Wes Pine is the blonde expert, I have never before gotten so many compliments on my hair color. And not only is he thoughtful and sweet, he’s a total professional and truly cares about what he’s doing. He is also beyond flexible and is always willing to work with my schedule in order to make time for me. I LOVE Wes and Sammy Oliver Salon!

What a cute place! Everyone is super nice and friendly! I have been seeing Krista for 3 years and she has now landed at Sammy Oliver. She has been doing my cut and color and does a fantastic job! I like to change up my look (ombré, lowlights, highlights, bangs, bobs, etc) often and she always has great recommendations for me and I fully trust her artistic hands! She is great with natural looking color. She also gives a great blow out if you are not feeling like doing your hair for a night out on the town! Great experience!

Last night, I used medicated shampoo for eczema (sans conditioner), did not style my hair, and slept with it damp. Just got out of bed on this Saturday afternoon, went for my daily morning pee, and have never felt more compelled to write this review. I looked in the mirror while in the bathroom and my hair is flawless.
My hair has only been styled by Curtis for about 3 years now. I first met him when he was at another salon, and I was a broke new-​grad in need of a haircut with a sweet Groupon deal in hand. I was secretly hoping that I’d hate my first cut, since the salon only let new clients redeem Groupon deals, which meant I’d have to pay full price thereafter. I was BLOWN away (pun intended)! I followed him to Sammy Oliver Salon and the rest is history in the making!
Even on days where I don’t even bother brushing my hair, my layers are perfect and give my hair the perfect bounce and shape. Now on days where I do give my hair some TLC, I could really give Kim Kardashian (and her extensions) a run for her money! … Well, at least I feel like I can, and that’s how any cut/​style should make you feel! ;P
Not convinced yet? Once I requested balayage that looked natural so that people wouldn’t notice, yet would notice that something was different. Now that I think about it, this is an absurd request. I basically asked for color that was noticeable and unnoticeable at the same time. Guess what, I got exactly what I wanted!
A lot of people ask me where I get my hair done. I’ve already sent my roommate, cousin’s girlfriend, and then my other roommate over. I might regret this when I start having difficulties scheduling appointments.
Sammy Oliver Salon itself is beautiful, clean and very accommodating. The talent they have here is second to none!

Sammy is amazing! I’ve been seeing her for about 2 and a half years now and she works miracles. I have long blonde hair and it was damaged and neglected before I started seeing her. Sammy helped me figure out how to style it to avoid further damage and worked with me to nurse it back to health. I started seeing results quickly and it just keeps getting better! :)
Sammy does my cut, color and keratin treatments. I am very picky about letting people cut my hair but I more than trust Sammy to do her thangggg and I couldn’t be happier with my color. I saw her today for highlights and a little trim and I can’t say enough about how happy I am –and how happy, healthy and smooth my hair is!
Do yourself a favor and see Sammy. Highly recommended!

About 3 months ago, I came in for a balayage appointment with West Pine. I am a natural blonde, and I left the salon with overly yellow and somewhat orange hair. In the 10+ years that I have been coloring my hair, I have never had such a horrible experience. I expressed my concerns at the end of the visit, and all I received was attitude. He took it very personally, and mumbled something about throwing some more color in my roots. From there, I just left the salon and did not go back to him for correction because it did not seem like he knew what had caused the problem or how to correct it. After moving to San Francisco, I was relying on these good Unilocal reviews. Maybe he can do other colors, but if you are blonde– I don’t recommend seeing him.

Wes Pine transformed my look and it wasn’t an easy feat. I have the thickest, most unruly, curly/​wavy head of hair around. Because of that, I’ve been hesitant to be bold with cut and color, until I came to Wes. I believe a big part of being a great stylist is being able to listen to your client’s needs and challenges, then coming up with a plan to tackle those. Wes does exactly that. He is also able to communicate that plan clearly, whether it’s a one step process that can be done in the same visit, or a transformation over a few visits. You get exactly what he explains, which in my opinion, is not often the case with many stylists.
I specifically used the word «look» above because the changes he made to my hair weren’t just the trendiest techniques. He did what was best for my type of hair, the shape of my face, and my lifestyle. It elevated my look and I couldn’t be happier! I feel like such a babe every time I leave his chair.

Sammy, I officially live in SF, so happy to be able to see you on a regular basis and hang out in your hip salon! Highlights, Balyage & Haircuts can’t wait to do it all you are the best, a true master!

This review is way too long overdue, as I have been going to Wes Pine for quite a few years now for color/​highlights and cut. First of all, he is a magician with high and low lights — they are so natural looking that people are surprised when I tell them I color my hair.
He also is great at asking questions and listening to your answers to make sure he is doing exactly what you want.
Finally, there he can be super flexible and there is always a fun but relaxed vibe in the salon.
I would definitely recommend Wes to anyone.

Love this salon. But mainly because Curtis is a color god! I always walk in with my split ends, dull color and tell Curtis «I don’t know — I trust you, do your thing» and a little while later, BAM, i walk out with fabulous hair.
I’m so happy I found Curtis because it’s so hard to trust your hair person when you’re burning a hole in your wallet for color that you don’t even end up liking. I’ve never had this issue with Curtis, and he always does an amazing job.
He’s also super accommodating with your schedule. I recently moved out of the city but still make the trip because I wouldn’t trust anyone else with my hair!
The salon is super cute as well, I love the colorful artwork on the walls and the lighting that comes in from sunny SF.

I wasn’t happy with my haircut so Curtis reached out to me through email and offered to fix my hair or give me a refund. I opted for the refund and he mailed me a check. Unheard of with salons and really nice of him!

Googled «Best Asian Hairstylist San Fran» and Wes Pine came up… and it’s 100% true! He effortlessly coaxed warm natural honey blonde out of my black hair two weeks before my wedding… I felt like a goddess. He’s collaborative, able to read client desire and reactions very readily and quickly understood my preferences and offered great input. Salon is graced with beautiful near floor to ceiling windows, sparkling clean and open white walled upper floor off Union Square. Great shampoo and massage with assistant, offered wine or coffee or water. Booking online a cinch. Pricey but worth every penny. Pic is styled in Hawaii for wedding but the cut and colour is Wes. Thank you for making me gorgeous for the a lifetime of memories!

Sammy Oliver is the queen of color. I never colored my hair before, but she recommended highlights to my dark brown hair that I now can’t live without… Even if I do only update them every 5 months, the color is great in between!
And she has a great eye, so now we’re at the point and I sit down and she cuts it as she pleases… Because I’m pleased EVERY time. If your stylist is just so-​so, stop wasting your time. Make an appointment with Sammy. And she’s on

I followed Curtis from another salon. Curtis is the BOMB for haircuts. He listens to what you want, provides suggestions, and goes to work with such diligence, care, detail and friendliness.
He always makes sure that I am happy during my appointment, and enjoying the time there, which I so love him for:)
I always joke with Curtis that I always tell the guys I date that, «No one touches my hair other than you and Curtis». Usually, the guy then replies back with the something like, «Wow, Curtis must be that good, but then again your hair looks great». Yep, my dearest fellow Unilocalers, need I say more? Even if I move away from SF, say Miami yo… I will still come back here for a haircut with Curtis (I mean SF is fab, and always great to visit!). Having had other hairstylists in the past, at my age, (umm…21, haha,!) that also says alot!
If you want your hair to look amazing, based on what you are looking for, then I strongly suggest Curtis. He also does awesome color too!
Oh, and this place sells the amazing R+Co hair products, that Curtis got me absolutely hooked on! Ask Curtis to show you the whole line when you are done with your haircut/​appointment, you won’t be sorry, it does such great things for your hair!

SO as all the reviews have already stated about him– WES is AMAZING. My hair is usually kept really long, up to my waist, but I needed a change. I am always tooo scared to go short, because in the past, when I got it cut, I hated it and cried when I saw the hair fall to the floor. This time I knew it was going to be different.
Making an appointment was easy, Wes said he had a cancellation that same day and scheduled me in. They make you feel very welcomed when you walk in and even gave me a glass of rose. MmMmm. Wes explained what he was going to do to retouch the color and how he was going to cut it. I told him I needed a cut that was low maintenance and he knew I was nervous of going short.
After good conversations and listening to good music playing in the background, He styled my hair and I loved it. I was impressed with the color (It was dyed hombre before and it was growing out to the point where it looked very «blah») but he softened the color and cut it exactly how I wanted it to be. I was very impressed with the outcome and am so glad I came to Wes. He also gave me tips on how to style it on a day to day basis.
I’m tired of going to different hairstylists and not being satisfied when stepping out. I know where I am going to be going for all of my hair needs. :) I have no other reason to go anywhere else. Oh, and Curtis is super nice too!

I’m a big fan of Sammy Oliver Salon! I’m a creature of habit and a loyal one at that, so I was heartbroken when my stylist of 10 years moved to N.Y. The salon is small but bright & airy, relaxed, and they carry R+Co products.
I had a botched dye job at a different salon, and needed color correction ASAP. I was impressed how quickly Curtis penciled me in. He listened to me, understood what my original color intent was, and he was hard at work to repair it. He was honest to say my color request may not be possible because how processed my hair was (no thanks to the other colorist). But he never gave up. I’m a brunette, looking to have fun as a redhead, and he delivered! I wish I had b4/​after pictures because he really did an amazing job. The second time, I decided while having red hair was fun, I’m classic brunette all the way. I requested a rich, espresso brown all over color, and BAM… gorgeous color! Thank you.
Now there were some things that made me not entirely thrilled, and I want to provide a thorough critique of my salon experience. So I say this with total respect and honesty.
No primer or conditioning crème was applied prior to styling. I thought the first time, he may have forgotten but the second time, I realized it may be a thing he doesn’t do. I have curly hair, and my hair needs some leave-​in treatment. Consequently, after leaving the salon, my blow out became a ginormous frizz ball because of the day’s rain; I had to put it in a ponytail.
One thing that was a big miss, was my ears had so much dye gunk inside & out, I was embarrassed when I saw it hours later. I’ve been shopping at Union Square with my hair in a ponytail not knowing I had brown ears! I’m sure plenty of store clerks at Saks had their giggles.
And one more minor input: I wasn’t asked how I wanted my hair styled. The default both times were straight, and that’s fine; but it was raining out, and thought leaving it curly would be great; however the dryer and brush was out in seconds, and poof… sexy big hair! I loved it, don’t get me wrong. But again without a primer & hairspray, my Victoria’s Secret bombshell hair turned into Roseanne Roseannadanna within 30 mins.
Curtis is talented. He’s incredibly personable, dedicated to his craft, and is undeniably dedicated to give his clients what they want; and I’m happy I found him. Like all new blossoming stylist-​client relationship, time and communication is key; and I look forward to future hair adventures at SO.

YES! Go see WES for HAIR! He really does care and always makes you feel welcome upon arriving to the salon, no matter how busy he is. Besides being super sweet and cool, Wes is a fabulous stylist, as I have frizzy, fine curly hair, so its hard to manage. i usually need layers to help tame the frizz.
He recommend the Keratin express treatment as well, which is great for my fine hair. I only get about 2 a year! They last fairly long and its way less $$ than the full keratin.
As far as cuts, he really pays attention to what I need.
Its really hard to find a good stylist who can not only recommend healthy products, but also makes you feel at ease at the moment you arrive. I love the ambiance of the salon, the background music is happy and lively, and the rest of the stylists are great.

I’ve gotten my hair cut and colored twice so far by Wes Pine. I found him based on all the excellent Unilocal reviews he has received. I have to say, my fellow Unilocalers are right! Wes is extremely talented with hair color, and each time I’ve left the salon looking radiant and have received a lot of compliments on my hair. Wes really understands what looks good on you, and he gives great suggestions if you’re unsure what to do with your hair. He is the master of highlights. He takes his time and doesn’t make you feel rushed. The salon space is beautiful, with some interesting art pieces on the walls. The salon manager, Megan, is super friendly too. I just wish it was a bit cheaper: P

A little over a year ago, my hair’s life changed for the better, thanks to Curtis Shepherd!
It all started when I was at work & my sister waltzed in, her confidence and energy through the roof, with her hair looking the BEST it ever has. She could not stop saying enough nice things about Curtis, as if they had been friends forever. Right as I got off work, I went straight to make an appointment for myself.
We started out with highlights, and over time we did a few bleach and tones, brown, darker brown with highlights, balayage/ombré…(he does it all!!) with allll of my mind changing, Curtis has never compromised the health of my hair. It took a bit of a process to go from my light blonde to brown and he has never let me leave unless I was happy & he was satisfied. It is nice to trust your hairstylist and know that they care! Even though I have moved 2 hours outside of San Francisco, I always come back to Curtis.
On top of that, I have never received so many compliments in public! I will never forget this one «That is the perfect ombré.»…enough said, it really was! (I have gone a bit of a rooty blonde since which is just as amazing)
Curtis is friendly, sweet, thorough… best color, cuts & blowouts… you will always leave feeling like a million bucks.
