all of the qualities needed in a great lunch spot: cheap, really conveniently placed, good quality, and fast. But unfortunately, the chicken pie just really wasn’t what I would’ve hoped it was. I would at least go back to try a different pie; I think writing them off based off of one pie and one experience would be unfair, but I’ll at least be honest and say that my first impression here wasn’t what I was expecting.

I love anything you can eat on the go! Add to the fact it is delicious is another bonus! It is a cute stand almost easy to miss if you are not looking up to see the sign. It used to be Never Latte Café so I would come here often. Pleasantly surprised to see this new business. A very welcome addition to quick meals in FiDi. Notables: Beef & Potato Pie ~ ground beef, potato, tomato sauce, onion & mushroom nice balance of beef and veggies it was delish Chicken & Potato Pie ~ my favorite one yet with ground chicken, potato, onion, celery, carrot, pea and dill a delicious savory treat Spinach & Feta Cheese pie ~ spinach, feta, jack cheese with egg, very filling perfect for vegetarians Garbanzo Bean Curry Pie ~ garbanzo bean, tomato, onion, green onion & curry lovely balance of flavors Eggs, Sausage & Potato Pie ~ yummy breakfast sandwich option has scrambled eggs YOWZA Wish they had some sweet pies as well but J.D. the guy behind the counter said cold pies need refrigeration which space is limited at the tiny kiosk. The pies are a little on the tiny side if you have a big appetite get more than one pie. Get a lot of these delicious handheld pies because you can eat them for breakfast, lunch or dinner. So glad they opened up in the neighborhood. Only $ 3.65 for these savory pockets of goodness! Five stars!

Time: 11:02am/54°F mostly sunny Purpose: Was call to this location because they needed to be on the map. So without further ado, I walk from office to here with 7 minutes. These kind of business close by and walkable are ideal but, only once in a blue moon. Ambiance: This place use to be call The Coffee Closet but, shut down. After couple of no takers comes along PP. Place is like any other hole in wall but, a clean shop though. Nestle on the side of a share business building this shop is easy to spot as its right on the sidewalk. One cold fridge, utensil/condiment cart, snack tray, bag chip clips, trash can, acrylic case, back shelving, register, CC/EBT reader, tip jar, overhead menu, awning. Very small as JD the worker only can fit himself inside. Staff: JD himself was currently present. I walk up and intro myself that so and so call wanted a brief talk. JD said, person is not here at the moment but will be back later. I said ok, no worries heres my info. He ask would I like something? This was kinda early for pies so I said maybe later. Then I saw the special of the week turkey/cranberry pie and couldn’t resist. JD pops them in toaster oven and I didn’t even knew it. Thanks JD! Cleanliness: Grade A, impeccable. Nothing to say everything is up to code and standards. Business license posted. Eats/Drinks: Two pies turkey/cranberry and lentil/yam both $ 3.65. I don’t know what to say other than silence when I eat them. The listed ingredients can be taste once you take a bite. Both are so good the turkey is limited time production run and sells out fast. The pastry dough that most people think is being use? Its not instead a mini size pita bread loke pocket with all the fillings stuff inside. Must enjoy when warm or hot. Products/Services: Round hand-held pies, salads, juices, kombucha, water, Ritter Sport chocolate squares, savory pies, combo meals, pie of the month. Catering available 24hr in advance. Coffee by Mr. Espresso, tea by Numi, chips by Kettle(3.5oz only). Punch Lines: On the go, more choices than their authorized dealer, one of 4 places in SF, quick, efficient, modest prices, friendly, all hand-held round, good for up to 7 days(if kept frozen), takes all plastics, never a line, street parking or garage, fi-di, within steps of major transportation. Tradeoffs: You can pay up to $ 7+ for a slice of pie or potpie that’s only one flavor. Here you pay $ 7.30 for two and get to taste the best of both world. Most places that carries PP are sold cold, here they warm it up for you. Final Thoughts: As a pie loving person I just don’t eat any type thrown at me. It has to be certain crust, fillings, smell, pleasing to the eyes in able for me to eat it. Since I’ve buying them from Rainbow Grocery in the past. I knew what PP is all about so I stop buying them from grocery store and hit up the source itself. You can’t go wrong here and a quick lunch or snack there will be one you’ll like.
