SFC Double Dutch

These are some bad ass bitches. I’m not going to lie, the first night of class I was intimidated. With names like, Death Vally, Switch Blade, and Venomiss, who wouldn’t be. But we quickly saw the soft side of these ladies. They are great teachers and had everyone jumping two ropes within the first 30 minutes of our first class. After the six weeks of class we came back for level two. And after andother six weeks we were hooked. I’m a lifer.
Grab you running shoes, put on a sports bra (you’ll need ti) and Crack that Jump Rope!

OMG! I’ve found my true love. I liked hooping a LOT, but this is INTENSELY more satisfying! The girlz @ SFCDD are bad-​asses! They do not baby us, we literally jump right in, and it’s AWESOME! I went through both Level 1 and 2 and am going on to AllStars with most of my classmates, because really… we couldn’t live without it.
RUN, do not walk to take a class. You’ll be a new person. I promise!

I can safely say the Girl Group has been the single biggest influence in my life. «Waterfalls» got me through the tumultuous freshman year of high school. Diana Ross was not only a leadsingerspiration during my formative years, but also a wigspiration. Coko’s nails — nay, ART — reminded me just how fragile and beautiful life can be. «Free Your Mind» taught me how to own the catwalk while being colorblind.
Unfortunately, the glory days of the Girl Group have been at a wane for the better part of this new millennium.
Until now.
Venomiss. Switchblade. Death Valley. Together, they are the Double Dutchesses.
These ladies are a magnificent amalgamated fusion of elegance, muscle, femininity and athleticism. Imagine Serena Williams and Iman, ice dancing in Lillehammer, or Madonna leading Teri Hatcher through breathing exercises in Lamaze class, or JK Rowling and Lucy Liu perfecting Ikebana, the ancient Japanese art of flower arranging.
Now add to that visual a bunch of ropes and you got the amazing wonder that is SFC Double Dutch.
Equipped with the patience of saints, they will have you jumping like gum-​chewing pros in under an hour and doing tricks you thought only possible for the under-​90-​lb. set.

Before the first class I was a little worried, thinking that any ladies awesome enough to teach double dutch would probably be too cool for school, but Switchblade, Venomiss & Death Valley are very friendly, totally encouraging, and great teachers. I highly recommend their classes — you’ll do tricks you never thought you’d be able to do, get a great workout and have SO SO SO much fun. High 5s!!!

Somewhere between badass athleticism and superfly rocking out lies SFC Double Dutch. Val, Erin and Jill (aka Death Valley, VenoMiss, and Switchblade) are such incredible teachers that they put Annie Sullivan to shame (damn straight that was a Helen Keller reference).
I started out in the Level 1 (the beginner series) never having Double Dutched before. By the end of the first class, I could not only jump in – and stay in – but I could also do a few basic moves. Enter my Double Dutch obsession.
Believe me when I say that these classes are FUN. Sure, it feels good to learn a new skill and get some exercise while you’re at it, but the SFC girls manage to make each class feel like the kind of party you’re really glad you didn’t blow off. From dope tunes to hilarious commentary, they’ll keep you smiling despite the fact that you can no longer breathe and you’ve just sweat through your ironic T-​shirt.
Nine months later, I’m still taking classes. And I now get to tell EVERYONE how I’m at the VIP level! Any excuse to mention this and you better believe I’m all over it. «Oh, you’re into bondage? Speaking of ropes, I’m in the SFC Double Dutch VIP class. Want me to send you a video of our latest performance?»
So buy yourself a really good sports bra, a supportive pair of sneaks and a big bottle of Advil and get in those ropes!

As I sat at the Roller Derby bout between the Oakland Outlaws and the Richmond Wrecking Belles, I was excited as is. Then, the half time show was about to start and I see 3 hot women in 1920s style flapper fringe dresses with tennies on armed with two ropes.
Ah, ish! Double Dutch?!? What tha?!
Switchblade, Death Valley and Venomiss put it down for Double Dutch. I was INSPIRED! Of course, who doesn’t love hanging out with their best buds at the club dancing and getting their groove on when the week ends. What’s better than that? DOUBLE DUTCH is better! Bold statement, sure it is but SO true! Anywho, after the Derby, I spoke with Death Valley and she encouraged me to come through for a class!
Although I’ve never done Double Dutch (I only ever jumped rope at the gym), I felt like I found my outlet and something that totally fits my personality — Double Dutch taught by the best in San Francisco. On the real, folkers, this has been the BEST way for me to get back into shape and I’ve met some AWESOME people! You THINK it’s easy but it takes practice, coordination, muscle memory and a good attitude. High Fives all around, people encouraging you, smiling while you work your tuchus off and learning new ways to jump rope. Oh my Gawd… do as I say and get your a$$ to a SFC Double Dutch class taught by these amazing women!
Even though I’m a bit weak in the knees, my body is starting to grow accustomed to all this jumping. I can’t wait to start mixing in all these wicked dance moves and what not. I’m so confident SB, DV and VM will have me lookin’ so sweet bunny hopping, mumbling and throwin’ up them knees and lookin’ cute doin’ it!

I booked these girls for a street party in Oakland a few years back and they made it the street party to end all street parties! People of every age were fascinated and impressed. They are professional at having fun. I am too lame to take their classes but I know what goes on in there and you shouldn’t pass it up.

Waaaaiit wait no, those aren’t five stars. Those are five rings. Like the Olympics. ‘Cause these girls (and boys) will totally give you the «Dah, dah dahdahdah, dah, chachachadah, dah dah dah dah, chachachacha» Chariots of Fire feeling as you jump your way from being just some kid off the street to a tall socks, short shorts, and airbrushed nickname cutoff wearin’ double dutchin’ fiend.
In fact, had I not had to stop going because of my conflicting school schedule, I might have earned the right to wear one such sock by now.

Nooooowwww, I get it! Jill from SFC Double Dutch sent me a message saying that, during the Unilocal Party, there wasn’t enough light outside to do their usual tricks. Also, they had their students doing most of the jumping, so that explains the mistakes. It also makes me feel a little like a jerk for my first review.
Now that I know they were just learning, I feel like I should have graded them on effort. Good effort, Jumpers! Thumbs up!

Why were there only four people in the class I had here? It doesn’t seem fair to everyone else in the world that I could spend $ 120 for six weeks of classes and basically get a 1-​to-​1 teacher/​student ratio. All y’all need to get on this. Because after seeing your cookie cutter Marina asses at the Unilocal Holiday party last night, you are definitely up for an infusion of some genuine San Francisco shit.
And this is it. The teachers are like the roller girls sans shoulder chips (much love for the roller girls, but let’s be honest, you’re cultivating a scary persona, which is cute, but relax, relax.), and at least one of them smokes. Think about that. These ladies are jumping rope like their lives depend on it and they have to handicap themselves to slow down.
By the end of class one you’ll be in the ropes. Hell– buy the end of the first FIFTEEN MINUTES you’ll be in the ropes. And by class six you’re pathologically unable to stop jumping. It’s SO MUCH GODDAMNED FUN. And you can whip it out at the park without being as annoying as the BM hula-​hoop anachronisms. And oh, the bragging rights. «I just got out of double dutch class,» is more conversation hijacking that «I just got out of yoga» could ever hope to be.
PS when they tell you to buy ugly workout shoes, listen to them. It took me four weeks of major shin splints and an entire bottle of Advil to finally break down and stop wearing street kicks, and it’s made all the difference.

My last review seems to have disappeared, but I can’t let my love for these girls and this class go unnoticed. 5 stars all around.

I have been learning double dutch jump rope from these Rope Goddesses for several months now. These classes are FUN!!! Don’t go if: 1. You don’t like wild music, fun and challenging jump rope tricks or smiling and laughing a lot. 2. You would rather stay put at home and not have a jump rope ecstatic experience. Do go to their classes if: 1. You want to bring old school playground kickapoo joy juice jump rope into your regular workout routine 2. You are ready to be caught up in the excitement of rope jumping as it gains more national and international attention. 3. You want to learn some really cool tricks by some fun, kind, experienced and helpful Dutchesses of the sport.

I took my first Double Dutch class from the ladies of SFC Double Dutch last night. My friend and I had a blast. It’s not only a good workout but incredibly fun to learn something completely new. I consider myself fairly coordinated but was definitely challenged by the ropes. Plus the instructors are very nice and encouraging and made the whole experience fun. I highly recommend checking it out!
