I saw Dr. Smith today for a simple check up after a bout of tonsillitis. He completely put me at ease. He patiently listened to me while I explained my situation and he communicated very clearly what I needed to do to avoid getting sick in the future. I was in and out in 20 minutes. Amazing!
The only frustrating thing is that they ONLY accept checks as payment, meaning that I now have to mail a check back to their office. No debit cards. No credit cards. Checks only.

I had a GREAT experience with Dr. Smith. He took his time and listened to everything I wanted to share with him about my problem. He took time to respond to each of my concerns and was then incredibly professional and competent with the treatment plan.
I would recommend Dr. Smith to anyone that needs an Ear, Nose and Throat doctor.

Fantastic customer service, a caring doctor, a caring staff. Very good with insurance and scheduling and putting the customer first. Enjoys doing quality work. It’s a kind of medical care that reminds one of the old days when doctors were there to heal patients. I was born in 1959, and so, unlike most patients, I remember real medical care and real doctors. Then I saw the switch-​over to HMOs and the move by insurance companies to limit care to a mere symbolic effort. If you’re older, you’ll recognize and remember what the glory days of American medical care were like when you visit this office. It’s a rare thing to see a practitioner of this sort still in medicine.

Dr. Smith is very kind. He also wears one of those forehead-​mirror-​circles. I wanted to take his portrait because I couldn’t believe that he had one and USED IT. FYI everyone, those things take light and reflect it into the spot that the wearer is looking at, through the middle of the circular mirror. WOW.
But anyway, that’s fun and everything, but he is also a pretty good ENT. I have recurring nosebleeds and was getting a vessel in my nose cauterized, which I’ve had done before. He looked at everything, gave me a few options for the days following the cautery, most of which I’ve adhered to (hard not to tilt your head way over).
My main issue with any doctor is the level of communication they feel they should be imparting. I want to know everything. After the novocaine wore off, I was in such excruciating pain, I had to go to urgent care, who determined that the burn was very deep and probably hit a nerve. I wish Dr. Smith had said something to this effect if he was aware that it might happen.

Dr Smith is the best doctor I’ve ever had. He’s patience and makes sure all my questions are always answered. I have a very persistent issue with sinus infections, not to mention horrible allergies, and he always takes the time to make sure I’m feeling as best as possible given the circumstances.
Mary Ellen at the front desk is a hoot too, love talking to her and she’s very helpful as well.
I can’t say enough nice things about Dr Smith.
I wish his office was open more often, but that’s a minor inconvenience as he’s given me the name of a colleague to contact if his office isn’t open.

Dr. Rogers is really good. The moment you walk into the office you feel at ease.

Dr. Smith is amazing. I was tortured by tinnitus when I visited him. He was fast, kind, and extremely knowledgeable. He took the time to explain to me, and show me on a model, exactly what was happening in my ear. Then he prescribed a treatment, and within five days I was completely cured. I’d recommend him to others in a heart-​beat.

Just for a bit of context, I have a pretty significant dislike of doctors and medical procedures in general. I’ve never been under general anesthesia and never been in a hospital for a personal medical need. That is to say that I feel entirely uncomfortable around most doctors and needles.
With that said, I couldn’t be happier and more impressed with both Dr. Smith and Mary Ellen.
I needed a tonsillectomy and was very nervous about the whole thing. I was honest with Dr. Smith and Mary Ellen about my worry and they took such incredibly good care of me from the first day I walked into their office, until my last followup appointment.
They were always available for a question and always gave me honest and thorough answers. When it came to the procedure itself, everything went as planned and I had no surprises. From the perspective of a patient, Dr. Smith did an excellent job.
I would recommend Dr. Smith’s office to anyone looking for a great ENT.

A prior Unilocaler made reference to Dr. Smith’s wife’s septoplasty which he performed years and years ago as being exceptionally done. Knowing Dr. Smith’s wife on a very close friendly level, I’m quite surprised to even hear she’s had a septoplasty. She (his wife) tells me Dr. Smith is thorough, thoughtful and extremely conscientious in his practice as an ENT. From my understanding, his office manager has been with him for over 30 years and if they’ve chosen not to redecorate their office, more power to saving money on frivolity!!! His experience speaks volumes!

By far, the WORST ear, nose and throat doctor in SF. I honestly don’t know who is more rude, Roger or his receptionist, Mary Ellen. I have never met a doctor with less people skills in my life. I wouldn’t employ either one of them at a 7-​Eleven. Do yourself a favor and go to a doctor who respects his patients and cares about them!

The doctor is wonderful to talk to, the amount of time he spends on your case, doing his homework and later explaining alternate treatments. His experience shows in the way he talks and yet he is humble and suggested even better resources if I so wished (In my case Stanford Med School) since that’s the world’s top rated Sleep research center.
The Office manager looks strict, but very pleasant and helpful if you maintain your appointment times. The doctor’s office looks something from the 60s, but the doctor’s knowledge and demeanor makes up for the lack of technology you’ve come to expect from clinics these days. Overall a very pleasant experience, I would recommend Dr. Smith for any E.N.T consultations.

About 5 years ago Dr Smith performed a successful septoplasty on me after I had a nasty accident. Dr Smith and his office were incredible in navigating the workers comp system and seeing me to health.
He has definitely been doing this doctor stuff for a while! — he does not have a snazzy office or fancy equipment but he does know his noses. His approach is inquisitive, practical and efficient.
He took so much time to make me feel comfortable and to answer my 1 million questions prior to the surgery. The women at the front is awesome and sassy and knows her stuff too — she helped me get ready and navigate the hospital system.
Dr Smith performed his wife’s septoplasty years and years ago and if my nose will look like hers does 20 years later, I will be happy.
Going for a follow up next month, I expect fantastic results!

I personally have not seen Dr. Smith but I just tried to get an appointment and they would not accomodate me. I have been calling several throat specialists this morning to try and see if they can see me because of this chronic sore throat I’ve been having that went from Strep to something else. The receptionist had a 3 PM available but unfortunately, that is when I get off work and ordinarily, I would be able to leave but my partner is out today so I have to cover his work. Anyway, my mother offered to come into the city from the East Bay to drive me to the appt. so that I could make it by 3:10 and the receptionist would even accomodate me for the 10 miserable minutes. Rude, terrible and honestly, a blessing in diguise.
