Sara has been cutting my hair for years and I can’t praise her work highly enough. I’ve had good haircuts from other stylists– paying as much and more– but cuts always grew in strange and were never as stylish as I’d like though admittedly, I’m not very good at describing what I’m going for. Sara gets what I’m going for. In addition to paying attention to what I’d like, she pays amazing attention to her craft, making sure every hair is in place and perfect. She’s a true pro: always a top notch job and it’s always a pleasant experience at her salon.

Tatayna you are so personable, professional and attentive to detail. I was a bit agitated when I arrived because I had no clue on how to explain what I wanted, so I just told you what I didn’t want and you just did the rest… I love my color — and my reshape cut. My hair MOVES again and My bangs are EXACTLY the way I’ve wanted them to be since 2014… which is a perfect slice of pie! Blowed dry with a huge brush giving beaucoup body and subtle slow movement. I forgot to notice your products, but everything was just great. The Salon was clean, inviting, warm, and secluded in the back on the top floor of a very old building with huge window views — and StudioHix has the coolest shampoo bowl!

This review is a long time coming! I’ve been one of Sara’s clients for more that 5+ years! Because of the great cuts I receive from her I will continue to trek across the bay for years to come. I have never found anybody that cuts my hair as good as she does and I have tried quite a few. Sara is professional, friendly and easy to work with.
The place is definitely cool and the products are great! With the addition of Meg, the color specialist, no need to go to anywhere else for your hair styling needs.

Best salon ever! I was never happy with my style until I let Sara make suggestions and I just let her do her thing. Great space, friendly vibe, sustainable cleaning products that show a concern for the environment… what’s not to like about this place?

Sara is, hands down, the best hair stylist I have ever been to. My partner and I have been clients for almost 10 years now. If you want a super cute haircut from someone who takes their time and always does an excellent job, give her a try. Plus, she just opened her own salon, which is lovely!

Another great cut by Jaimie VanPernis! Everytime I visit, I do believe it is the best haircut I have ever had. Yesterday was no different. Yet, I like to wait until the next day to see if I am still enamoured with it. YES! I woke up this morning, ran a comb through my hair and it looks AMAZING! Thank you, Jaimie, for your creativity and ability to make a so/​so head of hair look really, really GREAT! (And not just the day it’s cut, but thereafter).

Leaving a review for Amina — SHE IS AMAZING!
My previous haircut several months ago (done by another stylist not at Studio Hix), while cute was not what I had asked for (asked for a girly fauxhawk and got an asymmetrical pixie with an undercut in the back). I met Amina through a mutual friend of ours and after having talked to her about getting my fauxhawk from her I finally went in yesterday to get it done. She was wonderful! I showed her a picture of what I wanted, and she regularly checked in with me to make sure I was liking how the cut was progressing and if I wanted any changes to be made, as well as giving me tips on how to maintain and style it. I am absolutely in love with my hair now and I am so stoked to have finally found a new hair stylist to go to (planning on a return trip in the future to talk about some color!). I would definitely recommend Amina to anyone looking for a stylist who really involves YOU in the process. Definitely going back to see her again!

I’ve been seeing Sara for 7+ years since her days at Moxie Parlour. It’s been an absolute pleasure to see her thrive with the new business Studio Hix. As a stylist she is creative, thoughtful and extremely thorough as ever. The new space is divine and I love the artwork as well.

I’ve enjoyed several great short cuts with Sara over the past year. Sara takes time to listen to what I want, talk about options, and deliver a great cut every time. I have thin hair, and Sara’s cuts have done a great job of making it look thicker and lush. I am super happy with her work!

I had hair to my mid back and needed a change. Sara gave me the cutest A-​Line Bob. I absolutely love it and its exactly what I wanted.

I had my hair cut by Amina — she is a wonderfully skilled, patient, and friendly stylist. I’m an awkward dude to the core, and I seldom have pleasant hair experiences. One lady gave me a different cut every time I walked in even though I showed her the same picture each time. Amina made me feel happy and confident with my new look, and told me if I have any questions or doubts to come right back. Chill atmosphere where communication with your hair dresser is encouraged and made easy. Pretty little studio with some cool art on the walls. Good find.

I had the pleasure of having my hair done by Amina yesterday, and it was such a great experience. She’s caring, skilled, and very professional. I’m in an awkward hair phase and she really took the time to access what I wanted for the best outcome. I especially appreciated her patience and felt like she took the time to listen to what I wanted. It’s refreshing to feel like your stylist actually gives a shit. She’s fucking awesome!
The space is pretty, salon itself was very clean, and there’s lots of really cute artwork around. Rad. I will definitely be going back to Amina to cut/​color my hair in the future.

She’s Amazing! I love her!
My back story– I was a hair model for this guy in June for a bleaching class, I had virgin dark brown hair (which I loved) I was looking forward to this experience, but the highlights he gave me were very thick strips (which I asked him not to do in the beginning of the class and made me look like I tried to do this myself with a kit at home), «accidentally» bleached my hair until it was a moss green color, and then bleach washed it back to blonde to fix his mistake… What was I going to do! How could I trust anyone with my hair anymore!
Enter Amina, my saving angel.
I went to her to color my hair in October; I really, really wanted to do something to fix my terrible hair but was reluctant to let anyone color it again. I had always wanted red hair (I don’t know how I let my friend talk me into modeling for a bleaching class. never again) so I brought pictures on my phone to show her what I wanted. I wanted my hair to be all one color (can you sense how much I disliked the blonde?) but she talked me into keeping the blonde and letting the ends be a lighter red so I would get more of an red ombré effect, turning a negative into a positive, which turned out ah-​mazing. I loved my hair when she was done! Also, when she was washing my hair I got the best scalp massage ever! I was so relaxed, and at peace it was wonderful! Throughout the day I got compliments everywhere, and now the red has faded so nicely into a chocolate brown I still get compliments on how good my hair color is. About once a month (as the color fades) I get at least one person ask me «did you dye your hair?» I mention this because back in high school and college when my hair dye would fade it would always look gross and I would have to dye it again. Not this time. Three days ago I had the owner of a hair salon next to my job come in and ask me «who does your hair?»
Basically! I love Amina; shes attentive, patient, talented, and I will continue to go to her for all my hair color needs. Amina, Thank you soooooo much! You’re the best!

Go see Amina at Studio Hix! She’s been cutting my hair for the past year or two and does a fantastic job. I’ve had short hair for a few years now and it’s always magical to find hairdressers who know how to cut short hair — it’s a skill-​set unto itself, especially if you’re like me and have wacky growth patterns and you’re working on growing out a pixie cut (it’s been traumatic and she’s carried me through). She’s really good at getting a feel for your hair, so each time you come back you don’t have to explain a million things to her — just give her an idea of what you’re thinking of, and she’ll make it work on your head. She also has the most gracious «bedside» manner. She is interminably, genuinely friendly and kind. She is sure to have you laughing and feeling confident and cheerful.
All that and she does beautiful color work too — from simple, natural looks to super vibrant rainbow colors. The day I finally make the jump to crazy, unicorn hair, I will go see her.

Studio Hix is beautiful – high ceilings, floor to ceiling windows, and sleek stylist stations make this studio open and light. It also doubles as a fantastic art gallery space.

I took a big risk getting a haircut 2h before I had an interview downtown, but I trusted Amina and that well-​placed trust paid off big time! My hair is the healthiest, shiniest, and softest it’s been in a while and the sleek blowout added the perfect amount of polish to my appearance that day.
Amina is everything you want in a trusted hair adviser – patient, nonjudgmental, and willing to discuss all the pros and cons of whatever hair-​brained idea you’re toying with. She also takes the time to give you a cut that works for your look and your lifestyle.

Got a haircut from Amina yesterday, and I am soooo happy with the outcome! It’s the exact length I asked for — which we all know doesn’t always happen. I will definitely be back to see her!

I just read a review I wrote for Sara from 2007… and it’s still true! She is more than a hairdresser — she is a hair artist. I have on occasion tried other salons in the Bay Area over the past 8 years (Pin Up Parlor in Berkeley and Manifesta Salon in Oakland) and every time I come running back to Sara.
Sara is cool, calm, smart and stylish. I have gone to her for trims and major transformations, and have always been happy with my hair. I said it before and I’ll say it again — I actually love my hair just as much — if not more — when I do it myself the next day. That is pretty remarkable. I also LOVE her new space. It’s so «Sara». Amazing art on the walls, fun and a little goth. Really easy to get to from Powell BART.
I had my share of traumatic haircuts in my childhood so I just refuse to deal with bad haircuts as an adult. So that’s why Sara is my girl.

Sara is awesome. I’ve been going to see her for over 5 years for my cut. She’s a smart, completely no nonsense, entirely client focused, and extremely talented stylist.
Rather than just pay attention to current styles, Sara works directly with each of her clients to find a style that works for both their hair type and their face shape.
Due to Sara’s honest approach and cutting expertise, I’ve always left happy. Which is something I’ve not been able to say about any other stylist I’ve had!
