Had my ’15 1290 Super Duke serviced at Scuderia today and I can’t imagine a more seamless and friendly motorcycle service experience. I called about 10 days ago and made the appointment, showed up this morning to drop it off, and received a call at 3pm letting me know it was done. They even offered to hold onto my helmet and gear so I wouldn’t have to lug it to the office. When I picked up the bike it was clean and tight.
I wish all of my service experiences in life were this professional and simple.

DO NOT PURCHASE FLY 150s FROM SCUDERIA (or elsewhere). This negative review is for the Fly 150 by Piaggio. Since Scuderia is the representative of that bike now, I have to review them to get to Piaggio. The Scuderia repair guys are nice.
I bought a 2016 Fly 150. I had a 2006 Fly 150 that I loved. I should have kept that one.
First, the bolts in the front brake assembly unscrewed at 350 miles and struck the fork while I was driving. The bike had to be towed.
Next, the top case I bought from the dealer was not a color match. It turns out this is a systemic problem at Vespa USA. The top case that should match my scooter doesn’t. A matching case cannot be purchased anywhere in the United States. Scuderia has indicated there is no expectation this will be fixed anytime soon, and no fixes have been proposed. I bought the bike in February. I called Vespa USA and they promised to get to the bottom of the issue and call me back. No call back and «message box full». Basically hiding under their desks.
Next, although the bike was shown in the showroom with two helmets under the seat, it turns out one regular size helmet will not fit. The sales guy feigned surprise at this. That really angered me. Of course he knew the trap I was falling into.
Finally, the 100 miles per gallon claim is flat out dishonest. I get about 70 miles to the tank. A tank holds 1.5 gallons, so about 45 miles per gallon. And by the way, when you put gas in, you will need to use your hand to hold the vapor sleeve back on the pump — it’s a 2016 bike but somehow the standard gas pump doesn’t fit.
This is a combination of a Vespa/​Piaggio USA problem and a Scuderia problem. Clearly Vespa/​Piaggio quality has tanked in recent years.

This review is several months overdue. This pathetic shop basically robbed me of $ 700.
I recently had problems with the starter on my KTM. Since I had previously gotten my scheduled maintenance at Scuderia, I assumed it would be fine bring my bike here. That was my first mistake.
I thoroughly explained the issue to the service technician, Matt, after getting it towed to the city. About three weeks later they called me back with what they thought was the issue: the starter needed to be rebuilt. They said that they shipped it to another shop in the city that rebuilds starters. Three weeks later, they call me and say that although they have the starter installed, the bike is still difficult to start. They suggested that I replace the starter clutch. I said order the part.
About week later, Scuderia calls me to tell me that my bike is ready. They also mention something very odd: they had spent 10 hours of labor on my bike, but would only be charging me for 3. I was a little confused, but nonetheless happy and grateful.
When I got there, I was rushing to get my bike back, so I paid right away (around ($ 700 with parts and labor) and went outside with Matt for a test start. This is where things went way downhill.
Matt turns the key and has to feather the throttle while holding the start button to get the bike to turn over. Even then, it takes about three seconds to start. I looked at Matt and asked him, «Is that normal?» His reply was, «Yeah, it’s just a dirtbike; keep it on a battery tender overnight and it will fire right up.» Although I was hesitant to take the bike back at this point, I needed it for transportation. I started the bike and rode off. That was my second mistake.
My bike is somewhat like a converted, dual sport dirtbike so there was some truth in what Matt was saying, but the electric start is the only starting method and always fired up fine before. I took his word nonetheless and it would cost me.
Two days later, when I was about to leave for work, I tried to start my bike at the house. The bike wouldn’t start. I was livid at this point, but I had no time to waste with Scuderia, so I took my bike to a different shop to get the issue resolved.
After getting my bike fixed once and for all at a different shop, I was told that the issue with my bike was that the auto decompression clutch had broke. I have a little knowledge of bikes, but needless to say I had no idea what an auto decompression clutch was. I did some research and found that it was a very common factory defect in my bike, one that would’ve been covered under warranty if I still had it!
Keep in mind that Scuderia is a KTM dealer and their shop specializes in KTM motorcycles. They have probably performed this exact job before, and still couldn’t manage to figure out the issue. I think cutting down the amount of time they charged me for was basically there way of saying, «Hey we couldn’t fix your issue, but we’re only going to charge you $ 700 instead of $ 1500.» Gee, thanks.
One star because they gave me a free keychain with a monkey on it. I am assuming it is representative of the dumb monkeys in the service department, who don’t know how to fix the bikes they specialize in.
I was a dumb kid who was excited to get his bike back — and I definitely learned a lesson from it. Don’t be like me — save yourself the headache of doing business with these people.

My review is on the customer service and follow thru. Came here with a serious intention to buy a Vespa. Pete, who seems so plucky and sprite on the phone pretends to be helpful, but any follow through on sales is a complete miss.
Typical car salesman behavior. If they don’t think they can make a buck off of you, you’re automatically ignored, shut down and shut out. Really unfortunate because I was willing to PAY CASH for the Vespa I wanted. They weren’t willing to work with me on a solid pricing option. Went to Mr. Scooter and bought the one I was looking for there.

THE SHORT: Careless mechanics nearly got me killed on the highway.
THE LONG: This happened last year. I hadn’t planned on posting a review instead opting to simply part ways with Scuderia but I was told by my biker friends that this was the responsible thing to do to potentially save other people serious injury or even death.
The rear shock of my 250 Scarabeo failed and shattered the air box. Scuderia had always been my go-​to place, so I brought it in for them to fix. On the night I picked it up, a twist of the throttle and my scooter barely moves before suddenly lurching forward and stalling. The mechanic nearby tells me to just open up the throttle when I take off. After that night, the scooter had a noticeable drop in performance, it had a random flat spot along the power band that would suddenly cause a drop power before picking back up and causing the bike to lurch and at times stall (once while in a turn). My scooter friends even confirmed this. So I took it back to the Scuderia repeatedly to have it checked out only to be told each time that the didn’t find anything wrong and the scooter handled just beautifully. Finally, I have up and waited to see if things worked out on their own. It never ran as well as it did originally but it was tolerable.
Flash forward a couple months later. I’m riding 55 mph on 280 during rush hour and I speed up to pass a car and I realize I cannot decelerate! In fact, even with the throttle off and the kill switch flipped, I’m still picking up speed and have to weave in and out of rush hour traffic at 80 mphs until I can find a place to pull over and grab enough brake to hold the scooter in place long enough to reach for the key to turn it off
The next day my mechanic friend and I take apart the scooter and we find that shards of plastic from my shattered air box had fallen into my carburetor and were making the butterfly valve behave erratically hence the initial loss in performance. It wasn’t until a 6″ chunk of plastic had fallen in and lodged the valve open completely, that the scooter became a death trap. (See Photos)
I think it the height of negligence that the mechanic didn’t bother to thoroughly clean and inspect the engine enough to even notice all the small shards or plastic, let alone a 6″ long chunk of plastic. I understand shit happens, but this whole situation could have been avoided if they would have just took the time check their work after I repeatedly informed of the scooter’s performance hit, instead of continuing to double-​down and deny there was anything wrong with my bike. I was told by a motorcycle mechanic familiar with Scuderia that the mechanics phone it in on the scooter repair because they would rather work on motorcycles since the engine is easier to get to thus take less time and effort.
If you have a scooter, avoid this place. Your life may depend on it.

Scuderia is as good as it gets. I’ve always had great interactions with all of the employees, the gear selection is top notch, and the shop is well maintained and run. What is great about Scuderia is how much it improves the motorcycle community by getting people together. The last two Ladies Nights that they have put one were absolutely fantastic. It allowed for all types of people to get together, connect, and have fun. Thank you so much for putting the Ladies Nights on, I really hope you all will keep on doing them!

Last month, Vespa SF closed shop and sold everything to Scuderia. As an owner of a Piaggio MP3, I was a bit concerned when a wiring problem resurfaced after my scooter shut down on the road. Vespa SF were the only specialists in town that knew this type scooter (it’s unlike anything else). Other repair shops won’t even touch them.
With a week’s notice, the Scuderia repair team had no training on Piaggio MP3’s, but took on the project. They were completely honest about learning as they went along. Unfortunately, a fixable incident happened in their care. The handling on these vehicles are very different than other scooters. They took full ownership and made it look better than new!
Now the team has a better understanding of the MP3’s. I would personally like to thank the manager, Mark Albertson, for his professionalism and accountability in handling the situation.
Additionally, as I was waiting for my repairs, I couldn’t help but see and hear how professional and friendly the sales team was on the floor. There is a sense friendliness, knowledge, community, and care with the whole company that resonates with their customers.

I bought my first bike (used) from Pete a couple weeks ago. Since I’ve only ridden a couple times before I was a little nervous to just get up and go on the road in sf– he went out of his way to walk me through every step and rode with me to work that afternoon to make sure I was set. Then he texted me the next morning to make sure I got home! A few days ago my bike ran into a little computer glitch and I couldn’t figure it out– I had it towed to the shop, unscheduled, this morning and both Pete and Mike (awesome mechanic!) took the time and gave their full support, despite their totally slammed repair shop, and made sure I got back on the road today! I’ve also spent some time in their gear shop and Pat (sales) gave me a fantastic lesson on riding in the city and on how to select the best gear for myself. The crew here is outstanding! Thank you all for such great service and support!

+ Unbelievable, world-​class customer service from Pete. The level of care he put into selling and informing me of my scooter (Vepsa GTS 300) was unreal and is as follows:
— Gave me his personal cell phone to answer any questions about buying my first scooter /​gear /​the process
— Answered all my questions in a very quick and hilarious manner when I texted him (who does that!?), over the course of many days
— Helped me and understood when my bank was being silly about sending the payment
— Gave me pro tips on gear, riding, and general scooter info
— Gave me a great tutorial for my first ride, how to take care of myself and more
— Even asked me to text him when I got home safe after my first ride.
— (Shop) They also have high quality gear at standard prices for any consumer
The level of care, professionalism, and wit that I encountered from Pete S was so above and beyond any service I’ve ever received, it is now my new gold standard of reviews. I cannot emphasis enough how welcome and well treated I felt during the entire process of buying my scooter with Pete. I will recommend all buyers I know for scooters to this man for life.

Great experience. I bought my first bike, a KTM RC 390, through Scuderia. I actually walked in very late on a Friday afternoon, only an hour before closing, thinking that an hour would be enough time to seal the deal. Turns out I was wrong — a dealership has to run credit checks with credit agencies around the city, get approved, fill out loads of forms, and discuss and choose warranty options. I started to hesitate and apologize for coming in so late — but Yulia and Dan at Scuderia were both super gracious and accommodating, emphasizing that it really was not a problem. Both of them are hospitable, nice people who kept in touch afterwards to make sure everything was good with insurance, make sure the bike was good, etc. As a new rider, I was scared about the prospect of riding my new bike home to Oakland across the bay bridge on a Friday night, but Dan delivered it for free the next day.
Great store. If you want a dealership with great service, and you like KTM, Aprilia and the other brands they carry, definitely choose them.

New ownership; sad end of a great Scuderia (ignore old reviews). A judge and a Bureau of Automotive Repair inspector concluded that they left my scooter dangerous (see photos) after charging me quite a lot for inspections and work.
This used to be a great local shop when Don & Crystal owned it, but not since it was sold! Now, customers’ time and safety are not as important as maximizing profit.
Scuderia is a very different business under the new ownership; the local flavor is gone, personal service and oversight by the owner is gone, and each department runs like a separate business. Communication fails between departments, service is sloppy, wrong parts are ordered, and a lot of mistakes are made. Hey, mistakes happen everywhere, but the real problem is that the management and owner refuse to be accountable. Profits are up — the owner even brags that he runs a more profitable shop than the previous owner — but my time and my safety don’t seem to matter.
It took a judge to convince Scuderia that their negligence caused me to be riding a dangerous scooter with a broken frame. Despite my paying them for a vehicle inspection prior to installing a new top box mount to the vehicle frame, they overlooked several breaks and cracks in the frame exactly where they attached new parts. The oversight was obvious, the service manager refused to fix it, the owner refused to be accountable, and in the end they even refused to pay the court judgment. It took months, and I eventually had to have the sheriff collect the judgment. The shop that did the welding repairs pointed out that Scuderia even used bolts in the wrong places when doing the installation. If I hadn’t noticed that the top box (which includes the passenger backrest) was coming detached, could easily have broken away, and my passenger would have fallen off the bike.
An inspector from the California Bureau of Automotive Repair reported:
— Scuderia West committed several regulatory violations
— Scuderia’s service manager (Mark) admitted that the broken vehicle frames are common on this vehicle
— Oxidation in photos from subsequent repairs indicated old damage that should have been noticed by Scuderia
— Scuderia’s invoices and documentation failed to meet regulatory standards (unclear, lack of documentation)
— He suggested that Scuderia compensate me based on their violations (they refused)
— He wrote: «It is important to note that consumers rely on professional dealerships to provide accurate and complete repairs to ensure their safety.»
This marks the sad end of a 20+ year relationship with what used to be a wonderful, owner-​run, local shop. It makes me sad, but they’ve gotten sloppy, unreliable, and unaccountable.
The service manager, Mark, got by under the previous owner’s management, but with this more autonomous role his inefficiency, volatility, and lack of accountability really shine. In court, Mark blamed his oversight on me (quite acerbically), saying that the problem was that I’m a difficult customer. That was almost as amusing as the photos of him riding motorcycles as a young man to substantiate his expertise, since he did some of the work on my scooter himself, despite my having paid mechanic rates. He went on to explain that he and others in the shop do mechanic work quite regularly when the mechanics are too busy.
Greg McCord is the owner of Scuderia, Marin Speed Shop, Ace Motorsports, and he recently shut down his solely owned Marin Taxi very suddenly, leaving 60 people out of work. His official address for NCGW, Inc. (Scuderia’s legal entity) is a home he owns in San Francisco, but he told me outright that he’s never in San Francisco. It took a lot of effort to get his name and contact him to try to resolve this. When I finally identified and reached him, he immediately went on the attack, falsely accusing me of several random things and threatening to expose me if I take legal action, and demanding that I stay out of his store; a bully approach he’s apparently developed to keep his money when anybody calls for accountability. Eventually, after a lot of unnecessary effort over a tiny fraction of his daily sales, when the court judgment was overdue, I called to ask when he’d be paying me. Greg insisted that he would not pay, claimed «we’re short on cash,» and demanded that I never contact him again. Then, after I sent a legal demand he emailed this: «In the spirit of good will and to hopefully resolve this matter Scuderia is prepared to offer you [a lot less than the court judgment].» Apparently he doesn’t know the meaning of goodwill.
IF YOU NEED SERVICE for any scooter or motorcycle (incl. Aprilia), there’s a great newer shop in town. Kent at MOTO GARAGE on Sagamore Street in SF is a rock star. It’s a small, local business, he has a lot of experience and expertise and a great reputation, he’s thorough and honest, he even does welding, and his rates are lower.

I needed a replacement helmet and found this place on Unilocal.The guy who helped me (wish I had gotten his name) was unbelievably helpful, so helpful that he sent me to a store a few blocks away because he said it carried the specific brand I was looking for. I thought it was an extremely professional and kind gesture, and left wishing I had known about the store sooner. I ended up leaving with a replacement rain cover for my scooter and will definitely be back for future scooter needs.

I recently bought a KTM 390 Duke from these guys and the service has been top notch! It was my first bike and they walked me through the whole process, helped me get the right gear and spent tons of time answering all of my questions. They’re my go to spot in SF and I would highly recommend them.

Unfortunately i was disappointed and will not use this shop in the future.
I’ve purchased 3 bikes under the previous ownership with great results and great value.
My most recent visit resulted in an out of state purchase on an 1190 adventure that was 3400 les with no dealer markup, set up or any other fees. yes it did cost 650 to ship so 13,200 plus 200 doc fee and CA DMV FEES and Ca tax.
I did not expect to get the full discount however i was made aware of a KTM rebate of nearly 3k and was hoping this store would share. I explained that i found cycle trader pricing from dealers at 3000 or more off MSRP and that i was a loyal customer having purchased 3 motorcycles in the last 6 years. Having been loyal they would only offer some loyalty discounts but they basically said we don’t have to discount because we have enough buyers. In addition, they (both salespeople) stated that it is illegal to purchase a motorcycle out of state under 7500 miles to scare me. This is false and i would expect that Scuderia would not pass on false info. The fact is anyone can buy a motorcycle from out of state as long as the motorcycle is 50 state legal for California emissions as per the DMV

I bought my Aprilia Scarabeo scooter from Don here. I also get it serviced here at all recommended miles, as well as unplanned visits. This place is fantastic. Proficient, well stocked, and you’ll find a great bunch of people who love 2 wheels.
Bottom line: each time I bring my Scar in, she handles better and better.

The best motorcycle shop experience in the city. Apparel sales people are super friendly, patient, and helpful. Service team is great, knowledgeable, and as a result super busy. Motorcycle sales guys are awesome.
Plus the rewards card system is pretty awesome. 10% back on everything you buy essentially. Which adds up and helps the store compete vs online prices in the long run. Plus they sell Aprilias… *drool*.

This review is based on my customer service experience. I was looking for a specific brand of motorcycle boots that the US distributor indicated that Scuderia carried. Living outside the city I decided to call to make sure they actually had what I was looking for prior to making the trip into SF.
Day 1 — called 5 times and went to voice mail each time
Day 2 — called 4 times and went to voice mail each time — left message — no return call
Day 3 — Sent email from their contact page on website and asked if they carried product — got autobot response but never a reply.
I agree with the other Unilocal reviews, these guys seem act like they are just too cool. I’m guessing they think people should come into their store if you want to privilege of spending money at their business.
I took the trip over to Fremont (after talking to them on the phone) and purchased $ 500 boots from Helimot. Outstanding service, nicer people and no question about product quality.
With service like this, someone needs to set up a competing business and just treat the customer with a little respect. They would do great.

This place is pretty cool, I like what they did with the place after there upgrade in remodeling there shop. theres more room and they now have a bigger parts and accessories department.
Leo is the man to talk to here, he is well knowledged and can help you what all your motorcycle needs, Im really impressed with this store and how far they have come

I’ll admit it. I’m that guy.
Many’s the time I’ve gone to a store to check things out, find what I like, and then buy it from whatever online dealer has it cheapest. Hey, we live in the Bay Area, and living here ain’t cheap — saving money where we can is part and parcel. So when I got my first motorcycle, and people in the know recommended Scuderia as a spot with a great selection of gear, I figured it’d be more of the same. Try a bunch of stuff on, then pick up stuff on the cheap or maybe even used.
Not this time.
The selection of gear (and bikes) is indeed great. Went in with the wifey and some friends to pick out a helmet, and Maggie was the poor unfortunate soul who got stuck with me. The patience and help she gave was ridiculous. Absolutely amazing (seriously, if the manager of Scuderia is reading this, she deserve a raise fatter than my backside). Despite thinking I just needed to make sure I was right in needing an Arai XD4 in medium, I walked out of there with a Shoei — which it turned out was infinitely more comfortable.
The kicker was coming back two weeks later, walking back in, and there was Maggie behind the counter — who looked up, saw me, and said «Hey Gary! Did that helmet work out okay?» And then proceeded to endure me spending a half hour trying out what might have been every pair of gloves in the store, which saw me walk out with a brand I’d never heard of, but… well, fit me like a glove!
To top it off, their prices are great. Dollar for dollar they’re basically in line with the big online stores like Revzilla, and give you 10% back with their customer loyalty program. Roll all that up, and I’ll come back again and again and again. I can’t speak for their service department, but in terms of making a purchase, Scuderia is an absolutely fantastic store that revolves around taking care of their customers.
