Recharge Medical and Day Spa

Ling was incredible! I always complain about my back pain because apparently I have «knots» or pressure point due to stress. She gave me a back massage and it was just immaculate. My back pain went away. Definitely worth it.

so happy to re-​discover this place! i had come a few years back from some massages and facials/​mani pedi, but was into union st. for a while for spa days. i found an old gift certificate, and booked a facial and mani/​pedi for some old fashioned pampering.
you’re greeted and immediately offer tea or water, and the sitting area is very clean and tranquil. being on california street, i think its awesome that you can step into the spa and forget everything happening outside. i got the facial with danny, who was sooo professional and gentle, and truly enjoyed what he was doing! you can hear that he was passionate about his work and his clients, and i think that’s rare and awesome. ling’s mani pedi was also great! they dont have as many colors as your typical nail salon, but they carry chanel and dont charge extra, which is really cool. i got a deep plum on my nails and pink on my toes, and am super duper happy with both colors!
honestly this place is great. will be back in 6 weeks for another facial with danny! thanks for an amazing spa day! prices are rather reasonable and because it’s a doctor’s clinic as well, their products are great and results-​driven!

I love coming here! I get Botox and my Lips done. I feel like Dr. NGYUEN is straight forward and explains everything. He makes the procedures easy. Sometimes I pop in and get them done on my lunch. I’m 31 and get Botox as a preventative. I feel like I look natural. He answers my questions about prices and what to expect. I also love that you can earn points from Botox the company as well as the spa. The most important thing is that I look natural and can move my forehead. My friend goes here too and she looks amazing! I thought she was in her late twenties (shes my age in reality) and she finally told me her secret. That’s how I ended up here! I also love B12 shots! It’s easy to get an appointment too. Other places I tried going to were telling me I had to wait 1 month or more! I can always get an appointment with in a few days. The staff is friendly too!

Oh Danny boy, I love you so. (And you too, Ling!) Recharge is my favorite nail place in the Bay Area.

All my stress evaporates when I walk through the doors of Recharge Spa. It’s the kind of place that’s more than just a «nail salon.» It’s where I take my friends when we want to walk in like Solange and leave like Beyonce. I’ve gone to Recharge on a regular day «just because,» and I’ve gone before attending black-​tie events. Same amazing results.
Prices are not cheap, but they’re definitely reasonable considering what you get– total spa ambiance, mini-​massage, and Danny, who is so charming and radiates instant-​bestie status.

If you need the immigration medical examination, do yourself a favor and make an appointment with Dr. Philippe Nguyen. He took the time to explain us the process and answer our questions, we received our immunizations and all the documents in just 2 days.

I used Recharge for their USCIS medical testing. They did their work fine and I was able to get an appointment quickly. They did coordinate with my Canadian doctor to ensure that I had all of my shots. The doctor is straightforward and quick.
For me, they lost points because they were a bit disorganized and lost our paperwork. They reproduced it with no problem but it took almost an hour of just waiting in their lobby, waiting for them to communicate to each other so they can understand the situation.
It’s also important to note that they do not take medical insurance or FSA.

This review is for the amazing Danny! I’ve recently starting going to him for facials and he’s fantastic. My skin glows for weeks after he works his magic.

Well – I’m one of those OCD kind of people when it comes to cleanliness of instruments used on my person and can report that Recharge follows the best protocols. I now have had two pedicures there and not only are my toes happy, they remain happy for at least three weeks. Go visit Ling – she is fabulous!

Recharge was extremely well run and efficient and makes you feel very comfortable and taken care of the second you walk in the door. They offer you tea or water while you wait and provide amenities in their clean bathroom. The staff is very friendly and the doctor is efficient while listening to your concerns. You can tell he is well educated in what he does.
They were also incredibly accommodating with my schedule for booking two appointments last minute.
They offer extensive services and are very reasonably priced for a medical spa.
I’d highly recommend them!

Still loyal to Recharge. I admittedly do go to other establishments for quick fixes and because I like to try new places for variety, but when I want quality treatment, I still trust the staff at Recharge. I know that they sterilize their equipment. I trust that they put my safety and comfort first.
I have gone to Recharge for over 8 years and I have seen the business and the Bay Area change. I see the challenges of increased competition and budget minded individuals, but Recharge does fill a niche.
I love Danny. I always have and always will because, he is a calming presence when everything is chaotic in my life. I escape and am treated like a princess for an hour or more. I feel special and I love the feeling when I am beat down by the hectic pace of work.
Dr. Phil Nguyen is a great doctor. He is my primary care physician and he is extremely trustworthy. He listens carefully to my needs and issues. He prioritizes treatment and steers me away from procedures that I don’t need. He takes time to carefully explain things to me. He is approachable and extremely professional. He goes to medical conferences and stays up to date on current practices for both cosmetic and internal medicine.
Recently, I have also used their travel immunization services. He and his staff were so very accommodating and helpful when I was trying to figure out vaccinations and medicines needed for an ex US trip planned within a month of departure!
Recharge is like family and a home away from home. I hope that they continue to prove it to everyone in the neighborhood!

During my Sept 2013 office visit Dr. Nguyen recommended his current promotion to me, and pointed out that it came with «a $ 50.00 Visa debit card». It was a great incentive to try his new product. Dr. Nguyen warned me that it would take a long time for the Visa card to arrive in the mail. The product wore off in less than 5 weeks! I consoled myself with the thought of the $ 50.00 Visa card coming my way. (Otherwise the «promotion» that lasted 4 weeks was an absolute rip-​off.)
The Visa card arrived in late December 2013. The card’s expiration date was marked as MAR 31 2014. I registered the card online and looked through the pamphlet it came with. I put the card in my wallet with a sticky note reminding me to use it before it expired.
I tried to use the card in a store and it was not honored. At home I checked online to make sure I’d registered it correctly. I had. I tried to use it in another store. It didn’t work there either. The card didn’t even work at Walgreens; it didn’t work anywhere. I called the 800 number on the card and the operator explained to me that it was not a real Visa debit card, it was more like a «coupon» for future dermatological services only good at a participating vendor. I was to find a participating vendor by going to a special website. I wrote down the instructions, following them to a T. I found 3 offices in San Francisco who honored the «promotion,» but none offered services I was interested in. No one on the list offered anything $ 50.00 or below.
I wrote (an email) to Dr. Nguyen and asked that he find a solution for this fake Visa debit card. I told him that I would not have purchased his promotion if he’d told me I was merely getting a $ 50 coupon for future services, (and not even from his office — from a Dr. I had no experience with.) I asked for him to make this good with me. Dr. Nguyen did not answer my email.
Today I phoned Dr. Nguyen’s office and explained the situation to the staffer who answered. I asked to speak with Dr. Nguyen but he was unavailable. The staff took my information and offered to call me back. He did and it was all bad news. I was offered a $ 50 discount on future services at Recharge Medical & Day Spa.
I told him that I would not be appropriate nor satisfying to me to have to spend more money, especially since I hadn’t received anything of value for the $ 90 I’ve already spent on this bogus «treatment» and the fake Visa debit card already. The staff person was not sympathetic and several times offered a «sorry» and $ 50 off of more treatments.
[Dr. Nguyen’s staffer just phoned again and condescendingly explained how that, even though he wasn’t there the day I purchased the «promotion»: he’s sure that Dr. Nguyen explained that the Visa Debit card was not for use «anywhere» and that if I’d only read the information that came with the card I would have known that also.]
[The only point the bogus Visa debit card pamphlet made to me was that I could not go to an ATM and extract $ 50 cash, and that I could not opt of of them selling my purchase history. I will copy and upload the material so you can judge for yourself.]
The patient/​doctor relationship involves trust and respect. I trusted Dr. Nguyen to sell me what he said he was selling me. He got paid right away but I didn’t get what I paid for, even after waiting many months. Dr. Nguyen disrespects me by thinking its fair for me to pay for something that I didn’t expect, and that anyone would be disappointed with. At this time I am concerned that Dr. Nguyen knew all along that someday I would eventually figure out that his «promotional» Visa debit card was really only a fake coupon. Dr. Nguyen does not care today that I am unhappy about paying him for services that I did not receive.
Perhaps Dr. Nguyen does not understand that sometimes people consult Unilocal listings before choosing a provider?
It is not possible for me to recommend Dr. Nguyen or his services to you.

There are certain people in the service industry that you meet, that you adore, that you become unswervingly loyal to. Once you find «your guy» you know that you’re just done looking. In Phoenix I would always go to Scottsdale Airport Autocare for my car. In San Diego you couldn’t keep me away from brunch at Hash House a Gogo. In LA I spent 99% of my disposable income at The Gendarmerie Spa with no regrets.
Now, in San Francisco, I found my day spa, and my guy (Danny).
The waxing service was a tie for first place with my other guy in the Financial District, the mani/​pedi was by far the best I’ve had in NorCal, and the facial is by far the best I’ve had in NorCal.
Highly, highly recommend!

I came here once with my friend Jasmine cause we were bored and decided to spend some money. I’ll get to the point; the place is clean, relaxing, the doctor is professional, and prices reasonable.

Successful health spa with pretty many services. I have been here quite a few times for their different services and always left happy and pampered. Spa is very clean, smells good and staff is very welcoming.
I definitely recommend Recharge to someone looking for body services:)

The receptionist was cold when I called and when I arrived. Since this is a spa, I suggest working on warming up the welcome committee.

I’m still suffering from the ramifications of my service.
I scheduled a chemical peel. The practitioner offered to preform a complimentary microdermabrasion due to being a first time client. He proceeded on to the chemical peel, which turned out to be a HANNIBAL LECTER style peel.
The two areas the microdermabrasion was placed sizzled away and became open sores which eventually were infected.
Police came to recharge to seek proof of licensing which they could not provide.
Apparently their license was forgotten in their pants pockets.
I was recommended to go to the Emergency room which I did.
As I said my nightmare continues
Please save yourselves the distress and do not come here.

I came here to give my best friend a surprise birthday spa date, signed her up for a facial. I forgot that I signed us both up for a facial and had already done my makeup for the day so they opted to give me a hand massage or foot leg massage. Instead, I asked to switch it for a manicure instead while my best friend got an express facial.
I personally enjoyed my manicure with Danny, which included a hand massage and a shoulder massage. He gave me advice on nail care and how to keep my nails healthy.
My best friend said her facial was good, but felt rushed and wasn’t sure if it was because we were a few minutes late or because the facial specialist really wanted to go home.
I did get to use my Spa Finder gift card and they gave me a special gift certificate to use on my next visit! So I will return for sure.

Horrible Waxing Burns
I came in yesterday (note: hesitantly, after getting a lousy massage here earlier — I live down the street, and it was convenient). I travel a lot and got behind on my waxing, so booked an appointment the same day. Big mistake. I came in and the waxer rushed me into the room and started working on me before we could go over what I wanted him to do. I told him I had sensitive skin, but he brushed it off and began up-​selling me on a facial package. Before I could say anything, SCALDING WAX was all over my face! To add insult to injury, he kept putting more hot wax on already waxed areas. This is not only a sign of incompetence, but of GROSS NEGLIGENCE.
When I got home, I had patches of inflamed red skin all over my face, and later spent the night tending to BLISTERS. He burned my skin so terribly, I got BLISTERS — that takes effort and a certain kind of idiocy. So, now Im on my way to the dermatologist in hopes that they can help. BEWARE of this place, and safe yourself the trauma.

I got a Lifebooker deal for Recharge Spa’s essential mani and cream foot pedi. I forget how much I paid for it, but I’m sure it was much less than the $ 75 ticket price. I must say my mani-​pedi experience at Recharge Spa was the most eccentric one yet.
First, the spa is located on California Street, on a block with several other salons. The door opens into a reception area that is dim and isn’t very spa or salon like at all. No one greeted me at first so I was very confused. It seems like the space is also used as a doctor’s office since there were people filling out forms and such. I didn’t see any magazines to bide my time until they were ready for me.
Before they started my mani-​pedi, they had me read over a consent form and sign it. I’ve never had to do this at a nail salon before. I don’t know exactly how I feel about it because on one hand, it does list their «sanitary» practices, but on the other, it’s kind of unnecesssary, since you can’t verify their sanitary practices anyway.
The «salon» area is basically behind a curtain from the reception area. There are 3 – 4 black leather recline chairs. The space was very narrow and dim, much like the reception area. There’s a closet in the corner where they keep their towel warmers and packaged tools. Overall, my impression of the interior of the salon is dingy.
But despite the initial impression, the mani-​pedi itself was very good, probably one of the best I’ve had. The cream foot pedi is a must-​get. My lady was so thorough with everything, from cleaning, to filing, to buffing, to the massage. The cream part is basically a paraffin dip, followed by a very extensive foot massage. The scrub was also very extensive. I feel like she sloughed off 5 years worth of dead skin! My feet feel so smooth and soft!
The essential mani is just a regular mani. It was interesting that my lady decided to do the lotion & massage after she put the polish on. It was a little awkward having the mani done while doing the pedi, because my legs would move and that made my hands move.
Overall, the service at Recharge Spa is incredible. They really take the time to take care of all the little details. I didn’t feel rushed at all. They’re by appointment so they definitely leave enough time between you and the next person. You don’t have to worry about whether they’ll do a good job. I’d definitely come back here for the pedicure because I don’t think I can get that level of service just anywhere.
