Roger CPA Review

This is an honest unbiased review of Rogers CPA review course. There are pros and cons from my experience using his review course.
His engaging videos are topnotch and I love the way the information is presented in his books and lectures. (Unfortunately this is the only thing i enjoyed about his review)
Like most people, I learn by practicing and repetition of MCQ and that’s I passed my computer certs and life and health insurance cert in the past.
Unfortunately, Rogers MCQ and the actual exams MCQ were completely different on a whole different level. I was warned by many people in a CPA review blogroom I am currently in to NOT trust ROGERS mcq/​sims as his mcq/​sims are nowhere near the actual level of the MCQ/​SIMS of the actual exam. I think his mcq he wrote them himself. I studied and studied and practiced his mcq and sims only to realize the chatroom rumors were correct. The actual exams mcq and sims were nowhere in comparison to his style of questions and sadly speaking, I couldn’t pass neither FAR or AUD.
My subscription with ROGER has ended and again, sadly speaking I couldn’t pass anything on the exam so now I need to continue studying using a different review course. Again his lectures are awesome, and/​or maybe it’s because I’m not as smart as the other students who used ROGERS and passed on the first try, but I wish I could get at least half of my money back

His lectures are good for building knowledge on the material. There is a great function of playing his lectures at 2x the speed so you can get through the material quicker.
However, as most people are aware, the MCQ is where it really counts. I think Roger CPA has okay MCQs but something about it is not as effective. It seems that the explanations complicate things more than needed. And then it allows you to retry questions without affecting your score which I think is strange and impractical. In addition, the new books are now removing the hw/​study questions so if you buy the new books, you cant practice any questions without internet (even with the flashdrive). It just seems like the business is growing to become more of a nickle and dime corp, which I understand they need to profit, but it feels sleazy.

They seem to do a lot of server maintenance that ends up affecting your ability to access certain functions on their website (ie. not being able to access your Interactive Practice Questions). After many repeated calls to their tech support for the same/​similar issue, it appears the fix for this is to clear your cookies. But for those of us that don’t like to clear our cookies every damn week, this is pretty annoying and frustrating, considering it clears your cookies for other sites too (that you are always logged into). Another tip I’d recommend is to just use a separate browser that you don’t use often for your online account access. This way, you have this separate browser (Firefox/​Microsoft IE or Edge) dedicated to
and you can clear the cookies without hesitation or fear of clearing all your other saved stuff on your main browser (Chrome). Not too big of a deal now that I’ve come up with a better solution than what their IT was offering, but big enough for me to write another Unilocal review about it. But aside from their technical shortcomings, the materials are still better than Becker and whatever else is out there.
For Google Chrome users wondering how to delete all your site-​specific cookies all at once, as opposed to deleting your entire cache of saved info on the browser:

I made the choice to become an accounting student about 2 years ago with the goal of eventually passing the CPA exam. Once it was time to begin the actual process, I did some thorough research on which program would be right for me. I was initially going to go with Becker because that’s what plenty of people recommended and I also assumed it would be the best since it was the most expensive.
After I discovered Roger’s program, I decided to go with him because I knew I would need an engaging lecturer to help me stay motivated. Sure, some of the videos were hard to watch and boring at times but I doubt there’s anybody out there that can actually make some of the CPA exam topics interesting. Roger’s positive attitude definitely helped me study and I found myself pausing his videos often because his corny jokes would either make me laugh or cringe too hard.
There were some minor problems when I first purchased the program but all of them were handled professionally with great customer serivce. I ended up passing all 4 of the exams on my first try. While I probably should give credit to myself for hard work, I give a lot of credit to Roger for inspiring me to work hard.

Absolutely could not have passed the CPA exam without using Roger CPA Review! The information given is in small enough sections that you don’t feel overwhelmed, but still get enough information. Roger himself keeps the videos as entertaining as you can make a CPA review and his mnemonics and songs get stuck in your head (in a good way) during the test. The few times that I asked a question or needed help on something, the staff was always friendly and had an answer for my question. I have tried other CPA exam review courses, and Roger is the best by far.

I used Roger CPA Review in order to pass the CPA exam. Before his materials, I had a hard time grasping the material. I was overwhelmed and was not consistent with my study habits. Since I wasn’t consistent, I was not able to retain the information. Since I couldn’t retain the information, I couldn’t pass the exams.
One day, I was on youtube looking for encouragement and discovered his channel! I was shocked by how engaging his lectures were! I couldn’t believe he was so lively, funny, and informative. Other lectures I had watched in the past by other professors bored me to tears and were not detailed enough. Which did nothing, but waste my time.
With Roger CPA Review, his lectures are a significant part of the study material. That is where I learned the material, and then I drilled it into my memory by reading the text, doing MCQ’s, completing practice exams, and reviewing flash cards. It was an arduous process that simply took over my entire life. However, Roger made it a little easier.
Thanks to Roger, I am DONE!!!

I’m grateful for the Roger CPA Review team and all their efforts to keep their service personal and efficient. The staff has reached out to me on multiple occasions to help solve issues with software and product availability. Customer service gets a ⁵⁄₅ for me.
As far as Roger goes. he is basically the Kobe Bryant of CPA review course instructors. Or the Aziz Ansari of teaching accounting concepts. Or the Chuck Norris of keeping your attention for 25 hours of tax related lectures.
Basically, I mean he’s an entertainer, and he’s probably the best at what he does. Not only is he adept at breaking down complex course matter and putting it into digestible lessons, but he is captivating in a way that only a former dating show participant can be. My biggest concern when choosing a review course was finding someone who wouldn’t lose my interest after twenty minutes. As someone who has a difficult time focusing for long periods, I was thankful for Roger’s enthusiasm and vigor.
I passed all 4 parts on my first try. Thanks, Roger. You’re the man.

Roger is great! Lectures are entertaining and the books/​notes are written clearly and easy to follow (doesn’t feel like reading a textbook). I am studying for FAR right now (last one!) and I personally like that the longest lecture I’ve watched so far has been only 30 minutes. I tried Becker before Roger and Becker videos were HOURS LONG; no one can concentrate for multiple hours on boring material. Roger keeps the lectures short and interesting.
I agree that I have had some technical issues I wish I hadn’t, and the IT department hasn’t been the best (i.e. their solution is to tell me to clear the cookies in my browser history… ummm…that won’t make my flash drive work.) But, when I do get in contact with a live person, they are super helpful and fix any problem I’m having ASAP.
I think the most recent technical issues people have commented on are RESOLVED (at least they are in my case). If you read reviews from before the software update, 4 and 5 stars, consistently. Roger provides good quality material that will help you pass the CPA exam. If you study (with Roger), you will pass!!!

What can I say? Roger CPA Review is an amazing product! I passed all four parts of the exam on my first try over the last eight months, and I submitted my application for licensure last week to become a California CPA! A large portion of my success was attributable to Roger CPA Review. Some feedback:
PROS
1) Lectures are amazing. Watch Roger on youtube to get a feel for his style. Realize that YOU NEED ROGER to make studying hundreds of hours of accounting topics semi-​interesting. He tells some nutty stories in some of the sections, which helped me retain information an concepts by remembering his singing or dancing or jokes.
2) Course platform is easy to use, easy to see your progress in the lectures and highlight information you wish to go back to review again. You can also watch lectures on your phone (iPhone) which was a major plus for me.
3) Study schedules are a great tool to help keep you on track throughout your journey.
4) FAR cram course really helped me to pass FAR in my opinion. The other courses were sufficient on their own to help me pass, but FAR had so much information to cover that I felt the cram was necessary.
5) Books were a helpful addition to the course, but towards the end of each section I did not end up reading all the chapters, just focusing on lectures and practice problems.
CONS
1) The multiple choice question platform could be improved, by easily showing on your course dashboard what your progress is, areas of weakness, and overall correct questions. If the platform did have this, I never figured out how to use it. I ended up supplementing my studying with Ninja MCQ, because I found the online format more user friendly.
2) There were times when the website would be down for maintenance, which would result in my panicking because a test was a few days away. However, the Roger CPA Review team was usually quick to respond to my facebook messages or emails to resolve any issues.
Even with the two cons, I still give this product 5 stars. Invest in yourself and buy this course, IF YOU STUDY, YOU WILL PASS (but pass with Roger, because he’s awesome).

Great review. Helped me pass all the exams in about 11 months, with working and a wedding thrown in there. Already recommend it to other people.
They still need to work the bugs out of the new system though, but as expected with any new update.
Still a great program and would buy it all over again.

Let me start off with the good by saying that I really enjoyed listening to Roger’s online lectures as I relate to his sense of humor and it is refreshing to hear him crack jokes here and there over the monotony of other lectures I’ve heard. I’m currently studying for my FAR exam and I have a strong grasp of the lectures I’ve watched thus far.
Now with the frustrating part. My FAR exam is coming up soon and I set aside a large window of time this weekend to watch Roger’s lectures. I got to the library, got my laptop, book, headphones and WiFi connected and I was ready to go. Unfortunately, the website wasn’t.
Internet connection is fine, but the course outline page says The Page Cannot Be Found. I even tried loading other lectures I’ve already watched previously and they don’t show up either. In the slight chance that it might be my laptop or the WiFi, I tried using my phone using my 4G connection (which I’ve used many times in the past to watch other lectures) and all the lectures say that the Page Cannot Be Found.
I used their «Contact Us» link on their website to send them a message regarding the issue, but who knows when they’ll get back to me. I wanted to give them a call, but the hours are M-​F and I’m sitting here on a Saturday not knowing when this website issue will be fixed.
The worst part is that I was probably going to purchase Roger’s Cram Course today, but this website issue is forcing me to reconsider.

It’s actually a decent review course but ever since their website upgrade I can’t do anything. Now when I log on I can’t even access my sections. It wants me to purchase again. This is very frustrating and customer service won’t answer calls or emails. I’m thinking about taking this as a loss and just going with becker.

Although I have given this review 1 star I am going to try and stay as objective as possible so that I can give you an idea of the benefits and shortfalls of Roger CPA Review compared to Becker.
During my CPA tenure I have used Philly CPA Review (now Surgent Kolar) for BEC, Becker for REG and AUD. I chose to switch from Philly CPA review to Becker after the first exam because Philly CPA review was live. Staying up listening to an instructor talk after an 8-​hr workday is rough, however it did get me through the exam. I used Becker for the next two exams because the entire course was online making it easier to work around my schedule. Although Becker is effective, I don’t think there are too many people who would classify the 4 hour lectures as fun. I came across Roger which claimed a more enjoyable study experience and decided to give it a try for FAR.
When listening to Roger lectures there is a clear difference in the pacing of the course. The lectures are very easy listening and are more condensed than Becker. Roger’s charisma will keep you focused throughout his presentation.
When answering MCQs the explanation for each question is about a paragraph, compared to a sentence with Becker. Sometimes Rogers’s answers would benefit with a graphic representation rather than a written answer, but they are still easy to follow, for the most part.
The pricing of Roger is competitive as well. Roger is $ 600-​$ 700 a section. Becker is just over $ 1,000 a section.
However, during the lectures Roger does jump around a lot, and I do mean a lot. He will quickly jump from the whiteboard to a quick book references without giving any indication as to what page he is referring to. Personally I found it difficult to follow at some points. When working through the multiple choice I noticed that the questions are only available in random order. Although this seems like an odd point I believe it might be the biggest shortcoming of Roger. Becker groups questions with the same sub-​topic together. This means if you get a question wrong the next several are likely to feel like the same type of question so you can hone your skills. For example, if you go to Becker chapter 1 subtopic 1. The topic would have 50 MCQs. The first 10 would test topic X, the next 10 topic Y, and so on. With Roger the 50 MCQ would be in random order.
The next big issue I had come the weekend before my exam. I went to sign on and the site was down for «maintenance». That meant no access to questions or lectures. I contacted customer service in order to address the issue via phone call and email. I was told that in my specific situation they could fix the issue. The operator told me to delete all my cookies, history, ext. from my chrome then logon to Roger again. Deleting all of my cookies caused a slew of other problems unrelated to Roger software. After logging-​in again the website still did not work. I informed the operator it was still down. The operator told me, «It should work now».
To which I responded, «It still does not».
I was told that for my trouble my license would be extended an extra month. Although it is a nice courtesy, it lacks a certain utility since I have 10 remaining on the Roger license and 6 months until my first section expires. I then emailed a screenshot to customer service. I received a response back and told that the questions are now working. I would need to clear my cookies in order for the site to work. After an indeterminate amount of time I stopped cursing at my computer and decided to review my notes. It was then I realized that I could not reference the book because there I no index or glossary. An index and a glossary are features that are so basic to educational text I didn’t realize a book would be published without one. Especially for a text which is 1000+ pages. As a quick side bar, Becker books do have an index and glossary, as well as, an online text that is searchable.
The following Monday (the day after my exam) the website was online and fully functioning. At that point I had already rescheduled my exam and ordered different software. I emailed Roger customer service with my original NTS asking for a refund of whatever they thought would be fair for the unused portion of the software and/​or reimbursement for the rescheduling fee. To date I have not received a response.
To summarize, Roger has some great ideas in the approach to preparation for the CPA review. The software is competitively priced. The lectures are great. But the lack of customer services, the questionable functionality of the site, lack of index/​glossary for the book, unfriendly MCQ interface are shortfalls that are too large to be overlooked. In a few years when Roger works the kinks and changes their customer service model their software they may be the best ones out there, for now I recommend pay the extra couple hundred bucks and use someone else. It will save you a lot of frustration.

I cannot put to words how frustrating the last 3 weeks have been. They’re «upgrading» their website and so far nothing on this new website works.
I was unfortunate enough to purchase the prep course 3 weeks ago and within a few days I received an email saying they will be doing «upgrades» on their website. The 1^st weekend of their «upgrade» nothing worked.
1. My progress was reset every time I logged on.
2. My account wouldn’t show the link to my purchased section
3. If I was lucky enough to get routed to where I needed to go (I spent the entire weekend pressing refresh on my computer), I would get to a video that would lose sound 3 minutes in.
4. Their interactive practice questions used to have a link to the lecture now the cant be found.
5. The split screens don’t work and every time you email their help desk they reply with the generic «we’re working around the clock…» reply.
It’s now been 3 weeks, I don’t understand how they could be working around the clock and still not be able to address the basic issues (no sound on the video).
I finally emailed them asking for a refund because I really don’t know when their website upgrade would be complete, they replied saying I had 10 days to ask for a refund and since it’s been 15 they cant help me. What a joke, it’s only been 15 days because I was being patient with the so called upgrades.
I can’t imagine how I would feel if this was around my scheduled exam time, do yourself a favor and go with a more reliable prep course. These guys need to figure out a lot of kinks before they can be where their competitors are.
The video content, when it actually works, is short and straight to the point, which is why they aren’t a 1 star.

I just passed all 4 parts of the CPA exam while working full time and I couldn’t have done it without Roger’s online review course. I love his entertaining and full of energy lecture style. It made studying enjoyable even at 3 am. The mnemonics and the all the study aids (flashcards, cram, etc) were really helpful. I think I learned more from his course than in my years of college. The course definitely gives you what you need for the exams. Hands down THE BEST REVIEW COURSE out there! I highly recommend ROGER CPA REVIEW! Remember, «IF YOU STUDY, YOU WILL PASS!»

I took a live Roger class back when I first graduated, didn’t work out well, was way too distracted.
Then took a Becker class, also live, was probably the most boring thing I’ve ever had to endure in my life… I mean really if you ever want to have the closest experience of time coming to a complete stop, then take this class.
Finally I took Roger again online and actually committed (like his mnemonic) and can’t recommend it enough!!! His course has really evolved into something excellent!!!
I also used Ninja CPA review audio to listen to in the car. Recommend that as well in case you have a commute.

I have been using Roger CPA review for about my CPA studies for about 6 months now. I am an absolute fan of his teaching style with a lot of enthusiam etc. However, the only problem with them is that they do not update their materials regularly. Instead, they give a online link for recent changes for old students. Problems arise when even those updations are not updated! I was left comparing 3 different things in my hand and yet! not studying the latest material. However, when I reported this issue to their team, they simply asked me to purchase a new book! Later with a lot of pursuation etc was offered a free text book but ended up paying a Bomb for shipping :(So yes 3 stars for the Roger team and 5 stars to ROGER and his teaching style.

I took all four parts of the course online through Golden Gate University as final part of my Master of Accountancy program.
Roger is very engaging in his lectures. He’s got a great sense of humor, which is really helpful for those days that you don’t feel like studying. And believe me, there will be many of those days. The mnemonics are incredibly useful as well, especially in AUD and REG. He goes over SO many examples and homework problems that have been on prior exams.
His lecture book contains all of the heavily tested areas on the exam, but it is crucial that you check those updates. I took the AUD exam soon after the Clarity Updates went into effect in July 2013. Same situation happened when I took REG because income tax stuff changes annually. My book was filled with 2012 numbers, but I needed the 2013 numbers. He’s got a lot of nifty charts in his lecture book that summarize information very well.
The «Homework Book» is Wiley’s CPA review book and is the most important resource next to Wiley’s CD. Thousands of practice questions with very detailed answers. So crucial to testing you understanding. Wiley’s book has some reading material at the beginning of each section, but is probably overkill. Roger’s lecture book was sufficient for me. For the record, I read over Information Technology for BEC in Wiley’s book.
I used the CD only to gain access to Wiley’s online test bank. It’s another test bank with thousands of questions. You can take practice quizzes, simulate the real test, track your progress, and see which areas you are struggling and excelling at. The answers in the online test bank aren’t as detailed as the Wiley book though. Valuable nonetheless.
The lectures are broken up into 60 — 90 minute chunks, followed by reading, then reviewing the practice questions. Honestly, I don’t think 2 — 3 hours is enough for some topics, especially for those who haven’t had the exposure in school. I made sure to spend more time reviewing the less familiar topics.
Overall, the course is still excellent. Roger teaches you exactly what you will need to pass the CPA exam. His energy definitely got me through the 10 months of studying.

Roger was very helpful in getting through all my exams on the first try. He gives you the energy you don’t have and can’t quite muster and makes the seemingly impossible easy to memorize with a bunch of mnemonics (that still haven’t left my head over a year after).
The USB course is a must as it allows you to study wherever you happen to be.

I don’t know why more people haven’t reviewed this on Unilocal!Anyways, I’d say this review program is mid-​priced, if you sign up for their emails, they offer specials so I’d recommend waiting for a special until you purchase it.
I like his teaching style– and it comes in 3 formats: physical classroom setting, online, or on a USB drive. 100+ hours of lecture, accompanied with 300+ hrs of your own study time. I like how Roger breaks down the material and his mnemonics are very helpful. The program also includes Wiley homework books + online access to Wiley’s exam questions.
If you don’t want to spend over $ 2k on exam review materials, choose Roger.
I ordered the materials and they came within 3 days– very very fast! No problems at all with that.
