The wife wanted to redecorate our house, and this place is deferentially different. Propeller takes design to a different plateau, think modern living meets the future in this trendy and artsy way.
The furniture is unique, and visually appeasing; much better than the pottery barn nonsense we had at home.
We bought many one of a kind pieces and plan on doing more shopping here.
A definite must see shop.

This is a great place to check stuff out that you can’t touch. ¹⁰⁄₁₀. Would come back again to not touch stuff. Great, great non-​touchable things. Sometimes I come in just to breathe on things because, you know, you can’t touch them.

Excellent, modern furniture.
Pricey, yes.
But quality costs more and lasts longer — so there is definite value in these pieces. We purchased a sofa + chair from Propeller 10 years ago and are just now ordering new covers. The style is timeless. And it feels good to renew, rather than replace.
Kathryn has gone above and beyond with customer service. And she has an honest eye for interiors. We’re thrilled with the direction she steered us in — our space is going to look AMAZING when the new covers arrive!

Great collection of furniture. along the lines of DWR but more affordable, and greater variety /​customization. Great boutique.

My partner and I happened to be up in this neighborhood to visit a furniture store across the street. As we walked back to the car we passed Propeller and decided to pop in. Boy are we glad we did! The store was empty and Kymberly welcomed us and was very helpful. They just have a bunch of little things that are interesting and we had never seen before. Immediately we found a couple book ends and a ceramic paper airplane that for whatever reason jumped out at us. So we picked those up, then kept looking around. It’s not a big store but they have a bunch of stuff all around.
We also were quite taken by the Moooi Raimond lights they have there. Sure, they’re pricey, but we had been looking for something to put in our new entryway and they really stood out. After leaving the store we thought more about the and decided that since we hadn’t seen a single thing that we _​really_​liked we decided to pony up the money for one of them. We called back to order the light and they were super helpful about getting the order over the phone. We live in the south bay so it’s a trek to get up to the city. When the light arrived they called and we went by to pick it up. It’s now installed and it’s perfect!
So if you’re looking for a friendly, interesting place with unique items that are somewhere between functional and artistic (or both at the same time!), this is definitely one of the places you should stop by.

Great one stop shopping for design forward furnishings and lighting. Think DWR but with more up and coming designers… great art too! Knowledgeable salespeople that don’t make you feel obligated to buy something. I especially like the fact that they have a large selection of smaller gift items and accessories… I can always find something I can’t live with-​out (with-​out breaking the bank)!

Chiliwich rugs, seductively artistic lighting and retro furnishings make me want to redo my house every time I enter Propeller. They know how to buy the simplest things to make or break a room. Spend wisely, they aren’t the bargain, but certainly one of a kind!

Walk towards the back and expect to find a small selection of classy vibrators for women.
Propeller wants to remind you that sex toys are part of home décor.

Super cool unusual stuff. Great place to buy a gift for someone you really like.

Think Design within Reach-esque…Propeller takes design to another level. Where modern living meets future living, this trendy and artsy boutique has some interesting conversational and contemporary pieces.
Their furniture is both visually appealing and unique, architecturally structured with details that will make any designer drool. This is not your typical design store chain. You’ll be sure to find one of a kind pieces from both well-​known and independent designers alike.
If you’re willing to spend some money, you can find some great custom made pieces from local artists to adorn your walls. What the heck, if you’re willing to spend some money and if your a huge fan of modern décor you’ll be tempted to buy everything in the store.
A definite must see shop if you’re in Hayes Valley. Who know’s you may find that next piece for your living room or bedroom that gives it the extra shizam!

I appreciated the sales quality here a lot. There is a tremendous difference between a single store operation and a larger franchise.
I’m probably your typical lower-​end type who is just getting into buying some decent furniture, taking a long time to make my decisions. I still love some of my street furniture, my place is tiny, and I’m ready for it to look a little more grown up. A bunch of my gal friends were over and one of them called my place «our clubhouse.»
But oh well.
This Propeller guy Lorne is up on his stuff. If you walk in and say you were looking at the small apartment issue of Dwell he knows exactly what you’re talking about and is ready to commisserate on your level, or I get the impression whatever level you’re on in terms of your shopping quest.
½ hour later I was in one of the more ubiquitous furniture stores specializing in mid-​century modern, and their salesperson said proudly, «Oh I never read Dwell. I’m totally not up on all of that — I only read music magazines.» Ok, that’s a conversation stopper — how about «I haven’t seen that issue yet — was there anything from our store in it you’d like to see?» I’ll tell the truth and say I ended up buying something from this music guy anyway, but it’s primarily because I had been looking at the particular item for two years and I caught a no-​tax, free shipping sale deal. So the job was done, but I’m more inclined to return to Propeller to support a small local business, and because seem to process what you’re talking about. And if you’re going to live with an expensive piece of furniture for a long time, that’s important.

Gorgeous and unique home décor. The X Pand Table is something to be seen — it’s the coolest dining room table I’ve ever seen. Now I just need to convince the boyfriend we need a new dining room table! ;)
The furniture is expensive, but looks well made and has functionality AND beautiful design.
There are lots of cool housewares knickknacks too — perfect for gifts (or yourself!)

Honestly, I find most of the furniture here really screaming LOOK AT ME!
It would be very hard to fit most of these pieces into an interesting room décor. Particularly if you tend to be eclectic in taste, and not only wanting an exclamation point décor scene. And the prices are really not that reasonable, considering these pieces are not always that well made.
And a staff with way toooo much «I’m so hip — are you?» attitude =
PLEASE get rid of your attitude — that is sooooo 1980s Nancy Reagan!

I like to touch things.
It’s true. Feeling things, people and stuff up is a fave past time o’ mine. So imagine my sheer and utter sensory deelight after stumbling in here and discovering a wealth of fell-​up-​able options!
They had neat wire rugs, shades, a big gigantor felt rose looking thing hanging on the wall. They had ceramic vases that looked like they should be soft. They had hands sticking out of walls. They had groovy curled up desks and couches. It was like being in a hip design carnival or something and even though the über modern, contemporary design scheme isn’t really my thing, I totally appreciated what this store had to offer it’s consumers.
Definitely worth a pop in on a leisurely Sunday stroll through Hayes.

Most things in here might cost an arm and a leg, but you know what.
If I was to die and go to ‘Ultra Mod Heaven’, I’d totally want my pad full of EVERYTHING in this store!
They have the coolest housewares I’ve ever seen. Modern, minimalist mobiles, couches, vases, wooden digital alarm clocks even. They’ve got it all.
Great furniture, awesome knick– knackery, and some dope barware. Totally in love with Propeller.
Now, just have to figure out that whole ‘dying’ piece of the puzzle and I’m in business.

I used to think Propeller was OK. Then I went to one of their events and generally spent much more time inside, and I just got this strange feeling that the art and furniture were pretentious. Now, I don’t necessarily think the art and furniture they sell here are inherently pretentious, but Propeller makes them seem so. And that’s strange because the name and even display style of the place seems to work against pretentiousness.
Or maybe it’s just that I don’t like expensive furniture places that cater to unrealistic notions of space, have a strange sense of art’s role in society, or are located in Hayes Valley.

I wish I had the money to have an apartment with thing from Propeller.
Aside from the Godfather-​like horse head sitting on the couch, I thought everything was really great. My favs were the magnetic spice wracks, which I might actually go back and pick up when I actually have an apartment to decorate, and a couch that was sitting right next to the entrance door. It was a simple couch, but yet incredibly stylish. It folded out to be a bed and cost $ 2700. So much for that but a girl can look, can’t she?
All in all, it’s a fun store to look around in and play with but I’m going to need a serious raise to actually shop here.

I love the Dwell home placemats I got on sale. Such a great deal.
I love getting sale notices in my inbox. I add them to my calendar with reminders. (yes, really.)
Why 3 stars?
Well last year, I fell in LOVE with a über cool wine rack. I asked the sales man to call me as soon as they got more. (He said more were on the way) I even offered to leave my CC number so he could charge and ship it to me as soon as he recieved them.
I never got a call. I went in for a sale recently but didn’t have time to follow up on the wine rack b/​c it had been so long. I guess I’m still bitter about the whole thing b/​c I never found another wine rack like it.
I’m passing by again this weekend. Maybe this review will turn into 5 stars…

I want everything in this store. Sadly I can not afford it.
If you have gots the cash and you gots style. GO. Please. Buy stuff and think of me!

Propeller issues some pretty nifty receipts. They say, «the government’s take» on the line where they figure the tax.
Beyond that… I also love the woody goodies (gorgeous pieces in doug fir, alder, pine heartwood), Lucite items, leather, and other not-​so-​necessities of la bonne vie. If I had more money and square footage, I would clean this place out.
