Rocko’s Ice Cream Tacos

Love Rocko’s! Had a blast eating them at Outside Lands. My fave is the frozen banana with peanut butter AND white chocolate. Yummmm-​o

Tastes alright, but not worth it. At an Off The Grid food truck gathering, we were looking for something sweet after dinner. We ordered an espresso ice cream, dark chocolate dipped taco. I think it took longer to receive after ordering than it did to eat with my boyfriend. Flavor was average.
Might return if it’s convenient, but I’m not wild about it.

I was bummed that I couldn’t try Rocko’s Ice Cream Tacos when they were at Outside Lands this year, but was very jazzed when I saw their stand at Off the Grid Fort Mason last Friday!
My boyfriend and I had such a hard time choosing what combo of ice cream/​dip/​toppings we wanted because they all sounded so good! Would it be espresso and dark chocolate? Vanilla and peanut butter? Or any of the other delicious combos you can make?!
We settled on:
–Pumpkin ice cream with milk chocolate dip
–Salted caramel ice cream with dark chocolate dip and toffee bits
The best by far was the pumpkin and milk chocolate! I was impressed with my choice (the salted caramel concoction) but found myself begging the bf for bites of his (CRAIG DOESN’T SHARE FOOD! Channeling his inner Joey from Friends).
I might be trekking to Off the Grid more often if I can get my choco taco fix! You best get down here and try it yourself before I eat allllll the ice cream tacos!

It is true. They are small in size for the price $ 4 (additional for toppings).
You can choose flavors! and toppings.
But the girls were friendly and fast.
I loved the taste of the taco and enjoyed it.
Personally, I do feel it is worth it.

Ok, so that’s a little unfair, so I will elaborate. Let’s take a quick look at the picture I posted of said banana. Does it REALLY look like a banana when you first see it? No? Then congratulations! You’re a normal, horny American. I felt weird eating it and enjoying it at the same time.
Anyway, if you can get past the phallic-​shape of the banana, it is actually one of the BEST frozen bananas you will eat!
Since the name mentions an ice cream taco, I guess I better talk about that, too…
Oh shit, wait. I get it now! You have these bananas shaped like… you know what. And then you have these «tacos.» BRILLIANT!!!
Ok, in the off-​chance that it was just coincidence, I will continue talking about the actual ice cream tacos. I had them at an Off The Grid event with a bunch of other trucks. These guys were at the end making custom-​made tacos. You could choose the ice cream flavor, the chocolate, and the toppings. I went with the standard vanilla and white chocolate. There was nothing standard about the flavor. The combination of fresh made taco-​shaped waffles, organic ice cream, and creamy white chocolate was as perfect as you can get when it comes to ice cream. While they’re on the small side, the flavor was big! I think I’d get 2 next time though.
If it wasn’t coincidence… BRILLIANT!!!

The best ice cream tacos I have ever eaten, and the toppings take this treat over that top! Simple superb dark chocolate, milk chocolate or white chocolate toppings are dipped in liquid nitrogen to freeze them instantly so you get to enjoy a nice tasty shell as you bite through it. You really have to try this truck, the combo of the rich ice cream and decadent toppings are simply luxuries and satisfying to me.
The service is spectacular, I am always greeted with the most charing smile from a sincerely happy person, which also is worth visiting this truck for, she takes order lightning quick and and turns around a perfectly executed order just as fast. Simply superb service that is unmatched by anyone else.
I love enjoying this truck every time they come to the Off The Grid in Palo Alto, look for them, its worth it.

$ 6 for an ice cream taco is expensive, considering its size.
I tried the salty caramel dipped in dark chocolate and mint chip also dipped in dark chocolate. Both are tasty, but not for $ 6
I should’ve walked to the Humphry slocombe stand 5 minutes away.

I came across Rocko’s booth at the Los Altos Art Festival. I was curious about ice cream tacos and so I got one with peach ice cream in dark chocolate with almonds. It rocked! I love the concept and it was so tasty. The ice cream was smooth and it was super easy to hold and eat with the taco shape waffle. The frozen dark chocolate and almond topping added crunch. It was just a little too small… I guess I couldn’t get enough of it! LOL!

My friends and I stumbled upon Rocko’s at the Los Altos Art and Wine Festival and I ended up getting the frozen banana dipped in milk chocolate with pistachios for $ 2.50! I like that they had different types of toppings besides the ordinary peanuts on a frozen banana (almonds, pistachios, and pretzels). The ladies were very friendly and helpful when I was deciding what I want. I’m definitely going to come by again just to try out the different dips and toppings!

I just had to try this because it was so different than any of the other trucks. I would really recommend eating it with a fork because it’s messy!
The ice cream was a little different than other ice cream’s that I’ve had, I’m sure that the flash freezing process affects it a bit.

SO GOOD! Saw this place when I was at OTG: Fort Mason. ice cream tacos? How can I say no?
Well I would only say no if the price was ridiculous but it said $ 3.25 which was aiiiiiite. I think after tax and stuff it was more like $ 4 but I’m still thinking about it and salivating. which means it was worth it! Much better than what I expected (definitely not a sub-​par soggy and flat Choco taco. this is some good ish!!)
I got a taco with salted caramel ice cream and dark chocolate dip.
With ice cream sandwiches (like CREAM), I hate when the ice cream slips from the cookie. I was kinda scared it would be like that with the taco, but not at all!
Overall: I shared with a friend and we got at least 4 bites in each, so it was worth it! Definitely not a small pathetic taco :)
Taco (waffle): It was quite sturdy and the taco portion was crisp and and of perfect thickness and crunch.
Dip: There was also enough dark chocolate dip on the waffle where I was actually able to feel and taste the richness and creaminess of the chocolate with the ice cream. Ice Ice cream: There’s actually a hefty amount of ice cream in here. The salted caramel was delicious :) not too sweet nor salty. The texture was good as well, didn’t melt too fast and wasn’t watery or super hard, or airy.
I WANT MOAR!

This review is for the Off the Gird, Fort Mason tent. At first, I was really skeptical about trying Rocko’s. I’ve heard a lot of bad things about «Ice Cream Tacos.“However, I wanted to give it a try because i was looking for a snack that would fill me up at Off the Grid that wasn’t «overpriced.» For $ 4, I got the mint chip ice cream taco with milk chocolate. To clear things up, I’ve had liquid nitrogen ice-​cream before. Even though it looks cool, it honestly tastes the same as normal ice cream. The portion size seemed pretty okay for what I paid for, but …
I was pretty disappointed in the taste and experience. First off, the ice cream wasn’t bad. It tasted as good as I would have hoped for. However, if I wanted just ice cream, I could have gone some where else… (bi-​rite). I wanted the experience of the taco as well. I would have imagined it to be ice cream within an ice cream (or crunchy, sugary type shell). However, the «shell» didn’t even taste like anything! It just tasted like powder, a placeholder for the ice cream.
That was seriously a downer, however I won’t rate this place down because the ice cream was good. Please make the shell better!

This food truck is pretty cool (literally I guess)! It’s a unique alternative to the many cupcake and ice cream trucks at food truck events. I got the salty caramel taco dipped in milk chocolate. I like that you can add more than one dip if you want. I also think it’s cool how they dip your taco in liquid nitrogen to keep everything cool and frozen!
The taco was pretty good. I didn’t really taste a salty caramel flavor in the ice cream though. To me, it just kind of tasted like milk? That sounds strange but it wasn’t bad. The milk chocolate dip was delicious! I am a lover of milk chocolate and this was perfectly creamy and chocolatey. The waffle shell was pretty good as well. It’s a bit sweet and has a little bit of flavor. It wasn’t soggy at all, nor was it so hard and crunchy that it just fell apart after bites. The texture was perfect!
Next time you see this truck, definitely check it out! Service is fast and good and you have many options to customize your ice cream taco!

I’ve only ever gotten these at food truck festival events. They are seriously like little bite of heaven. Nice variety of flavors to choose from and you can choose the topping (s) you would like. Although the lines get pretty long, they do move really fast.
When the lines get really out of hand, they will have a cart to the side of pre-​made flavor combinations to choose from, which really helps speed up the line.
They are also decently sized, although lean towards the smaller end. Wish they were just a tad bigger: p

I got the chance to try Rockos Taco at a Dreamworks party. It was a really fun concept. They had a variety of ice cream to choose from, then you get to chose a dip. I did salty caramel dipped in dark chocolate. My husband opted for espresso dipped in dark chocolate. They fill a waffle cone with your choice of ice cream. Then they dip it in your choice of flavor and freeze it with nitro. Both of our choices were good. I’ve had better ice cream but the whole concept was a lot of fun to try.

I have found my frozen banana stand — with dark chocolate dip cooled with liquid nitrogen. You can’t really get any better than this. Next time, I’ll try the ice cream taco!

It’s sad when a place can’t make a decent taco.
Heck, I’m a horrible cook and I can make a better taco than this place.
IN FACT, given that this was an ice cream taco, I too could have taken a waffle and shoved store bought ice cream into it and it would have been better than this soggy, bland vanilla thing you call an ice cream taco.

That’s right! They’re super expensive!!! I think it was between $ 3 – 4 for each taco and each taco was tiny. Fit in my palm and my palm is tiny.
I tried the mint chocolate taco dipped in dark chocolate. Organic ice cream tacos come at a high price but that little tiny baby taco was definitely delightful. It wasn’t too sweet and it was freshly dipped into the dark chocolate. The dark chocolate formed a hard shell on the outside of the taco and really sealed in all of the deliciousness. Their other flavors include strawberry, chocolate, vanilla and salty caramel. Pretty standard flavors (yes I consider salty caramel to be a standard now).
And who is Rocko? I found out recently that Rocko is a dog. Because I love dogs, I am all for the idea of a cute ice cream truck being named after one. Poor Rocko probably can’t eat this stuff but thank you Rocko for inspiring such delicious miniature handcrafted treats.

We met Lori and Rocko’s Ice Cream Tacos at the Sunnyvale Off-​the-​Grid. My first impression when seeing other customers get their tacos was that they were kind of small (the tacos, not the customers). After we had our fill from the other food trucks, though, we came back to get some ice cream tacos — the idea just sounded too fun not to try.
Let me tell you — these things are GOOD. There’s an assortment of flavors you can choose for the ice cream and dip, and I got vanilla with white chocolate. The fresh waffle shell was just the right texture — not so crunchy that it shatters into a million pieces at first bite, but also not soggy or stale. Like I said, just right.
The ice cream itself was soft and creamy, and the dip shell was firm yet broke up easily with each bite. By the time I had finished my ice cream taco, I realized that it was just the perfect size — not too much that I couldn’t finish it, and not too small. In fact, of all the trucks out at Off-​the-​Grid, Rocko’s is probably the best value.
Definitely a fun experience — we’ll be back!
