«This store has everything!»
We are an old-fashioned variety/hardware/giftshop store, locally owned and operated since 1939, and now with a housewares annex, Stan’s Kitchen, next door! You’ll find everything from Ace Hardware to Hallmark Cards, Tcho and Ghirardelli Chocolate, toys, party supplies, wrapping paper & stationery, art supplies and office supplies, housewares and tableware, frames, candles, travel accessories, mobile phone accessories, batteries, nurseries & gardening supplies, SF souvenirs, and much more.
Plus we’ll duplicate your keys (electronic ones too), inflate helium balloons, color-match paint, fill your propane tank, build your Weber BBQs, and even provide free delivery to our neighbors. We also load Clipper Cards and SF Parking Cards, and we sell US Postage Stamps. Plus, we have a price-match guarantee. All this and service too. See why San Franciscans have been yelping about Standard 5&10 Ace, «your one-stop variety store» for 76 years!
History
Established in 1939.
The first Standard 5−10−25 Store opened in 1939 on Geary at 19th Avenue in San Francisco, gaining immediate popularity with neighbors for outstanding customer service and a variety of everyday items available. At one point 4 Standard stores flourished throughout SF & Tiburon, but today the California Street store is the only Standard 5&10 Store remaining — and is still thriving.
The store boasts a loyal customer base, many of whom shopped at the 5&10 as children, and now bring their own children to the store. Standard’s mission is to continue to provide a clean, well-stocked variety store where customers can find a vast array of merchandise at competitive prices, and the best service around. Customer-driven improvements continue to add new products and features to our aisles, including Stan’s Kitchen which opened 6⁄15.
The days of nickel and dime items may be past, but San Francisco residents still find traditional service and a variety of goods at Standard 5&10 ACE in Laurel Village
Meet the Business Owner
Jeff L.
Business Owner
In 1988, Jeff Leopold joined his father Guenther’s business after graduating from UCLA. He became partner with his father in 1991, bringing a youthful energy and outlook to the business, focusing on both automation and management structure.
Jeff believes the customer is the star of the show, and he and Guenther are often seen on the floor in Laurel Village helping a valued customer find the precise knicknack needed for a project. Jeff’s wife Michelle does the marketing and charitable contributions, keeping this store a real mom & pop shop.
The Leopolds continuously incorporate customer-driven improvements to meet modern demands, including recently converting the store pricing to a more visible system, and expanding the toy, crafts hardware, paint, plumbing & electrical departments. A liquid paint section was added in June 2013, and housewares were expanded to Stan’s Kitchen next door in June 2015.
The store remains independently owned and operated since 1939.
