History

Established in 2008.

We opened our first textile maintenance facility in 1994 at our Russian Hill location. We saw a need for a clean, well lighted, friendly laundrymat. After 14 years, two kids, some gray hair and a lot of loads of laundry, we decided that the Marina deserved a nice laundrymat too. So here we are on Chestnut X Divisidero.

Even if you have your own laundry machines at home, we have four 40 LB. «Big Boys» that can wash your large bedding items, sleeping bags, rugs, etc. Once you use any of our machines, you might get spoiled because they are awesome. We can’t get over how clean clothes get & how fast they dry in our large dryers. You won’t have to wait for a machine either. There are plenty to go around. Because of their efficiency, doing laundry at The Sock is also a bargain!

Helpful to have a local laundrymat. My safety is a concern when the homeless sleep at MissingSock in the middle of the day on a Tuesday. Does anyone monitor the facility? This was the second time it has happened this month.

Used to be great but ever since the laundromat across the street closed this has become the new mecca for vagrants and crackheads. Not comfortable leaving my stuff here unless I’m sitting in one of their chairs watching it… which seemingly half the time means sitting in a chair next to some drugged up whack job talking to himself and picking at his skin. No thanks.
Management needs to raise prices and use the revenue to pay for an attendant.

So here’s a tip: I’d steer clear of this place in the morning hours. Every time I’ve come here earlier than 9am there’s always at least one homeless person hanging out or some meth head straight tweaking. They always look super sketch and always look like they’re ready to steal my clothes out of the dryer unless I stay and keep an eye on them. Later in the day everyone seems normal here so I feel comfortable heading back to my apartment while my clothes go through the dryer cycle but definitely not so in the mornings.
Other people have mentioned the card system. It’s super easy once you get used to it and I like not having to mess around with quarters.
It’s $ 2.75 for a load in the washer but only $ 1.50 for 30 minutes in the dryer. And their dryers work great! I’ve never had anything come out of the dryer damp, even when I put a big load in it.
All the machines are fairly new and always seem in good order. There’s no one here on site during operating hours tho so by the end of the day the place can get kind of messy. Plus those tweakers on the mornings…

I was excited to try a laundromat that I could use my cc at and not have to gather up quarters as it is always a pain. I followed the instructions on the pay machine to obtain a new laundry card (something this place makes you use to load your money on). There is a $ 10 charge and $ 4 is a deposit and the rest you get to use towards laundry services. The machine charged my credit card but never spit out my laundry card. When I tried to get a receipt it said it was out of paper. Frustrating to say the least… There is also no ATM on site even if you wanted to get cash and try to get the laundry card that way.
There is no one on site to assist with problems like these and their phone number is automated. I sent several emails and never heard a response. Extremely BAD customer service. I will warn everyone I know who inquires about a laundromat not to use this place.

As a tourist we needed a place to do laundry. After looking at the reviews on Unilocal we decided to go to the Missing Sock! We were not disappointed!
I love you can use their card system instead of quarters! Nice not to have to keep quarters on hand. Love this place and would recommend for tourists!

The place wants to loot you of your money.
The machine charged me $ 5 and nothing happened. There is no person available on site to talk to, the phone number for customer support has an automated response which asks you to email them, and the email is «
» … yes. yahoo. and the best part, no one responds to your mail.
I had to recharge my card for another $ 10 for using just $ 2 (because the machine wrongly charged $ 5 extra)
Also, it doesn’t look like the business wants to refund you any money left on your card + the $ 4 refundable for returning the card. I have a video of following their instructions and dropping the card in an envelope under the door at Missing sock as they instructed, but even after 3 months, I have not gotten any refunds.
Very poor tactics and customer support. Didn’t expect it from a professional looking place. Will not be using your services again next time.

Nicest laundry mat in town! Always kept well cleaned and never too busy.
We lost a whole load and didn’t realize it for two weeks. Once we noticed, the management had a very organized system to help us track down our clothes. All around a great experience.

While there’s a coin-​operated laundromat on my street, I go out of my way to drive the extra blocks to go to Missing Sock. The card operated system is way more convenient than quarters, and the wash is actually cheaper than the less-​nice location on my block (the sock is 2.75/wash as opposed to 3.75).
Washers and dryers are always clean and the décor is cheerful and nice — not a bad place to hang out for a couple hours. Clientele is also great; never uncomfortable with the other people at the missing sock, no matter what time of day/​night I go.
Happy to have found the Missing Sock and will continue to do my laundry here and tell all my Marina/​Cow Hollow friends about it!

Discovered this laundromat as the one I usually go to in Pac Heights has a broken coin machine and I found mud/​sand inside multiple washing machines. Not good.
Quite impressed by the modern décor and cleanliness of it (you don’t expect much from laundromats once you’ve seen how low they can go). Machines are fairly easy to operate but would have appreciated it if there was a sign that says I have to close the machine in order to be able to choose a cycle. Same with ‘check your card balance’ card — didn’t know I just needed to insert the card halfway through to make it read it (kept trying jam the whole card into the slot for 2 min). Pretty minor.
Pricing could be more reasonable — card deposit is $ 4 (refundable), but the wash — on the machine says $ 2.75 but once I inserted the card it says $ 3.25…hmm. Am fine with paying a $ 0.5 premium if it means clean washing machines (can’t take these things for granted these days).
Another big plus is the free wifi.
Also looking forward to starting my load at 9pm since this place closes at midnight!

It’s a clean laundromat. Quiet.
I really hate the payment system. I don’t want to carry or have to remember bringing a card, which they system requires you to do. Also the dryers don’t appear to allow you to add time, I got ripped off right away trying to add time and having the dryer reset itself as a result. KISS principle is not at work here.
Big fat negative one star for that one.

Clean environment and very good machines. The price could be a touch better, but what the hell. I’ve tried a few different laundry places, but I still like this one the best, even if I pay a little more for this one because it’s the most convenient location from my apartment. Also, very good hours of operation.

Card cost 4 $ to use machines

I am writing this review on behalf of my wife. By way of a premarital verbal agreement, she is responsible for laundering our clothes. (Easy ladies, I do plenty of other stuff…).
While the missing sock is easily the nicest laundromat in the Marina it has begun to show its age. Machines seem to stay broken too long. Those that do work don’t seem to work as well as they used to, despite ensuring the conditions for successful drying are met (dryer not overstuffed, lint tray emptied). I doubt these flaws are egregious enough to force a switch. They offer free WiFi, and usually have a few crappy girl magazines lying around to entertain my wife for the extra dry cycle required to complete the job.

This place is a RIP-​OFF!
Used to love this place but spend my quarters somewhere else now. I thought the card instead of quarters would be convenient, but they require a deposit. The deposit used to be $ 4 but recently I paid $ 10 after I had left my card in a machine the last time. Often I have checked the water temp at different times of the day and it rarely feels warm, even when you have selected the hot temperature button.
I never leave stuff behind except at this place. I have left two or three of the cards behind with cash on them, and tried to email the owner but never got a response. So there went about $ 25 or more down the drain. The very last time I was there I left in tears. My card, which had about $ 15 on it, wouldn’t work in any of the machines. I was about to buy a new card to see if that would work and realized how ridiculous this was as I would have to pay yet another deposit AND lose all the money on my old card. Since the owner never returns phone calls or emails, and is NEVER there, I took all my laundry out of the machines and left, happy to never return.

Apparently even laundry mats are not immune to technological improvements. While most of us have been perfectly happy using quarters to do our laundry for the past half century, the Missing Sock has «made our lives easier» by requiring the purchase of a debit card in order to wash your clothes. On top of that, a $ 4 deposit is required in order to purchase the card! So if you want to spend $ 6 doing your laundry, you’ll need to fork over $ 10. You get to keep the card and can add money to it on your second, third, etc. visit. (Wow! A customer loyalty program.) You can return the card in an envelope and the owner will mail you a check for $ 4. My guess is that most customers don’t bother and the owner ends up making that much extra in fees.
Of course none of this information is posted at the Missing Sock, so consider yourself warned.
Personally, I’d prefer to pay for my wash using good old fashioned quarters. Why overly complicate a system that has worked just fine for decades.

This place is great! I never thought I would write a review for a laundromat!
we had been dealing with one pair of small washer dryer in a 12 unit building for 5 months until I found out about this place! Doing laundry is so much faster and more pleasant now!
I’m not sure what the reviewer say about this place being expensive, it’s way cheaper than I expected, and what I’ve been paying in our own building. It’s also fast, and located right on chestnut so I can go to a restaurant or coffeeshop while waiting for my laundry.
This place is also really clean as you can see in the pictures! Definitely recommend it to anyone.

You know, I am not impressed with ambient lighting and new fangled card operated machines. I would have liked to have done laundry without having to purchase a $ 10 card (when I really just needed to do ONE load). It would have been really awesome if I didn’t feel like I should have dressed better to wash my panties.
I wandered around in a circle for a few minutes before I bailed.
