Saks Fifth Avenue

Sales of incredibly expensive shoes should not resemble racks like Ross store and I should not have seen Lanvin’s and Pradas thrown around by associates onto racks…
An older male associate was not polite, but at least did his job helping out with bringing different sizes of a pair of red Aquazura heels which were on sale…
I tried them on, and finally agreed on the size and asked for the other shoe to try on. As I did, I noticed the shoe which had been in display for a while, was so used up and bashed around, that the red had faded so much the pair looked like two different colors. I asked this older male if there was something he could do, a) find another pair same size b) clean them, c) bigger discount… None of the above happened since he shrugged and said it was the light that was changing the color.
Well, I work as a photographer shooting designer clothes, shoes and accessories, and trust me, the red was not altered by the light, but by wear and tear…
Someone else would have believed the older associate and walked off with a new bright red shoe and one that looked dead.

Worst service ever! No wonder they closed all their stores! I called to rectify since they could not help me while in store. I was on hold 10 minutes and no one ever answered. Last time I will shop there!

Kevin in this shoe department helped me find my first pair of Christian Louboutin heels.
He was opinionated in that I needed a «pink blush» type of nude, which is indeed true!
He was patient in the fact that I was slightly indecisive about flats or heels.
He was very kind to let me use their stock room to slip off my black tights so I can try the nude heels on and see how they literally complimented me.
Finally, he double checked the inventory for me and found that surprisingly, they were in stock.
Lastly, he gave me his cell so that I could text him about shoes. Ooo… danger!!!

I have never posted a review on Unilocal before, but my experience with Saks was so poor that I had to! I tried on a prom dress at this location and then decided to order it online. They told me if I ordered it online I could bring it back to the store and get complimentary alterations. When I received the dress in the mail, I went back in to the store, and the seamstress pinned it and everything. When we were checking out, they told us that the alteration would cost $ 250. The dress itself was already extremely expensive. So whatever, I paid the $ 250. They said it would be ready in a week and they would contact me. Three weeks later, I had not heard anything back so I called. They had had the dress ready for weeks, but no one notified me. Every person who helped me was rude and was never apologetic. Worst customer service!

I was in SF over the Christmas holidays, and I went into Saks to look for a new pair of shoes. While there I encountered a very helpful sales associate. He suggested another style when the ones I liked didn’t fit, and I ended up buying a great pair of Jimmy Choos. I cannot fault his service at all.
However my experience was greatly diminished when I was quite rudely ignored by a much older male sales associate in the shoe department. He stood right next to me rearranging shoes and didn’t say hello or even smile at me, and when I smiled at him he just snubbed me. Then he bent over backwards to greet the woman next to me who was carrying a chanel purse, (who incidentally ended up buying nothing)!

Daniel Skair from the women’s shoe department found me a pair of wait listed nude Chanel espadrilles! Need I say more? The phone transaction was quick and smooth. Within days my brand new shoes arrived at work. Thank you Daniel!

I feel a little weird posting a review with criticisms of Saks — it’s very «first world problems.» But still, I carry on.
I find some departments in this S5A to be fabulous — shoes, makeup, their contemporary department. Amazing and rival other upscale department stores, even here in SF. However, there are others that are really sparse. If you are looking for a handbag label and they don’t have a boutique (LV, Reed Krakoff, etc) then their selection is really limited. If I have to go to Neiman’s or Nordstrom for more selection than why go here?
Also, I feel like when I am going in with a specific need the salespeople are always trying to sell me a wardrobe. I’m looking for a dress and all of a sudden they are bringing me four tops and a pair of pants. It’s frustrating…
But I keep coming back because for some reason I’m a Saks loyalist and I love their online shopping and sometimes I have to make returns or exchanges. This is no flagship, but it is great for some things.

Horrible customer service in the woman’s shoe department! I got there right when the store opened today & went downstairs to find no one on the floor and then 5 minutes passed and the gentleman (white male) was literally on his phone. Never greeted me! When I wanted to try on a shoe I had to go up to him and wait for him to get off his phone! They ended up not having anything in my size SO I went to Neiman Marcus & spent $ 1,000 on some cute red bottoms. Saks isn’t all that!!!

They really need to add a «0 star» option on Unilocal!Because that’s what my most recent (horrendous) customer experience at Saks is worth.
Granted, this is not the first time I am treated with condescendence and/​or contempt there but this one tops it all.
on ⁹⁄₁₉ I was brilliantly talked into buying this $ 6000 fur coat by one of their very persuasive associates. I thought, well I am not sure of it, but I can certainly return it if I change my mind…
So on ¹⁰⁄₁₈ I went there to return my purchase along with a couple of other things I had also bought that day. They refused to accept the Fur Coat — The lady who helped me said that the coat had been worn and wasn’t in its original condition… I was floored. It had been in its dust bag the whole time AND still had all the tags attached, including the one in the font left panel of the coat — right in front. How could I have worn something with tags flying all around!!!
When I said that her comments was actually a reflection of the quality of garments they were selling (oops!!) since I didn’t wear the item, she got extremely rude. Because I didn’t want to start an argument when I had a lunch appointment 15 mins later, I told her to «forget it» (code name for «get out of my face») and I told her colleagues who had witnessed the whole incident that I was going to call the credit card to contest the charge as the item was in original condition and I was within the 30 day return policy.
So on the phone with Visa… 30 days forward, I was foolish enough to think that Visa would be successful at solving this issue but it’s still a problem. Visa got the lip service, buying time and making it even more difficult to return the coat 10 weeks later…
I called Josephine, the manager of the fur dpt. Took her 72 hours to return my call, but she eventually did and same story — She claims she hasn’t seen the piece so can not assert if what her associate said was valid, BUT now she says that it’s past the return period… Of course it is…, Had they done their job in the first place, we wouldn’t be in this situation!
At this point, I have filed a claim with the BBB, posted a few comments such as this one on various blogs (and will let Saks know once I get a chance to talk to them again that this is not over).
This place is supposed to be a high end department store. Their service should be first class. Instead, they are rude, treat their customer like «we work for them» and not the opposite!
I go to Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom quite often and I NEVER NEVER had this kind of experience. They are always pleasant wether you buy or return a garment, no matter who much $$ you spend.
So I hope to solve my problem and to NEVER set foot in that store ever again!

Granted I bought several things on sale from prada… The sales associates treated me like second class citizens. Two items did not have a box and one did not even have a dustbag. The blonde associate just dumped everything in one bag and I asked her to give me an extra bag since the items looked smushed. She actually charged me for two bags, since I paid for one item separately. She got so irritated when I asked her for a second bag. I called my girlfriend who bought a bag on sale right before I came in, and she did not receive a box either. I would’ve expected them to wrap up the items nicely or at least make it more presentable to take away, not just dumped in one bag. Every time I purchase a bag or wallet from similar brands, they will box it nicely for me and make sure the dust bag is included.
So if we purchase bags and wallets on sale, we wouldn’t be treated with the same care as someone purchasing on full-​price?
I think the prada associates at Saks needs customer service 101 lessons. Please learn from the associates from Neimans and Nordstroms everywhere.
Is it just me or are Saks associates extra snobby? I always felt the same way when in the NYC Saks store.

My husband, my son, and I walked in here to look at the purse selection, as I have been wanting to purchase a new purse. When we walked in, we walked in through the door that has the perfume counter. I immediately noticed how clean, beautiful, and inviting the store is compared to other department stores. As we walked around from purse designer to purse designer, all the staff was extremely pleasant. How refreshing! The store was not busy at all. I was surprised how bare it was on a early Sunday afternoon. I mentioned this to one of the staff members, and she said that most people shop in the late afternoon. Okay! Note to self: Shop early and you will have the store to yourself.
The lower level has the shoe department, and that is all. Which is enough to keep you busy for some time. My 5 year old was with us, and he was really good about just looking at the shoes and not touching them. But, the staff was watching us as if we were going to steal, or my son would touch the shoes. I also noticed that there were way too many staff members just walking around the shoe department. They must be on commission. I would not return to this shoe department. But, I would shop upstairs in the other departments.
In the end, I did not make a purchase. But, I would return.

I will not go into details of my family’s international Gucci gown incident (which took place on the weekend of my wedding) as that was due to a mighty joint effort of both, the NYC and the SF locations, but I will re-​tell the more recent story…
When I politely called to ask if the Phoebe Couture dress I fell in love with on
is available in store, I was treated like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. If you can picture that kind of treatment over the phone :-P The guy I was transferred to when asked what I’m looking for didn’t seem to get what I was looking for. Not only was I asked how much this «brand» (excuse me — DESIGNER, hello! I did say «couture» didn’t I?!) goes for, the so-​called customer service representative chuckled at me after I gave him a ballpark of $ 300-​$ 600 for a dress. «Oh honey,» he said, «we don’t carry that kind of merchandise here! And I have never heard of it in the first place».
«why not?» just to piss him off.
«ah, our merchandise is way above that range» followed by another unbelievable chuckle…
«but it’s on your website…»
«SO?! W-​E D-​O N-​O-​T C-​A-​R-​R-​Y T-​H-​A-​T AT T-​H-​I-​S L-​O-​C-​A-​T-​I-​O-​N!» (like I’m THAT kind of special, you know)
To that I say, my dear «honey», if you haven’t heard of Phoebe Couture, maybe you should reconsider working for the evening collection department (or whatever you call it at Snobs Fifth Avenue). I’m certain that many, in fact, have not heard of my beloved Phoebe Couture. And that’s OK. But these folks probably don’t put a roof over their heads selling evening wear. Please don’t be a rude flamboyant munchkin to someone that wants to spend half a gee at a store that pays your salary.

This is only for the Shoes Department particularly for Hitomi. I had bought a $ 2,000 pair of shoes. I had worn them once and I find that it is very tight and hurts the top of my foot. I tried to return it to Saks in San Francisco and Hitomi as well as the Supervisor said that they cannot do anything for me because it was already worn.
Hitomi was very rude about it, could not look at me in the eye because she was so upset that I was returning it. Horrible customer service!!! They act like it was being taken out of their paycheck and took it very personally.
I will never shop at Saks in San Francisco ever again. Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom has a much better customer service and their return policy is better as well. They do not make you feel uncomfortable returning or exchanging anything.

This is a review for Giorgio Armani Cosmetics, in Saks Fifth Avenue’s cosmetics department. Michael Acosta, the business manager for Armani Cosmetics, was very helpful to me, and took the time to demonstrate and apply their wonderful makeup products on me. I was very impressed with the product and the results, and ended up purchasing three items that I would not have, if I was not shown the proper way to apply them. I left Saks Fifth Avenue looking great, and ready to start my evening in San Francisco. I must also add, that my shopping experience in general, is always so much better here in the city, excellent customer service.

The only thing I like about this Saks department store are some things that other stores don’t have… BUT the store itself doesn’t really flow that well– not to mention the bond counter must have changed their workers bc now there are 2 rude like men who service the counter. Before I was always greeted w what at least felt like a genuine smile and offered a sample which made me purchase the fragrance later NOT ANYMORE and for that I will be going to Neiman or even nordstrom for that matter

The SFA store made this a fun happy hour event with cocktails, passed hors d’oeuvres and mini beauty treatments. How fun is that… and a goodie bag in Springy white with beauty product samples too!

I would give negative zero stars to Harry in perfumes if I could, and I would suggest customer service training or a new job, with a pushy, rude attitude like that, retail/​customer service is not for him. Conversation as follows.
Me: Is this unisex?
Harry: No, the term is sharing. Let me get the shower gel.
Me: No thank you. I like it but I am in rush to Chanel, they’re on boutique hours.
Harry: You might like this one, it has a citrus scent.
Me: That’s nice, I will come back, I am trying to get to the boutique before it closes.
Harry: Well I won’t be here after 6pm, and I won’t be here between 5pm-5.30pm.
Me: Umm, ok I will try to make it back, I have to go, the boutique will be closing soon.
Harry: Let me ring it up and you can pick it up.
Me: I’m trying to leave, I will come back.
Harry: WELL THAT’S NOT WORKING FOR ME.
Me: Ok, then I won’t be back.
I had no idea I shopped at Saks to serve and fit the schedules of their associates.
I received such wonderful service from Amit in the shoe salon, Harry in mens cologne, killed the whole experience for me.

Btw, I dress understated when I shop, I do not like to appear as a target. It should not matter what a person wears when they walk in your store, all customers no matter their attire should receive professionalism, you never know who they will refer or how often they will return to buy again. I will happily spend my money with Amit from the shoe salon, he is a doll, I have already recommended him, you know ladies drinks last night, tea today, we talk. You Harry, were advised to avoid.

I was just gonna look, I swear! Maybe try on a few heels, perhaps drool a bit (the leather on those Fendi flats is like buttah! Sorry, vegans, but they’re gorgeous), and then be out of there in time for happy-​hour drinks.
Well, things don’t always work out the way you plan.
Daniel, one of the expert shoe associates twisted my arm into buying a pair of magnificent Christian Louboutins. (I’m kidding, no twisting necessary, these slingbacks are stunning.) He was patient and helpful without being overbearing. He’s been in the biz for a while, so he knows what he’s talking about. I mean, the guy guessed my shoe size right off the bat (what? I think that’s impressive)! After trying on a few pairs, I fell for the ridiculously high (in price and stature) pair and was out of there a G lighter.
Am I mad? How can I be with these works of art on my feet?

I had seen some designers online that I was hoping to model in person, at their store but this was unfortunately not possible. They do not carry all the designers that one sees online
The girl helping me was more than willing to order the shoes for me & waive the shipping fee — but I can get free shipping myself from their site so there was no benefit of her ordering it for me…& I do not want to order something I have not tried on
Having been burned more than my fair share, from ordering shoes online & discovering it was the wrong size shoes, I really wanted to try on my choices before committing to a purchase… otherwise, I’m the same dilemma of having my credit card tied up while multiple sizes are going back & forth so I can determine which shoes work best for me…’cause it’s not like I’m going to go ahead & order 3 different shoe sizes at those prices!
…and if the shoe doesn’t even work out at all?
Also have to say I was a little put off by the false sense of urgency she was trying to create by telling me that a lot of times, their shoes sell out so I should really place my order right then & «get in the queue». I can appreciate her desire to close the sale but I am completely confident that those shoes will not sell out & I’ll be able to find them at another retailer, where I can actually try them on before making my decision — this designer is not exclusive to Saks
Looking around at their physical selection, I did see a nice array of Jimmy Choo, Louboutin, Prada, Valentino, Celine, Sophia Webster & a few others & guess not everyone can carry everything… so overall, have to say my experience was A-​OK but I was not wowed & Neimans’ selection is better
