Pepito’s Ice Cream Y Paletas

Pepitos is the best. We ordered ice cream for a company party and we got fresh natural Mexican dessert in a matter of few minutes.
It was so good, we ordered seconds.
I highly recommend it.

I reached out to Nancy about getting paletas for a wedding reception that I was hosting. I knew it was going to be a sunny warm afternoon setting so thought that paletas would be a great special treat. I found Pepito’s Ice Cream online and sent an email to Nancy. We went back and forth a few times, and then I kind of dropped the ball in finalizing the order. Just a few days before the event, I reached out again to Nancy to see if it was still possible to order the paletas. Usually, you need 7days, but Nancy made it happen! I was super, super appreciative! We couldn’t choose from the entire menu, but we had four knock out flavors — mexican hot chocolate, limon, strawberries and cream, and mango. All of our guests, kids and adults alike, loved them! They kept asking me where I got them. Thanks Pepitos! I can’t wait to try new flavors in the future!

So Nancy the owner used to have a restaurant in So. City and it went down during the economy melt down. All her clients including myself kept asking for ice cream and if she was willing to cater. Luckily she really likes her ice cream and kept all her equipment. Now she’s running this sweet catering company. Great for kids looking for a party with typical latin vibes. A funny frog in a poncho shows up to your party. Salsa, mariachi, bachata, merengue, cumbia, banda and other latin beats play in the back ground while getting served your delicious ice cream by sweet and cute caterers that dance or sing while they work. My favorite is the Mexican Hot Chocolate, but coconut and dulce de leche are close contenders. As for the ice pops, tamarindo, mango with chile, coconut, watermelon, papaya… mmmmmm it’s hard to have a favorite! Ice cream party for all!!!

Authentic and Fresh…
These are the first two words that come to mind when I take a taste of this stuff. I recently tried a few flavors at a friend’s holiday party. Fried Banana, Sweet Potato, and even a Tequila based ice cream were all on the menu and all were sure darn tasty. My favorite was the Fried Bananas (I need this in my life soon ASAP), followed by the Tequila and Sweet Potatoes. I never even know they made Tequila ice cream but def was feeling the taste and light hints on my palate.
Next time I host a party I think I’ll reach out to this business. My friend said they cater to most flavors/​ideas so I think this will be a nice treat for my guests, you know, something uniquely delicious.
I even heard I can scoop some flavors up at Whole Foods so I’ll be looking for that if I get an itch prior.

I ordered Pepito’s for a corporate event that we had this past week. I found them through Unilocal after searching «Mexican ice cream» and was so happy that I did.
Pepito’s has a few hundred flavors to choose from — real fruit flavors like pomegranate, strawberry, mango, to Mexican favorites like margarita, horchata, dulce de leche, flan. my mouth waters just thinking about them.
We ended up getting a party package with 3 flavors: Mexican hot chocolate, 100% mango sorbet and dulce de leche.
Nancy came with her co-​worker to our office and served the ice cream herself. She brought along music and played Mexican music throughout the event, which was so much fun and festive. She also brought along toppings — bananas, fresh strawberries, cherries, candies and sauces. The ice cream was kept perfectly cold by dry ice and so ice cream could be served for two solid hours.
My co-​workers all agreed: bring Pepito’s back to the office next time we have a company event!

I’ve tried multiple flavors from Pepito’s and every one is amazing! I love the natural taste and agave syrup. After your first bite it’s obvious that this ice cream is fresh, natural, and made with love! I’ve never had a better tasting ice cream. Also, if you get a chance, try the pineapple popsicle!
Really looking forward to trying their new flavors this summer — caramelized sweet corn, and pure mango. Highly recommended!

Pepitos Ice Cream is the freshest, highest quality *home made ice cream you’ll find in the Bay Area. I LOVE ice cream, so believe me I know. What is particularly great about Pepitos is that they deliver to your door step, which is obviously SO convenient when you live in the city. The woman who delivered the ice cream was surprisingly beautiful, and very charismatic, which makes the experience of home made ice cream delivery, even *sweeter!
I highly recommend having them deliver some Pine Nut, and Mexican Chocolate. Both are very unique, and award winning flavors. They are reasonably priced for gourmet home made ice cream, and its perfect if you are throwing a dinner party, because people will inevitably ask, «Did you make real home made ice cream??? Although its tempting to take the credit, I always give the kudos to Pepitos. In my opinion, what makes Pepitos Ice Cream the best, besides the great flavor, is the texture. Its has that creamy, melty soft consistency, which all freshly made REAL ice cream should. Order some, its convenient, and an awesome delight to have around the house and for special events…

We had Pepito and his homies out to our work party yesterday to help add a little flava’. They were THE nicest people. Pepito was dancing and taking pictures with everyone and totally livened up the party.
When they went to pass out ice cream samples to all of the guest, I sampled a Pecan/​Coconut/​Tequila flavor that was quite honestly the best ice cream I have ever tasted.

What a way to end the day at the Eat Real Fest. A cone topped w/​an ice cream scoop of coconut fantastical deliciousness. The color of this coconut ice cream wasn’t even white, it was more like a deep cream bordering a bit of yellow, even. It had bits of sweet coconut throughout, enough to keep your taste buds at work. Pepito’s ice cream had a nice thick, home made consistency. Even the cone was perfect.
They were sold out of Sweet Corn (booooo), I’m sure I would’ve sung a song for that flavor too.

They have an assortment of Mexican ice cream flavors — For those of you not willing to try something new, they also have the traditional/​regular flavors.
Mexican Chocolate is my fav. I also like their Dulce de Leche and Strawberry ice cream flavors. YUMay!
Besides their scoops, they also sell ice cream bars and Mexican candies. I usually buy a bunch of the bars to stock up my freezer — Strawberries and Cream, Mango, and Pineapple FTW!
FYI: There’s no real seating area inside.

Ive been here twice now, the first time was a bit awkward since the girl working there had her Reggaeton music blasting so loud she had trouble hearing me. I like my Reggaeton music too but its not the best conversation music. After she turned down her music it was all good tho. The second time around the girl was super nice and patient as i sampled and stared at teh different flavors for a lil while before deciding.
They have a good assortment of flavors from sweet corn, mamey, tequila, mexican chocolate, dulce de leche and a few more flavors.
The first time going i got the mamey ice cream and it was really good, Mamey is a tropical fruit usually grown in Latin American countries and put into milkshakes, ice cream and smoothies. The consistency was a bit thick but creamy and very good on palate.
On my second trip i decided to ended up getting the sweet corn and mamey together. They went together very well since the Mamey isn’t too sweet and the sweet corn was just a tad bit sweeter.
Other flavors that i sampled where the tequila which in my opinion had a decent tequila flavor and was not overwhelming. The Mexican chocolate i thought was only ok, the chocolate flavor wasn’t as in depth as i thought it would be.
Things to Note:
They make their Sugar Cones fresh on the spot (note to self: try one next time)

It ain’t Mitchell’s…but it ain’t bad either.
There’s a lot of good restaurants in this part of South City on Grand Avenue so we decided to walk around and explore the area. After eating a wonderful meal, we were in the mood for some dessert so how fortuitous it was that we stumbled upon this place.
They have logo of a frog wearing a sombrero as their mascot. Hmm… a frog selling ice cream. The guy working the counter was cool and helpful, but was a bit overbearing… more along the lines of patronizing. You see, we were wearing our Giants gear but the guy clearly didn’t know what he was talking about. We let it slide, and come to find out it was his first week working there so we gave him a pass.
However, he did recommend the Mexican Chocolate and it was pretty good. It was grainy (in a good way) and had a unique flavor. It wasn’t overpowering but it did leave a distinct aftertaste that lingered in your mouth. My kids had the strawberry and plain olé vanilla. I know… very adventurous. What I liked their ice cream is that everything had this homemade taste to them which was satisfyingly good.
A solid 3 ½ rating.

After reading several reviews i had to check this place out… ohhhh man 5 stars all the way!!! The girl there was so nice and gave me the whole story about this place, how Mondays are the day the the ice cream is made and by the time Sunday rolls along they are all out. all the Ice Cream is fresh and will not be sitting around for more then a week…
I got to try their baileys ice cream and mmmmm it was so goood you can taste the alcohol kick at the end. They also have a Brandy ice cream as well as others. Apparently you can just give em a call or stop by and have them make you any ice cream with alcohol as well…

Cool place to grab a scoop of ice cream to go after having lunch off of Grand Ave. Only having maybe a seat or two inside, Puddle is tiny but easily spottable from the Mexican ice cream cart right out in front.
Ordered up a two scooper of their most popular flavors, pine nut and sweet corn in a cup ($ 4.50). Their employee said that their ice cream is freshly made every week. It had a Dreyer’s ice cream like consistency, a little bit thick and not as icy. Not as smooth and creamy as a gelato or Haagan daaz but still pretty good. The pine nut flavor was interesting. It was pink of all colors and had these pine nut pieces that gave it a little earthy bite. It even had a hint of tree sap flavor.
The sweet corn was the tastier of the two imo. I’m not a big fan of super sweet ice creams like rocky road so I’m happy that this one had a subtle flavor to it.
Solid 3.5 stars.

I’ve only been here once and I had their peanut butter ice cream. I’ve always wanted an ice cream place to have that flavor but for some reason, they never do. Haha. Theirs was incredible and it even had peanut pieces in it!

Super fatty but amazingly good, learned it from a friend: their Pecan Popsicle dipped in chocolate. It’s one of those wonderful goodies that you know while you’re eating it, it’s going straight to your thighs and it doesn’t bother you in the world, until AFTER consuming the entire thing.
+4, because their popsicles melt fast, even during South San Francisco’s depressingly cold weather. Make sure to ask for extra napkins cause it’s just going to drip allover and you’ll end up looking like a hot mess with a stain on your clothes/​car seat.

Pepito’s bright and cheerful hole in the wall is chock full of goodies: breakfast tortas, regular tortas, hot dogs, Mexican coffee drinks, smoothies, juices, milkshakes, chocolate dipped bananas, paletas, snow cones, made on the premises Mexican ice cream, and Mexican candy. There isn’t much spare space inside but they’ve managed to squeeze in some frog toys (for display only, they belong to Pepito).
When I see a case full of ice cream, I tend to look in to see what looks good. The flavors aren’t labeled though — they’re written up on the chalkboard above. I counted 14 flavors — some were traditional like vanilla and rum raisin but they also had sweet corn, sweet potato, mamey (a Mexican melon), strawberry pinenut, Mexican chocolate, rose, watermelon, etc. Ask for samples.
I get the sense that the firmness depends on how long ago the ice cream was made. I tried the sweet potato ice cream which she made that morning and it was much softer than the Mexican chocolate that was made the day before. I settled for a scoop of Mexican chocolate ($ 2.50 for 1 scoop, $ 4.25 for 2 — the mamey flavor is more expensive). It was softer, fluffier and airier than I’m used to. Mexican chocolate has a sharper taste but the overall ice cream was not intensely flavored. I’d give the ice cream three stars (sorry Pepito).
The paletas are $ 2 and I couldn’t tell what the flavors were (you have to ask and I felt too lazy to ask since I had just asked about the ice cream flavors). Snow cones are just $ 1 right now (I couldn’t tell what the flavors were either) and the Pepito size scoop of ice cream is $ 1.
I also had a chicken torta ($ 6.75) which was very good though the marinated chicken was quite dry. The torta, made with a soft sweet roll was stuffed with generous amounts of chicken (big skinless strips), crispy lettuce, sautéed onions (yum), pickled jalapenos, tomatoes, avocado, and Mexican soft cheese (mild, white). Not too saucy, quite flavorful. They had other types including a bacon torta, honey ham, breaded chicken, etc.
There isn’t much room to sit inside (1 table, a couple of stools) or outside (a few chairs). You can get your ice cream on a cone if you want.

The ice cream here is top notch. It’s quaint, the staff is polite, answers questions patiently and suggests new items based on what you’ve picked.
We ordered 6 ice cream bars for $ 12 and weren’t disappointed in the least. Strawberry milk, watermelon, coconut, mango and a mixed fruit. All good.
It has a great atmosphere on a hot night and seems like a great neighborhood hangout. It’s right off the Grand Ave. exit so it’s an easy commute from the highway.

Went here for the special Unilocal discount which was awesome.
Our total was $ 9 ($ 8 for ice cream and $ 1 for 2 tamarind candies)
Added some pictures that i took of the store. Gloria was really nice she let me wear the sombrero and also took a picture with me. The shop was a bit small it fits 6 people inside comfortably but anymore is overcrowding.
I had a fresh batch of strawberry ice cream which was still soft and a scoop of pecan (which was really good)
My friend had a coffee and coconut which i tasted (and loved) also but she couldn’t finish it the portion was a bit much.
edit: I did not finish mine either, unfortunately i was born without a sweet tooth… life’s just not fair.
