Zack, the owner, and his wife could not have been more patient and helpful. My boyrfiend bought me a GORGEOUS one of a kind sapphire and diamond necklace! They have customers for life! DEFINITELY NOT CLOSED…

6 months into our engagement, my center cushion cut diamond fell out. LUCKILY!!! I had heard it on our hardwood floors. I am a very careful and cautious person with expensive gifts/​belongings so I often confirm my jewelry is in place where it should be.
After showing Simayof the lose diamond… they were very disappointed and had convinced us that this has rarely happened. They were very friendly and decided to
«fix» the ring. Their «fix» was to enlarge the 4 clamps surrounding the diamond set on the halo.
6 months after the fix… my center stone rattles. Luckily it has not fallen out… I am taking as much care of it as I possibly can.
Unless I am mistaken… aren’t center diamonds supposed to stay put?
Poor craftsmanship…

I really don’t know the Sleazeball Guido who is running the show on Union Street, but one thing is for sure, it’s not good… For All those Unilocalers who are reading this review, Please Pay Special Attention, and Look VERY Carefully at the «below-​average» reviews because at first interaction these guys do a good job at reeling you in and then after the fact it’s like, Oh Yeah, You Purchased A 20K+ Ring, go «F%$!» Yourself…
Seriously, What The Hell?! I’m So Angry At These Guys!!!
First, to give you a little background; I don’t get upset easily, for the most part I’m a fairly easy going business professional who’s lived in the city of San Francisco for 8 years until my wife and I got pregnant, where we moved to Sausalito. We live just over the bridge, stabbing distance from the Marina, Cow-​Hollow and Unfortunately Simayof…
My wife and I were in the market for an engagement ring so we looked around and went to a variety of places, including Simayof (Again — Unfortunately). The sale’s person that helped us — Kay was nice and helpful, she even educated us on the policies of Simayof as they offer free lifetime upgrades and supposed replacement of their Pave Diamonds if any were to come loose and were to accidentally fall out. This was very attractive to us as we purchased the beautiful ring (that in fact included many Pave Diamonds on the band) and we were on our way.
OK… Fast Forward… About a year has gone by now, no problems whatsoever and recently my wife unexpectedly/​unintentionally loses a Pave Diamond (One of Many Similar Diamonds) on her band. As my wife was in the neighborhood, she took her time to physically go into the store on Union Street to talk to a gentleman who was actually in the middle of watching videos on his IPad instead of greeting her, she actually interrupted him to see if she could be helped. He stated that he was the owner and it spiraled down from there. My wife tried to explain the situation and basically referred to the policy that Simayof had, it’s on their website (
) where it states they would replace any diamond up to 0.20 in size.
He quickly went into a ramble on why he couldn’t do it and why they’ve never done it. He wouldn’t even let her get one word in. What’s funny is that one of our friends has a Pave Encrusted Band that was purchased from the same store, much like ours but without the large carat diamond on top. Our friend confirmed that she has indeed had her Pave Diamonds replaced for free multiple times free of charge. What’s also funny is that their policy states, «Simayof will replace any accent stone of up to 0.20 carats free of charge». I don’t get it, am I missing something?
Back to the story…
My wife quickly called me after she left the store and was very upset and stated that she has never been treated so rudely, especially when she went in there in search for help!
IS THIS GUY SMOKING CRACK OR SOMETHING?
We bought a very expensive engagement ring, they had us… They had a client for life with the opportunity for them to gain both additional business from us and even referral business from our family, friends, and acquaintances. Referrals!!!
Talk About POOR Customer Service… Well, NOT ANYMORE…
If you are the owner and reading this, «YOU BLEW IT BUDDY»! You should be ashamed of yourself
To make a long story short, I called the guy right after talking to my wife to attempt to explain the situation and why we were calling, and that I didn’t appreciate how my wife was treated. I couldn’t even get a word in with this guy, #1 he’s got an accent that makes it impossible for you to even understand him and second he rambled on forever about Tiffany’s of all places. It was confirmed, the apparent owner was an incompetent, rude, and as my wife Quotes «A Pompous Ass» who has no regard for clients.
I’ve spent longer than I should have on this review, but I’m still mad and so is my wife. We of course have insurance so we can get this handled outside of Simayof, but it’s the principle. If you offer a service and a policy guarantee, stick to it.
What an exhausting ordeal. Maybe the Powell Street Store will be more accommodating. I am never going back to this place EVER Again and neither should you! BUYERS BEWARE…

My husband (then Fiancé) and I stopped into Simayof on Union after we’d been looking at rings for a WHILE. I’d been to shops in NYC and Atlanta and all over SF. We’d both found rings we really liked in some of these places, but found the prices to be way out of our range. After trying on some very well priced bands in the store, the sales associate mentioned that they could do custom rings. Okay, yeah, I say it would be nice if you could make our dream rings for a great price, but we are getting married in one month… And what are the odds they’ll turn out right, anyway? She seems unphased and chirps enthusiastically, ‘Sure! We can do that! Trust me!’. So, we decided to take a chance and get them made with Simayof.
During the process we became friends with Mickey and Ellian, who own/​run/​manage the store, and are some of the sweetest people to work with. They were very exactly in confirming the materials/​gems used, the cuts, the carats, the weight, the metals, the widths, everything was discussed. Ellian admitted that it was going to be close getting the ring back in time, but assured me I could borrow anything I wanted for the ceremony if it came to it. Turns out that wouldn’t be necessary. The rings came in 5 days early and they were beautiful! Not only that, they appraised for more than we paid, which always makes you feel like you got great value.
I have recommended Simayof to all friends looking for bands, and two of my friends have had rings copied/​custom made that ended up better looking than the original and for a better price with personalized customer service. We will be back for my future collection of wedding bands :) Congrats Mickey & Ellian on your engagement!

My now-​husband bought my enegagment ring at the Simayoff in Union Square but when it came down to getting our wedding bands, we decided to go to the SImayoff located near our home on Union Street.
I went to several other jewelry stores to find the perfect wedding band and found several that i liked but they were very pricey.
We went in to Simayoff several times, tried on omany bands and after a few weeks of decided and explainging what I wanted, we found a band that we both loved. The style of band they showed me and that i liked was not an eternity band but they said they would be able to create one for not that much an of an increase in price.
The band that we created at Simayoff was larger with more diamonds than a similar band we saw down the street and since we purchased the egagment ring at a simayoff, they were able to help out with the price tremendously!
My husband found his ring there as well. It is a dark Tungston band and it looks awesome and is so unique!
As soon as we purchased our bands, they opened up a bottle of champagne for us to celebrate. What is so funny is the bottle they opened was from the winery where we got engaged. It was meant to be!
What I love about Simayoff on Union Street is their customer service. I never felt pressue to buy anything, they would walk us through the store to help us find the exact ring we wanted and at the end of the day, they let us pick what we liked. I feel that al ot of stores will point you towards one style over another because that is the «look» right now or that is the vision that they have. But everyone at Simayoff just wanted us to be happy so that was great
I recently went in there to get my ring cleaned, rodium re-​plated and also have a diamond replaced. I am very hard on my rings so this was bound to happen. I walked in and was out about 15 minutes later with a beautiful, sparkly ring with my new diamond put in. No charge. Great service!
Everytime i leave they alwasy let me know to come back I need anything. From cleanings, plating and of course, if any of my diamonds comes loose or fall out.

Let me first say that I looked at engagement rings for 4 months. I must have visited 40 different stores in San Francisco, Walnut Creek and Carmel. I went to the jewelry exchange and boutiques. I looked at hundreds of diamonds and many more settings. I spoke to at least 25 designers. I bought my ring 5 months ago and have waited to see how the craftsmanship and customer service have been post-​purchase. Based on this experience, I believe I am well qualified to make this recommendation.
Simayof and Mickey in particular are amazing. Mickey was able to provide the best price for the center stone in the engagement ring I purchased. The only cheaper place to buy the center stone was on Blue Nile, and you don’t want to do that — trust me. No store could even come close to Mickey’s price. He also provided a wedding band for my fiancé as part of a package deal. It was a home run.
But I did not purchase from Simayof based on price alone. The reason I got the ring there was the design of their settings. They do FANTASTIC work. If you don’t see exactly what you want in the store, the will design it for you. And it will be beautiful. A lot of places offer you computer models and wax moldings to get you to bite. Not Mickey. He just told me «it will be perfect — she will die. And if its not perfect, Ill redo it». Well, he walked the walk. The design was perfect — he nailed it the first time (and got the ring completed 2 – 3 weeks faster than anyone else said they could).
Finally, the customer service has been as good before the purchase as it has afterwards. They clean the ring whenever my fiancé stops in. He poured champagne for us on a couple of occasions. My fiancé and I feel like Simayof truly appreciated our business — and they certainly treat us like they do.

They carry nice designs, are friendly, and willing to make a deal. So i was happy to come here a second time, this time to look for a ring. Unfortunately, their follow up service (done at the Union Square main shop) is terribly unreliable — they engraved my girlfriend’s name wrong, twice in a row!
At the fifth visit to the Union St shop I was referred to the main store to have it corrected immediately. After arriving there 20mins later I am told it will take a day or two because the jeweler is out. And this after Mickey from the Union St. shop called them telling them that I am coming over. Also, the repeated polishing off and re-​engraving left the ring somewhat uneven.
The store is very near my house and I like their styles a lot and so does my girlfriend. But this was just too much headache for a simple engraving. I cannot comprehend how they can be so sloppy, given that many people would want their ring engraved.
UPDATE: the Union St. store seems CLOSED now. Too bad, since as I said, the main problem seemed to be at the back office.

I love Simayof. We got the engagement ring of my dreams, our wedding bands and two pairs of earrings here over the years. Everything is seriously gorgeous and unique becuase they are willing to work with you to make alterations and customize things. They are far from pretentious or pushy. Everyone we have worked with is friendly and very honest. This is our lifetime jewelry store now and I won’t go anywhere else to find that special and beautiful piece.

After a huge series of problems with the Powell St Simayof, I came here to try to get some help — they’d been nice to me in the past when my fiancé and I were shopping for wedding bands, and I thought they might be more interested in customer service than the other store was. Mickey agreed, without making me feel silly or stupid (as the other store had) to fix my broken engagement ring for cost, and it’s turned out beautifully. I can’t go higher than 3 stars because of my overall experience with the company, but if I had to recommend one location over the other, I’d definitely pick this one.

I can’t say enough about my experiences here. I first went in a few years ago to have my engagement ring reset based on various pictures and magazine clippings. Kay helped me through the entire process and was very patient and helpful. I was beyond happy with the end product and couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful ring — it was like they read my mind. Over the years whenever I go in, Jonathan is always there to help with whatever it is I need. Recently I met with him to have a pair of antique earrings made into matching pendants for myself and my mom as a gift. Not only did they do an amazing job crafting the jewelry, but Jonathan took the time out of his busy day (not many VPs would do that for a client) to meet me at work to make sure that I had them in time for my trip home to surprise my mom.
Unlike other jewelers, you never feel like you are in a pushy environment, rushed, pressured into a sale or even not given the time of day if you’re not going to spend a lot of money. Simayof provides great service and product, an attentive staff and friendly atmosphere. If you’re looking to make a special purchase and value the customer service experience, I would recommend Simayof on Union.

where do I start? How about 6 years ago in the middle of Union Square, in love, and thinking we’ll just «look» around for engagement rings. We happened to pop into Felici (sister store at the time for Simayof) and there we met the jeweler of our dreams, Jonathan, and the most perfect ring of my dreams! He was patient, not at all pushy, easy to work with, very accommodating, helpful, and definitely followed through of all his promises that he would make everything perfect! I left with the most beautiful ring, set in the Tiffany setting I wanted, with a price that would make anyone jealous…
Over the years, my fiancée and I have finally set a date, but through the years we lost touch with Jonathan and had my band made by another jeweler in Burlingame. It was hidious, awful looking, and we didn’t know what to do. We recently walked into the Union Street store and lo and behold… Jonathan was working! He was able to make it possible, within our financial means, to work with us to create the most beautiful band possible. The stones are amazing and just so beautiful.
I just called him tonight because those beautiful diamonds in the band were cutting into my fingers a bit… his response, «No problem darling. Bring it in anytime and we’ll take care of it.». He really will take such good care of you and make you feel comfortable if there is ever a problem.
I really cannot say enough about him and or the quality of jewelry he will sell to you… I receive at least 1 compliment a day on my engagement ring… BTW…Jonathan did pull out the most amazing stone years ago… two cuts in one with beautiful facets… a Princess cut and Radiant cut. You will have to see it to believe it!
Ps. Did you know that they will credit you so that you can upgrade your diamonds??? Buying your ring here is really a no brainer

I recently had a custom groom’s ring that I designed produced by George at Simayof.
I’m thrilled with the results. The ring is perfect! Simayof’s in-​house designers took my sketches, and delivered two versions of my design as prototypes in silver. Once we selected the winning design, they produced the final platinum ring in under two weeks.
Every bit of the transaction was handled via email, phone, and FedEx shipments — very convenient. George was very quick to respond to all my questions, and the turnaround time was great! I highly recommend Simayof for custom jewelry!

My fiancé and I have had nothing short of a fantastic experience at Simayof.
I picked out my potential engagement ring about six months before we were engaged (since I knew I didn’t want to be surprised with a ring I would wear forever) and when I returned, Kay remembered exactly what we had discussed. When we went back for our wedding bands, they were helpful and honest, not trying to upsell us but explaining the different types of metal that could be used for a man’s ring to determine what was best for us.
Jonathan, the VP, is an expert in diamonds, and always ensures that his customers are well informed and 100% happy with their decisions.
Kristen, the newest expert on the team, is always ready to greet you with a smile and chat about your day.
I return about once a month to have my ring professionally cleaned and sparkle like the day I got it, and I’m always treated like a queen.

We initially bought our wedding rings from the Union square store, and had an awesome shopping experience there. And for our one year anniversary I bought my wife diamond studs from the Marina store (Union St). I absolutely love Simayof stores :) Customer service is exceptional, the staff is really friendly. They pay attention to the slightest details and always try to help as much as they can. We will definitely be coming back to purchase more jewelry in the future. My wife loves the earrings, and I love the fact that Simayof made it so simple for me to go through with the purchase process :)
If you’re shopping for jewelry, this is the BEST place to go in the city!!!

I have nothing but praise for Simayof. My husband purchased my engagement ring and wedding band there several years ago. I just adore their beauty.
I recently had my engagement ring independently appraised requested by my insurance company to update our policy. I went to to two appraisers and they both appraised the ring significantly higher than our original purchase price. One appraiser commented on the great quality of my diamond and even asked if i wanted to sell it. WTF??? like I would sell my engagement ring.
Whenever I am in Union Square or the Marina I drop in unannounced and they always clean my rings with a smile free of charge. While I can’t speak to their sales tactics since my husband did the buying, frankly its not that important for me. Of most importance are continuing customer service and a beautiful diamond at a great price and Simayof has aced those for me.
I plan on buying something in the next few months and will update my experience. Oh, and i just love their exotic fish tank in the downstairs showroom.

My fiancé and I had been looking for a setting for her diamond for almost a year before we wandered into Simayof and met Jonathan.
Not only did they have a great selection of unique settings, but they didn’t tack on a bunch of extra charges because we didn’t buy the diamond from them (a common practice we found).
When we asked if we could swap out the head for a different one that we liked better, the answer was an unequivocal «no problem!» They had the ring ready to go on time and in three weeks, which was much fast than any other jeweler we had visited.
Jonathan added tremendous value in helping us to decide between platinum and white gold (we chose white gold), and really took the time to explain the pros and cons.
On the service and value side, Simayof carries their own insurance on their settings, so if one of the smaller diamonds on my fiancé’s ring falls out, they will replace it free of charge. They also offer free ring cleanings when you happen to be near the store and will re-​plate the rhodium for free (a huge value as it needs to be done almost every year and costs between $ 75 and $ 100 at most places) if your ring is white gold.
The price of the setting was more than fair. In fact, it was a much better value than many other places we had visited. Jonathan was kind enough to extend the 40% discount on the setting that ordinarily only applies if you purchase the diamond through them. He did this without us having to ask, which is what made the price so competitive.
I’ve read a few of the other reviews, and my impression is that some of the people who reviewed the store were more interested in browsing and not buying. We had a very good idea of what we wanted and were ready to pull the trigger as soon as we found it for a reasonable price. As such, we didn’t feel pressured at all, and I found the entire experience very positive.
I will definitely be back and thank you very much Jonathan for all your help! You made my fiancé very happy and for that I am grateful.

Simayof has an extensive selection of engagement rings. Our salesperson listened to my preferences and brought multiple setting styles to show me. Their rings were absolutely beautiful and there were several that I liked very much.
The salesperson chatted it up with my boyfriend for a long time, asking about his work, where we lived, etc. trying to build a rapport with us. It seemed a bit like a used car sales tactic. After I had found the setting that I liked, I felt pressured by the salesperson to say that I «loved it» and then he would look expectantly at my boyfriend. We had just started looking at rings and weren’t ready to buy just yet. The salesperson was clearly disappointed and kept turning the conversation to our line of work as if to keep us there longer to give us a chance to reconsider. We definitely felt pressured to buy on the spot.
I would give this place 4 stars for their engagement ring selection, and 3 stars for their sales tactics.

Simayof has a really nice selection of rings. One of my best friends found her and her husband’s rings and are very happy — they are beautiful.
My experience visiting both times were a let down compared to other places around town. The ambiance is a bit cold and I felt like I had to do a lot of the navigating to find what I was looking for. Too boot, the harsh lighting doesn’t make you feel the prettiest. And when shopping for a ring with your lover, you should feel pretty.
Most recently my fiancé and I went in to look for bands and felt overly pressured to make a quick decision. «Buy now, before the sale ends!» — which I expect from household goods, but not a place where I am picking a piece of jewelry I will be wearing everyday for the rest of my life. Way to take out that special feeling.

Well 1^st off, what a shock that there are only a few other reviews. In this era of Unilocal,and in SF, the birth place of Unilocal: what a surprise.
But my experience was lovely. We strolled in and Kim was friendly and helpful. We were shopping for a wedding band for my FI and I had already done a substantial amount of research on the net. It is ridiculously difficult to get a man’s ring. The industry is ALL about the bride and most men’s rings look like cr@p. No, he is not a mafioso or a rapper. And that’s who the industry seems to be designing for.
We had been to 5 or 6 other stores, including Tiffany and just could not find a ring he liked.
We did here– a lovely platinum with white gold inlay (note: just found out it is Tungsten and titanium). It was HEAVY. and large. We had to custom order the ring, It was double the amount of money I had intended to spend and one of the most expensive men’s rings I had encountered. It had to be special ordered because my FI’s hands are very large. I was concerned it would not be ready in time for the nuptials and Kim offered to lend us a ring in the interim, if it was necessary.
She also noted– when I expressed my budget– that there was a sale. Probably not, but hey I was happy to get any discount I could.
Wedding ring shopping is very emotional, I know. And I know that jewelers count on that. But truly, money was not the focus and I was finally able to get a wedding ring which my future husband will wear every day. And I wanted it to be just what he wanted.

What were they thinking?
It was a bright, sunny day. The large stones and settings gleamed in the sunlight. Mostly. The ones without the fingerprints on them, anyway. When I walked in, they had no customers. There was a clerk standing about every 10 feet behind the counters. I told the nearest one about the fingerprints on a stone in the window, and he thanked me for the information. That’s it. Nobody moved.
I went back outside and looked at the window display some more. It looked like one of the stones was scratched. How the heck do you scratch a diamond?
As I looked at the other shops in the neighborhood, I never saw anyone go into the Simayof window and clean the display.
