Unilocaler CJP wrote a review that sold me on this dentist. Like her, I had put off some dental needs and on new years eve… I had pain. Wow! What timing?! I called a couple dental offices that were known to me but of course, everyone is out and one can not expect a return call. So, I went to Unilocal!There were a few emergency dental options and I read reviews to assemble the order of calling. CJP review told me so much. Thanks CJP! I called, left a message, and within 90 minutes, I had a very upbeat, compassionate, attentive, helpful DENTIST on the line. UNBELIEVABLE. Doctor Baldwin listened, asked questions, and then gave superb options to help me cope with the pain for one day. Then he told me he would attend to my tooth the next day (Saturday Jan 2). His options for pain management really worked. He even suggested the San Francisco Dental Society as a possible back up in case I couldn’t manage until Jan 2. No dentist has every gone that far to make sure all was well for me. COMPASSION is a big asset in a dentist. Well, my appointment was at 9 am. I parked easily and without fee on the street in front of his office. I enjoyed the ocean view walking in. I enjoyed the art in his office window and in his office. His office was clean and beautiful without being overdone. It was a comfortable place. Its a positive place. Doctor Baldwin is positive. He was relaxed and fun to be around. Who says that about the dentist? He is genuine. He assesses, explains, and then competently treats. There is no staff:) Just the dentist (s) taking care of things! LOVE IT!!! Digital X Rays:) So nice on so many levels! No more jamming X-​ray film in your mouth… ouch no more! Then there is the second most wonderful thing of all… honest and reasonable fees. I felt taken care of in the best way possible and was holding my breath on the fee… BUT still I would be grateful… and then the fee owing was so reasonable:) Yay!!! My appointment was at 9 am by 11 am I was walking my dog:) Back to regular life! Thanks Doctor Baldwin!!! I will be back!

Steve is friendly, funny, and extremely professional… and really good! I had a ‘rip-​off’ kinda experience with my previous dentist… and I had to find someone new… so thanks Unilocalers for helping me find Steve — and he’s in my neighbourhood!!! Love the fact that I no longer have to go to ‘dentist-​ville’ downtown. Steve’s prices are reasonable — important for those of us who don’t have corporate dental insurance coverage — but he is as good (if not better) than the high priced guys downtown. He did a great job with a crown for a front tooth, as well as some teeth whitening. I’m very happy with the results and definitely would recommend Steve to anyone who is looking for a great new dentist…

You know those things that you put off, thinking you will deal with them later? Well a broken filling was causing me problems but never bad enough to get over myself and find a dentist (scary!). Until this morning. After a night of pain I woke up in agony and still had yet to find myself a regular dentist in SF. Now I needed to find one who could take me on a Saturday last minute? Egads. Many of the ‘Emergency’ dentists had terrifying reviews. A friend passed me along the number for Steven and his wife.
I have never had a more positive experience with a dental clinic. Steven called me back and fit me in as soon as he could. Both him and his wife were incredibly honest, down to earth, and compassionate. They didn’t charge me an arm and a leg, they gave me great advice on my dental care, and they had a very non-​aggressive approach. Did I mention fast? Quick and effective. After getting me on the path to recovery, I even got a follow-​up call to make sure I was doing ok.
A bad situation turned right around and now I won’t be putting off any of my dental work because I know that they will take good care of me. I can’t sing their praises loudly enough! Thanks, guys.

I love Cynthia and her husband, Steven Baldwin. They run the whole show. They are the front office, back office, etc. They do all the cleanings themselves, etc. They are minimalist with procedures starting with least necessary work and then accelerating as necessary.
They are also a family oriented practice. I have been bringing my child with me since he was one year old, and he reclines with me while i have my teeth cleaned. Cynthia encourages bringing children so that they get used to the idea of having their teeth cleaned when the time comes. My child 2.5 now and this last visit he was interested in what was going on and allowed his teeth to be counted. When the kids are old enough they have a play room set up just for kids.
My spouse also sees Cynthia. We’re so happy.

I love my dentists! I have never enjoyed a trip to the dentist more than going in to see Dr. Baldwin or Dr. Scipioni for a check up. First of all, great people. Super high integrity, very knowledgable, and highly competent. The few times I’ve had a cavity or needed an old filling replaced, Dr. Baldwin lays out all the options, their costs and benefits, before making his recommendation.
And unlike many dentists, his recommendation is usually not the most expensive. For example, I chipped a molar and we thought we might need to put a gold crown on it. At today’s gold prices!!! Instead of rushing into it, Dr. Baldwin took an incremental approach and we used a less expensive temporary filling to see if the tooth still had integrity. It did, and I was able to avoid gold’s high prices, and get more wear and tear out of my dear tooth.
Steve and Cynthia are big into preventative medicine too, so they have all kinds of helpful suggestions about mouthwash, sugar alternatives, and brushing and flossing habits. Going to the dentist not only takes care of my teeth issues, but I get to hear about their latest surfing, skiing and Central American adventures, too! Both are consummate professionals … I recommend Steve and Cynthia to ALL my friends and business colleagues.

Dr. Baldwin is great! Very informative and friendly. Provides great at home tips and gets to know his patients.

There’s nothing quite so shocking as munching on an apple and suddenly feeling this grinding followed by the popping off of your very own crown while on vacation.
I sincerely wish that Dr. Baldwin worked in Los Angeles so that I could have this man as my regular dentist. He’s extremely personable, informative, welcoming and puts you at ease. Our discourse was eye-​opening and interesting with regard to dental advancements and discoveries as well as the refreshing with regard to discussing preventative care. A large problem of what’s wrong with the medical community, including the dental community, is the lack of REAL preventative care, and the lack of discussion about it, along with a fear that preventative care will cause less work for dentists — a silly idea that is simply untrue.
His work was efficient and of excellent quality. He was able to pinpoint why on earth my crown popped off, and it honestly made perfect sense to me. With a simple grinding down of an overlong tip on my crown that pretty much encouraged my mouth to bang on it all the time, a cleaning of the crown and the site of placement, and bing-​bang-​boom… everything was done.
As for the location, Dr. Baldwin took a dirty hole in the wall and reconstructed it into a clean, bright, modern and well-​maintained office. It’s an extremely comfortable space with two very friendly and knowledgeable dentists, and the neighborhood is most definitely lucky to have them. I’m certainly jealous.

My 4 year and I both went to Dr. Baldwins office as new patients. This was my little ones first dental appointment! Dr B was spectacular with her! He made her comfortable, engaged and confident about her first dental visit. She had a small cavaity and Dr. Baldwin was able to take care of it fast. My daughter cant wait to visit the dentist again. Best Dentist in Town! He will be our family dentist from now on.

Dr Baldwin is simply the best dentist I’ve ever had. I’m 61 and have had a few, and he is absolutely, totally, the best. He is also one of the smartest people I’ve ever met, and an incredibly nice person. I used to dread having any dental work done, and was almost phobic about it. Now I actually look forward to an office visit with Dr Baldwin. Since he was an oral surgeon, I assume he knows his dentistry pretty well. But what really impresses me is his honesty and ethics. He never distances himself from you as a patient, the way that most doctors do. If you don’t need to have work done, he will tell you that, instead of trying to coerce you. That is incredibly rare, and very much appreciated by me.

My three-​year old underwent an unplanned pulpectomy (there was novacain, deep drilling, and filling involved), but walked out feeling fine. Cynthia is great with explaining options to parents, telling kids about what’s going on, and keeping everyone calm. For little ones, her primary focus is on providing a good dental experience to avoid fear of dentists. Some offices use videos to distract kids during the appointment, but instead of that she engages them.

Dr. Baldwin knows his stuff, he’s an oral surgeon and up on all the latest natural methods of dental care. I went back to see him although he wasn’t on my plan. I was told by another dentist that I was going to need a deep cleaning that was going to cost me $ 500 (AFTER insurance), two extra visits and got told a bunch of horror stories about people with their teeth falling out at 35? I’ve only had ONE cavity my whole life, so I was like, WTF?
Dr Baldwin gave me a cleaning and xray and told me I got fed a line of BS, which sounds likely. He and his wife will never guide you to do something unnecessary and expensive. My mouth is happy now.

The best! I had to have an emergency procedure on Saturday and Cynthia found an opening to accomodate me. After a few xrays she painlessly had me numbed up and performed a full root flushing and a temporary filling until I can get a root canal. Very professional practice, excellent work, I’d go back any time!

Dr. Steve and his wife Dr. Cindy are a wonderful dental team. They run their office themselves, and they are both very smart and capable professionals who provide excellent dental care: friendly, caring patient care, forthright and honest explanations of options, and clear explanations of what is happening in each step of a procedure. I have experienced the range of their services, from being fitted for a replacement retainer which helped straighten out my teeth that were becoming crooked again all the way to a recent necessary (broken tooth) extraction, which was amazingly smooth and pain-​free. They keep up to date on the newest techniques but use whatever works in the situation. My husband and I have been happy patients for 15 years and are thrilled that they have their own office in the outer Richmond.
