SF Film Society Cinema

Came here for a late night movie — got tickets online before hand to the balcony, which was a really great call.
They had a bar which offered a variety of spirits, wines, and most importantly, beer!
The beer selection, in fact, was pretty impressive. Had a nice range of stouts, IPAs, and lagers, including some bombers (the 22 ounce beers), which is a nice touch so you don’t have to get up as much to refill during your movie!
Had a great time, and will definitely hit this spot up again for a movie while in SFO!

I went here for the CAAM Fest 2013 Private Screening. It was a very beautiful, clean and modern cinema in the heart of Japan town. They serve Blue Bottle Coffee and have great snacks also. There is also a little shop upstairs, but I did not go see it myself. You would never guess this place had a theater if you walked by it! The theater is downstairs and is very intimate and cozy. The seats are very comfortable and even if you sit in the very front, you won’t have to break your neck.
My favorite though is their Japanese toilets! Warm toilet seats and spray clean/​air dry? Yes please haha

Awesome awesome spot to watch some great films. I’ve even been lucky to sit in on a few Q & A’s after screenings. Seriously, put yourself on their mailing list PRONTO!

Had the good fortune to discover SF Film Society Cinema while volunteering for the SF International Film Festival & then again while being a true customer at 1 of their «normal» movie screenings
Building is nice & bright w/​whites & oranges — tables & a nice coffee bar await you upon entry & you can enjoy some drinks & treats before the show
Walk downstairs to find inside the theater is surprisingly bigger than I thought it would be but it’s still nice & intimate. Orange cushy stadium seats that provide extremely minimal head-​blockage
Best part about this cinema has got to be their restrooms — no lie! Never in my life did I think I’d be all goo-​goo-​eyed over a bathroom but this 1 is the bees knees! They have the most luxurious toilet seats — they’re *heated* (!) and offer bidet functions for those who prefer that kind of action… there were so many buttons on this thing that I was scared to push anything for fear of setting off the disco lights… and coming in from a frigid cold, blustry evening, I didn’t want to leave that heated seat! :-)
I’d totally come back here to see fantastic indie picks & can’t wait to see what’s playing next!

new, clean, contemporary theater with wide comfy seats and wide arm rests with cup holders. seats 150 or so. i was impressed.

I’d like to thank the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival. Without them, I would not have known this place ever existed. Such a modern and intimate theatre. The orange seats are comfortable and I just love the lights that line the walls and ceiling. Kinda reminded me of Space Mountain.
Even the bathroom seemed futuristic. I mean the freakin’ toilet seat was heated! I want one in my house!
Plus they serve Blue Bottle coffee. Enough said.

There should be more edgy movie houses, but sadly its come down to just a few left. Please support this one.

I was lucky to find this place! I came here with Alex and some of my french friends to see The Best of Annecy. The very first animation was the Eagleman Stag, my eyes became cat-​in-​the-​boots big, the plot was amazing and it was Michael Please (he also did the video for second song from TV on the Radio), after that all I saw coming out of the screen was ponies and rainbows. The room is very good, spacious, excellent acoustics, you can turn the single chairs to doubles-​muahahah cuddles– they have a good selection of snacks and the people are friendly.
They have several run ups for Animes for the next few weeks and they are having the showing for summer pastures. I am definitely coming back.

Comfortable clean seating, stadium style, no heads in the way, good sound and screen. Café with espresso drinks and lots of good vegan cookies, Pepple’s donuts, and more.

How can I be the first one to review this fabulous place? SF Film society holds their shows here. They’re obviously people of taste, because they invited me to come show my cartoon about filthy disgusting pirates.
I found the facilities to be quite inviting. It’s basement level and feels sequestered from the outside world (as it should), like a hi-​tech vault to showcase and preserve humanity’s best culture for the post-​apocalypse future. I mean, it looks like a spaceship inside. It’s swank and modern. It’s comfortable and well-​equipped. I did hear a few complaints about the seats being too lean-​y and lacking arm rests, but I found them soft and well-​spaced, and the sound and projection were great. My stuff looked great on screen. It was the perfect size for a post-​show Q&A– 143 seats holds a crowd but not an impersonal one.
The hosts were incredibly gracious and caring about the show they were putting on. This place doesn’t organize shows like amateurs (trust me, I’ve done those.) If you’re thinking of seeing a show here, it’s probably something you wouldn’t see anywhere else, so you might not know how to judge it. Consider yourself in good hands. It will be curated with taste.
There’s tons of great options for eating and shmoozing afterward right across the street, in Japantown’s mall full of sushi places. One of my co-​attendees is well versed in quality sushi, and called the place we went to one of the best she had found in the city. Pick this theater and neighborhood for a great night out.
