as soon as i found out they had opened a physical location semi-​close to me, i was ecstatic! some of my best denim finds had been on their site, so i couldn’t wait to check out their store in union square’s westfield.
when i visited the store, i appeared to be the only customer. there were three associates scheduled at that time and i suppose they all run on commission cause everyone was pretty tuned in on my every move. i finally allowed the female associate to start me a room and that’s when the other two gentlemen tuned me off radar. they couldn’t even answer a few questions without seeming bothered.
i understand how commission works, so it makes sense to be extra polite, but here everyone seemed like sharks and once you’ve been snatched up they turn into rude crazies. the whole environment seemed to scream out «anything for a sale!»
after an unsuccessful attempt at finding my size, the female associate who was «helping» me suggest i try on one up just to see what the style would look like on me since it was new. i knew it very well wouldn’t fit but tried it on and showed her anyway just to get her to stop hounding me. she insist that it fit perfect and that i should get them! are you serious? the pair i had on were way to big and considering it would stretch, it would bag out even more. does it look like i want to spend that much for a saggy ass?! i actually found a pair on sale that i was contemplating on, but of course she kept pushing for the regular priced one.
by now i was beyond irritated but decided to inquire about a pair of frankie b. geisha’s that i had saw online. she insisted that another pair of frankie b’s in the store was it and argued with me for a few minutes. seriously? i think i know what i’m looking for and those were definitely not it. then i assume she realized she wasn’t messing with no fool and tried to dodge the remainder of the conversation by mumbling on about how the online system differed from the store’s. i was on my way out the door when she yelled out «so you’re not going to get these?!»
this visit unfortunately ended my relations with planet funk as a whole. even though i now understand the difference between their physical and online operations, just the affiliation is enough to leave a sour taste.

i have been to the melrose location in the past. and at that time. i really loved shopping at planet funk. however. as people change. so do fashion interests. that was the situation for me.
they carry ed hardy and true religions as well as the same old things that have become so trendy lately… its not so original anymore yenno?
the melrose location has a ton of more merchandise than this location.
i added a star because i was greeted on the way in and on the way out! (which was in a matter of a minute. i swear)

I got a pair of Seven Jeans for $ 80 here. They were already on sale… and then an additional 40% off each sale item if you buy three items. So my friend and I combined to buy some jeans and got some nice discounts.
Only been in this store twice… came out pretty happy. I’ll come here again to look out for some more deals on the jeans!

This store is ehhh. Their selection is pretty random. They carry a few Sky pieces but they don’t really interest me. The rest of their clothing is just bleh.

i came here before the true religion jeans store opened up in the bloomies mall. this was the only boutique size store i knew that carried the brand. and that was the ONLY reason why i came in.
when i went to the planet funk store in socal the service there was good, the sales lady helped me with various different brands that carried the style i was looking for.
however, at this location i was INVISIBLE to them. is it cuz i looked like i couldnt afford your eff-​ing $ 200 jeans? in any case i went in, looked around, grabbed my own size, put myself in a fitting room, determined for myself if i liked the pants… and decided for myself to purchase it.
even as i was purchasing it the 2 store employees (with no other cutstomers) treated me as if i weren’t even there. i mean, is it too much to want a «hello, how r u?» f*ck you planet funk. i’m gonna take my $ 200 true religion jeans obsession to the REAL true religion store…

Right when you walk in the employees are NOT making eye contact with you asking.“HI, how are you”. they are STARING at your denim. conversations varies from there depending on the denim you are wearing during the time of visit.
I’ve visited this store multiple times just to check out their selection of denim, and i have to say i am thorougly impressed; but nothing that bloomingdales, nordstrom, or neimans don’t have. So far I’ve only purchased a pair of Sevens there and I can safely say that’s my last pair of jeans or article of clothing that i’ll be purchasing there. The workers are arrogantly judgemental and that;s just an understatment.
Personally, I’ll just go to the next premium department store or shop on their website NEXT TIME so i don’t have to deal with them. ugh. but i’ll be nice. 2 STARS!

Great spot to pick up great clothes, and fantastic service.
I was a little surprised finding this spot. After navigating my way through the over-​lit, almost-​theatrical Westfield Centre, I found this shop in a strange passway. I couldn’t find exactly the style that I was looking for, and this store caught my eye. They had a ton of LA Style clothes and jeans that I was looking for. I looked through their R&R Jeans, Monarchy hoodies/​shirts, Seven, and other higher end brands: The selection is great. I would say this would be one of my favorite stores in the Westfield Centre (though I hate malls).
The staff is so helpful and ready to be of assistance. They really are the highlight of the store. They are always there to help, and they make for good conversation. I remember chatting with them as I pursued through the store; while they were giving me suggestions on their inventory. The attentiveness wasn’t overbearing either, and made for great shopping. The soundtrack playing in the store may be reminiscent of a warehouse rave circa 2001, but its still not too bad to draw one away from the good selection and the great service.
Great Service and good selection make this place somewhere to check out.

why is this store so damn amazing every time i visit sf i always make my little way to this random store… the girls there are super sweet and there are always sales!!! please lord venture to seattle so that the girls up here can dress a little bit better and stop over wearing forever 21 clothes ;)

so many jeans! i love it… and one time i saw the cutest monarchy jacket… but the price tag was just unappealing ($ 208… no thanks)
ive never bought anything here (yet) but i do love to browse around… the only thing that really bothers me is that the jeans in the sale section are from seasons wayyyyyy back

I’m happy to see this store made its way up here. I used to go to the one on Melrose. It’s a good mix of high end brands (jeans include R&R, Joe’s, Seven, Citizens, etc) and affordable stuff (dresses, tops). It’s not as pretentious as the other urban mall store, Metropark. Their dressing rooms don’t have mirrors in them so you have to use the big mirror in the back of the store where everyone can see if you’re trying on something one size too small (squeeze it all in before you walk out) or whether something you thought was cute on the hanger looks horrible on you (not everyone can pull off the 80s look).

When this place came to the city I was so excited. This store is so great for their reasonably priced tops and can’t forget their designer jeans. They have a really good selection for jeans too. AND if you buy something like 10 pairs of jeans, you get one pair for free. BUT the only thing that kinda sucks is that the free pair of jeans is really them giving you a $ 150 gift certificate. What if I bought 10 pair of rock and republic jeans at $ 250 a pop, then I get a free shitty pair of sevens? I don’t see how thats a free pair of good jeans.

I mean come on, I can’t be squeezing my flat Asian ass into ridiculous $ 200 jeans that make me look bootylicious without wearing fuck me pumps (Amy Winehouse reference). im really happy they finally opened a store up in the bay area. i used to shop at all of the various locations in LA, they sell the usual boutique clothing but they also offer their own line. i always felt this store was reliable in finding cute/​trendy clothes that can withstand partying haha. but at the same time, offer something that doesnt look cheap and is not available everywhere which is a big plus for me. it’s merchandised well, the store is clean, and i only seem to come on weekday mornings/​noon since i work nearby so everyone has always been very nice to us. anyway, im just very thankful to finally have this in the bay area and i hope they continue to bring in more merchandise for me to choose from. next up, pinkberry por favor!

I agree, the LA stores were a lot better! I was excited to hear we were going to have one here, but when I went into it yesterday for the first time, it wasn’t as cool as the LA stores were… but I did see a lot of stuff i wanted and my best friend also treated me to a cute outfit :) The sales associates were standing around just talking and he even admitted he was daydreaming when we were trying to get his attention to grab something way up there. But when we did have their attention, they were nice but I think we could’ve been talked into buying more. The return policy sucks, you only have 10 days to return for a refund and i believe 21 days for a store credit.

Fell in love with Planet funk in L.A. so naturally I was stoked (wtf?) when it finally opened shop in the new mall in s. f… a monstrosity called westfield… yee haw! i was happy happy. What is it about l.a. that makes even mediocre activity so fun. I was in the store in SF for 20 min and i just lost complete interest. eveyrthing was cute enough, but there just asn’t any inspiration. The sales people were blah, the displays were whatever, and this dumb b*&#% kept standing behind me while i was trying to look at my fine ass reflection. annoying
i’d go back, wandering back in aimlessly if i happen to be at the mall, but its definitely not a must go to store for… well anything…

I’m really leaning towards 3.5 stars but since there were so many cute clothes, I gave it 4 stars. This store just opened 3 weeks ago in the Nordstrom side of the SF Shopping Centre. They sell men’s and women’s clothes that are very urban. Lots of brand names that you can find in the department stores such as most of the designer jean brands, Harajuku Lovers, and Juicy Couture. They also have their own line of Planet Funk clothes that are really cute. Very unique stuff.
So why the 3.5 stars? First, they don’t do free alterations on the jeans like the department stores do but they’re a boutique shop so that’s understandable. They have a «buy 7 jeans and get the 8^th pair free» deal to make up for it though. My second gripe is that they don’t have mirrors in their fitting rooms. This really annoys the crap out of me – especially since it’s a co-​ed store! I have to come out of the dressing room and stand in the middle of the freakin’ store to see how each item looks. Then the store clerks ooh and ahh over how good you look. I’m a grown woman – I can tell when something looks good or crappy on me and I don’t need to parade in front of the store for every item I try on! BCBG does this too and I hate it. My third gripe is that half the racks in the store are up too high to reach. They’ll happily pull items down for you to try on but I like grabbing my own clothes. Another minus is that they only allow you to take in 5 items at a time – H&M let’s you bring in 10. The other thing is they have a 10 day exchange/​store credit policy. No refunds. That seems kinda harsh to me considering I could go to Nordstrom or Bloomingdale’s and have an open ended refund policy but again it’s understandable since they are a small shop. One last gripe… the shopping bags look cool but the handles cut into your fingers.
Despite all my ranting, I really like this store. Some of the items are way out of my price range at $ 200+ but some of the less expensive items are cute enough to warrant the $ 50+ price tag. The store clerks are also extremely helpful and friendly. It would be a solid 4 stars if they put mirrors in the dressing room.
