SF Oral Surgery

I went to SF Oral Surgery and got Dr. Brian Yang for my upper wisdom teeth extraction. Started to look around SF for an oral surgeon after putting it off for several years. Great staff, prompt scheduling, and amazing thought in their service.
Emily, the front-​desk clerk/​scheduler was very helpful with setting up an consultation appointment and getting the insurance information sorted out. They were very quick with getting an slot (a week from my first call). They even penciled in an appointment slot for the actual procedure.
The consultation was quick, they took an X-​ray, went through the procedure and any options for anesthesia (local vs full-​body).
A week after the consultation was the procedure, which was quick (~40mins for 2 teeth). Novocaine injections on both sides, pop pop, both teeth were out. They even let me keep the teeth! That night, I even got a follow-​up call from Dr. Yang asking how I was doing and if I had any questions.
A week after the procedure, I went in for a follow-​up examination, to check if everything was healing well. I was cleared by the doctor and done!

After constantly putting off getting my wisdom teeth removed, the pressure in my gum got to me this month. I went on Unilocal and it seems like this place is the best choice to get my wisdom teeth taken out. My doctor was Dr. Kristen Rittenbach, and she was wonderful! I went in for a consultation, and was scheduled for surgery the following week.
That surgery, to me, was painless! I was told that I will be given IV sedation, and apparently I thought I was going to be put to sleep. but that wasn’t the case at all! I remember watching Dr. Rittenbach doing the procedure, from the beginning to the end.
After the surgery, I was able to go home immediately (within 5 minutes). I think she did an amazing job! It’s safe to say that I’ll definitely be back for any dental surgery I may have in the future!

I was referred to Michael Chan by my dentist for wisdom teeth removal. I scheduled a consultation during Spring Break to discuss the wisdom teeth removal. The staff is so friendly and professional. Came in during my consultation, and they helped me take X-​rays, and Dr. Chan came in the room to discuss the options I had for the surgery. Honestly, I hate blood, and I held this surgery off for a year. but I had to get this surgery done because of the pain my teeth was giving me. Dr. Chan made me feel at ease and answered all of my questions. Staff went over my payment options, after surgery procedures, and scheduled the day of my surgery.
Day of surgery: Came in bright and early, and nervous as heck. I was already freaking out when I was sitting in the chair because I did not want an IV needle stuck in my arm for an hour. Dr. Chan and his assistant came in, and they let me know everything they were doing. I told them that I HATED needles, and Dr. Chan calmed me down. I didn’t look when they inserted the needle. Moments later, I wake up with four less wisdom teeth. I was pretty drowsy, and the assistant walked me back to the car, and gave me plenty of gauzes.
My sister had hers taken out the same day as well. Dr. Chan called us a couple days later to check up on us, and made sure everything was okay. Also came back in for a follow up to see if my stitches were healing okay.
Overall, positive experience. I would recommend if you are looking for great service, friendly staff, and a great oral surgeon. Highly recommend!

I was referred to this place by my regular dentist to get my wisdom teeth removal. I had to take out my two lower teeth out and I was scared out of my mind. The staff here is so professional and everyone is so friendly. I had so many questions since it was my first time getting my wisdom teeth out and everyone was so helpful and patient with me. Dr. Yang was the one who assisted me and he explained the whole procedure to me during the consultation. My whole procedure went smoothly and when I was recovering, he personally called me to make sure that I was recovering okay. I think that was a really nice gesture and shows that the staff here really cares about their patients. Anyways, I would come back here if I need to get my two upper ones removed and I would recommend this place if you’re looking for the perfect place to get your procedure done.

came in for root canal or extraction, referred by another dentist. It was after their normal hours, but they saw me anyway. The whole staff made me feel very comfortable. I’m one of those people who has above average fear of dental work. the ONLY pain I felt was a couple pricks when he administered novocain. he extracted two teeth that were in very bad shape, sutured it up, but I didn’t feel ANY pain during the procedure. When I got home, the area was a little sore so I took some pain medication.
and that was it. it’s the third day now, and I’m still healing, but it doesn’t hurt. I haven’t had to touch the hydrocodone or advil or anything after the first night. I can’t recommend this place enough.
(I’m probably abnormally afraid of oral injection. I can handle needles in the arm or whatever, but in my mouth really freaks me out. dental drills and stuff also get to me, but nothing like the needles. I think he picked up on that or maybe they’re just really good at calming people down. in any case, it was probably the least stressful dental procedure I’ve had that was beyond a minor cavity)

Based on extensive work I’ve had done by Dr. Chan (3 implants, bone grafting, tissue grafting and more) I CANNOT RECOMMEND HIM MORE HIGHLY. My chief criteria are his clinical expertise (s indicated by outcome of work) and price (since I lack insurance). But realistically, other factors contributed significantly to my unexpectedly high satisfaction (as evidenced by this being the first such review I’ve EVER written for any service, product, or business). 1) EXPERTISE: I’d expected significant «recovery» process from my 3+ hour procedure which required general anesthesia*, including bleeding, pain, swelling, and more. (Expectations were based not only on his outstanding communication re: what to expect, but also, on my independent research.) However, I had NO bleeding and minimal swelling/​pain and NOTHING «visible» to others. In fact, upon «waking up» and looking at immediate results, my first words were, to the effect that Dr. Chan had just performed «a work of art». Dr. Chan is an incredibly skilled, highly precise, surgeon. 2) PRICE: Based on my research I concluded that the cost I incurred was on par – if not somewhat less – than what I’d have incurred from other oral surgeons (with strong reputations) IN SAN FRANCISCO. 3) OTHER KEY FACTORS: Everyone in his office is exceptionally competent, professional, friendly, and helpful, and PATIENT. They were incredible about «educating me» at every juncture including using physical models, computer graphics, pictures, books and more. Still, I was VERY nervous/​hesitant and had endless questions. They spent a LOT of time very competently and professionally addressing all of my questions. IN SUM. beyond Dr. Chan-AND-TEAM’s being PROFESSIONAL and COMPETENT, they treat patients very personally and with respect. «Five stars» along every dimension conceivable, as well as to each individual n the practice.
*Though I was unconscious, to be technically/​medically accurate, it was not via «general anesthesia», which requires administration by a certified anesthesiologist and is accomplished with different meds. MORE IMPORTANTLY, Dr. Chan administered the (effective) general anesthetic PERFECTLY. I’ve been anesthetized for dental procedures, and other surgical procedures, in the past and have learned the hard way that «outcomes» of being generally anesthetized VARY (and can be miserable), so I consider this another major «feather in the cap» of Dr. Chan.

I took my 13 year old son Tyler to Dr. Chan for a consultation. Dr. Chan was very professional, knowledgeable and very thorough. He was very good at explaining and demonstrating to Tyler what will happen on his next visit. Tyler has an impacted Canine that needs to be surgically removed. I have full confidence that Dr. Chan would do a great job. However, an unexpected turn of events…2 days before Tyler’s appointment my younger son Jordan fell off the Monkey Bars at school and broke two bones (Radial and Ulnar) in his left arm. Knowing there will be unexpected medical bills. I’ve decided to cancel Tyler’s appointment. After careful consideration my husband and I decided financially it would be at our best interest to find an oral surgeon that will accept our insurance this way less out of pocket expense. I feel horrible with this decision because Dr. Chan and his staff are AWESOME! Judy was great at answering and explaining all my questions… and I did have a lot. Poor Judy probably heard from me every day up until I had to cancel Tyler’s appointment. Even though we decided to find someone in network. I still want to give Dr. Chan and his staff a great review. It’s the least I can do for having to cancel on them. Who knows maybe our dental insurance will change and I will be able to use them in the future. As for now… I can highly recommend them to whoever is looking for a great oral surgeon with a great staff.

I was referred to Michael Chan by another dentist, and scheduled a consultation to discuss wisdom teeth removal. When making the appointment, I specifically asked the cost of the consultation as I felt the consultation/​surgery wasn’t necessary, and was quoted a reasonable price — hence following through. At the end of the consultation, I was charged more than three times the amount originally quoted.
After getting another opinion, I deem the surgery unnecessary, and felt that this instance was nothing more than dental surgeries partnering up to increase profits. If I do need surgery down the line, I won’t be going here.
That said, the office was a very clean and pleasant environment, and all the personnel were welcoming and friendly. I don’t intend to taint their overall business with this one review, this is simply my own personal experience, but was annoyed enough by the visit to feel it necessary to add it on here.

I havent had a dental procedure for the last 20 years, so as an adult I went in with anxiety for what was to come. Anxiety levels slightly below the need for xanax but right above the mark for inappropriate sweating in inappropriate areas. I had chipped an exposed wisdom tooth, leaving the nerve endings exposed to all the things that that would yield cussing and severe pain.
When I arrived at the office, I was transformed into a zone of zen and received a warm welcome from everyone I encountered. The staff was professional, well-​prepared, had a few jokes, and made me feel like one of the family. Great start.
I then met with Dr. Michael Chan (the younger of the two, although the senior Chan also greeted me) for a consultation. Still nervous, still sweating… sweated through t-​shirt #1. Not awkward yet. He looked at my chompers with the swiftness of a ninja in the night, yet the soft-​touch of morning dew on a flower petal. My expectations were to have one tooth extracted, but we were in for more. After evaluating my mess, he effectively explained what the problem was, the options available to fix the problem, as well as what he would do in ‘my shoes.’ Yes, I would have one tooth removed, but his professional advice suggested we remove both wisdom teeth. Thats when t-​shirt #2 began to peculate of my perspiration. Awkwardness level increases to defcom 3 — but he didnt comment on the beads of sweat accumulating on his examination room floor. Although no human in their right mind wants to have bone removed from their mouth, Dr. Michael’s cool and calm demeanor assured me that I would survive, it would be the most advisable option, and that it would be a procedure of minimal pain and stress. He explained the procedure, the anesthesia options and effects, the time required for the operation and recovery process. Very thorough, I felt informed and that I was making a autonomous decision without any questions or mysterious ideas that my lie ahead.
Showtime…we head down the hall towards the surgery rooms and the sweating becomes noticeable. Straight through t-​shirts #1 and #2, as if my armpits and back were creating a microcosm replicating conditions of the Degobah swamp — the new development was that my boxers were starting to bear water weight. Everything in the room pristine. One could literally eat off the floor, operating chair, computer screen, or out of the hands of the guy who took my blood pressure (Vance? Vick? Venudo?) and rest assured it was cleaner than eating off your kitchen table (or at least mine, I have 3 kids and crumbs seem fall off of their bodies and leave a trail — the benefit is you can always follow the trail to find them).
Now I’d like to speak to the procedure its self. The last time I had a dental procedure done was in the mid 90’s — maybe the art wasnt as refined or maybe the dental tools were more medieval; but I vividly remember it being painful, completely swollen, numb down to my belly button, and bleeding like the flow of the Amazon river emptying into the Atlantic Ocean. My expectations were graphic, dismal and I had cleared out my calendar in anticipation of being a bloody train-​wreck of a mess. Dr. Mike (yeah, Im going informal now as his charm and professionalism made me feel like we were connected at the souls) explained in the examination room that we would be using nitrous to take the edge off and relax my anxieties, then local anesthesia in the gums to numb any sensations from the actual removal. He was like Hannibal on the A-​Team, his plan came together and it was the least painful procedure to date. In 20 mins (10 mins to let the anesthesia set in and double check its effectiveness, and 10 mins to actually remove the teeth) we were done. No pain, just odd noises of removing bone from hard to reach places. The anesthesia was accurate, precise and wore off two hours later.
Following none of the prescribed recovery directions, I only need to take over-​the-​counter Advil (no need for crack-​head narcotics) to handle the discomfort. Huge sigh of relief. I had dinner reservations at Gary Danko’s the following day, completely capable of enjoying this godly meal. I followed the gourmet meal with a Mother’s Day bbq consisting of 3″ thick steaks. Both meals, epic… and could not be missed. I think a quick and swift recovery was only possible from such a precise and expertly executed operation.
Kudos to Dr. Michael Chan! He is an artist of his trade, he offered chair-​side manner and care only your parents could embody, and honestly the best at what he does. He is the sommelier of oral surgery!

I have had many opportunities to experience all manner of dental experiences. On one end of the spectrum have been root canals that would make medieval torturers say, «Whoa, that’s a bit much, isn’t it?» On the other end is Dr. Chan’s office. All of the front office staff were delightful, efficient, knowledgeable, and communicative. I was kept apprised of all prerequisites, costs, and options for my surgery, and they laid out the whole treatment plan from beginning to end. Dr. Chan himself gave me a thorough explanation of my options and the benefits and limitations of each. Finally, on the day of my actual surgery, the office staff were kind, thorough, and helpful, and, most important, the surgery itself went quite smoothly and largely painlessly.
There are oral surgeons much closer to my house than Dr. Chan, but I chose to cross the city to get to him, and I am simply overjoyed that I did. I highly recommend both him personally and his office for their professionalism and dedication to patient care.

I am very glad I came here for my wisdom teeth removal. The office has a modern look, is very welcoming, and the service is kind and helpful. They provided me with information a week before the removal, then scheduled a follow up the week after the surgery. I felt very at ease under the care of these doctors, and so did my mom thanks to the help of their Cantonese translators. Though I was very uneasy because they didn’t tell me when specifically to start eating regularly again, I realized that a lot of the procedures after the removal is up to you. There isn’t a specific amount of days you wait until you can start chewing again, it’s just whatever is comfortable for you. Same goes with the personal cleaning every day.
I had my wisdom teeth removed here in 2010 and 2011. I chose to remove two teeth from the left first, so that I can at least chew a bit on one side (however, I wanted to be safe and decided not to chew food I was certain the hole had closed enough).
As horrid as wisdom teeth removal can be, I think I had the best experience possible. I was under local anesthetics because it was cheaper, and honestly, the removal didn’t sound too traumatic for me. I decided that I didn’t need the full body anesthetics. The procedure took 15 – 30 minutes for 2 teeth removals, granted the wisdom teeth wasn’t causing too much of an obstruction beforehand. There was no pain. I just felt the pressure of the doctor’s hand pushing into my mouth, then I sort of felt a pop sensation as he cracked the tooth, and then he proceeded to remove pieces of the tooth. He was very informative throughout the procedure.
They gave me a care package with apple sauce, a hot pack and a cold pack, gauze, a syringe, an info pamphlet, and the doctor’s number in case I had any questions. I had no abnormal bleeding in the week that followed. The pain killers they prescribed for me worked like a charm once I began feeling the throbbing discomfort. Like I said, everything went as smooth as it could be. I didn’t get any noticeable swelling because I have a big head (can I get a high five?!) The doctor called me personally to check up, and I was even able to call him as well when I had questions. By the time my insurance could pay for a 2^nd procedure, I was actually fearless and was looking forward to being in the office again. The 2^nd time around, they were just as wonderful.

I was apprehensive enough about having my bottom two wisdom teeth removed that I put off having it done for nearly a year. When the time finally came, my dentist referred me to Dr. Michael Chan, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.
The office is clean and well-​appointed, and the staff was friendly, quickly putting me at ease before my consultation. Dr. Chan explained the procedure and laid out my options with respect to anesthesia, and then I talked to somebody else about pricing, which was reasonable (and half the price I was quoted at another oral surgeon).
I opted for the general anesthesia, and the procedure went very smoothly. There wasn’t much pain and I had minimal swelling. The healing process went without a hitch, and I was back at work by the end of the week.
If you’re in need of oral surgery, I can’t recommend Dr. Chan and his team enough.

**Update**
After visiting my Orthodontist, I was informed that I had an infection in one of the areas where I had a tooth extracted. Mind you, I did not even know this nor did I feel any pain. So much metal and orthodontic pain will do that to you. My orthodontist called Dr. Chan (he beat me to it) and told him what happened. They scheduled me in for an appointment during the same week to have it checked out.
Dr. Chan told me that I indeed had an infection and that most likely it was due to food debris. He told me that he could put me under local anesthesia and clean it out. It only took about 10 mins and I was out of there with a prescription for antibiotics. The infection healed and everything is OK now.
I also received a refund check for the difference that was charged to me that insurance ended covering.

I went to Dr. Chan two times for extractions. The evaluation was rather short but thorough and the work done was top notch. They were quick, professional and I did not experience any pain whatsover. I was given a prescription for Vicodin and as it turned out, I didn’t even need Advil. I was completely comfortable and felt taken care of.
About 2 weeks after the extraction was done, I received a check in the mail for the cost of the evaluation. Pretty sweet!

this may not make sense, but 5 stars for the best handling of one of life’s worst experiences!
the waiting room is very modern. they got some good reads on the coffee table, some historical san francisco books and some large (very scary) information pamphlets about wisdom teeth. the ladies were nice and offered tea or water while i was waiting. they even gave me a free calendar so i can stare at michael chan (as well as his father, AND the other doctor) ‘s smiling face all the way to 2013! woop dee doo.
dr. chan is very nice and friendly. he’s got crocs, which automatically got points in my book! he answers every question clearly and actually looks like he genuinely wants to help you out and not just swoop in on your money.
the day i got my teeth out i was tripping balls and asking him questions like crazy. he was very patient with me and tried his best to answer my questions clearly without stressing me out more. he explained every step while it was carried out, and i didn’t even feel the IV being inserted. i ended up knocking out mid-​sentence (i think i was trying to tell him it’s not very easy to go to a happy place when you know what’s going to happen, but i didn’t make it very far), and the next thing i knew i was awake and groggy with my mouth full of gauze.
i was given a baggy with more gauze, applesauce, an information pamphlet (which had some cool recipes for post-​surgery!) and a syringe! also copped a prescription for vicodin and anti-​inflammatory pills (which by the way were lifesavers for REAL). the dentist had to tell my designated driver all the instructions, because i was in no state to listen or comprehend anything he was saying. i honestly have no idea how i made it out of that office, but somehow i was able to wave goodbye to the receptionists and exit the building without any immediate disasters.
the recovery period was okay, i can’t blame dr. chan for the pain because each person reacts differently. my cheeks were HUGE and for the next three days i’d wake up at exactly 6 am with a sore throat and my teeth in massive pain. i’d have to get out of bed and pop a vicodin before i could go back to sleep. dr. chan called my house the night after my surgery to see how i was doing, but i was still on my deathbed and couldn’t talk. i thought it was a sweet gesture though!
dr. chan IS a little on the pricy side, but technically you ARE paying for surgery, and i’d rather pay more for quality work than save a couple bucks and get infected later in life.

after each visit, you are required to pay 50% out of pocket. they will then submit the claim to your insurance and reimburse you for the amount you paid that was covered.
overall a pretty good experience. i’d do it all over again just because the procedure itself was so painless. the only pain was the recovery period, but hey that’s life and i’m sure michael chan isn’t at fault for that. load up on ice cream (i pretty much ate a whole pint every day because i couldn’t eat anything else… lol!), subscribe to netflix and you’re good to go :)

I had my wisdom teeth taken out December 2009, and I remember it clearly.
The worst part about it all was not the procedure itself, but the insertion of the IV. I am not afraid of needles because I have gotten my ears pierced many times and have tattoo, but the idea of a needle under my skin and staying there is one of the most nauseating and fearful things to me. For that reason, I can never give blood and a blood test almost 10 years ago was traumatizing.
They attempted to put the IV in my arm. I was freaking out. Almost yelling at the doctor and nurse, almost crying. They couldn’t find my vein so they moved on to the back of my hand. Which was worse, because the area is less fatty and I know I would be able to feel the hard needle under my soft skin. My entire body stiffened, more yelling, more almost crying, but not for long, because they immediately push the anesthesia (extra $ 700) and knock me OUT. I know they were tired of my yelling, but I was genuinely freaked out!
Before I knew it, I woke up, groggy, with four less teeth. Some swelling and no pain. until a few nights later… and it was ALL pain. Vicodin wasn’t working, I couldn’t sleep, and it was just so painful. I called the doctor, thinking I had dry socket because I had sucked on a very delicious chicken wing a few nights before after my procedure, but he explained to me that I had a very impacted tooth that was close to a large nerve, so that was why my pain was more serious than normal. It went away over several days, and I am so glad that my wisdom teeth are out. The whole procedure was so worth it.
So if you have wisdom teeth, don’t wait until they are bothering you. Just take them out!

I’m the guy who put off taking out my wisdom teeth for 2 years because I was just afraid. The thought of someone extracting my wisdom teeth sounded horrible and of course I read all the articles about the risks of this surgery. I chose to do the consultation and operation on the same day (I just wanted to get it over with). Dr. Chan explained everything very clearly and after talking to him I felt way more at ease. He explained how the procedure was going to happen, the different options, the risks and then pulled up my x-​ray on the computer monitor to show me.
The staff that took down my paper work, blood pressure and financing options… awesome. They were all incredibly nice, kept me calm and just flat out fun to talk to.
Now about the surgery… I opted for getting completely knocked out. It’s worth the money. My company’s insurance isn’t bad so it wasn’t much out of pocket for me. I remember being hooked up to the EKG machine, Dr. Chan coming in and giving me a pep talk, sprayed some cold fluid on my hand so I wouldn’t feel them putting in the IV. The last thing I remember was hearing my heart rate increasing (faster beeping from the machine because I was getting nervous) and I think I heard the doctor saying «propofol».
As I was finishing my «holy crap isn’t that what MJ died of?» thought, the next thing I remember is waking up hearing Dr. Chan going «you’re done, that was easy».
Right when I woke up, I actually asked the nurse to take a photo on my iPhone of the IV tubes going out of my hand so I could post on Instagram. She got a great photo so brownie points for that.
Dr. Chan came over to the recovery area a little later and I gave him a fist bump since I could barley talk. He even called me on Saturday night to check up on me. How awesome is that?
This was on Saturday morning. I write this on Sunday morning and I’m in barely any pain (could be the meds talking still), the bleeding stopped and I feel great. I’ve used Unilocal for years but this is my first written review because that’s how strongly I endorse this place.

This is all based upon my personal EXT experience.
The good:
— Front desk staff and dental assistants that I encountered during my time there were nice.
— The oral surgeon who did my extractions was Dr. Michael Chan and he made me feel like I was in good hands. He has a calm, professional and just an all around pleasant demeanor.
— Did not feel like I was being talked down to. Last thing I want is someone who just because they have a DDS or MD after their name, that somehow justifies that they know so much more than you and are better than you and as such, talks to you like you’re a little kid. You won’t get treated like that here.
— Upon asking several faculty and staff at the dental school in regards to what they remember about this doctor (those who were around during the time Dr. Chan was getting his degree in dentistry), they said nothing but positives about him as a former dental student. This was exactly what I wanted to hear.
— IV Anesthesia — are you kidding me? I would not have even done this surgery if I was only going to have just local anesthesia. I didn’t want to hear any cracking/​crunching of my impacted wisdom teeth while they were being pulled out. Heck no. Here is how and what I remember of my first time being under you, IV Anesthesia:
In the midst of stuff being wrapped around my arm, leg, pulse being monitored, etc. and right before they were going to administer you:
Me: «About how long is this going to take for it to work?»
Dr. Chan: «A minute.»
Me: «Oh, okay.» But in my mind, I said to myself, «Hmmm, can’t be THAT fast, we’ll see about tha.. .. «
And that was quite frankly the last thought I had, and then I was out. This «twilight anesthesia» worked like a charm;-) I did open my eyes during the procedure once and saw a blur of green moving (the color of the doctor or his assistant’s scrubs), but couldn’t keep my eyes open for more than two seconds. Also, I distinctly remember feeling either the material they use for the dissolvable sutures (or something) brush against my upper right cheek. Didn’t feel anything going on in my mouth at all, due to the local.
— Vicodin — I took you everyday for six days and I had a feeling I was getting addicted to you towards the end. But I love Pugs, not drugs.
— Dr. Chan called the same night of the surgery to check up on me, which was very thoughtful. However, as much as I wanted to let him know how things were going, I was not able to answer since the local anesthesia had completely worn off about four hours later and for me, it was rather uncomfortable and painful to even talk then. So I was left a message stating that if I had any problems, to please call back.
— Clear post-​op instructions printed out and also explained to you thoroughly, in advance.
— A plastic bag filled with enough gauze provided to control the bleeding, ice packs, applesauce and a syringe to clean/​irrigate the lower extraction sites.
The bad:
— Prices are a bit high — even with dental insurance from working full time, I was shocked when I was first told how much I would have to pay out of pocket. I kept reminding myself that it is after all, surgery. Part of the reason was due to costs associated with the IV anesthesia. I expressed my love of this above, but I hate you at the same time, IV anesthesia, because you’re so damn expensive.
— Two days after I finished my antibiotics, developed a rash all over my upper body from the prescribed Amoxicillin medication;-(I did not expect this at all, as I previously had never gotten a reaction from taking any antibiotics. Notified them about this and after a brief conversation was ultimately told by the person who answered that if it gets worse, to call 911.
After all that’s been said and done, the good clearly appears to outnumber the bad. All in all, the three visits in total I had made with my oral surgeon were positive. If I could have done anything differently, I would have had these extractions done while still in high school. So if you’re young and are thinking about doing this now or putting it off later in your life — trust me, do it now, for sure. The truth is that it (the pain) gets worse as you get older and the surgery becomes more complicated and the healing takes longer.
This entire experience will be one I’ll never forget. Post-​op recovery, in particular, is quite miserable, especially the first week, but as with any surgical procedure, remember that everyone reacts and recovers differently so some will have it easier/​harder than others. But in the end, I’m glad I did get them taken out and was equally glad to have been able to find a VERY GOOD oral surgeon to get the job done. Thank you, Dr. Michael Chan.

BYE BYE WISDOM TEETH — YOU SHALL NOT BE MISSED.
If your like me and like to put things off, and prolong the extraction of your wisdom teeth, things will only get worse. So finally, (after a year and a half) I talked to my friends and colleagues about referrals for oral surgeons and Dr. Chan was mentioned a couple times. I decided to call in and the secretary, Kai, scheduled me 3 days later for a consultation. Upon the consultation, x-​rays were taken of my molars (high-​tech machinery: all without inserting anything in my mouth), I watched a 14minute video of how the procedure would work, and also met Dr. Chan. He was very informative of how everything would proceed and was very professional. I was then scheduled again in 1 week to have the operation commence.
Now like any concerned citizen, I went on google and researched the side effects and possible negatives outcomes that could occur during an operation. Loss of sinuses, internal bleeding, inflection, being ridiculously HIGH-​OFF-​MY-​ASS, etc — aww crap!
I had my operation today (6÷1÷11) at 9:50AM. I was brought to the back room and hooked up to all the monitors and given oxygen. Dr. Chan greeted me, asked if I had any questions or needed anything, then prepared the anesthesia. Now at this point, all the crap I google’d was coursing through my head but before I could even attempt to say a word, I went nighty-​night. By the time I woke up, it felt like I just took a quick 15minute nap; didn’t feel like 1 hour passed by. I wasn’t high, nor in pain at all. The operation was a success. One of the dental assistants then gave me a goody bag full of gauze pads, ice paks, and some applesauce. Sweet.

Now, just gonna take my Vicodin and KTFO.

One of the most painless dentist experiences I have ever been through. After coming in for a consultation to have my wisdom teeth removed, Dr. Chan explained every option that you can go through, including not having surgery. I was easily convinced that I chose the right oral surgeon.
The whole staff there is extremely friendly and helpful. The office and equipment itself looks very well kept and modern. The actual surgery itself took around an hour where I was knocked out from the anesthesia. Right after wards the assistant explained all the post-​op advice and procedures I should take. They give you pamphlets so you wont forget. Dr. Chan also followed up a day later with a call to see how I was doing.
