I dont know if i could say it better than Stephy S already has. What a great review. I however did not get Jack or a hard boiled egg. Lots of interesting folks coming in and outta here though. Just needed a six pack of beer for some friends cooking dinner so i grabbed some Deschutes and cabbed it outta there.

Sunshine is a misnomer in the sense of transparent pricing. only the amazon tea is priced at .99. all beers, micros, juices, energy drinks, chips, snacks have no prices. didn’t remember the wines nor groceries having any pricing.

On or around January 14, 2014, I purchased a 2-​liter bottle of Diet Pepsi from Sunshine Wine & Liquor. When I got home and tasted the soda, it was gross. I don’t mean it was slightly expired; I mean it tasted like paint thinner.
I searched and searched and finally found the expiration date on the bottle: 05÷23÷13.
I understand that real liquor stores don’t sell much in the way of diet soda, but even if you’re not going to rotate your stock very often, you should do expiration-​date checks every month at the very least. If that’s too much trouble for you, how about quarterly?
The guy who works here is nice, but now that I’ve experienced that, I wouldn’t trust the hard-​boiled eggs they sell. No way. Who knows how old they are?

You’ll find your usual liquor-​store finds here but what does it for me is the fact that they stock these fantastic things:
–Mexican Coke in three different sizes
–Planters Spanish redskin peanuts (getting harder to find these anywhere)
–hard-​boiled eggs
I also find it amusing to see myself on the security television alongside the other TV.

A nice and happy place and time.

For getting your drink on in the Upper Haight, options are Sunshine, Frank’s, and Liquid Experience. Frank’s is cheap, but also small, dirty, and loaded with bums. Liquid Experience is pricey and great for wine but not so good for liquor and beer, so that leaves Sunshine as probably the best overall option.
Store is clean and although small, there never seems to be more than 2 people in it so it’s not really an issue. Counter lady is friendly, and prices are reasonable. Can’t go wrong.

This is, hands down, the best corner store ever. The family that runs it is really nice (they always remember that I buy scratch off lotto tickets for my bf and make amusing comments on that). I can usually find something interesting to snack on here, and aside from a single shortage of my favorite vitamin water, they carry all the tasty beverages I could ever drink. It is clean, well stocked, and not insanely overpriced.

I live on the same block so this my store. Really friendly and honest family run this place. Diverse beer selection, probable the best in the neighborhood. Otherwise, it’s standard wine, liquor, soda, smoke & candy stop. Plus, not as griity as other nearby liquor stores.

Every time I buy a pint of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream its a different price! No grocery items are marked, they just make it up as they go along. The store is super dirty, only half stocked, and a lot of the food times like cookies and crackers are expired but still on the shelves. If you’re looking for booze, there are less expensive places on Haight, or just head to Val de Cole.

We have lived above Sunshine for 2 years now and will miss this place. The owners are so friendly and welcoming… even at 1 am when all the drunk crazies are roaming through their store. They even specially ordered Oreo’s for my Husband :)

Never Again.

I actually have a question, does this place have wings painted anywhere near it? Or does anyone know of a market or liquor store in the area with wings painted on it?

I love a liquor store employee with a sense of humor. I also love a liquor store with a heated argument checking out ahead of you. I also love the idea of a liquor store that sells… hard boiled eggs?
Yeah, weird, right? But hey, I guess when ya gotta have that bottle of Jack and you are craving a hard boiled egg like nobody’s bidnaz, the Sunshine Wine & Liquor store will hook yo ass up! I still don’t understand the logic there, but I’m sure it makes sense to someone. Or maybe we stumbled upon a rave stop and missed the memo.
Who knows :)

I’m going to be the first to up a review on this place to 5 stars. It’s the best liquor store in the Haight I think, and that’s worth 5. The selection of beer is pretty great… the wine is OK, but not great. OK, and it is kind of expensive. So maybe it only deserves 4… but the people who run the place are so damn nice. And really, it is a great place to buy some tasty drinks. Oh, and they sell a huge selection of small bottles of booze – I mean airplane bottles. Those come in handy some times. Once every 4 years probably, but still. That’s good to know.
So I’m happy to pay a dollar or two more for a six pack than I would like to shop here. Great selection and great people. And did I mention I live a block and a half away? That helps too.

Obviously there’s no shortage of liquor stores in Haight/​Ashbury, but this one is my favorite. There’s a really big selection of wine and liquor, a decent selection of beers, and the best part is that they have Ben & Jerry’s Light Ice Cream… mmmm Half-​Baked Light.
I really like the guy and girl that work behind the counter too, they recognize me whenever I come in, say hello and offer small talk, and are pretty nice. I also like that there’s usually not as many «homeless» kids as there tend to be in front of other stores, begging for change they don’t deserve or trying to sell me something I really don’t want.

Needed some brewskies for kickball last night. Stopped in here pumped and ready to play! Its close to the park, so my pump-​upedness didn’t wear off before i got to the field with my 6-​pack of tall Miller Lights. Oh yeah, thats quality drinkin time!
They had what i needed, seemed to have quite a bit more… and the lovely lady at the counter let the pooch come in without even batting an eye. Now thats a friendly neighborhood corner store!

I am almost positive that this is my corner store. If it is, I have nothing but kind words to say about the Nigerian couple that owns the place. Sadly, I don’t know their names but I do know that the wife works days & that the husband works nights. He is very skilled at deflecting all of the crap that comes along with owning the closest liquor store to Hippie Hill. I’ve seen him shut down babbling tweakers buying 40s & twinkies with impressive efficiency. He’s also very nice, doesn’t make sexually suggestive comments to ladies (like some other corner store owners) & always waves at me or my boyfriend when we walk pass. A great place to buy my Vitamin Water, beer & emergency toilet paper supply.

Cavernous and surprisingly cabin-​like for a liquor store on the Haight. They have a huge selection, perfect for a late night bottle of wine, or a quick six pack on the way to the park.
