Some friends and I ate with Satellite Republic at the Punchdown in Oakland. The portions were small, but the dishes were unique and very well done. I loved the flavors and how different each dish was from the next. I didn’t, by any stretch, dislike any of the dishes, but the ones that stood out to me the most were: — Imeretian Khachapuri, a flatbread stuffed with cheese and topped with a pepper sauce. It was greasy and flavorful, but thin enough that it didn’t feel heavy at all. — Yogurt with pickled chanterelles, shiso and sesame. My friends and I all ended licking our bowls clean on this one. I don’t think I’ve ever had mushrooms paired with yogurt… much less pickled mushrooms and yogurt. But it was tangy and sweet and a great combination. My one complaint is that after a 9 course, $ 50 dinner, I wasn’t quite full. I think if more of the courses(such as the lamb) had been served with flatbread, I would have walked out more sated. No complaints though, I’d much rather have small high-quality portions!
