San Francisco Tours

We highly recommend the San Francisco City Tour for a good overview of the sights of San Francisco.
We were 100 percent pleased — it was the most entertaining bus tour we’ve taken. A great way to become acquainted with a new city.
To begin with we were picked up at our hotel by the best looking tour bus around — a new gleaming black double decker bus with comfy seats, and big windows.
Our tour took us to all the major sights of San Francisco, like Fisherman’s Wharf, Ghirardelli Square, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Pacific Ocean, Twin Peaks, Chinatown, and much more. Stops were made at various sights with adequate time allowed to stretch our legs and take photos.
Our driver/​tour guide was a gem — extremely knowledgeable and entertaining with explanations of the sights. A bonus was his insights into life in S.F.
We absolutely loved the tour!

Having lived in the SF Bay Area for more years than I’m willing to admit to, I’ve been around the block, so to speak, with the SF touristy «stuff». That extends to Muir Woods, Pt Reyes, etc. So when I was surprised this last weekend with a family reunion (none of which have been to SF), I was resigned to joining said fam on an eight hour tour.
Well, I was QUITE pleasantly surprised. Granted, about 60% of what we covered over the day (GG Park, Muir Woods, Chinatown, Grace Cathedral, H&A) have been visited over and over (and over and over) again, I nonetheless learned quite a few new things on the tour. We hit an overlook called Muir Overlook that I’ve ridden by countless times, and much to my chagrin, I discovered. I’ve never taken the ferry from Sausilito to SF… again, much to my chagrin.
The driver was professional (i.e. when he decided he didn’t like the sound of the brakes, we got a new bus), and the tour guide, while incorrect on a couple of nit points, was beyond reproach on his knowledge of his subject — the SF Bay.
All and all, what was going to be a rather boring day turned into quite a good one. Kudos to SF Tours!

What a joke. There are a few tour packages for SF from different companies that broker packages and make reservations with the tour companies themselves and charge a higher fee for this service. Problem is this company doesn’t seem to care, take the time to check, and never gets back to you in a few minutes more like few hours. Let me really start by telling you the story, we book a package tour SF city/​Alcatraz package. With them picking us up at a hotel near the airport. The night before I call to double check my reservations and the girl (I usually say lady, but she screwed me) tells me you will be fine the bus will pick us up at 710am, meaning we had to wake up around 5am to be ready at the lobby bring you to the city and your city tour will start, then you will be dropped off at the Alcatraz ticket booth where you pick up your tickets to go to Alcatraz. Believe me I asked her four times ARE YOU SURE? Her comment, we are a very large booking company, just be there in the morning. Screwwwwed. I forgot to mention it was our 11 anniversary and the day before we saw fisherman’s wharf, pier 39, ghiradelli square. Back to the juicy stuff, the bus picks us up, we take the city tour, get dropped off at the Alcatraz booth and stand in line to pickup our tickets, keep in mind the time is about 1230pm, what, my name isn’t on the list, no credit card info, call the tour company to double check. All Alcatraz trips are sold out til Tuesday, it’s Sunday. I call three phone numbers, one Tower tours tells me we don’t handle the Alcatraz part.(keep in mind Tower tours is an excellent tour company they do the city tours, which you should book directly @
.) The other two numbers sound like different companies, different phone numbers, yet both have the exact same message/​recording. The message starts off with you are very important will get in touch with as soon as possible, all of our agents are currently handling other calls. Needless to say we didn’t get on our cruise, it was our last day, and the tour company doesn’t bring us back to the hotel til 530pm they only have one bus headed back at that time about ⁴¹⁄₂ hours from that time. We took a cab back to the hotel. To end this piece, they call me 4 hours later telling me we will cancel your credit charge for the Alcatraz tour as far as everything else sorry no manager here to listen to your complaint.
